    This is a very sturdy and well built mower. I thought I wouldn't like the foot operated speed control but after one use ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTZSPVwJFBv2hORqhQamtxi-tAe5K2EtC , I can't believe I ever had one without it. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission. Easy to adjust mowing speed according to grass depth/thickness. I have yet to get used to the long throw of the blade engagement lever but kind of get why it is that way. It allows you to hold mowing for short moments if you need. The engine seems very substantial and the frame has very little flex, both adding up to an impressive package. All my previous tractors were 18 to21 hp with 42in decks. This one is 23/46. I mow about 1.5 acres about every 5 days here in Alaska and that mowing time has been reduced by about 20%, partly due to the very tight turning radius. No loop arounds lol. Hour meter, cruise control, reverse mowing capability,deck cleanout and easy assembly all add up to a very well thought out tractor.

    I bought one through Lowe's to help with the yard work. We have a smaller lot (20,000sqft) with a slight slope. It's been great! I am 320 pounds, and this mower has no issues hauling my weight around. LOVE how close the #1 setting on the blades gets the lawn - almost looks like a fairway when done! I am SO impressed with the TIGHT turning radius! I get around and up close to EVERYTHING.
    I've hit one or two issues with controlling the rider - but it was just me learning how to drive it.

    I bought this mower this week. I have been given several manuals and not one told me how to actually start the thing! I was about to return it, but then I decided to look up Craftsman R110 mower and this is what I found! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this introduction to my new mower. I'm going to watch the video several times until I can recite the order to do things! This is my first riding mower and I'm 71 years old. Going to be very careful!

      You are most welcome! You can rest assured, that if you can’t figure something out. Someone on UA-cam knows how. I appreciate you watching and commenting. This riding mower is nice. But I will say out of all the riding mowers I have operated, this one is the most complicated. But once you do it a few times, it becomes second nature.

    I've owned one of these for 10 years now. I have a little less than a half acre. It does a great job. I got it because when I use a walk behind mower, it aggravates my allergies. I can't use any setting lower than 3 or it will cut too short. It would be nice if the blade deck floated. I have a little hill that it does just fine if I drive perpendicular to it. All in all, it's a fun little mower and makes cutting the grass fun. I have the mulch kit and makes short work of he leaves in the fall.

    I have had this mower since around 2012. The older version (rer1000) had the 420cc MTD motor. Otherwise it looks about the same.
    Still going strong! I can cut my 1AC yard on about 1/2 to 2/3 of a tank of fuel. That is with the side ejector on... which allows me to cut going full speed. With the mulcher on I have to go about 1/2 speed to get a clean cut since I tend to let the grass get too long. Bagger works great when I use it as well! I can still go full speed with the bagger so long as the grass is dry.
    I have disabled a lot of the safety switches. I am a safe driver though.
    Tows loaded carts and spike aerators really well!!!

      they dropped mine off and ran yesterday and like your books mine was dripping wet also, it had been in water it was turning brown. i put it back in the bag and called the store and they are going to run me a copy, tried to down load but couldn't print it. nothing like my first craftsman, it was big and green and i learned how to take care of it, this one so different, but that was around 1999 and 2000. then i moved and gave it away, just have a small yard with lots of flowers and bushes, haven't cranked it yet and its raining today so its still in the carport, will get on it when it dries out. this video helped me tremendous, otherwise i would have to ask my niece to help me figure it out, i am 77 now and not as sharp as i once was. i am glad i know about the return policy, might end up returning it!

    I bought this mower 2 years ago. Great overall. My only complaint is when you take off it jerks. Any speed, no stopping it from happening. Also you can just disconnect the reverse safety switch (at your own risk) I did.. If you can afford it go for one with a hydrostatic drive (like the Cub Cadet CC30H) and save the constant jolting.

    Good video. The only other thing I would add is showing the safety switch connected to the chute cover. If it gets dislodged or debris gets in the way it can prevent the cover from fully pressing the switch and the mower won’t start, the same as if you’re not sitting on the seat switch. A lot of people have that problem with this mower. Always check that switch first if the mower isn’t starting.

    The only thing I dont like about the machine, is where the forward and reverse gear shift is. If your 5'6 or shorter like I am ,it's difficult in reaching the shift handle. I took the the seat mounting bolts, drilled 2 holes further back and moved the seat back about an inch 1/2 . It's not perfect ,but makes it easier to reach the shift handle. Wish it was on the fender near the throttle control.

