In this episode we take a look at some facts, secrets, and history of Mario Party. Mario Party is a party game series developed by Hudson Soft (and later Nd Cube) and published by Nintendo. The series currently holds the record for the longest-running minigame series, and has sold around 40 million copies combined. Although the series is fairly innocent, it has seen many controversies over the years.

If Mario Party and Banjo Kazooie have taught me anything about game design, it's not to replace core gameplay mechanics with vehicles.
Cars? CARS? CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRS
Yes! Thank you!!
Mr. Stonefallow SHIET!
Oh, you are referencing banjo kazooie nuts and bolts, watch jontrons video on it.
I agree with you on that one, athough I thought that Shy Guy Shuffle was the only good game from Mario Party 10.
The Kart could have worked in Mario Party 9-10.
IF it were a separate game mode instead of replacing the older mechanics.
+inarjollyhound ^
Or was a Board Event, where for 1 Turn, everybody is a Car, starting from the space of the Player that landed on it.
+TakerKaneanite619 *Is in a Car.
I dont think that would have helped much. Answer 1 was more dynamic boards which would have slowed game pace, or the car. I believe the real problem is that you have so few good choices, you very rarely get to impact other players with your actions except that they start where you start. If they made the boards not so linear and did more interesting things with it, it would be alot more fun, for example, a circular map where the inner ring is gold spaces (10 coins) the middle ring be red, and outer ring blue. That way, if you choose to go the red path, everyone suffers. Or more events like changing the track so that players are forced to go the way you want. Sure not so black and white, but somehing along the lines.
+inarjollyhound agreed one hundred percent
So THAT's the reason for the cart... *casuals*.
+Hawelo92 It is a stupid reason
+Hedge Hawk (Super Hedge Hawk 52550) It's not stupid, it's just naive.
+SonicmaniaVideos yeah :/
It makes a lot of sense from a business and developer's perspective...
just not from most players' perspectives. Nintendo fails to realize that most of the fans of Mario Party hate this new car. Also that's just not how board games fucking work. They have always been separate.
+Hedge Hawk (Super Hedge Hawk 52550) It's also an untrue reason... You have to pay even less attention than other games.
The irony is that putting all players in 1 vehicle doesn't keep ANYONE engaged at all. It basically killed the series and has done major damage to the brand.
+TheBitBlock The reasoning behind the vehicle mechanic is so unusual to me... Like in any other real life board game, we never see everyone going at the same time or being moved with another person. The concept of Mario Party being a board game is completely gone. It's not even a board game anymore.
+Shirma Akayaku people seem to think it's because they weren't legally allowed to use the same formula since hudsoft went under.
@@bluephoniex6356 yeah maybe they shouldn't have let the freaking company fail or at least buy the serie rights after it failed
"The actions of the other players often didn't affect you." What version of Mario Party 2 has HE been playing?
i know right. you'd have to be the only person who plays games in the living room while the rest are grandmas for this to work. even if you are the most experienced player, people will just gang up on you. mario party is a merciless game, especially with all the items and hidden blocks.
i love the first 3 mario party games. if it wasnt for mario party 1's bad dice block system, i would say that 1 and 2 are tied but 2 is clearly superior.
Daniel 316 i like one because its simpler and has no items so the competitive advantages work differently from the others. Stand alone, not just a downgraded version of future mario parties.
2 was awesome, had just 1 item which is also good. Minigames are a lot of fun and items are really cheap.
3 had the most creative items. The reverse mushroom was down right broken, it was amazing.
I find those to be worth playing and completely standalone. If i had to pick, id say the best one is 3 because of that and the lag of 1 player minigames from mario party 1 which were a bit unfair.
Id say that the best board is spiny desert because of that cool mirage. Also, it is very likely that many people will land on happening spaces. This will allow to move quickly around the board and make the happening star less predictable.
Minigames on all of them were amazing, thats something that i dont really thing needs being compared. Battle games were a fun addition though. Game guy was 100 times scarier than anything in any horror movie ever.
he hasn't played anything clearly but hudson is the one who would ususally make Mario party games till they went bankrupt it also effected players but he does have vaild point sometimes it was pain just to wait for computers to go
A Mario Party 1-3 remaster collection with online would be better than a new game honestly.
agreed
Nintendo doesn't like good ideas that would please their fans.
