We received a cockatiel from a breeder and were told it was a male. We named him Caesar. Caesar started laying eggs two years later. Caesar became Caesaretta. She was hilarious but very moody after laying.
I believe your Pearl is a male. I had a female that I had hoped would be a male. This was many years ago. Then because we enjoyed our female so much, we wanted another female. Long story short, our Lucy became a Louie, after the first molt. Louie is in birdy heaven now too. We did enjoy both our Cockatiels. What you said about male/female behavior is true. 👍🧡
Pearl is a male he shows all the signs, pearls feathers wont tell u anything bc of his colour mutations he will mkst likley keep his pearls for his entire life
My Gilbee's a male & my avian vet confirmed it by checking for barring on the underside of his flight & tail feathers. He lowers his head like Pearl for head skritches & only pecks if you hit a pin feather. XD If you want to give him skritches we found that showing him your index finger's knuckle (curl your finger in) he'll bend his head. we've also noticed the older he is the quieter he is. He'll still squawk & sing, but not as much as when he was younger. When I come home from work or being out for a while, he'll start calling me when he hears the keys in the door lock. XD They're fun birds, budgies too! You're lucky Pillow is so friendly! All the budgies I've ever had never wanted to leave their cage & would flip out whenever I cleaned them out. XD
Thank you for making this video!! I adopted a 5-month-old cockatiel and was told that she is female (supposedly DNA tested). She is now 1 year/2 months old and shows mostly female characteristics. HOWEVER, she talks quite often and has a rather large vocabulary for a female cockatiel!! I've had many cockatiels throughout my life and have NEVER heard a female speak so often and so clearly!! My question is should I have her DNA tested myself based upon her extensive vocabulary? Any advice is much appreciated!!
@@allarusev9966 Well, it matters for a few different reasons. One is that I have planned on getting her a mate and I need to know his/her correct gender (Thankfully, there are only 2 genders in the bird world!) to determine the proper sex of a proper mate. And two, "she" has a pretty extensive vocabulary and speaks often. Her favorite phrases to say are, "Sugababy's a pretty girl!" and "I'm a beautiful girl!" That, in itself, is a huge problem. I believe in treating any living thing according to its natural biology, so it's very difficult to shift from treating her as a female to treating her as a male. I can't undo the phrases she has learned and these are her absolute favorite things to say out of the many words and phrases that she knows. Any advice on how to do such a thing is greatly welcomed!! And three, but far less important, Petco is guilty of false advertisement. I specifically went looking to buy a female and was assured that "she" had been dna tested and determined to be female. I did call the Petco I bought her from and he (rudely) said that they only go by what's on the paperwork from the breeder, so their "guarantee" isn't a guarantee at all. I have since contacted the breeder and am waiting for a response for confirmation.
I know this is years old but I think your Tiel is very much a female! Cockatiels are like every other animals, they have their own little individual personalities I'm curious though, did you find out your Tiel's gender yet?
@laikeree_4213 Thank you for your comment ❤️ No, I haven't. I just decided to let her be "her" lol because it's what we're both used to. Unfortunately, her pearling has faded out tremendously over the last couple of years which, according to "experts" is a tell-tale sign of a male. I tried telling her not long ago "Sugababy's a haaandsome boy," and I kid you not, she cocked her head sideways and did her little bird laugh. It was completely uncomfortable for me to say it, too, so I decided just to let it go. So, as far as we're both concerned, Sugababy will be a beautiful girl for the rest of her years!
Thanks for this! My mother is quite the old fashioned type; knows little to nothing about anything that includes a screen that requires charging _(she gets us to use any device of any kind to look up things for her),_ struggles with any business/financial related stuffs that requires the internet, because all she knows is a pen/pencil and paper, and she's more likely to understand someone in person rather than on a screen of any kind. Lol We have 2 cockatiels. We've had them for at least several years now. We've always believed them to be one male and the other female, but my mother started to have her doubts. She wanted to find an expert on birds _(in person)_ somewhere nearby to tell her what their genders are, but I found this video for her instead, and told her that they'd likely tell her the same thing that the lady in this video is saying. I tried to show it to her, but she said that she didn't understand what you were talking about, and still wanted to ask the opinion of someone in person. As I said, she often does that when watching people on the internet. Basically most of what you were saying, the differences between Cockatiel genders, were pretty much what we had already suspected, mostly. I reassured her that our cockatiels are indeed male and female, especially seeing as the girl has laid some non-fertile eggs before. So your video helped us out a lot, and helped put my mother's doubts to rest. Thank you. ☺️🙏❤️💯🦜

Thanks to you I just figured out but I have a mail and he is very very voiceterous..He does see if you things and if I leave the room he has a fit. Thank you for helping me figure it out
back when i got my baby, i had hoped get a male cockatiel but, ended up with a female that got used to male pronouns. so at this point i just say "yea, he's a he" because he used to show a lot of male traits when he was young, and the traits carried past his first hatchday, but suddenly dropped at about a year and two months or so. still glad i have my cuddly bird though.
