- Quick review of a clients riding mower, 2019 model year, machine was left outside for at least 8 months. fuel system was full of water and debris, engine was severely overfilled with oil, after correcting all of these issues it is now running like a top ready to be returned to our client.
moral of story, do not leave your machine outside not covered up, if you want to leave your machine outside get 2 15x15 foot tarps, lay one on ground, ride mower onto the tarp, then use second one to cover top of machine, this allows machine to stay as dry as possible out side, plus use heavy bricks on each corner to keep tarp on machine.

I've had mine since 2017. Every fall, I deep clean and service this unit and have never had an issue with it. Great machine, and I take good care of it.

Same here. Religious maintenance, and mine works like new. I have the Powermore 382cc on mine. (Better than the Briggs 344cc IMO.).
I have one of these. This design has many name plates, including Troy-Bilt and Cub Cadet. Mine was purchased in 2017 and is a Craftsman R1000 . At 2:00 into this video, the machine will not run without something there. There is a button/lockout the chute depresses. At 6:05 the battery tray & hold-down can get rusty but replacements are available.
At 7:17 in the video is the mowers biggest weakness, it's stamped deck. See what that spring attaches to ? That engages the blade. It pivots on that nut and pushes the blade brake away while a pulley tensions the deck belt. If rust weakens the pivot hole in the deck you lose the ability to engage the blade. I'm on my third deck. I also rebuilt the steering. No problems with engine or electrical (other than new battery). It's modded to cut in reverse. When it finally dies, I'm going to buy the same design. Perfect size for 1/2 acre, great mower.
Bought on in March of this year and I love it! We have a small, sloped lot and it has no issues with hauling my girth (320lbs) around. We're into November now, and I am primarily using it for mulching in leaves. Use it weekly; have not hit any issues with it at all.

Bought mine basically brand new about 2 years ago from a fellow who took it in on a trade. He only used it 3 times as his yard was too small for a rider. Got it for $500 and I love it ! 😀 My yard is small but was tired of pushing. Also somewhat sloped so I have to be creative while mowing. It has been flawless so far. Would recommend to anyone with a smaller area.

Dear friend, after. I had trouble I learned, when someone bought Craftman R110 or R100 same model. If you started not working, you needed to check on PTO ( Blade Engage ) Lever go Down ( up < * ) it's not start (* >reverse Down, it's Star ) if you don't do that, it's won't Start and you needed push Clutch/Brake Pedal so harder, will start.

Not a bad little mower for the money and for small yards.A major defect and continuing problem is the steering gears are poor quality.They consist of sproket and comb like gear plate are very soft and wear down quickly and the steering wheel loses control.
I had mine model 29900 for about 5 years now. So far so good. But I keep it inside the garage and treat it as best as I can.
I just bought this mower from Lowes about a week ago I have two narrow gateways to go through between two different properties so it is very convenient however it does have its issues I would like to see the gearshifter moved off to the side,,,right between your legs is a pain and the more you use the gear shifter going between forward reverse the more the knob starts to work off of the gear shifter and you have to push it back down,,, it will pop if I decelerate quickly through the muffler and the steering has no return whatsoever making tight turns
R110: How To mow in Reverse, blades engaged, WITHOUT disconnecting wires! OKAY, put it in Neutral, brake pedal engaged. Start the engine as normal. Before you move an inch, turn the key from GREEN 🟢 to YELLOW 🟡 "R ➡️ F" mode. Which is "Reverse to Forward" mode, press the YELLOW triangle⚠️ , a light comes on. Keep It On Yellow 💛 for your entire mowing session! Now, to go Forward, press your foot break down, put it in Forward gear on the knob under your seat (blades engaged or not), key remains in YELLOW 💛, you are moving Forward. Then when you want to reverse, foot break down, put it in Reverse Gear on the knob under your seat (blades engaged or not), key remains in YELLOW 💛 , you are moving in Reverse. Since it's "not recommended", the directions are NOT clear. But no wire cutting ✂️ necessary. Enjoy 🚜 ⚠️💛 ⬅️➡️ 😊