+Justin ™ The new game sucked balls... not just because everyone was in a kart together... but because the games and the aesthetics of the actual boards you can use are soooo bland... the only good thing i can think of to come from the new mario party was the inclusion of the amiibo's on one specific level... but even that couldn't save it.
+Justin ™ As much as I want it to happen, it's not going to...
+Justin ™ I'd pay full price with a season pass if that was a thing.

+DidYouKnowGaming? Make me wonder why "Move to the Mambo!" wasn't in the North America version? Legal reasons perhaps, who knows?
+DidYouKnowGaming?
I hate how players don't get to move freely around the board anymore!
thats why I haven't bought any of the newer games. if anything the car
should of been a separate mode.
+DidYouKnowGaming? ok
+DidYouKnowGaming? Did You Know Gaming? - Katamari Damacy
I like how that was the supposed reason for the car.
Even though it does a bad job of keeping you engaged. Hell, if you didn't pay attention to other players in the old games, you'd lose more often than not. 9 and 10's boards are pretty much entirely linear and have little to no board events to engage you either.
I suppose it does "engage" you if by "engage" they mean, "make other people move for you 3/4 times per game."
"...you could just look up, when it's your turn and go from there."
YES, I MISS THAT!
6:24 This makes no sense. Other players have affected me so much more in previous games than when they were in the car.
True
Its nintendo they make up excuses for dumb decisions
Did anyone think of Mr. Krabs and the Jellyfish with Yoshi and the Boo.
HEY MAAAAN YOU GOTTA TRY THIS SANDWICH
IT'S NO ORDINARY SANDWICH
IT'S A SANDWICH MADE WITH JELLYFISH JELLYYYYYYYYY
+Syntherios skebadeebadabadabadeeda
+ilovenintendo1999 Spongbob! Who's playing Swuidward's records again!?
+ilovenintendo1999 Blasted exercise craze.
Now that I think it about it....
Wario screaming "OH MY GOD" is the best thing I've ever heard and it's even better now knowing that it's a real one.
That quote from Suichiro is so incredibly tone-deaf it's unreal. You know how there's that joke everyone always says about how Mario Party ruins friendships? Well I'll tell you something right now, that joke didn't get started because players *WEREN'T* affecting each other's play in the early Mario Party's. There are so many ways to screw each other in those games it was magical, and that magic is gone from the modern Mario Party games.
His explanation for the car mechanic would actually make sense IF THE BOARDS WERE ACTUALLY WELL DESIGNED.
no it wouldn't. its still a dumb mechanic that no one likes
With the car, now EVERYONE is bored! Nintendo: Striving for equal opportunity.
+paul duncan I would make some snide comment about your pfp, but I have to agree with you on this one. Nintendo killed any sense of joy that was left in the series with the car mechanic
@Andrew Clarke the mini games were good but it has no substance because the boards are bad
@Andrew Clarke No opinion is wrong. At least about video games
I swear, that excuse at the end is bull crap. They knew fans weren't happy about the car and mini star mechanics, yet they brought it back in Mario Party 10 regardless, and included the mini stars in Island Tour... I miss the coin and star mechanics...
It really seems like they're ignoring all of their fans requests for good game mechanics in side games. That's Party, Tennis and Paper Mario that have changed for the worse with no sign of changing back
I like how he also said that the separate players rarely affected other players when the characters were as they are in Mario Party 1-8, when that was completely untrue. There are a lot of times where you get screwed over by the computer or other players thanks to setting off a Board's Main Map Gimmick or hitting a happening space that robs you of your position (and potentially coins).
The thing is though a lot of those things can be easily avoided with good planning and strategic use of items
Everyone does
My favorite Mario party game is DS.
Was that really the reason for MP 9 and 10 having cars? I'm pretty sure the actual reason was that Hudson Soft had kept the patent for the original Mario Party formula and Nintendo could not use it since Hudson went bankrupt or something. Hence why the original MP formula was pretty much only present in the Amiibo Party mode and the loophole they used was that you had to use Amiibos to play it.
+SonicUnleashed64 You might be right, but there are a few problems with that idea. Why were other companies able to emulate the Mario Party formula without legal action, but Nintendo can't?
+DidYouKnowGaming? Because other companies can what nintendon't.
