Yamaha Phazer Dies without Choke & Billet Shottcraft Carb Plugs

- In this video, I'll show you what's wrong with my Yamaha Phazer project sled; it wants to die unless you flip choke lever occastionally. In previous videos, I cleaned out the fuel tank, and ran all new fuel lines, and rebuilt the carbs, but it's never been quite right. The rubber plugs in the bottom of Phazer carb fuel bowls shrink over time, and Shottcraft reached out to me and offered a set of their billet plugs with replacable vitron O-rings in an exchange for doing a video.
I'll walk you through removing the carbs, installing these billet plugs, and reassembling everything to see if it fixed the issue.

Switch the plugs in the carbs it was what happened to my phazer
I could possibly be wrong, but it sounds like a fuel pump issue or clogged pulse line, or the pickup in the tank may have fallen off.
In the future add a champer to the hole. Proceeds to next one. =D I guess you had at least your idle jets clogged. After watching, something else then idlejets.
Jets were clear tho.
Find a set of rack carbs of a v max 500 or 600 and jet them for your sled I did it and no issues
I like that idea; or flat slides. Loved the ones in my 01 ZR600
My guess is faulty fuel pump or clogged in-tank fuel filter.
Filter is brand new and tank is spotless.
@@ADDvanced Fuel pump then, if you haven't replaced or renovated it recently already. Fuel pump name is Mikuni Df52. A faulty fuel pump can actually cause the crank to seize, since fuel can collect in the case via the impulse-line and then wash the oil away from the bearings.
@@dankuspanku4650 Thank you for the info!
Would say to get a rebuild kit preferably a good brand or oem. When has the in tank filter been changed last? Wouldn't hurt to put in a new one since it's end of the season.
1.5 seasons ago with less than 3 tanks on it
Im thinking fuel pump or compression
Fuel pump is sus...
Wonder what the fuel pressure is when it starts to die.
These carbs are spotless inside. Idk why it acts like it’s not getting enough fuel.
@@ADDvanced Do you have some extra fuel line and a pump ball like from a boat? Mech or electric fuel pump? Assuming you're still starving a float bowl.
Did you check float height and verify it’s doing the right thing? I’ve had the same thing happen and it’s frustrating as hell. Any chance you have a known good set of phazer carbs to try? I don’t see that you say you have done fuel pump and of course you’ve bypassed tors right?
Float height is verified w micrometer, and tors is unplugged
Could it be the crankshaft seals?
Not sure what the symptoms are...
May have similar symptoms. The fuel/air mixture is sucked through the crankcase and up to the combustion chamber. If air leaks in through a crankshaft seal, you get the wrong fuel/air mixture. I don't know if it's a problem on this particular engine type but some two-strokes are sensitive to this.
Clogged or fuel filter blockage?
Filter is new
Test fuel pump
Yup that is sus