After 29 days I'm returning to Lowe's the Craftsmen 30" mower. The break is very hard to press and while releasing it to drive to front or to back the mower is often standing up on the back 2 wheels. Very dangerous plus smallest uneven ground (less as 12% or lager hole in the ground) I felt as the machine will overturn. It's true that the price is very affordable, easy to maneuver front wheels but the shaft to change gear hard to reach if you are on uneven terrain because you need to balance with your body the mower to avoid flip over. Another experience is that even if I changed the gear from REVERSE to FRONT (while pressing break) the mower was going to reverse! It started to move to front after I once again pressed the break and released it.
Please also note that if you purchase that mower with the store delivery, you can return the mower during 30 days from the date of purchase NOT delivery date. If you got Lowe's delivery 10 days after the date of purchase you are left with only 20 days to return it.
Thanks for the info I just bought this and my slope is pretty steep and it says in the manual it’ll cut off going up slopes and to go in reverse if it cut off. I’m terrified of the thing tipping over because mine slopes on the south and east side so either way I’ll be cutting across the slopes not up and down.
I am seriously excited. I had one GIVEN to me, and it's fixed ready to roll, except the front tires won't hold air. So, that I'm taking to get ordered tomorrow and I won't have to use the PHD mowers (push here dummy, thank you Auntie)
These newer ones have a smaller engine, and this week the craftsman model was twice what i paid in 2012.

Excellent review! Good info and especially on some of the issues with regards to having water in the tank and what happens when you disregard your machine!
The only requirements to start the mower are #1 mow deck disengaged #2 clutch/brake pedal pressed. It can be set at any speed it does not need to be in park, it can be in forward or reverse and still start. Also, there is a middle position on the key that when placed there after starting, you can press the little yellow triangle, then the mower will mow in reverse without killing the engine. That mower should have died when he got off of it due to a safety switch under the seat, it must be defective or bypassed.
If you set the brake in park, the mower wont die if your not on the seat.....
IF IT MOVES: LUBRICATE IT!
IF IT DON'T: CLEAN & PAINT IT ( Got an leather guy to reapolster the seat - I never cut in the rain or left it out so why not! If he can do my 87 HD SEAT? WHY NOT?😀

How steep of an actual slope were you on when it kept losing traction? I'm considering buying on of these but we have fairly steep slopes on either side of our house because it's a walk-out basement. Seeing this makes me very leery of this model (or perhaps the small rear-engine models in general).
I have this type of mower. I would not recommend for slopes but it cuts great on flat ground.
I have basically same mower but in a Murray version has 10.5 briggs. No reverse mow button had to remove wire clip to mow in reverse. The mower works great and it very peppy and mine has popped a wheelie when I was in a rut and both back tires got traction. The mower fits in my shed Great as it has a 42" door. I put a extender handle on speed shifter so don't have to reach down so far to adjust speed. I paid $964 for it last spring '19 from walmart as they have since raised the price to $1164 since lowes and Home depot sells there's for $1199 which is priced to high for this mower. You can buy a troy bilt front engine 42" mower for $1299 Which would be a better bang for the buck.
I have the same R110, and I have lost 1st and 2nd speed. Works fine as long as 3+ is selected. Any ideas. Not service center in my area works on craftsman.

Got a good question for you, please and thank you. I left my gas cap off and sat on the seat, felt like a blew a rock out from under the mower, it started but wouldn't move. My idler arm was broken??? Could I have caused that? ps LOL I am not heavy, 167 lbs. The gas lid actually had a red mark and a small area indented, and the grill under the seat had a small busted area on the circular part? Thank you,.

I have the same mower but with the Troy Bilt label. If I get off of the seat while the engine is running, a kill switch shuts off the engine for safety. Did you disable the kill switch on this machine? If so, you are disabling a safety feature for the operator. I really like this machine. I have had it for three seasons and it works very well for me. Thanks for the video.
If you have it in Park (stop) with blade disengaged and in Neutral you can get off the seat with the engine still running.
I am having a problem with my blade engaging, what causing that problem
I've got the same mower but I have a distinct rattle that comes from the front when I engage the mower and mowing. The rattle goes away when the mower ia not engaged
Not to sound sarcastic or anything however have you raised it up and looked under the deck to make sure nothings wrapped around the blade
I had the same issue with mine. There is a chrome colored wire bracket that holds the blade belt in place if it happens to fall off. It’s between the frame and the cutting deck, one side of it hooks into the frame and the other side bolts onto the frame. In mine the bolt fell off or may have never been installed as it was always loud and rattled. I just installed a new bolt and washers that I had lying around and now it’s quieter then it’s ever been. There are pictures of where the bracket goes in the owners manual if you still have it.
Liked year 1. Year 2 not so much. Cleaned carburetor, fresh fuel, fuel filter, air, etc.. runs a while then sounds like it’s idling up then shuts off. I don’t have the parts sticker under my seat. I have a book but doesn’t specify spark plug. I tried an E3-20 and it’s worse. What should I be using? I’m seriously debating taking this thing out with a shotgun and hiring someone. I absolutely hate this machine.
If I was you I would replace the Briggs engine with a kohler as in my experience they are much better
There could possibly be a bunch of garbage inside the gas lines or the gas tank that is clogging the gas from entering inside. Or it could be the gas tank cap that is clogged that does not let there be any pressure. Try to test the gas cap by taking it off when it’s about to shut off or use it without the cap for a while
I have trouble with moving the gear from neutral to forward. So, I have to move it to forward when I'm off the machine, then start it while it's in forward. Doesn't want to go up a small sloped area, so I go down instead of up. Also, I had to have the break adjusted after using it 3 times. Otherwise, it has a nice cut. Question, can a snow blade be attached?
Can someone tell me where the hose from the air filter attaches? It came loose and I have no idea where to attach it. Fuel line is on just fine.
I have this mower but purchased mine in @2015, the only difference I see is that I cannot reverse unless I disengage the cutter blade. Do you know if there is a way to over this so that I can mow in reverse?

