Thanks for the info. I’ve been toying with the ideas of taking a mini with us on our next trip to Cozumel and like you I prefer to fly as incognito as possible and stay away from folks. I’m mainly wanting to get some coastline surf shots. Appreciate the video

Good info, because i’m going to Cancun. Does that tax apply to high end cameras too?

I am not aware of any taxes on cameras.

The cameras they don’t really care much about, but the drones yeah can be a bit risky because of the same thing of ‘invasion of privacy’ thing

bro, just because you got lucky doesn't mean there's no tax to pay... 19% is what they are charging based on official website cost... charged me $200 USD for Mini pro 4 and there;s nothing you can do about it

@@vitalysokalsky3092 the tax is clearly discussed in the video although the rate seems to vary.

My son in law just went to a wedding last month 6/14/2025 and the Cancun customs charged them $350 US! Or else they will confiscate his old Air2s, they cannot even use their phone inside the customs office to call me! They are all scammers there and they all pretended they don’t speak any english at all and cannot understand english🤦🏻‍♂️they paid via credit card and i told my daughter to call the bank and tell them they have been scammed and file a dispute.

@@camilo8cheryl That sounds like the dreaded Mexico drone tax. I would definitely dispute it - can’t hurt to try. For two drones, the amount sounds about right for what they have been charging.

I was just in Cancun Mexico 🇲🇽. We were pulled in for secondary inspection. They hit me up for 19% VAT tax based on the original cost. They threatened arrest and confiscation if I did not pay the tax. I had a DJI Mini 4 Pro under 250 grams. I tried to pull up my receipt for the drone, but I was yelled at for using my phone. They actually ran off with my drone without even telling me. I’m fighting the charge with my credit card company. Citibank agrees with me that this charge is extortion and seems like a scam. My passport will never see another Mexican boarder stamp! They obviously don’t value their tourists.

I received notification yesterday that a credit was being applied to my account permanently. I don’t know whether Citibank was able to win their battle with the Mexican customs department or not. However, she did mention that it was in the interest of keeping our goodtenured business.
