I think that Mario Lost Levels part at 2:57 is undoubtedly intentional.
knowing how bullshit the japanese mario 2 is? definitely intentional lmao
Maybe
It has to be. The mushroom is there, meaning they were fully aware of the softlock, and chose to put a source of damage in the area anyway.
That seems like mario maker dickery more than anything.
I 100% agree, this is the same game that allows you to jump over a flagpole and keep running right, making you think there is a secret beyond, only for you to realise that there was nothing there and you can't go back left.
Luigi with the flipped L proofs that Mr. L was in disguise during the events of The Thousand Year Door.

Yer... ok
For all we know, that glitch probably inspired it.
@Sidney J. Duffy IT was Super Paper Mario. TTYD Luigi isn't playable, only making cameo appearances

It took them 3 years to localize a 2015 book, and even then, they plagiarized from Super Mario Wiki, mistaking fan-made names as official.
You can't be serious. That would be funny, if it wasn't so sad.
@@Outside998 A similar thing was done with a Sonic book recently.
@@fixedfunshow Pretty sad, as I actually enjoyed that series.
So this happens a lot
Yeah I was planning on buying that book, but I decided not to once I found out. It's so stupid.
0:25 - It's not even just the ice
I think so long as a level is flagged as snow or desert, the stuck animation will occur regardless of surface
There've been quite a number of Mario 64 hacks I've played where a snow/desert surface that I probably should take fall damage from just gets me stuck
I'm pretty sure that's not the case - I've definitely taken fall damage in desert/snow levels before. I'm pretty sure it is in fact a mistake specifically with the types of surfaces.
It's probably worth mentioning that, in SM64, the visual ground you see and the actual ground Mario walks on are completely separate. They match exactly 99.9% of the time, but they certainly don't have to.
*Oh look!*

It's possible to semi-crash the game in Super Mario RPG. In Marrymore, if you defeat one of the Chef's in the Cake boss battle (either with Ultra Jump or Ultra Flame), the game will glitch as a result.
How so?
Iirc, targeting the boss while the additional hits do collateral damage to the chefs. They are not supposed to be defeated, but if you do it will interrupt their scripted dialogue, and the game will not be able to continue.
@@deeznutsandbolts9676 didn't know they can be defeated lol ...im about to play it

*Didn't You Know?* Mario was based off of series creator Scott Cawthon himself. Cawthon intentionally gave Mario a “winning smile” similar to his own, and made him into a successful icon in the videogame community. The goombas in Super Mario Brothers were also of a unique origin. The idea to have a mushroom shaped enemy was actually due to Scott Cawthon’s horrible allergy to mushrooms. He explained in a 1985 Nintendo Direct that he “had been forcibly fed mushrooms by [his] little brother all the time, which led [him] to having horrible nightmares all throughout [his] childhood.” When later asked about why his little brother did such a horrible thing, Cawthon simply sighed, replying “He was tired of being Player number two.”

In the instruction manual for Mario Superstar Baseball, it says Bowser has good chemistry with Baby Mario and bad chemistry with Paratroopa, when it's actually the other way around. There were a couple other similar errors with chemistry in the instruction manual, but that was the most glaring one.