Bought this last .. It's been a nightmare to learn how to use if you're used to a regular tractor lawn mower. if your upgrading from a 21 inch walk behind you will love it.. but issues continue today I backed it out changed from bagger to mulch now refuses to start. won''t even click ..battery good. but can't find anything for support on what's going on... spend the extra 200 buck and get something that will work with alot more attachments.
I know at least some models have a kill switch sensor which must be depressed by either the bagger or the mulcher. The mulching plate might not be depressing it fully.

Check your spark plug. Mine had the same issue but after replacing the spark plug; it’s running smooth.

@@ceciliaball3509 you need a socket wrench in order to remove the one screw holding the bar across the top in place. After that it comes right out.
@@fdavis1969 We Just Spent Over 40 Minutes Trying To Do That And Could Not Reach The Bolt Properly To Use The Socket Wrench Because Of The Way The Bolt Is Facing. This Is So Frustrating Because We Will Have To Hire Someone To Remove The Battery For Us And Replace It Every Winter When We Want To Store The Battery. We Had To Leave It In Place And Not Be Able To Use The Mower. I Wish They Would Have Left The Battery Under The Seat. But Thank You For Responding.
@@ceciliaball3509 I was so frustrated because my battery had given out and I couldn't get the old one out. Between that and the kill switches built in to this thing I was about to call a repair man. Finally I saw the one screw holding that arm in place It prevents you from lifting it up. I don't know how I can show you a picture of what I did. What type an weight of oil do u use in this mower??
Straight 30 weight oil is sufficient
The oil container will say sae 30 on it you can use other other oils
Like 15w30 just so long as it says
30 note temperature at time of use should be taken into consideration
but sae 30 is adequate for most temperatures in your manual you should have an oil viscosity to temperature diagram if you do not

When do you know when to change the gears?
It just depends on how fast you want to mow. I personally like to mow on speed #2. It's slow but I'm in no hurry and it cuts the grass well.
IS THERE A KILL SWITCH FOR THE BLADE NOT BEING DISENGAGE? everytime backing up blade disengaged
Well, I don't have this mower, but I've watched enough videos to tell you that this is a safety feature. If you do want to mow in reverse while engaged, you need to move the key position to the yellow. There's a couple other videos out there that outline this procedure, good luck
Put the key in the yellow area and hold the triangle down until a red light comes on and then you will be able to back up
@@ChiMasterFlex As with anything it comes down to common sense,if you are cautious and pay attention to your surroundings it's fine.They put the kill switch there for the majority of the idiots out there.

1. Keep battery on a maintainer & clean carb & air cleaner : as I 🤬 curse ETHANOL!
2. Change oil like your shoes: put a on a draining hose & a " low point drain" -" wing nut" plug / or get one made, less HOT OIL on the fingers!
3. Check tire pressure or a tight turn on a low tire will take it over off the rim(- wire tie / ties to collapse & raise the bead. KEEP IT CLEAN GOES WITHOUT SAYING! BUT GET A GATOR BLADE & @1 INCH OR LESS AT A PASS = A FOOD PROCESSOR & GOLF GREEN L AWN! ! SEARS ( RIP) ALeans me away from Toro FWD. Or any other but never a :" 2X battery grass chewer & hill maker : neighbors got one: back to gas ( 100LL aviation gas- no ETHANOL - water, gum or scum + stabilizer - Snow blower too: OIL is your best investment next ! 😀 But never believe 💸😭🤬☠️ " never change oil" claims - it means :" change mowers in 4 -5 seasons! ☠️ " TURNING IT OVER OR UPSIDE DOWN : IS INSANE!
