I bought Dickass brakes back in 2016 (when they were REALLY cheap) and I plan to use the china rods and pistons as well eventually. Well done Andrew, beers well deserved last night. Now just got the first 500k's to break the motor in and bed those rings properly, thankfully you didn't have any custom cams or had yours ground as that's a whole different level of nerves breaking them in, especially on a new motor. Drive it hard for the first 500k's, and vary the driving, just don't go redlining it - keep it to maybe 5,500rpm tops. You want as much load on the motor as possible while doing it, but without over revving it.
    If the car had a tow bar, a heavily loaded trailer being pulled uphill is best, revs stay constant and, with a decent load on it, really helps bed the motors in. Failing that, the other thing you could do (that would be zero risk for overrevving the engine but still putting it under a constant load) would be to throw it in a boat and go for gold - believe it or not, one of the best ways to break a motor in!

    • @ichoozjc

    Hey dude, Dont let a freshly bullt engine idle more then 1 or 2 mins. You need to immediatley go drive it and do the break in procedure or your rings wont set correctly and you wont have good compression. 50 km of 2000-3000 rimp light throttle with engine decels and 3000-4000 with light throttle and then same thing with medium throttle with not getting into it. Then change Oil and filters and do 300km of light and moderate driving.

    Don't be scared to give a bit of boost quickly. Every time I have run in an engine the old fashioned recommended way it's burned oil. When running in my turbo Nissan I just drove normally and boosted it a bit and years later it still burns no oil. Of course if it all goes wrong I'll delete this comment and deny any knowledge of it. :-)

    Nice work, Andrew! No weird sounds, phew. 😀 Now don’t overthink the bed-in process, all you’re doing is getting the rings to seal, that’s it. And because you didn’t hone/bore the cylinders, it should really only take 100kms, if that. The usual varying rpm putting some mild load on the engine and then backing off a bit is all that’s required. Skids incoming!!!

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  2 роки тому

      It really depends. A good condition stock subframe, suspension and diff (if welded) will do a 9 1/4 mile. Upgrading this stuff, is mainly for personal preference and better handling. Which is relevant at stock power levels.

    At 15:20 you said with the Lamik you don’t actually have a park can you elaborate a little please

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  2 роки тому +1

      The park lock on a 8HP is electronic, it has its own solenoid to lock the trans in park. The lamik controller doesn't connect to that solenoid. So you need to think of it like a manual trans and make sure your handbrake is good. You could possibly connect a cable, the trans does have an external lever to manually override the park lock when the car is crashed etc. That said i never like the feel of pulling a trans out of park lock when it loaded up.

      @@n54addictmotorsports I only see it on N54s where the crank hubs have been changed or replaced even guys using the latest friction discs/hub part numbers still have them slip. I have never spoken to anyone personally or through the channel who has had a N54 one slip on an original factory fitted crank hub. Was talking to a (alleged) mechanic who said he re-timed "heaps" of n54s over the years (stock ones) and that it is a common problem and that im an idiot, but when asking for more information he went a bit soft, which really made him look like he was just typing with out thinking, and what he classed as "a lot" was actually a single example on a car he has no history on (i think the term is keyboard warrior). But my understanding the lack of valvetronic and lighter load on the timing/oil chains in general means the N54s dont or shouldnt slip under normal use-age, regardless of power levels. I speak to a lot of tuned owners, the real OGs on the platform, not muppets on social media pushing products, but guys that have proven cars. Even our single was running at 35psi being revved to 8000rpm for over 3 years with no crank hub slips. I get a money shift causing it, but don't see it as a common issue on any factory fitted hub. That said, generally the N54s dont get revved that hard and maybe an N54 DCT being revved to 7500 like the N55/S55 will mean we see them becoming an issue more often. I feel like its a fast RPM change that will cause a slip. Not a power level, but admittedly its the high power cars that are being revved to 8000rpm and thrashed where its more likely a user error will put the engine through an event where it goes from 7500rpm to 2500rpm instantly.
