*I need to try this! I spent so many years being ashamed of my curls (a hair stylist once told me they looked like pubes) and straightening them out/blowouts - but now I'm trying to re-embrace them! Thanks for these tips, and I hope I can get some curly integrity back. Appreciate you!!*
Cassandra Bankson omg it happened to me too, I have different hair textures and the back of my hair is A LOT more curlier and frizzy. One day I asked my hair stylist why it was like that and she told me about her friend who had a tumor on her scalp? and had really frizzy hair there, which were falling. I never went to any other stylist since she told me that. My curls have never been so happy.
WHAT?! I feel like that should be a crime for a hairstylist to ever even say to their client! I hope my videos and others in the community help you learn to love your curls!! 💖
Can Amanda show a little more of her routines? My hair is just like hers and would really like to get more information on how to take care of it. Thank you guys! you guys are amazing. Always tell my curly friends about Mell and her seethed.
That’s “seester” eh? Lol!! So it’s Mel & Amanda?? I was wondering what her name was. I wonder if she knows how extremely beautiful she is... Mel is also a major beaut! Jus sayin.. there’s something about the younger one, she got that “X factor” thing. Both girls are so pretty & cute, and charismatic AF!! Photogenic af! I just noticed when... uhh ....SEeeeester Amanda was focused on her hair - rather than how there’s a camera there, totally candid - HOLEEE she’s got that magic beauty I don’t know how else to say it, I don’t want Mel to think that she is any bit “less than” she is just as beautiful & charming (and fun! & funny!😁) it’s just that Lil SEECE has got that certain “je ne sais quoi” - I’m SO glad she started to join in these vids. Oh AND 1 more thing, this channel is maybe the only one where they don’t talk too much about nothing blah blah blah and if they do it’s still interesting, educational or at least entertaining... Only thing that bugs me is those products they use I’ve never heard of. I know brands like Joico and Redken... and all of my hair care products are from the dollarama- and they’re pretty nice!! Just the same as any salon brand to me 🤷🏻♀️ Might be why my good hair days only come from sleeping on it and letting it go for days and days... I got great head of hair I just donno how to make it look good on purpose. If I put it up in a twisted bun while it’s damp, then take it out at the end of the day- it. Looks. Luscious AF!! But only for a sec. lol. Then all that lusciousness hides underneath and the outside hair gets fluffy like each strand doesn’t want to touch eachother... they’re tryna get 6feet away from eachother! 😆 Anyways I know “ends need friends” and frizz is from hair being wet and dry at the same time... so air drying is no good for me unless I put it into twistees but then I get a big kink .... Got any friends with super thick wavy but super fine hair and a good drugstore product and/or technique for my crazy do??
5 stages of quarantine according to Mell Day 1: Excitement 😀: " I went on a very long walk... I embraced all of it... I had alil hop to my step" Day 2: Denial 😌: " I am very comfortable ..my bonnet has been on all day long its 3:15pm" Day 3: Acceptance😩 : "Quarantine is driving me crazy " Day 4: Perseverance 😤: "I got my army shirt... everyday in this quarantine there are new battles" Day 5: Idgaf 😎: "Today I'm gonna get real...I'm strip of any glitz or glam.. no makeup" Texture Friday!!!! Oooooohhh yesssss. Thank you And may God bless and keep you all safe.
Day 292.... WHAT IS EVEN LIFE 😳😭 Also note I've been binge watching curly girl videos (I always assumed my hair was straight and now wondering if there is ANY hope to have some wave pattern) it's 2:22 ✨
I throw my hair in a bun til I wash again, I just can't deal with all that lol I want my curls to be popping but I can't imagine spending that kinda time on my hair
I heard about olaplex no. 3 from you, on your post summer vacation video. I have virgin hair but it felt damaged - breaking a lot, dry, brittle, frizzy etc. So, I bought olaplex and did a treatment 3 days ago. I can not thank you enough for it! My 3rd day hair looks better than what my wash day hair was looking like the past few months.