Quick thing about the overalls thing. It's not the button disappearing, but it's the lower half of Mario's model covering it up. You see, his model was made into different sections because proper rigging was difficult for its time, so he was made in chunks. The button texture gets covered by the waist because it's a separate part of his model.
This counts as a glitch but I was watching this TV show where they go against each other in videogames, but that happened is that they were playing super Mario bros and they were on the first cave level, somehow one of them destroyed the blocks at the top and literally ran across the ceiling... They won.
"Either 3 of 4 fingers in each of his hands." proceeds to show a picture of a koopa with 4 and 5 fingers.
Thumbs are not fingers
@@pieman19 I can now honestly say that I've genuinely learned something from a UA-cam comment.
In Super Mario All-Stars - Super Mario Bros 3, the sprites for Mario and Luigi have their balled hands as the same color scheme as their skin. This was fixed in the GBA remake, Super Mario Advance 4 to accommodate that they are wearing white gloves.
The reason mario overall buttons disappear because it’s clipping through his body
If you get burned in Mario 64, the smoke is glitched and is a visual bug cause the actual smoke particle is hidden beneath an incorrect line of code. Luckily someone made a rom hack where it’s fixed.
Did you Know? In Super Mario World, there is a glitch where in Yoshi's House, if you release a Fire Flower from your item box (as big Mario) and pick it up while grabbing an Apple with Yoshi's mouth (no tongue) at the same time, you will soft lock the game, as Mario will do the Fire Flower transformation animation indefinitely. You can't even pause the game to exit out of the stage.
At the very least however, you get to see Mario changing indefinitely through all of his palette colors.
my snes pal version of super mario allstars had some sort of feature where you had to press a specific button while starting a new game in mario3. when you did it right you had the select button to cycle trough all marios costumes while playing. basically everytime you got hit you push select and you get new costumes. i didnt know why this was a thing but i never played the game without this feature turned on because i found it so funny. i later learned that it is some sort of dev testing mode but never understood why it was accessable by a single button trick and was not cut out from the retail version.
Knowing the Super Mario 64 community, there’s probably a speedrun strat where you take advantage of Mario’s disappearing button to clip through a wall or something.
Interesting thing about that last buzzy beetle mistake, in that same level, you can clip yourself into the ground for whatever reason. I've been able to replicate it a few times, and it's even shown up when the Game Grumps played SMW
Sm64: Mario can get stuck in ice like he can snow. When Mario performs his "trip kick" move, one of the buttons on his overalls disappears. Yoshi says *Mario, it that really you?" When he should say "Mario, IS that really you?"
Smb3: if the player makes a hammer bro walk over an N-Spade square, they will combine and softlock the game
Smb2: Luigi can jump high enough to get on the ceiling and above King wart. If you manage to defeat King wart off-screen, the door will open but Luigi can't go through sense he is on the ceiling
Smb special: if you go above world 4-2, you can find a warp pipe. Going in leads to an empty room with a brick wall. You can go back into the pipe but doing so will get you stuck until the timer runs out
Smbll: in world 3-1 after leaving the bonus area there are bricks that need to be broken with super Mario in order to get out. There is a hidden block with a mushroom. After getting it you have to be careful not to get hit by the piranha plant, or you will be stuck until the timer runs out.
Smb2 again: birdo and ostro's name are switched in the instruction booklet and the credits. This was present in smb all stars but not in smb advance
A similar error was "clawgrip" being misspelled as "clawglip". This is present in smb all stars and the Japanese version of smb advance. The instruction booklet says that in sub spaces, you can obtain hearts to increase your life meter. Which is only present in doki doki panic. Phanto's 8-bit style in the instruction booklet is the same as the one in doki doki panic
Sml: the American manual calls "goomba" "chibibo". Also Daisy is called "Daisy princess"
Donkey Kong (gb) (Wii u virtual console): the E-shop description says the game was released in 1981
SMRPG: when Mallow is defeated in the 2nd croco fight, croco will steal items only from Mallow, and Mallow will stand up, but still unable to fight
Smw: if you die above a wiggler, as Mario falls to the bottom, Mario will still make contact with the wiggler.
I just replayed TTYD on Dolphin and used savestates for most of the dialogue trees to see all of the different outcomes, and I remember that Grodus situation very puzzling. Pretty sure it was a mixup as well.
1:30 - One time I was playing the All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 2, and I defeated Wart off-screen with a turnip.
Because the scroll is disabled, I was unable to go to the door. The door was split on the corner of the screen, and I couldn't get my character in there to press Up.
Probably also happens in the original version.
8:09 Another lore mistake spread by books was the Prima guide for Mario Kart Wii labeling Peach and Daisy as cousins. No other official source has ever made that claim, not even later Prima guides, but for some reason a LOT of fan pages seem to have considered it canon
No mistakes in Sunshine? Makes sense, it being the best mario game
One mistake that was in Super Mario Advance 2 was when after you completed the game and the enemies and colors all changed. During the enemy roll call, the names were not changed (i.e. the Pidget Bill was still Bullet Bill). In the Super Nintendo version, the names did change when you completed the special world.
5:25 while the Arcade game was released in July, the Game Boy remake itself was actually released in June, which I imagine is where that came from.
She shell kick glitch can also be done quite easily with yoshi on any vertical wall. He can spit any item in a wall if you’re right against it.
The walls themselves aren’t even consistent with how they react, sometimes the item just falls down a pit so you lose it, other times it stays stuck in that one spot where yoshi spit it(in the case of shells they still have a hitbox and geg to close and you’ll get hit.) other times they’ll start bouncing back and forth like a shell hitting a wall.
It’s a pretty funny glitch just to see what happens to the item, though be warned, you do it with a key or p block chances are you might not get it back, so you’ll have to restart the level if you want/need it.

