I just finished making a cover for my Janome MC9850 embroidery/sewing machine. I am a total novice with only basic sewing machine experience although I have a couple of Singer sewing machines circa 1970-1980 until I bought my new Janome recently. The way you explain and show the assembly step by step removed all the intimidation for me. I never sewed with any lining or foam before, so this was all new for me. It turned out looking SUPER and I loved the way the lining bottom doubled as a border at the bottom! I am a retired guy that loves making things - workshop with wood and metal and also now I will take on some sewing projects as well! Thanks again!! :-)
I recently bought a new machine and started looking for projects I used to make clothing, but didn't have time for crafts. Now at 70 something I do. I just to owned this dust cover. I am so proud of myself I can't stand me. Thank you so much for your videos I have made two of your totes love them too. And I love you. Thank you Pam Z
The new sewing machine I got a couple months ago came with a cheap, white, plastic cover. Naturally, I had to make a pretty cover for it. This is the third cover I have made and because I didn't rush, it is the BEST! I put pockets on all four sides. It stands up so well I can use it as an organizer. One of the pockets is just for my manual so I won't lose it. I've watched this video so many times, I am surprised I haven't been flagged as a stalker. I love your style of calm and relaxed teaching.
You are the real QUEEN of sewing. Love your work and enjoy watching your videos. Also like to see your cute dog in the videos. My Rottweiler loves to lie under my table when I sew as well. Keep them coming.
You published this video shortly before I bought my sewing machine. I thought a cover and pin cushion were perfect projects for a beginner. Using fabric scraps, I made the cover hastily without lining or foam so I could get to other projects. Rewatching this video because I want to make a better cover this time around. I am looking forward to using the same technique to make covers for my kitchen appliances. Thanks for all your videos that make learning to sew rewarding.
What a great program. I watched you make a cover for a sewing machine today. As soon as you finished , I went to my sewing machine and got out every thing I needed and now I have a cover to keep the dust out of my machine. Thank so much for a great idea.
Debbie, I just have to say that I love your soft, gentle, VERY VERY intricate teaching. I have been making totes and purses and now I'm designing a 'dog show bag/caddy' for my fellow dog show people and myself. Because of you, I am producing some really nice stuff and I've learned how to even make up my own design because of watching you and how great you make others feel watching you. You are very admired and I can't thank you enough for what you do and have done. I plan on buying some of your books. I was a MASSIVE sewer when my kids were little and made all their clothes, mine and other things, having learned from my great mom and I set it down for many many years, but now, I've picked up on it, like riding a bike and I'm "off to the races" making things and have you to thank for where I've headed and how to create... THANK YOU DEBBIE!!!!! I appreciate you so much. Please, keep up the good work and 'feed' us more...
Thanks so much for this tutorial, it was easy to follow. I made mine without the pockets as I used patchwork crumbs and small scraps of fabric for the outside cover so I didn't want all the beautiful patterns to be obscured.
Debbie, you rock! Your tutorials are so clear and easy to follow and you are so friendly and inspirational in your delivery. You're my sewing hero xxxxxx
Debbie's demonstrations are just so easy to follow. I have been struggling with a zipped and lined purse, but now I know! I can now use my knowledge on proper bags, wonderful.
After making 20 or sew tote bags for a crafts fair, I just realized that a sewing machine cover is just an upside down tote without handles. :). Thank you for the tutorial!
Debbie I've watched a few iTunes videos on how to make a sewing machine cover and yours is by far the easiest and smartest way of making one and I've added it to my many projects of yours. Thank you
I cannot wait to attack this project! I don’t have a sewing room so I use my kitchen island to sew!! This will be awesome to keep my sewing machine covered and protected plus it will look great!!! ❤❤
Just made a similar sewing machine cover but with thinner foam. It was rather tricky but still love the finished product, at least my new sewing machine will keep dust free., thanks Debbie, you're an inspiration!!
Made this for my overlocker and love it! Had previously sewn your caravan cover for my sewing machine and wish I had used the Bosal for that too. May have to re-make it! Thank you for your easy to watch instructions.
Absolutely gorgeous and not as difficult as I thought. I will be making one for my new machine. I gave my old one to my neighbor and realized it was terribly faded from never being covered.
Hi Debbie. I am estatic that I found your channel. You cannot imagine how much you have helped me with all the ideas and tips. I have searched endlessly for someone like you with all your fantastic descriptions especially in cm. I have made some of those craft ideas with my young students at school. Thank you again from Sweden.
Debbie, Thank you, I made sewing machine this following your instructions, went together seamlessly!!! Thanks, I enjoy your creativeness and your projects.
I feel like a little genie right now. I’m an absolute beginner when it comes to sewing, and this weekend I made a cover for my machine, including pockets. Now, I didn’t use foam, just a fabric I had laying around, but the process I used is exactly the same. I sewed some elastic around the bottom hem, so it hugs the bottom of my machine from underneath and some elastic around the top of my pockets. So that it keeps the contents a bit more secure. Only thing seeing this tutorial makes me want to do, is to find a way to make it as sturdy as yours, just for some more structure.
Really liked this case, and the pockets are an excellent addition. I have little tins/boxes/bits all over my sewing desk, pockets would go a long way to sorting it out
I just love you Debbie! You are my favorite sewer. I bought 2 of your books. I love the books but I love your tutorials more. You have such a relaxing beautiful voice. I agree with Ursula Leach. You are such a fantastic representative of the UK. I am so happy I found you!
Thanks Debbie, Love your vids and books. I decided to use double sided fusible bosal ( added fabric both sides _ no separate lining for me) and then use binding for the bottom edge. Found it a bit easier but of course not as professional as yours lol - I figure inside the cover I don’t mind seeing the seams. Love the edge finish to help it stand up. This video helped me so much - thx again
This is the third item I have attempted to sew with you and the last two have turned out beautifully thanks to your style and easy way of communicating every step. Just so happened I had been wanting to show another person how to make a cover for the sewing machine I gave her and this is the perfect project for us both!
Thank you Debbie for sharing all your creations...I've enjoyed watching your videos more then once and decided I can do this...so with your cool soft spoken voice, humor and your mate, Alfie...I have completed sewing machine cover, teacup pin cushion and loving them so much looking for something else to do...maybe the chicken...Thank for my new hobby in sewing...Peace and Love...
Beautiful cover and video is so easy to follow. Love your projects. I love your cd and am having so much fun trying all the handbags. Thanks for keeping us involved.
So nice and I think I will make one for my Singer Futura XL 400 embroidery machine. But I think I will also add pockets on the side cause I got so many things to find a spot for. Thanks this one is beautiful. I think I might even embroider something onto the front since it is for my embroidery machine I will also make one for the emboidery unit which detaches for regular sewing. Love it like all your other videos though I missed Alfie in this one.
Really brilliant looks nice and sturdy. I have been trying to think of a way to make a carrying case that has the qualities of storing my sewing tools, rulers, scissors, rotary cutter, and hopefully cutting mat plus smaller notions. That way I don't need two separate carriers for the machine and everything I need to carry over to either of my daughters' houses or hopefully to teach some classes.
Than you, this is perfect. I don't have foam, so I will just use my fusible fleece. I didn't think about top stitching the corners, that is excellent. I need that Stick n Spray, that is good stuff. Thank you again for a great, straightforward and easy to understand tutorial.
Just found your videos and love them. I'm so impressed with your sewing abilities and your creative designs. I agree with the woman who suggested you sit with the queen, I'm not from the UK but I'm sure she would be impressed with your skills. I think you should send her one of your stylish bags. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas.
Nice cover. saw this foam at 'my' fabric shop, and pondered a bit of what that cold be used for............. Now I have got the answer, and got some ideas for something more to use it for too. Gudd 'un Debbie.
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! AWESOME FABRIC AND PATTERN!!! I AM MAKING ONE ASAP!!! THANK YOU YOU AREA GREAT TEACHER AND VERY DETAILED!! LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS!!!
WOW. That is wonderful. I'm going to make one of these right away. Thanks so much for the clear precise instructions. I'm off to look for you next sewing video.
Debbie I love this and you explain everything so simply and clearly. You have a calming way of teaching. Really enjoying your videos. Thank you Sue (Lancashire UK )
Ok Debbie, I finally got in, getting the chevron fabric, for the sewing machine cover, also, I made the wallet for my gbaby and another bag, and the bags galore, I love the all, lol, I will send you the pics to see how I did, thank you
What a great tutorial!! I love using Bosal and find that the foam is easy to sew through, as you said, while offering a wonderful stability to projects like this one. I just love all of your tutorials.
Debbie, another way of doing it and not having to fight the foam is cut the material 1/2 inch larger than the foam. With the foam side facing you sew 1/4 inch around all the sides. With the foam side facing you sew the seams just next to the foam not catching the foam. Seams will come out beautiful without fighting the bulk.