Thank you so much for making such detailed, simple videos! I am 32 and just figured out I don't have dry, frizzy, and poofy hair, I just have been taking "care" of my wavy/curly hair completely wrong! (Why has no one ever taught me the correct way to take care of my hair) I am now on my own journey to transition and I am so excited. I have done so much research and keep coming back to your videos, my hair is thick, long and damaged, and all of this seems so overwhelming but you and your sister give me hope that one day I can have beautiful hair like you two. Thank you again!
I have been growing my hair for almost a year now and it’s almost to my shoulders from a undercut. I am wearing it natural for the first time ever. (stylist of 35yrs) I have learned so much about dealing with my own hair by watching you. I love your delivery it’s wonderful. Tried finger coiling today, I need practice😏 and more slip, I’m using self isolation to learn my own curly routine. Thank you!
My hair texture is more like Amanda's! I used to hate my curls especially since I have seborrheic dermatitis and I would throw my hair up in a bun or straighten it out if I have time, being a mom of two. Both of you gals are a blessing to me on my journey to embracing my curls and learning how to take care/manage/style my hair and scalp. Thank you guys so much!!! 💛💛💛
I'm 39 and finally realized I have wavy hair. Apparently my DNA knew better (my Ancestry traits said I should have wavy hair), but honestly I hadn't noticed until I had my first child. Now, after 4 years being frustrated with my hair, I'm embracing the curl (wave) and I have to say, "Thank you, Mell!" While I'm not used to my routine yet, I'm working on it, and all of your videos have been a huge help in developing that routine. Thank you so much.
I love Mell's energy and fun personality...but I also think Amanda is just so sweet. I really enjoy watching both of them explain their different hair routines! :)
A DAY BY DAY ROUTINE! THANK YOU! This was so needed! It is so helpful to see an expert respond to the unique conditions of waking up each morning after wash day.
I love you Mel and thanks for having Amanda on your channel, she has hair like mine and now I FINALLY can have some more help on how to properly care for my type of hair!
I am so jealous that your hair holds shape so well! I have to completely wet and restyle everyday if I want good curls I can wear down. They just always fall out over night 🙁
I love the Verb oil, I got it in a Sephora play or Ipsy bag last year and it’s still full even after a few uses. use it when I travel!! It leaves my hair soft and shiny. I’m also a 3b/c curly hair type. I just ordered a verb kit based off products you recommended and I used your link! I need to tame this high porosity hair. Your tips have been helping 💖❤️
Hi Mell and seester Amanda! I find your videos to be the most well done and informative of any that I have viewed in the curly girl world. I look forward to every one, whether it is helpful to my situation or just entertaining, you always do such a great service to us all. Especially in this time of being home and bored, I'm just looking for some entertainment, thank you for all you do and the time you put into it!
When you refreshed your hair and said that you didn't want to use water for the first time because your hair didn't need it, i was asking myself: does she have a video about refreshing her hair with the knowledge of what the hair needs at that point? And I mean if the hair needs protein or hydration. So I'm asking you, brilliant Mell, do you have a video on that? :-D
Just discovered your channel yesterday and am inspired to do something about my crazy, frizzy (trying to be curly) hair while in quarantine. Love your videos! Also love that you're going to be trying out more drugstore products because I am on a tiny budget!
I have very short curly hair, but I haven't had a cut in four months so I cut it myself yesterday, I shaved the sides and the back and trimmed the top and it turned out pretty good.
I just got my Verb order. I purchased it after your last video. The products are fab!!!! I commit to lovin' my curls every day during sheltering in place. I had the case of why bother. I worth it that's why bother. Thanks Mel for getting me back in shape.
Wow I've been experimenting with different hair routines too! Glad to know I'm not the only one. :) I hope we all come out of this quarantine healthy, happy and with the best hair ever. :) ❤
Hey Mell, do you have any curly care tips for people who need to have it in a bun during the weekday? I absolutely love my curly hair but it is a challenge to understand how to take care of it when the military requires to have it in a neat/sleeked bun during the week. I would so appreciate your feedback!