Ha, my newly adopted girl is the opposite, solid grey feathers but pearling under her tail feathers. I didn't have her at a young age so no idea if she had it previously though.
I just got a 10 week old cockatiel baby. The breeder suspects them to be male, but I think she is female. But now I’m not sure with all this new information!! She is very quiet but she will contact call me if I leave the seat next to her cage. She bobs her head sometimes but no hopping. She’s still kind of clumsy being a baby and all though. She is a white faced cockatiel and from what I’ve seen the males have white heads and don’t have barbed tails while the females have grey heads and barbed tails. She has the former but I didn’t know they could change with a molt. Hasn’t had her first molt yet. I’ve taken to calling her Luna because her grey feathers remind me of the moon. Thanks for the video!
Fantastic video! Really helpful. I think my little Rocky is a male from what you have said. He has been saying his name from 3 months old and also does the phone ringing and can say 'uh-oh'. 😄 He's my third cockatiel and neither of the others spoke. He is 6 months old now and has been molting here in the unusually warm Scottish weather. As he is grey and white it is harder to tell the sex. He certainly spends a lot of time with his head down next to my face getting kisses and does the little pecking thing to my lips when I stop. He is absolutely adorable and I'd love him either way. Such an adorable little bird 🐦❤🏴
Thank you for explaining this I have two cockatiels one is laying a egg but the other has a loud voice and copies what I whistle so now I know who is who thanks again
Very useful information provided in very clean and concise manner. Highly underrated channel, the information provided is very useful, i verified the information from other sources too it corroborate with it, unless all are wrong😜🤭.
I had three cockatiels, all passed away. We named them Baby (our first bird, male), Ace (our second and first to pass, possibly female), and Juno (our third after Ace pass, male). We got all of them from a friend who was breeding cockatiels so they were siblings. Baby and Juno were our longest pair recognize the two were practically identical with bright cheeks, yellow heads, and solid dark gray bodies, and were equally as loud. Ace who pass under a year old had a lighter gray color and light color cheeks, Ace was slightly quieter then her brother Baby so we assumed Ace was a girl. Again if we were wrong, since I also thought Juno was female too, they kept their names as they were slightly gender neutral.
Love the video Your videos help me a lot with my parakeets/budgie and cockatiel Like broken blood feather... Try teaching pearl to talk Is pearl a male?
Very helpful. Even thought my baby is about 3months old I think it's a boy. Also helped me make my decision because of his aggression when wanting to be pet. He pecks my face and lowers his head also when wanting to be pet.
My boyfrien's mom has a pair of cockatiels. They had a nest of eggs and only one hatched. They decided when it gets old enough that I will be getting their baby. I found this video very informative and helpful. (Baby is only a couple weeks old rn but I was wondering how I'd tell when it gets older and how old so this was extremely helpful)
Thank you for the information. However, my cockatiel is an albino and it’s about two years old. It makes calling sounds and we believe it’s a male bird. Since it’s all white, it’s difficult to see the spotting or lively colors. Any other suggestions, besides taking it to the vet? Thank you again! Mario
After this video I’m sure my bird is a male but at the same time my cockatiel has the coloring of female so I’m a bit confused, can male birds have female colors?
