I think you have hit the nail on the head, we cannot seem to produce a decent Prime Minister, you have to go back decades to find one. What is more worrying is you cannot get a Decent Chancellor, this is the worst of the lot which also reflects badly on the Bank of England who she previously work for and obviously learned nothing. I think you have to go all the way back to the late Nigel Lord Lawson to find a Chancellor who had the right ideas of how to run the country's economy and I say that as someone who was a Labour supporter at that time and was extremely Left Wing.
If What we are led to believe could have any creibility ? It is suggested the Actions of the Bank of England may have had some effect on Liz Trusses plan ending it before it had any chance
So Liz Truss proposed a tax rate cut, and starmer vilifies Brits for wanting to protect their children etc and denies OAPs a bit of money during the winter. Sorry absolutely no comparison.
It costs approximately £150 per person per day to house one of the 160,000 migrants who arrived in the U.K. by dinghy. So 2 days of housing 1 migrant who has contributed nothing to the U.K. either financially or culturally (other than riots), who will then want to bring his extended family to the U.K. once he is granted refugee status, is equal to one years heating allowance to someone born here Only a politician would think that is a fair trade

50 Labour MPs abstaining on the fuel allowance vote is just the beginning. They are getting the flak from constituents regarding Starmer's draconian decisions, and it'll only get more vociferous and frequent
That should be very obvious to anyone capable of independent thought. Starmer et al wanted even more harder and longer lockdowns during COVID. And the 500 billion quid they waste on COVID measures is why we are in the mess we are currently. We could have done virtually nothing on COVID and it would have made mostly no difference to the outcome. The problem we actually have is the people who are "leading" us currently are not up to the job.
Starmer and Reeves are screwing it up by lack of experience. I’m a sympathetic labour voter but even I feel depressed by their messaging technique. Keep this up for another few months and they can forget a second term.
Why isn't there any decent politicians around any more who'll work for the benefit of their constituents. They all seem to be in it for their greedy selves.
As a pensioner what I want to know is if I get hyperthermia this winter and die, will the government get away with it scott free. And if they do, who will stop them harming other pensioners ?
If you have hyperthermia, you will be too hot. You must mean hypothermia. You know as well as I do that no government ever gets off 'scot free'. Because, no matter how poorly it's administered, we live in a democracy and too many people voted for these jokers. What we need are less fools of voting age, or just more voters. Too many people here take no interest in politics until something happens they don't like. It's all knee-jerk reaction. Get upset because Boris Johnson lied? Vote him out! How bad do his lies seem now compared to the sadistic Keir Starmer? There must be hundreds of thousands of people kicking their own backsides for having voted Labour just because they wanted change. No one listened to Rishi Sunak two weeks before the general election but many were hanging on to his every words when he castigated Starmer in the Commons a few days ago. It's all horses for courses and every action should come with a government health warning, i.e. "be careful what you wish for".
Tories broke an election promise in 2021/22 to meet the Triple Lock payment for pensioners. Where were the Tory media, the right and left wing, and yourself when they broke this manifesto pledge? Our hungry eyes look for a leader with integrity who connects with the people. 20% of the registered electorate voted Labour. 20% ! We need a Legitimate Leader who will Reform parliament to represent voters.
Pensioners should not have been used by Labour to set out their stall for the budget , no more than unions should be telling the government what they should do .
So , they didn’t bother to have an impact study …. Well, does that not go to prove they really are cold hearted and cynical …. Perhaps they will start sending the pensioners abroad as they are planning to do with prisoners. As a pensioner , it just makes me feel that as far as the present government is concerned I have outlived my usefulness to the country .
Truss and Starmer both made the mistake of attempting to radically change the country, albeit with completely different visions. However, their efforts highlight a larger issue: the country's deep resistance to change. And that, perhaps, is the most concerning aspect of all.
I don’t think it is about change. This is about how it has been delivered in such a crass way. There are many options to deliver this change other then this. That said I would challenge the notion that OAP’s have the broadest shoulders. Some maybe but not all. MP’s still claiming fuel allowance - the hypocrisy is breathtaking.
Labour have fallen at the first hurdle, this was the worst possible way to save money. I agree some pensioners do not need the winter fuel allowance, but it should have been means tested to ensure those who need it get it. But why go after pensioners? Why not go after the Companies who are profiteering whilst providing goods and services required to allow people to live, the energy providers, the supermarkets. Set a fair profit margin for these Companies and tax any excess profit off them. They are in a unique position because what they provide are basics for human existence, they use this advantage to squeeze every bit of profit they can to pay big bonuses to directors and dividends to shareholders. Labour appear to be Tories in disguise.
Stupendous? Many couldn’t be bothered to vote knowing g there was hardly a choice and Corbyn got many more votes. oh and I forgot everyone hated the Tories. No we’ve been let down, not that I voted for them, I intense,y dislike Starmer’s attitude to war and genocide.
Labour have their own selves to blame for being greedy and agreeing to keep the rates of VAT, Income Tax and National Insurance the same. That is, their mantra of not increasing tax for working people. As pensioners are supposed to be retired they probably thought it was their 'get our of jail free' card. Despite those not claiming pensions credit saving them a huge amount of money they have decided, almost in a fit of pique, to take the up to £300 away without even a 'by your leave'. This can only be described as the politics of envy. Usually there is a build up by which Labour target a minority and suggest they are receiving something others are not. Then they vilify them. Lastly, they withdraw the money. The IEA and others have it that pensioners are millionaires and yes lots are given their property value, however living in an expensive house does not confer an income. Too many are asset rich and cash poor. It is something lost on local authorities when setting the council tax. However, there are increasing numbers of pensioners who are renting and struggling. Last year the Conservatives pressured the BBC to scrap the free TV Licence for over 75s. Then it was £159 now £170. In the months since this was repealed that is £329 extra to be found. This year it is the winter fuel payment £300 plus the energy price cap is increasing by £150. That is £450 extra to be found. We haven't even mentioned a harsh winter as the last one was in 2018 and everyone assumes another mild one is due. If this winter turns out to be worse than the Beast from the East in 2018 then Labour will have successfully killed off thousands of pensioners. I say successfully because I can only imagine inheritance tax is going up in the budget or at the very least pensions will become taxable at death. This is cynical.
I can tell you my work place pension has dropped 7K.. it dropped by 8K after Liz Truss waved her magic wand. So now I have to wait until it recovers 🤞 again. I’m 67
The rise to state pension is only for pensioners born after 1951, who are on the New State Pension. Many older pensioners will be plunged into abject poverty, as they need to keep their homes warm to survive.