I’m barley going curly, been leaving my hair natural but with little to no product 😫😳 until the last 3 months since I’ve been watching your channel! I love you and your sisters energy, reminds me of me and my sister and her name is Melissa too 💜 love you both can’t wait for more videos
Amanda's hair length is my goal, I love the color and highlights as well! I need curl sisters like you girls in LA! Thank you for uplifting my quarantine routine with your beautiful personalities and positive vibes. Keep it up ladies 🌻☀️
i have curly hair but i never knew how to take care of it but lately the last few weeks i’ve been watching curly hair videos and i’m going all curly now💜
I've not been styling my hair during the quarantine tbh, but I have been washing/conditioning as normal. I also increased my masking to improve the health of my hair. I've been wearing a scrunchie in a loose updo most days. When I do leave the house (grocery shopping) a few pretty clips is enough. Less heat and refreshing should help the condition of my hair, so silver lining. Be well and best wishes.
Just discovered your channel today and I love it! I'm trying to perfect both my daily doing the least routine and giving myself bigger hair for when I care, while no one important can see me. 💁🏽
Hi I followed each step from your videos!im only a kid and did my hair just like yours!my mom also was very happy I did my hair on my own! This is very recemonded
I’m early!!!!😝😍 Mell can you please recommend non-fragranced products for us curlies with sensitive scalps and eczema? I would really appreciate it. ❤️❤️❤️🥰
I am eczema prone and the best line I have found is Jessiecurl's no added fragrance line. Otherwise use a fragrance free shampoo and conditioner, then perhaps the children's products in a mainstream line eg cantu for styling. This keeps a lot of the fragrance off your scalp, which should minimise irritation.
Hey Mell & Amanda! I'm in the military and wear my hair in sleek bun 5 days a week for 8-10 hours each day. What would you recommend for extra care for my waves/curls? My hair is in-between 2C-3A. Love your videos so so much!🥰
OMG YASSSSS If all this quarantine is is my favorite curly hair seesters posting, I've got no complaints. I may want to get out of the ding dang house, but like.............................................. The seesters. I should do work. I'm not gonna. I'm gonna wash my hair!
I've been trying to embrace my curls after years of not knowing how the heck to tame them lol. I tried your finger curling method and LOVED the results. The only issue I'm having is that my roots seem to be straight. Do you have any recommendations on how to get some curl and volume into the roots? Thanks girl!
oh my goodness, THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 💖 My hair is finally coming out the way I want it to whenever I diffuse my hair. I have thin curly shoulder length hair, similar to yours, and I would always scrunch my hair when diffusing leaving it super short which I HATE! and I would always apply oil IN my deep conditioning routine which was the worst, because when I would rinse my hair the oil would stay and saturate my hair and I would just have to rewash it all over again. It makes sooo much more sense now to seal it as a finish though. THANK YOU AGAIN 👏🏽
I think I really discover my real curl pattern just this month... Because I used a silk bonnet for the first time (my hair was damaged so bad at the back of my head during the night 😱). I always had curly hair, but never really took care of it because I didn't knew how until I discover your Chanel 😍 (and honestly, you saved my hair) and now, looking at my hair recently, I realised that I have exactly the same kind of hair as Amanda... I don't know how to cut my hair myself, even with you last video, because you have so much volume and tight curls... Me I'm always struggling to have volume, there is no layer in my hair and I would like to know how to create it... I cut my hair in November last year and now I think I should refresh my hair with a cut... But I'm so scared to cut it myself... 😱✂️ Love your videos, love you two and take care of you and your family during this quarantine! 😘
Just subscribed from Deep South Texas...I have a 2yr old curly headed girl and I have no clue how to maintain. I have 3 kids 3 & under so I’m also trying to learn how to air dry and wear natural hair (it’s not curly, but not straight either 😕) so I just stayed up waaay past my bedtime binge watching. Can’t wait to get on the bonnet train, but also gotta build a product arsenal 💰💵💸 (thank god I just got my trump money 😜) I watched your video on trimming and I think ima go for it tomorrow, cause the little curl needs a trim baaaaad. Thanks for your channel, great content & editing. Props to y’all 🤠
Hi guys 🙃 I so enjoy your videos and the tips you both share. Thank you so much for the effort you put up with for the sake of healthy hair not only for yourselves but for the audience as well 😘
There's a way to get rid of most flatness when air drying your hair and it's basically just wrapping it sort of in a scrunch way with a cotton fabric for about 40 min and then let it air dry completely, I've done it and it leaves my hair amazing, it controls frizz and it really helps me achieve volume when air drying, maybe you could try that out

I was just about to look up curl refresh tips today too! Edit: I often describe that “cool” feeling as “it feels like my scalp has been chewing on Orbit.”