Hi Kevin and 's flock I recommend this video idea in the last video and when I saw the title of this video I was so happy 😀 I have subscribed to your channel and brandens channel You are my favrite UA-camrs Thank you 😀 I'm thinking of buying Pearls cage please can you tell me the link ?
right after wathing this video i noticed ... it literally caught my attention ..and I saw "W" shape of he's tail end at 4:08 of this video... and I confirmed you're Cockatiel is a Male....
its so hard as i have a cinnamon cockatiel, who has a male appearance, female personality, and has lived most of her life in a cage, we think that the bird is a female but we'll never now, as we do not want to pull a feather or clip a toenail, we are not about hurting our bird for an uncertain test, love the vid but i still have no idea, also... the main reasoning for assuming that shes a female is due to the fact that she has connected with females faster, and has a very feminine attitude, hisses when you get in her space, gets a bit moody if you talk to her to early in the morning or late at night. would you recommend getting some kind of dna test or do you think our assumption might be right? again, loved the video, very educational.
I was today years old when I found out our two years old cockatiel is female. Her behaviour as explained in this video is 100% male except for the fact I found two eggs in her shelter today xd Gender is mostly stories we tell our brain to make sense out of reality
My 2 gray cockatiels are males they show all the signs my 3rd is a girl Morgan she has the spots on her tail and the blood work from the breeder but she dose do the hop thing my guess is she picked it up from the other 2 and she loud lol
Very informative video! Thank you! We’ve had Pip (pipsqueak) for a two weeks. The pet store said they think female but the orange spots a very bright and I do not see markings on the under tail. So I’m not sure. Also not sure how old Pip is.
Pretty sure I've got a female whom I named Ziggy going on2 years now and has real issues. I've been loving and patient and supplying every need possible. He just got to the point I can touch him with the millet spray only-no fingers. Question: trying to teach him to "come up" if he won't do it, do I still reward him with the treat? Please please help me.
I personally wouldn't reward him because he is not doing what he is told. If you do reward him he will think he is doing the right thing and wont see a problem with what he is doing
Mine hasn’t molted but looks like yours Pearl. The breeders are guessing male and he doesn’t make much sound now. He’s only been with us 4 days and chirped about 4 times. He acts like he starts the head bob then stops. He already wants to climb on me but I’m not used to birds being on me so I’m making him wait before I let him climb on me lol. I let him eat millet while holding him in my head and get head scratches. He attacks things and squeals when he doesn’t like it I guess. He’s only flown out of fear twice because something behind him moved and made a loud sound. His flying scared me the first time and I ran away then he purposely flew at me to see if I would run again lol. Have you don’t a video on bird bonding? I’ll look to see but I would love to know how you got your birds so comfortable with you and how your first couple of weeks were with them.
I’ve got a cockatiel about 2 months ago that we were told may be male from a breeder but we’ve become suspicious that it may actually be female. It absolutely loves me though and is really talkative
Hi my cockatiel fans the wings and tail - we still not sure if male or female BUT Koko has a come here call and does the wolf whistle - will have to wait as she/he is only 4 months old im told....
Whatever gender pearl is you all love her and she you all I love watching all of you and your videos so refreshing to watch something besides this corona virus stiff
I have a white cockatiel it only is white so what sanded out is the fact that they make a lot of noise as male and when I am not around he decides that my name is his name and trys to call me and he does this weird thing with ...
his head where he nods his head and then sometimes falls off his stick and he bites and hisses if he does not want to be petted or tries to pick him up and it's not me then he is mad and he is a bit older than a year.
I love your striped t-shirt. I think my cockatiel is a male now, except for his cheek patches. They are light muted peach color which is supposed to be on females only. But everything is shows male. He had his first molt and is now one year old.
I don't know if my cockatiel Charlie Bird is male or female. He/she screeches, lunges, huffs, and sways back and forth a lot, and his/her crest is always standing up. I've had Charlie Bird for a year and has not laid any eggs (yet). What Charlie Bird does is rip up the newspaper from the bottom of the cage, nibbles it and spits it out. Are these female or male behaviors? I taught Charlie bird "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands" and we will whistle it back and forth to each other until he/she gets tired. LOL! I talk to Charlie Bird, but Charlie doesn't talk back yet, hopefully soon. Oh and someone please explain the projectile pooping. I clean the cage 4 times a day :(
I need help figuring out mine. I thought she was a male at first, but then after a year she started showing strong female characteristics in personality and physically. But after another 6 months or so she started to get much more noisy making her own songs and funny sounding noises, still with a female body language. I’m not sure what to think
Perfectly explained. I am from Kerala, India have male grey and white female cockatiel with me. White one died after some months. So I am searching for a female from nearby shops. This video helped a lot. Thanks
We have an Albino who is almost five months. We are starting to see male traits, so we shall see.....If you do your birds nails and beak at home would you make a video showing us how you do it? Thanks
I have a cockatiel named frosty and I got told from the breeder that frosty was male but I think frosty is female and frosty is generally quiet and does whistle and talk and chirp and frosty is very sweet and has barrings near the tail and frosty is growing pearls at the moment and molting and frosty is 6 months old currently and frosty likes to peck at my stuff and will groom my hair and frosty is a white faced cinnamon pied I think or the other one and I think frosty is a girl but I’m not 100% sure yet
I think I need to do a DNA test :( unfortunately, my little baby has such a mix of features that it's impossible to say whether he's a boy or a girl. I bought them when they were about a year and a half old, so I don't know if there's colors have changed.