    Some may find the foot rests can be a bit slick. Feels like your foot could slip off anytime. If you find this to be an issue, I sprayed blac k non-skid paint with a touch of fine sand. After 29 days I'm returning to Lowe's the Craftsmen 30" mower. The break is very hard to press and while releasing it to drive to front or to back the mower is often standing up on the back 2 wheels. Very dangerous plus smallest uneven ground (less as 12% or lager hole in the ground) I felt as the machine will overturn. It's true that the price is very affordable, easy to maneuver front wheels but the shaft to change gear hard to reach if you are on uneven terrain because you need to balance with your body the mower to avoid flip over. Another experience is that even if I changed the gear from REVERSE to FRONT (while pressing break) the mower was going to reverse! It started to move to front after I once again pressed the break and released it.
    Please also note that if you purchase that mower with the store delivery, you can return the mower during 30 days from the date of purchase NOT delivery date. If you got Lowe's delivery 10 days after the date of purchase you are left with only 20 days to return it.

    January 2023 Nice machine for the price. One negative comment : The raised lettering for all the controls is difficult to see: ie the lettering is painted (RED), the same color as the mower! Darkened all the letters with a Sharpie. Too early to give a review of its performace. As an aside, I bought a Craftsman10HP 5 speed brand new Ride- On Mower from Sears in 1998 for $974.00 including tax! It still runs great ( January CY2023)! Easy to operate. Drivebelt broke recently and the undercarriage must be removed to replace it. I plan to fix it in time. We`ll see how the new mower performs!

    Lowe's delivered my new R110 a week ago. I ordered a bagger with the mower. Mower came with a tow plate that bolts to the rear, but doesn't extend back far enough to accept a tow ball with the bagger attached. Frustrating! After making and selling thousands of these mowers one would think that compatibility of components would have been solved by now.

    I recently purchased this from the original owner that had only used it twice. The problem I have experienced is if the steering will is turned all the way in either direction it sticks in place. It takes a hard tug on the wheel to move back. That causes it to plow with the front wheels until you can pull it back. Doesn't seem that this should be a natural thing for the mower.

    • @rjguess
      @rjguess  4 роки тому +1

      Ronald Coker it’s not. Mine doesn’t do it. But I did have an older model like this made by weed eater one. The same thing you are experiencing happened to my older model. If you look under the mower where the front wheels are while someone is turning the steering, you will see a small price where there is a locking pin near it. On my old one that part got bent. It caused it to hang up when the wheels where turned all the way. You should be able to bend it back and solve the issue.

      Hopefully you've found the problem by now, but there's a little safety interlock switch on the mower deck. When you attach the black plastic discharge chute, it pushes that switch to enable the mower to crank up. Sometimes that chute can move like when you hit something, and dislodge the chute so that it's not pushing the switch in. So, check that little switch!!!

    if you use the side discharge you need to use highlift blades. If you want to block the chute, you need to put on a mulching blade. "made in the USA with global materials " is a marketing scam, meaning is assembled in the USA with cheap Chinese materials.

      @@rjguess ah ok, thanks! good to know. It has the same engine as the new Troy-Bilt TB30 B model and the Cub Cadet CC30 H model they just advertised on their websites. I wonder why they keep reducing the engine size on that model. 5 years ago it was 420cc, then they switched to a 382cc engine, and now they're made with a 344cc engine.

      @@rjguess well, one reason is MTD changes who they buy engines from every few years. Another reason could be that model may have been overpowered like a lot of riding mowers are these days to the point where they're just wasting horsepower and gas. I've never heard any complaints about your model being underpowered yet but that 344cc engine is still new for that model. How do you like it? Does it ever get bogged down?

    Mine arrived yesterday and the freaking battery is dead!! From what I can tell it's all connected but it won't even click or turn over, absolutely nothing! Is that how these arrive? I appreciate the tutorial but also talk about battery issues and how the average unknowing person can resolve this issue on a brand new mower? Thanks for tips too!

    • @rjguess
      @rjguess  Рік тому

      I’ve never experienced a new lawnmower arriving DOA. But if it did I would be calling them back! That battery should have been charged. When we buy cars they don’t come brand new with a dead battery. Neither should your new lawnmower. I would definitely call the place you ordered it from and tell them. They may be able to replace the battery. I’m sorry to read that you are going through this. It’s not a fun time. Hope your issue gets resolved soon!

    Can this lawnmower move in cut mode faster then 10 mph like commercial stand on mowers?

    • @rjguess
      @rjguess  5 місяців тому

      No, unfortunately the faster you mow with the the worse the grass looks. At least in my case. I usually mow my grass at speeds 1-3. It has 6 speeds. I’m not sure how fast in mph that is. But the fast you go the worse the cut.