So I'm using this time to really get my curl game up. I didn't realize how much I'd been doing wrong, like wetting my hair down thoroughly everyday in the shower (not using shampoo, but co-washing mostly). I'm nervous about letting my hair go too long between wet downs. I just stopped using deva products (that might have been the reason my hair was horrifically dry by the end of the day, so the idea of a curl lasting to day 2 was a joke to me - I always thought witchcraft was involved to get cute day 2 hair, or that people were just straight up lying). I'm still trying to figure out what my new go-to product is. And I'll definitely be starting by wearing a bonnet once it arrives. Thank you so much for your videos. I grew up not knowing what to do with my hair (my mom had 0 clue too) other than relax it.
@Amanda GURL I had to go back to your very first appearance on the channel to compare cus your hair looks AMAZING and you’ve come such a long way! Good for u 🙌👏👏
I so wish I would have known about your salon before I moved back to the States. I am having all kinds of issues with my hair. The picture in my profile is what my hair is supposed to look like. It don't right now. I have lost a lot of curl. But watching your channel has helped me see that I can get my curl back I just ordered a Denman brush because I have never heard of it before. Thank you for the tips Can't wait to see what else you got!
Great video! I’m trying not to be lazy with my hair but it’s a struggle during this quarantine, especially running after 3 kids. 🥴 Are you ever going to do videos specifically for people with more textured hair, like kinky-curly? I would love to see a few. ❤️
You guys are awesome. E Was not sure about your channel at first but you totally won me over. You have a quarantine-margarita-drinking fan in Merida, Mexico.
Hi Mell! My curls keep falling really soon after wash day (like 3 hours or so), and my hair's quite frizzy. I also can never get as much definition as I do with my front curls with my back waves- and this is really a big turn off. What do I need to do to make my hair properly curly that'll last? Many of my friends tell me to use a diffuser, but it's expensive. All I can afford, tbh, is a curl definition cream, and that is a leave in conditioner at best. I hope you can help- thank you :")
@Nikitha MP I also have the same problem with the back strands that I have and the fact that it doesn’t hold and I have a diffuser to which didn’t help much. I’m also confused as to what to do.
Curly hair is a investment tbh, you need quite a few products if you want nice curls, maybe ask for a diffuser for your birthday/Christmas they are cheap alternatives
Isabella Chidiak Can I ask u something? Is gel damaging to hair? Growing up I always heard u should never go to bed with gel in ur hair(I heard the boys who used gel say this) that otherwise the hair gets damaged.
Hi Mell! I need your help! I'm a nurse working on a COVID ICU so I had to shampoo my hair for 7 days in a row last week and it's so frizzy now. Any tips to keep my curls healthy when I'm having to wash it so much? Before this I shampooed it maybe once a week.
You should try oils! argan, coconut you should try some out and find what oil works for your hair! I have alot of respect for your work! Stay healthy please and take care ❤️
Deep condition twice a week to get that moisture back in your hair. Maybe a little bit of leave in conditioner after washing it too. Thank you and stay safe!