Thank you for the video❤ I haven't had cockatiels in 15 years. I am planning on getting some soon. My ex-husband always clipped their wings. Is this something that is suggested or bad idea?
Hi my name is Melanie Gilg and I have a Male Cocktail Merlin when I got my Cocktail from a private breeder and she had my cocktail DNA tested before I bought him for the lady that had feed him and tame him Merlin is 3 months old.
I have a 25 year old female cockatiel! She’s a feisty old gal, as her vet calls her. She actually is grey, yellow, white, and has bright orange cheeks. So many people have tried telling me she’s a boy. I can’t tell you how many eggs I’ve had to remove. Definitely a girl! Lol😂
I’ve had my white face pied cockatiel when it was about 4 weeks old it already shows a lot of sings like females do . I was hoping that its a male but maybe its still young to know for sure its around 2 months now.
Hi. Thanks for the video. However, I am still struggling to find. I have two adult yellow lutino cockatiels (around 3 years old) namely Eva and Rio. One of them, Rio, is definitely female as it had laid infertile eggs. Eva has never laid eggs but the cheek's colour, tail feathers are similar to Rio. The voice of the Eva is also twice as loud as Rio and Eva has shown greater aggression. Eva also exhibits beak banging, territorial behaviours but never whistles or sings. Eva is now constantly getting on top of Rio in a mating position and give out sounds as well. But I have not provided them with any nesting box as previously Rio laid infertile eggs and became very weak and unhealthy. I am planning to take them for a DNA test but since I live in countryside, finding proper centre is really difficult. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Kevin and Krista's Flock my budgie pîco is a boy he has only one ☝️ friend a finch named lini she feeds my budgie so my budgie also feeds her and then a cross mating happened
My cockatiel’s tail underneath is turning black,,I was thinking it could be male,,hope, hope,it is 2 months old. Yellow cheek, but hasn’t got the bright yellow yet
Just got my cockatiel on Saturday for my birthday. we are says it's a he but still not sure. The previous owner thought Shadow might be a he too. He is over 12 months old.
Please help me i bought a bird a lutino cockatiel the i wanted a female , shopkeeper says it is female and the othe pair was male it also acts like male at shop , but at my home the female started singing and being active( male was at the shop ) even though the other pair was male so this has to be a female why is this bird acting strange and vocal like male so why is it so vocal does female sing too

right after wathing this video i noticed ... it literally caught my attention ..and I saw "W" shape of he's tail end at 4:08 of this video... and I confirmed you're Cockatiel is a Male....
2:56 just drops feather on you and fly's away
Yes
the males come to the fight because they like to see us fight and want to join
its so hard as i have a cinnamon cockatiel, who has a male appearance, female personality, and has lived most of her life in a cage, we think that the bird is a female but we'll never now, as we do not want to pull a feather or clip a toenail, we are not about hurting our bird for an uncertain test, love the vid but i still have no idea, also... the main reasoning for assuming that shes a female is due to the fact that she has connected with females faster, and has a very feminine attitude, hisses when you get in her space, gets a bit moody if you talk to her to early in the morning or late at night.
would you recommend getting some kind of dna test or do you think our assumption might be right?
again, loved the video, very educational.
