The tragic irony with Girl Thing is that a number eight chart debut is actually a really solid basis from which a girl band can build a career - The Saturdays' debut single went in at number eight, Sugababes' peaked at number six, and Atomic Kitten's first single only made number ten. The mistake was that their promotional campaign was just too much too soon, and while that might have worked in, say, America or some Asian nations, we cynical Brits just saw it all and went: "wouldnt it be hilarious if this group flopped lol"
Atomic Kitten was about to be dropped by their record label before 'Whole Again' saved them. A number 8, in the UK alone at that, isn't enough for Simon Cowell.
It's a shame, because their album was a pretty good pop album. Strangely enough, this debut single was weak compared to a lot of the tracks on it. That may have been part of the problem.
Found this song yesterday after more than a double decade of searching...it was hard to find when the only line you know is 'we're the last one standing'😂 (9th dec'23)
I was searching for this as well. it turns out that you need to use VPN to change your location in order to find this music video. good thing its now available in my location.
I was there when they were first around. I loved them and bought their second single 'Girls on Top'... however big they weren't. Just like similar disposable girl groups of the era that I also remember - Supersister, Femail, Buffalo G, Vanilla.....
I can’t BELIEVE it’s been more than 20 yrs since this wow , only I was 18 going onto 19 when this song was out lol now I’m 43 !!!! And seeing this lol , and these girls were sexy !!!!!
Wow, I finally found this video. Young me had a crush on the red haired girl (I found them far hotter than the spice girls) and I think she influenced my taste in women. I love how they just DESTROY. If I was the groom, I'd be thanking these girls and ditch that boring bride. They seem far more exciting.
Not even sure how I ended here! The songs a bop though not herd it for years that little dance break is low key a serve! The red haired girl and the one in the middles execution was on point!
This single is very cute and very active, it's a bit similar to Spice Girl! In fact it went well! ❤️ pity that today the girl bands are almost completely gone ... it would be great that the girl bands are back on stage again! it is above all to give life to this beautiful song with a beautiful remake
Simon only formed Girl Thing as he was raging he said no to the Spice Girls and wanted to out do them! Sucks to be him 🤣 On another note. This was an absolute belter when it was released. I was about 10/11 years old. Absolute goals 🤣
Simon Cowell knocked back the spice girls and obviously was pissed about the fact they ended up a major success, so decided to make girl thing. I think for the girls In this band, who were talented, it did them a disservice trying to emulate the spice girls instead of singing songs that that fit them better I still loved this song at the time.
It's very obvious they were trying to match Spice girls...but we already had SG so this wasn't going to work..Plus spice girls were more diverse in terms of ethnicity, us black girls loved mel b!!
After just seeing Linzi on the X Factor, I had to listen to this again. Can't believe it's been 14 years. It came out when I was 9. Loved it then and still love it now at 23! :)
I used to kill this single on my pc because it had the film clip on it (life was so good when u could get cds with pc compatibility and with the video on it) and played it alll the time
I like the way they mindlessly destroy somebody's wedding and we're expected to get on board with that. #8 was a FAIR position considering they should really have ended up in jail.
That's what Simon Cowell gets for failing to take on board the one thing that made the Spice Girls work and which made sure this didn't: that they were about having fun, and being a bit cheeky and loud, but not at somebody else's expense. This deserved lower than #8 if you ask me!
Love that Simon Cowell refused to manage the spice girls, then managed Girl Thing in an attempt to remake the Spice Girls fame. I like Girl thing and they should have done better in the industry but they weren't as good at the spice girls. :-)
i keep humming the part “It's the end of an era The start of a new day” and forgot the song title, and finally in aug 2024 i remember after all night googling and humming 😂
I remember watching this on MTV several times and loving it. But the whole "To Be Continued" thing never happened. I was kind of disappointed. Did they ever make another video where it "continued"? :(
They had a second single called girls on top, and they were meant to release pure and simple which they co wrote but when they got dropped pure and simple was given to hear say and their names were taken off the credit
It took me 10 years or something to find this song again. I couldn't remember anything apart from a girl saying "to be continued" at the end of the video. I've finally found it! I remember that they quickly disappeared after just two songs. Watching this video now I realize that they tried to emulate the Spice Girls quite a lot. Jodi did a backflip like Mel C (not as good though), Nikki had the pigtails like Emma (I think Nikki is the best dancer of the group anyway), Michelle had flamboyant Ginger hair, Linzi was kinda Posh. Was Anika supposed to be Mel B?
This is hilarious looking back. I think they was some kinda cross over. I’d say the dark haired one emulated Mel b, the pink ginger. Jodie as baby but sporty with the flips, the pig tailed one as posh but giving Emma vibes, and the other one as sporty.
Please make this video available in Australia!! Had to come all the way to Germany to watch this clip :( this song went Gold in Australia - and no where else! :)
Andrew Myers The song was written by Elliot Kennedy, the same man who wrote "Say You'll Be There" & other songs with the Spice Girls. Girl Thing is such a shameless Spice Girls rip-off, they even used the same song writers
blame Simon Cowell and his sour grapes for not signing the spice girls he doomed these girls to a shitty career because he was trying to make them the spice girls
Most comments seem to be from British folks which is interesting cuz I grew up in the states and I remember this song clearly from my childhood I want to say from radio Disney. I burnt it into a cd back in the day and recently found the cd and this was like the 4th song on there lol it brought back some nostalgic feelings 💜

This is one of my favourite songs from the Noughties. It's so incredibly feel-good.
Girl Thing Last One Standing. (2000) Still A great music.
Spice Girls: “Copy my homework but change it a bit so it’s not too obvious”.
Girl Thing:
😂
Huh?
?????????????????😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Sooo excited for their reunion! So happpy for my cousin Linzi!
The red head one is Michelle Hughes my dance teacher !
Michelle was in my house Wednesday, she's with my dads best mate🤣🤣
Seeing her this Thursday for tap dancing 😂😂
Still a bop.
i swear this will foever be the most Fun song for 90's girls....still listen to this
The actual production of the song (if you know anything about mixing music) is absolutely TOP notch.. its actually a perfect, flawless, studio track.
That's Simon cowell for ya

Potentially there was a good song here except none of them had star quality.
Last One Standing by Girl Thing
Is Used From the Theme Song of Ronda Rousey and Shayna Bazsler Vs isla Dawn And Alba Fyre

Non. Sono. Le. Spice girls. Sono le. Girlthing

lmao why is everyone getting so upset? it's a cute music video!! enjoy it and calm down
Best song 💘
the girl wearing pink hat is beautiful 😊😍
loved this when it came out just dont think the world was ready for a girl group rapping
I remember this. Watching them now, they were trying to be the spice girls. This video is very similar to 'wannabe'.
They both crash a party, but the spice girls celebrate with other guests and are welcomed. These girls just destroy! Haha
Simon Cowell knocked back the spice girls and obviously was pissed about the fact they ended up a major success, so decided to make girl thing. Jody - baby spice
Anika - posh spice
Lynse - scary spice
Michelle - ginger spice

Definitely not! Linzi is not feminine enough in comparison with Mel B and Annika is too freaky to be Victoria.

A timeless classic from a lost, unappreciated era. :)
So many good bands just dropped by the record labels so much more they could of achieved!
The worst were S-Curve and Disney - went through good young acts like people change their undershorts.