+KingCoconut that's why Nintendo is gonna last forever. "You think our games suck and still buy it anyways"
+DidYouKnowGaming? that's kinda your job. maybe you should spend more than 5 minutes researching wiki articles.
Wait, there's a patent for the Mario Party formula?
Good old times...
I miss this series so much! It's dead since MP 8 :-( (Yeah, MP 8 was also bad but imo better than the MP 9, 10 and Island Tour crap^^)
+Domtendo You mean MPDS
Lol, hi Domtendo :D
***** Me too!!
+Hedge Hawk (Super Hedge Hawk 52550) Me too as well, the History mode was so fun
+TheWuggleJack I agree to that. I spent tons of time trying to get everything in that game (even if my save file got deleted) and it was fun. Still when they return to the original formula of Mario Party, I will hopefully pick it up. The reasoning for the kart just was stupid cause nearly everyone concentrates on the game and if they don't it's a great time for a break... like an actual board game. Kart for people to maybe concentrate < Free moving and people sometimes don't concentrate.
So even back in the old days, Game Informer was an absolutely terrible magazine
gameinfromer is a joke i am all for honest good reviews but they are pretty hyprotical bias when comes to Nintendo
Christopher or Chris/Critter C
That makes sense
Game Informer is IGN 2.0?
Don't forget how low were th score of many other n64 games, still game infermer is really bad
Yes, because when playing a party game, everyone has to pay CONSTANT attention or it would ruin the entire experience.
The certificate thing was fucking savage.
I want that e-card reader game, that'd be fun to see in real life.
Yeah
Hi SapceHampster
+SpaceHamster I have it! It's interesting. Fun, but the eReader was such a weird accessory.
+SpaceHamster
i luv u
They leave out Luigi and Peach but include some third-rate pallet swaps like Daisy and Waluigi?
Hell were they thinking?
Ironically, the car has made everyone lose interest in the games.
I know right.
i did not lose interest. mostly because i am a millenial
animegx45 until super Mario party
Andrew Clarke not particularly
For a minute I thought you were talking about the super dual mode from Mario party 5. That mode overshadows the rest of the game completely.
Fun Fact: In Mario Party, many people think Wario says, "Doh I Missed." Actually, Wario is really saying, "So Ein Mist." This is a German phrase meaning something along the lines of, "Such a Shame." This is because the developers thought to make Mario and Wario seem different, they made Wario German as opposed to Mario being Italian.
If the game's director honestly thinks the car idea enhances the board game sections, and they continue with that mechanic, then I'm truly sad. Dividing up around the board, blocking off paths, racing for the star spaces, and getting to secret spots before someone else were what really made for those fun asshole moments with friends. Oh well, we'll just play Mario Party 2 anyways.
The Gloves and GameInformer incidents are the big reason I love Nintendo.
That and they make games that are worth playing through (Most of the times).
I feel that they're not aware of just how important it is to know the positioning of every other player when they're moving separately. Their actions, and decisions by extension, had a great impact on how every other player would do. When I play against my brother in Mario Party 6, there is no ignoring each other. Shops could provide just the orb that could screw you over next round. You could be close enough to a chain chomp and not only lose a star to one player but anyone else who's behind you. If someone's going for a boo hut and there's a shop nearby that happened to sell a boo-away orb, that would be important to pick up now rather than later. The tile you land on even affects the minigame each round.
It's not just Mario Party 6 though, I'm only using my favorite example. Some of the other ones have these big moments as well and it was always a riot to stick it back to them with the same methods. Moving together just takes all of that away. Now it's just be lucky enough to not be the one to get mini ztars, hope to be the captain for some of the events, and pray that rng is good enough to you after three other people roll the die and decide your fate. There's not even guaranteed minigames, that aren't boss fights, anymore. It feels off to play that way. Not that that's wrong, but it's certainly a different game after that point.
I still want the cart to be an OPTION rather than a NECESSITY.
I'd be ok with keeping bowser party in somehow with the kart cause that's actually fun since you need to all move at once.
That Director who actually defended the vehicle mechanic in MP9 and 10 is a fool.
Everyone only had to pay attention when they were rolling....
Ya.... THATS HOW BOARD GAMES WORK!!
It's like they didn't realize people would be pissed off...