Crazy taxi?
Phantasy Star!
Oh wow! I did the last glitch when I was like, 4 years old. I don't know why that memory sticks out so much but it was neat to see it here.
6:17 I think it's also worth mentioning that several enemies are colored incorrectly, for example, the Galoombas have yellow feet in-game even though they're supposed to have green feet as you can see in official art, and the Chargin' Chucks are green instead of blue like in the official art. This isn't a palette limitation because there are palettes in-game that give them their correct colors that are loaded in every level that those enemies appear in. Interestingly, Galoombas and Chargin' Chucks actually have their correct colors in the credits, so I'm confused why they don't during gameplay.
8:18 no joke. When Daz mentions the mistakes in the encyclopaedia, I went to get mine and followed along to find these mistakes in my copy. And they’re present here.
The flipped L is an interesting mistake, not for the mistake itself but for the peek behind the curtain it gives us. Because that's a really clever trick for making sure the sprite shows up correctly; having the L be a separate sprite. All I can imagine is that at some point they changed the timing of that cinematic, but forgot to change the keyframes for the L to match the changes to Luigi. Happens to the best of us! 😅
2:43 that’s why Nintendo didn’t localize The Lost Levels in 1986
They didn't relieased until the Wii Virtual Console release.
@@IvanFranco120 actually they released in Super Mario All-Stars but it's a repolished version
The Hammer Bro/N Space lock can happen on World 4 also. I remember that one happening to me as a kid.
"In Super Mario World the koopalings Iggy and Lemmy share the same hairstyle." That's Larry bro. A mistake in a mistakes video?
Super Mario World has a hidden keyhole in Top Secret Area. If you stand under one of the blocks to the left while riding Yoshi and press Y while holding up, Yoshi's tongue will make a *doonk-doonk* sound that is normally only heard when he licks a keyhole.
Fitting music tune as the title appears to go with the video's topic
The Koopas in the Super Mario Special are pure nightmare fuel.
9:10 you call that a mistake, I call it realism
"IT THAT REALLY YOU" I think is supposed to be how yoshi talks, kind if like in the tv show "super mario world" he kind of sounds stupid.
The TV show has no relevance to the games. Yoshi is never portrayed as dumb in any of the games.
Well there was mario world, then the tv show, then super mario 64. So they probably tried doing the same personality for super mario 64. Also, this was the first time yoshi "talked" in a mario game.
of*
I remember the glitch at 9:38 happened to the Game Grumps. I think it was Dan that was playing but he glitched through that same part
The biggest Mario mistake is when Nintendo released a Waluigi toenail clipping game.
There could be a huge video series about translation mistakes in various video game manuals. :D For example in the Northern Europe the video game manuals were often hilarious collection of translation errors.
This is more of a "Luigi" mistake but while I was looking at references for an illustration I was doing of Luigi's Mansion 2's Haunted Towers, I've noticed that the left tower is depicted with an inconsistent ammount of floors.
The tower seems to have one floor more in EGadds lab level selection screen than it actually has when playing through it
Super Mario World also has an oversight with Wigglers being eaten by Yoshi, they can still damage Mario while still being eaten, without Yoshi booting Mario off his back.
The biggest mistake for mario is that there's no hotel mario 2
I remember that in Super Paper Mario there was an stage that, if you changed the perspective to 3D at the end of one of the underground parts of the stage, ther was a secret path that went to a room behind the wall of the level with a buzzy bettle, just like here 9:16
The original Super Mario Bros 2 , was released on the Game Boy Colour before the Wii. It was a unlockable feature in Super Mario Bros Deluxe.
(1:48) You don't even have to jump above the ceiling to get trapped this way. If you accurately toss the vegetable towards Wart's mouth from a distance, and then quickly scroll to the left so that it deals the finishing blow while he's just off-screen, then you may find that you can't enter the door when it appears because it's off-screen as well.
(6:18) You mean Iggy and _Larry,_ not Lemmy.
(9:09) Well, the "100" point sprite will appear, yes. However, it won't actually be added to the player's score because all of the action is frozen during Mario's death animation, and for some reason, in SMW, the point values for such numbers aren't added to the player's score until after a couple more frames of action have passed. (Same goes for the symbols that appear for extra lives.)
great episode
Regarding The Lost Levels:
If you’re not limiting it to standalone releases, it technically came out stateside in ‘99 as an unlockable on the gameboy color game, Super Mario Bros Deluxe (an enhanced port of Super Mario Bros).
Also there’s a weird glitch in SMW where the player character can die while still riding on Yoshi, complete with him joining in on the Death Animation.
If you have a cape and spinjump inbetween the spinning blocks you can glitch through it super fast and die to either going out of vision or getting crushed
Or you can go out of bounds, getting stuck in a wall
@@CarmsCelestia Technically, a glitch, but more of an unintended bug as how it works is that the game limits how many of the yellow turn blocks can spin at a time. With the cape, if you get several to spin and occupy the space where the game forcefully stops the blocks from turning, Mario gets shoved by collision.
The same thing that happens in the buzzy beetle glitch can be done with Mario him self. If I remember correctly it had something to do with you holding an item and using the slide animation.
I still remember a bug i had on the nes version of SMB3, when i was kid. The world 5 is split on 2 maps, the earth side and the cloud side and i remember dying in one of the levels on the cloud side and it made me go back behind (i don't really remember how it works when we die in that game). So it made me back on the earth side, with every levels already done and i was unable to progress further. It softlocked the game for me, i was unable to reach back the cloud part and i had to put off the console.
The button thing is just clipping due to the animation and how mario is made of segments, the 'softlock' in lost levels isn't exactly a softlock because you can just die and resume.
His button does not disappear marios body is made out of multiple meshes when he uses that animation his upper half is slightly overlapped by his bottom half
It's crazy to see how many things slipped in a Mario game because Nintendo gives his games an INSANE amount of polish.
I get so nostalgic anytime Legend of the Seven Stars is brought up. I never was into the "paper" or the Mario/Luigi series. I'd love to see a Mario RPG game again with more dimension. If Nintendo can team with Namco and make a "Tales of" style game, that would be amazing.
I'm down. Or a remake
@@Mr.G_717 Ah a remake of "Seven Stars". It would depend if Capcom is up for it.