maybe pre poo with oil every time? I don't use my old face wash anymore but the one i have is insanely drying even when i had oily skin (mine is more combo now). so i literally put on coconut oil first (which i know is comodegenic but the wash is STRONG) and then wash it off and my face is only slightly dry in the clean way
Love this!!! My hair is I think 2b/2c. My colour is growing out and my ringlets I used to have as a child are coming through at the roots 😂 I’ve tried many times to stop straightening my hair and embrace my curls over the years, I’ve watched your videos for a while now but my biggest struggle is refreshing my hair. It’s fine on the first day but I was it once or twice a week and in between that it just end up in a knotted birds nest! Even when sleeping in a bonnet. I feel like because my hair isn’t a tight curl it just flattened out and turns to frizz
You encouraged me to put my hair journey on UA-cam 🥺. I cut my hair & have been using your tips , & it has worked wonders ! First video will be uploaded in a couple weeks ! (:
Y'all are so cute love your videos and how y'all are informative but dont take life too seriously 🥰 thanks for being a light especially with everything going on
I think I have your sisters hair exactly. But let me say firstly I'm so glad I found your channel! I'm 8 months into transitioning (not hair transition, the other one lol) and I've always had great curly hair but I never really cared THAT much about it until now and you've been an absolute treasure trove of information. I love watching all of your videos and you've definitely helped me get my routine on it's way to perfection. I have a denman brush and a diffuser now lmao xD I used to just let it air dry.. .4 hours worth... Anyway, I'm still digging through your past videos about products and oils and leave ins and all kinds of stuff so, subscribed for life lol stay curly
Love you so much mell! Your videos are super helpful 💗🤗 I was wondering if you might by able to do a video on your updated favorite hair products?? All the love ❤
Can you please make a video about how to recover from flash drying? I have struggled with it for awhile and finally realized what it was thanks to one of your videos. I would greatly appreciate it!

I noticed your curls in some videos and I was really surprised that's your natural hair. They look great❤

Am I the only one who usually is too lazy to refresh after day 1? No? Just me? Ok.
I usually make it to day 2, and that’s that. Lol. More work at home days and may not bother getting that far. 😬
I throw my hair in a bun til I wash again, I just can't deal with all that lol I want my curls to be popping but I can't imagine spending that kinda time on my hair
Aurore Lupin yes I never refresh I just wash my hair again day 3 or 4
No, you’re not the only one 🙋🏻♀️
KirschmanS same i make it about two days then give up and put it in a bun
Mell and Amanda's QuaROUTINES hehe
that was bad lol
I liked it 🤣😍😍
😆😆😆😆😆👏
that was incredible
Thank for having your seester in the video! I've got looser thick, coarse curls and I always find her hair concerns (mainly hold) and tips relatable.
We're getting spoiled on this quarantine that when everything goes back to normal we're gonna have seesters withdrawals 🤣
Aw! Thank ya miss! Made my day ☺️
Totally agree!
Y'all are the best 😁!
I’m glad that I’m not the only one who thinks the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil line smells like play dough 😂
I also makes my hair flaky.
@@natashahernandez2033 same I didn't like it when I used it😂
It wreaks!
It’s really does! But I like the results I get so imma keep using it 😌
I love the play dough smell and it kinda makes me want to eat it like I did as a kid 😂

I just got my Verb order. I purchased it after your last video. The products are fab!!!! I commit to lovin' my curls every day during sheltering in place. I had the case of why bother. I worth it that's why bother. Thanks Mel for getting me back in shape.
I just finished a verb hair mask a couple days ago! I loved how my hair looked after. I’ve also been binging your videos, and learning a lot.
You two have the most BEAUTIFUL hair I wish I had that much hair 😭 but alas here I am with my fine short curlies
Keep it up ladies 🌻☀️
i have curly hair but i never knew how to take care of it but lately the last few weeks i’ve been watching curly hair videos and i’m going all curly now💜
Mell:
“I never sptritz water overall and then take some product and just start scrunching.”
Me:
oh 👁👄👁
Lol I just did that oops 😬
I've not been styling my hair during the quarantine tbh, but I have been washing/conditioning as normal. I also increased my masking to improve the health of my hair. I've been wearing a scrunchie in a loose updo most days. When I do leave the house (grocery shopping) a few pretty clips is enough. Less heat and refreshing should help the condition of my hair, so silver lining. Be well and best wishes.