+ThisisGabeB The best part is that he's wrong, you DO need to pay attention to your opponents position, coin count, star count, and items so you can determine the best course of action to avoid getting screwed by (and then proceed to screw) your opponents. Im one of the few people who likes MP 9, but I will admit that that is a pretty dumb reason for the change in game style. I always thought the reason was a change in the development team.
The car mechanics REPLACING the classic game mode destroyed Mario Party.
My favorite part of this one is how hard of a time BrutalMoose has saying anything Japanese
Tobakilacion how does one little comment about brutalmoose mispronouncing Japanese words make this person obsessed with Japanese culture? Even so, there's nothing wrong with that.
Tobakilacion whatever, I don't feel like arguing with you about how someone else wants to live their life anymore. hate who you wish, I don't care.
Tobakilacion I'm glad my channel reflects that I'm a weeaboo because the only videos I've posted are about anime or some shit and that should be a defining aspect of who I am. Flawless logic, especially considering I don't even upload that often and the only other thing you have to go off of me is that I mention someone having trouble pronouncing words in another language. I think the one here with a problem is you.
Tobakilacion Well I guess you can't poke fun at anything without being labeled as something. Even if it were some other language or what have you, I would've said the same thing about that, and you probably wouldn't have even batted an eye. I imagine how you could've come up with "weeaboo" from anything I say relating to Japan, but christ almighty that's a pretty narrow view on things. If you label me as a weeaboo, then fine I'll leave it at that, as long as I don't have to deal with your dumbass again.
It's funny cause Japanese is actually one of the easiest languages for English speakers to pronounce, even if you don't speak it... Whoops.
Did you know? Mario Party tests friendships and breaks then.
Another fun fact: The composer for Mario Party 1 was Yasunori Mitsuda, who was also the composer of games like Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, and Shadow Hearts.
The Mario Party car is crap. When that became a thing, Mario Party went down the crapper.
Totally
Sai Prime it started becoming straight shit as Soon as 8 release
Giod news is that it's been fished out and cleaned up.
i like to think that mario party 1-8 is friendships being broken, and 9-10 are the friendships coming together
Did the man who ruined Mario Party ever think that being able to look away when you weren't playing is what a lot of us enjoyed? I guess not.
"Did you know? That Mario Party 1-8 was designed specifically to piss you off and leave you in a state of wanting to hurt your friends?" That's what I would start with if I was narrating this.
I understand what they said about the carts. But it's still stupid. It should have been an added mode at BEST.
What if I don't wanna be fully engaged the whole time? What if I wanna pass a blunt around until the minigame starts?
Hey hey hey. Smoke weed everyday.
+Moses Grimm Totally agree. The great thing about Mario Party is that you didn't have to be engaged all the time. It's like when a group of people go bowling. Only one person is bowling at the time… the others are chatting, eating wings, smoking weed, drinking, going to the bathroom, hanging out, etc. It provided a relaxed, enjoyable time. And when you had a mini-game come up, anyone who was out of their chair had to run back to be a part of it. But now… it's just boring.
Mario Party 2 is certainly my favorite of all time.
+Anthony Morado Mine as well but I have a soft spot for 3 with the pizza eating mini game lol
Mario party 2.5/10 "not cod..." -ign
ha
+FerretArcade 7.8/10 "too much RNG" - IGN
Mario Party 2: 2.5/10 "Too many costumes"
Game Informer not IGN. IGN actually scored it well.
+FerretArcade CoD didn't even exist yet
Mario party, more like it is a shame that the newer entries to the franchise have been Mario Sharty amirite!
+SnoopingTurtle No.
ImSry.
Whack
+Mr. Pokirby yup, no matter how bad you try to defend it its shit
The Mario party games were all great up until 9,10... Those were the real fuck shits of the series
That is a terrible excuse for the car.
+ZarosianCabbage "Uh, everyone should be at the same place." - Guy in the video whose name I won't look up because I'm lazy and tired
+ZarosianCabbage Why?
Cause you can still fuck over your opponents from half-way across the board, because you didn't notice they planted the pink boo right after the star, and you thought it was something stupid. So you decide to land on it because it became 'safe' at the least. Just to lose the star you JUST bought.
(MP7)
I kind of like it because you can try to set people to traps in the car, but that'll just end more friendships
*****
Yeah. It had a good board game feel to it. Now it feels like Candy Land on steriods
So much of my childhood playing Mario Party 2 with friends, lots of fun and rage inducing at times
Did you Know?:
This game is why I can hit the buttons over a dozen times a second.