I was today years old when I found out our two years old cockatiel is female. Her behaviour as explained in this video is 100% male except for the fact I found two eggs in her shelter today xd Gender is mostly stories we tell our brain to make sense out of reality
Great video sharing
Yep, my boy is definitely a boy hahahhahah
Our older male cockatiel picks the heck out of his neck, what do you recommend. Seems the feathers don't want to come out of their casing
My 2 gray cockatiels are males they show all the signs my 3rd is a girl Morgan she has the spots on her tail and the blood work from the breeder but she dose do the hop thing my guess is she picked it up from the other 2 and she loud lol
Amie Sinclair - I guess she's learned how to get noticed with the other two around! 😄😄😄
Ok
Thanks for the info
The winner takes it all
Great information.
Perfect video I was looking for.. thanks for the info..also advise if the cokateil poop every 10-15 minutes is normal..
Reward when they come up to you
I personally wouldn't reward him because he is not doing what he is told. If you do reward him he will think he is doing the right thing and wont see a problem with what he is doing
I have a question have you planned on teaching pillow how to talk?
Elliso Alarcon - We haven't ruled it out yet... 😊
Ok
I am the 88th viewer your fan from India
kitchen with suryansh jadhav - Thanks for watching! 👍
I’ve got a cockatiel about 2 months ago that we were told may be male from a breeder but we’ve become suspicious that it may actually be female. It absolutely loves me though and is really talkative
Hates everyone else though. Just flies away
I’m contemplating getting a cockatiel but I work full time - would you suggest this or is it unfair to the bird?
I suggest if you really want a bird you should get two and a big size cage so they have company when you aren’t there
I work full time as well and yes, 2 birds works! They get alone easiky so gehy need company
Hi!!! I have some few questions about my cockatiel. We rescued him from a trash bin.
What food should I feed him? He’s not eating much formula anymore
Shauri Yuen Ebba - Pellets are best, along with fresh fruits and veggies. Good luck! 😊
I was hoping to identify the gender of my Elio but its only 2 months old so i gave it a neutral name for now 😁
Point out the lines under neither the tail feathers if you will please
I clean the cage 4 times a day :(
YOUR BIRDS ARE CUTE
Tku for the information
I need help figuring out mine. I thought she was a male at first, but then after a year she started showing strong female characteristics in personality and physically. But after another 6 months or so she started to get much more noisy making her own songs and funny sounding noises, still with a female body language. I’m not sure what to think
Perfectly explained. I am from Kerala, India have male grey and white female cockatiel with me. White one died after some months. So I am searching for a female from nearby shops. This video helped a lot. Thanks
Thank you we figured our is a female but it walks and it actually chirps loud like a male but it's a female
We have an Albino who is almost five months. We are starting to see male traits, so we shall see.....If you do your birds nails and beak at home would you make a video showing us how you do it? Thanks
gr8fulgirl7 - We're planning on that! 👍
Thank You for the informative! Rudy is a Male, but colors are muted?
I have an all yellow/with bits of white/ and bright orange spots. He/she is 2 years old now.
Pearl must be a male because he always wants to be kissed
😘
I have a cockatiel named frosty and I got told from the breeder that frosty was male but I think frosty is female and frosty is generally quiet and does whistle and talk and chirp and frosty is very sweet and has barrings near the tail and frosty is growing pearls at the moment and molting and frosty is 6 months old currently and frosty likes to peck at my stuff and will groom my hair and frosty is a white faced cinnamon pied I think or the other one and I think frosty is a girl but I’m not 100% sure yet
5:51 vibing birb
Can 2 bonded females live in the same cage together with one male and there is only one nest box ???
I’m getting a boy cockatiel!
I think I need to do a DNA test :( unfortunately, my little baby has such a mix of features that it's impossible to say whether he's a boy or a girl. I bought them when they were about a year and a half old, so I don't know if there's colors have changed.
Wow great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have two cockatiel male or female but they fighting
I’m new to this but like what’s an molt?
Mocha is a female. She laid eggs, but she acts more like a male. She is very vocal and seems to be very much in love with me. It’s crazy.
Lol😂
ty for this now i will know if i have 2 females or 2 males or a girl and a male 2m
I have a female :) would it be better to get her another female cage mate or a male? I'm not interested in breeding. Thanks!

Just got my cockatiel on Saturday for my birthday. we are says it's a he but still not sure. The previous owner thought Shadow might be a he too. He is over 12 months old.
My cockatiel was like 5 or 6 months and that was when I figured out he was male
Mine was almost 3 years old when i found out she was a girl💀the whole time i thought she was a boy