2022, Thank You Debbie. This was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for the video and the clear instructions. Love my cover.
I love the boxed shape of this cover. Far more tailored than any other bag I’ve seen. I’ve made it and it fits beautifully. Thank you so much

Debbie you made that look so easy I will have to give this a go but not done any sewing for years
I have your book to reference back to xx
My machine came with one of those thin, plain covers - I rarely use it. And it never really occurred to me that I could just make my own. Haha! Thanks for this :) My machine will be glad to have something pretty covering it
This would make a terrific travel bag if it's flipped over and you hand larger handles :-) Love the fact that you lined this-looks so polished!
Melisa Haggai Great idea and thank you!
*had larger handles
Just made my cover. It's not perfect, but it's still pretty awesome! Very good tutorial and nice voice, too. Thanks!
When you measured your machine and calculated fabric, I didn't notice you leaving a seam allowance... did I miss this. Gorgeous project and easy to follow. Thank you xx
I generally use a 1/4" seam allowance, hope that helps!
Hi Debbie, Thank you for sharing your skills so generously. One of the things I love about your tutorials, you don't shy away from showing the difficult parts - that REALLY helps give me confidence to have a go. Love the youtube video's but would love to see more of you on the TV channel too, can you sort that please? (I know, cheeky!). Kind Regards - Colin
what a coincidence!! I bought fabric yesterday with the idea of making a machine cover!! ( not having any idea how to make one!) I have just ordered my foam and look forward to sewing one with you....i am new to sewing and with your tutorial help have made many cosmetic bags and also some of your chickens..oh and a flower!! Perfect! It's a project I'm in desperate need of... My machine came with a very lightweight cover made out of a very thin recycled material. Love the idea of the cvoer being sturdy enough to support the weight of supply pockets! :) Thanks!

It came out really nice. Love it!😊