+Hunter P Brown Turbo mode? Who needs that shit?
COMMENCE THE SUPER SPAM!!!
Codie Cola exactly. lol
So glad Super Mario Party ditched the car. The reasoning in the end was also backwards since way pay attention to the screen before or after your turn when you'll be forced to a different position.
I must go back and play all these again now! Mario Party 3 legit stole my life as a kid
6:13 The question could have legitimately been "why did you decide to make a video game based on a board game NOT a video game based on a board game?"
Did you know?
8 is the last semi-decent game in the Mario Party franchise.
Nah
+FloSo Antonibro Really, 6 was the last good one.
+noisyturtle Mate 7 was amazing and 8 was enjoyable enough but I think we can all agree that 9, 10 and Island Tour (and probably the DS one too) are horrible...
+Putt Putt Gets Shrekt The DS version is the only way to play a normal game of Mario Party on the go, so it has to be good.
Really, It is... Who wants to play Mario Party Advance or Mario Party Island Tour
Aw that last statement could not have been more false...
RIP Mario Party 1998 - 2012
6:23 that's the reason why Mario party is now terrible
awful idea
Yes and that sux becaues you cannot make own decisions anymore. Players could affect each other very well using items. Like swapping positions, stealing coins, setting up traps, using Big Boo to steal stuff and more... Only Mario Party 1-8 are awesome...
I don't mind the car mechanic in 9 but in 10 the Mario party mode is way too short I remember playing Mushroom park and finished the board in 15-25 minutes and only played two minigames(not including boss games)
Yeah I got mario party 10 and was sadly disappointed. I ended up getting mario party 8 again for my gamecube to play it because imho, it's the best on.
BKC 1992 8 was for the Wii
I kept waiting for Toad screaming "YAOOOO" at the beginning of the video
Your channel always has the highest quality video rips of old games! Love it!
They need to make the gameplay of the next game like 1-8 again.
+FanNintendo98 1 - 4 please. No more capsules, no more candies, no more carts. Just the mushrooms, magic lamps, keys, the boards, and the mini games.
Or just make a Mario Party collection. I'd be more than willing to pay $60 for just 1-4 all on one disc for one system.
I'd love a release of one-three for the switch
@Mr. Plagiarist I actually got good at chance time. I mean, timing the boxes to hit what I want. It's scary when someone else gets it though.
"I hurt my hand whilst excessively playing a video game that I voluntarily partook in. The producer of the game should give me something or pay me money." - Twats
That last fact is a bunch of bull!
Daijon Banks look, Its not even my turn and I'm looking at the screeeen!
genius, Nintendo.
Me and my friends used to play Mario party 1-3 as kids, those games were hazardous, always ended up in fights, rages and a hole burning in the palm of your hand every weekend.
5:13
dry bones: I ain't gotta do shit.
2:59 This is amazing!
Oh 6:20 They do matter... Check out TheRunAwayGuys, they have to look at each others screen to form tactics and if they are in trouble. They need to keep looking at the screen to be able to know what is going on. AND IT WAS FUN MOVING SERPARATELY! Since it gives people freedom, it was fun. PLUS MARIO PARTY 9 & 10 SUCKS! DUE TO MOVING TOGETHER AND NO CONSTANT MINIGAME!
Worst Mario Parties: 9 and Onward
Two of the three mini games that were unused in MP8 were simply replaced. The hammer game was changed to Crops N' Robbers and the rolling up a ribbon game became Crank To Rank
I think the revolver censorship thing is one of the only instances where it came out better for it. I remember finding the pop gun bolt bouncing off Bowser and falling to the ground after such a serious moment hilarious as a kid.
"In past installments [...] the actions of others often didn't affect you"
Bullshit. Tell that to anyone that had their shit stolen by Boo, or was about to obtain a star that was right in front of them only for some fucktard to either land on a happening space that moved everyone back a few space, or land on chance time and ruin everything.
That shit was a total game changer, and it happened more often than' you'd think.
I remember recently booting up Mario Party 2... God damn yoshi landing on a happening space in Horror Land causing the Thwomp that was blocking the star to become immobile when I was 3 spaces away from it and moved after yoshi... yeah no other players totally don't directly affect your shit
I want to see competitive Mario Party become a thing.
Think it might already be a thing
+DJ Howard I want it to be extremely competitive, like any game at evo multiplied by 10.
I would pay to see all the Mario Parties (except for 9, 10, and Island Tour, they' re to casual) being played a high stakes.
How could you sue for using a controller in a way that wasn't even intended? That's like slamming your head into the A button to button mash and then suing for a concussion. WTF?
So true! Or just put on a glove. Now I electrocuted myself by opening up my Wii U when it was on and messing with the motors and electrical stuff so I'm going to sue Nintendo. 😠
Considering a few of the minigames seem *nearly freaking impossible* if you spin the control stick as intended, I'm shocked nobody thought of that trick during development.
Not to mention nobody cares because they got rid of those stupid minigames from then on anyway.
@@UltimaKeyMaster I didn't even see it as a "trick". Everybody I know uses the palm of their hand. If you try using your thumb, you will lose. Since that's the way that works best, it might as well have been the intended way. I can't imagine trying to play most of these minigames using my thumb, like you said, it's almost impossible. The fact that they removed those games in all future installments shows that it was just an oversight in development (bad game design), not just people being idiots for finding a way to make the game playable.
Did you know Mario party is the reason I have no friends?
I couldn't stop myself.
Man, that joystick-twirling gave normal people blisters. Imagine how bad my hands were as a kid with epidermolysis bullosa.
Their reasoning for the car is really, really, really, really stupid. One of the things I liked about Mario Party's old entries was that you could just chill with your friends while it wasn't your turn rather than focus on the screen the entire time.
Really? People filed claims from blistered hands? I was 5 years old and was mature enough to realize that was my fault and not the controllers.
+Syntherus
People file claims for much more ridiculous things.
Did you know Mario Party used to not suck?
It never did.
I will never get enough of Wario shouting "D'OH MY GAWD".
Mario Party from the start always had other players influence other players' happenings, be it Spaces, Items, Events or just buying the Star as it then changes location, but also allows a bit of control unlike what it was in 9 and 10 where there are limited things you can do to mitigate bad outcomes.
The cart ruined Mario Party
+TS Prism Agreed. And yet they still think it's a good idea.
They added the car because they wanted to keep the players constantly involved in what was going on? Have we been playing the same franchise?? I was fairly sure that what other players did during their turns, as early as the first game, was pretty dang important to the decisions of everyone (Knowing player X has this item or is x amount of spaces away from the star, whether or not they've reached the most happening spaces, etc). I mean, I haven't played 9 or 10 myself, just seen videos of 'em, but I can't say the car mechanic seems like a good new standard. A one-off thing, sure, but otherwise...
+Darko Hexar Yah, shoulda have made a new franchise for that matter
+Darko Hexar Sorry his justification for the car mechanic was BS having seen and played the new mario party it seems more like laziness on the part of the developer as moving everyone together is easier than keeping track of 4 different characters IMO. Its easier for them to turn over 1 mario party a year now i bet.
+vampuricknight1 Yeah, figures it'd be easier to develop a bunch of super linear boards where all the players follow one road. I'm sure the players who enjoy the format will be happy to get more new games more often, but I've always preferred quality over quantity, so it'd be nice to see a more refined title next, for sure.
I can still see the outline I have from the blister on my left palm. And that was 16 years ago! Mario Party was intense. I was glad that they dropped this control method!
The car was a mistake.
the car IS a mistake
gamerman mario
It's past tense for me because I never played any Mario Party game since Mario Party 9
I never understood why most people disliked the cart gameplay. To me, that mechanic feels much better than the old one. It's more streamlined and it's less random.
......Mario Party 9 and 10 killed the series
Any series that has 9 entries is already dead
And Super saved the series
Funny you guys post this. I just picked up Mario party 1 yesterday for my 64.
"The actions of other players often didn't affect you."
What
WHAT?!
Did they even HEAR all the friendship ruining stories?!
+MonkeySharkPro They did in 8, not sure what happened for the other games.
mario party 2 is still the best mario party game today
+astro sloth nah 5 is the best
+tubabluba789 Nope it is 6
Agree
It was much more fun, personally, for me and my brothers/friends to move independently rather than together in a cart.
To each their own
everyone thinks its more fun to move independently
Cars? CARS?
*CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARSSSSSSSSS!*
I remember getting blisters on my thumbs while playing Street Fighter 4 just to perform super moves. Never will I revisit.
The nostalgia is strong with this video.
I wouldn't mind riding the car together really, IF IT WAS A FUCKING OPTION.
Mario Party 1 = Good (bogged down by control-stick spinning
Mario Party 2 = Amazing
Mario Party 3 = Amazing
Mario Party 4 = Great
Mario Party 5 = Meh
Mario Party 6 = Meh-ish
Mario Party 7 = Surprisingly Great
Mario Party 8 = Ugh
Mario Party 9 = OH GOD WHY
Mario Party 10 = Proof Nintendo doesn't learn from their mistakes
I actually like 8
How about Mario Party DS? I personally loved it, my sister and I played that game all day as kids. Good memories
+Citpost Shentral Meh-ish? does that mean like barely meh?
+Nessie The Lochness Monster 8 is still decent, but the motion controls shoved into every single minigame kinda ruined it
+Citpost Shentral I'd say 4 was "Ok", with 5 and 6 being really good, 7 being not bad, 8 being so-so with mostly bad minigames and then 9 and 10 are just awful because of the car system.
The cart has single-handedly ruined the Mario Party franchise, it's terrible.
It's not just the cart, it's also the uninspired mini games imo.
+Nova Johansson well. to be fair. the Wii-Installments werent that good either
Nova Johansson Getting items in random capsules and orbs instead of being able to purchase them from item shops did. I loved the machine duels in 5, but otherwise 4 is where I draw the line. After that it's all too much luck and silly gimmicks.
The reasoning behind the kart in MP 9 & 10 is really strange. Even in the old Mario parties, everyone was affected in each players turn through happening spaces, who stepped on a bowser spot, battle minigames where you bet your coins, and hell even encountering Boo affected other players. You can't say that players weren't involved until it was their turn in the previous games cause each installment had something new to screw each player over. The Kart mechanic seems like a way to have players work together instead of competing
ikr, the kart idea should've just been a separate game mode.
2:02 This guy has a bioshock tattoo! ALL HAIL ANDREW RYAN
Did you know
Mario Party ends friendships
I don't care what they say, the car sucks
5:11 Is Dry Bones okay?
I don't think Dry Bones works
AHHHHHH that jingle at the beginning! Hello nostalgia my old friend!
The mans logic at the end for Mario Party 10 makes complete sense. I actually really enjoyed it! :)
+Pelvic Gaming Not exactly. In the previous games, (8 back), you could set up traps on the board or attach a buff to oneself that would attack an opponent. You could still interact with your opponents.
Also, having to watch the board 24/7 without having the ability to take a pee break or a snack grab can ruin the vibe of the game and people's strategic mindset.
Mario Party 9 and 10 are most people's least favorites due to the "everyone plays together" mechanic. Mario Party 8 was almost perfect and they didn't need to add a new mechanic.
I liked it
+Sour Meat You're the one person who did I guess.
+Sour Meat You're special alright...
they killed mario party the whole mini star bullshit and the cart killed it. mario party 6 and 7 are the best ones
noice nostalgia :))))
+Holyflygon I love Mario Party 7. Great game. I always wanted 6. I do have 5 though.
Never played those, but 5 was the best for me. The minigames were fun and the extra modes (like the tank one or the board game one) were amazing. Then again, I haven't played the game in a few years.
MysticRainbowDragon 6 has hands down the best maps
+Holyflygon Just looked them up and I can't disagree with you there. The maps in 5 were decent but not the best in the series. 6 definitely has great maps, especially with the day/night mechanic.
So he explained the reasoning behind the carts in MP9/10, but they didn't explain why they straight up removed the original game mode entirely. I'd be fine if the carts were just a separate mode to serve as a neat little distraction every now and then, but making it the main game? That was just a poor design decision, no matter how you look at it...
+Jordan3D Not to mention, when you are playing with someone else, they will try their hardest to win and avoid any kind of benefits being directed at you, so they will try to turn your game into something very frustrating, this happens way too often on MP9 and 10. It was suposed to be a board game but in a video game. I don't quite remember any board game where all the players control the same piece through the board.
The Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda board games ironically had that mechanic.