I’m actually using quarantine to try to workout the perfect routine for me
Just discovered your channel today and I love it! I'm trying to perfect both my daily doing the least routine and giving myself bigger hair for when I care, while no one important can see me. 💁🏽
I know this is a curly hair channel, but hey Mell, you should do a daily makeup routine. I love, love, love your cute and (seems) easy makeup
This was just what I needed! The bare minimum without messing up the health of my curls. Thanks for sharing.
I have the curl pattern of Amanda and the hair thickness of Mel so I’m trying to figure out how to combine the two routines 😂😂
Same!😂😭
I have Mels curls but my hair is less 😂
Scarebearsarah mines a mix of both of their textures 😭
Follow Amanda's routine, but use less product
gurll same
Because I haven’t been going anywhere I haven’t been putting any product or anything..love you mell❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love how I binge watch these knowing I only have a twa. But I still love her❤️❤️
Hi I followed each step from your videos!im only a kid and did my hair just like yours!my mom also was very happy I did my hair on my own! This is very recemonded
I WANT YOUR CURLS!!! Such a great video, love the tips!
I’m early!!!!😝😍
Mell can you please recommend non-fragranced products for us curlies with sensitive scalps and eczema? I would really appreciate it. ❤️❤️❤️🥰
I am eczema prone and the best line I have found is Jessiecurl's no added fragrance line. Otherwise use a fragrance free shampoo and conditioner, then perhaps the children's products in a mainstream line eg cantu for styling. This keeps a lot of the fragrance off your scalp, which should minimise irritation.
Thanks guys definitely gonna try those ❤️
Hey Mell & Amanda! I'm in the military and wear my hair in sleek bun 5 days a week for 8-10 hours each day. What would you recommend for extra care for my waves/curls? My hair is in-between 2C-3A. Love your videos so so much!🥰
Been in quarantine since the middle of March (live in Spain right now)- I look forward to your videos every week 😭 thank you soooo muchhh
Finally! I've always wondered how your week looks.
I just found this girl I'm hooked on her videos ! I love her so much! Her personality is so cute and not overdone ♥️😆 like a Modern day Lucille Ball
Haha I love this! I was playing with my routine and going "huh, I wonder what the bare minimum would be?" and lo and behold! 💖💖💖
Am I the only one who like the fluffy hair look 😂 It’s so soft
It is indeed magical 😍😍
Love your videos, love you two and take care of you and your family during this quarantine! 😘
Perfect Timing! Today is Wash-Day! I absolutley love your Videos!
Props to y’all 🤠
Amanda you’re amazing!! My hair is closer to your type so I find your advice just as helpful as Mels! Love when you are in the videos too 💓
This was mad helpful!
Thank you for making this video Mell & Amanda!!!!!
I'm using this time to learn about my curls and trying different things. Even pulled up in a pony tail most days, I see improvement ❤
Hi guys 🙃 I so enjoy your videos and the tips you both share. Thank you so much for the effort you put up with for the sake of healthy hair not only for yourselves but for the audience as well 😘
IVE BEEN NEEDING THIS, THANK YOU!!!
i have never seen anyone with more perfect skin!!!!
I love the video guys! And your guys hair looks amazing! Amanda’s hair looks extra soft with just the leave-in in. 💝
Can you do some protective hairstyles do to during this quarantine pleaaase
I love that Shea Moisture deep conditioner because I don't get a lot of hair fall out in the shower like I do with other kinds.
"If you're not defusing and you're wondering why your hair is flat😕 now you know why" well now I know
There's a way to get rid of most flatness when air drying your hair and it's basically just wrapping it sort of in a scrunch way with a cotton fabric for about 40 min and then let it air dry completely, I've done it and it leaves my hair amazing, it controls frizz and it really helps me achieve volume when air drying, maybe you could try that out

Just in time before my hairwash😍💕
Your sisters hair is so beautiful!!! It’s my first time seeing her hair
you're both literally so beautiful I can never get over it 😍
Not gonna lie i look forward to wash day's and doing a regular hair routine...Just makes me feel better since I have to work at home
I’ve watched this video 4 times already 😂 love you guys ❤️
U da real MVP!! We Love you ❤️💖
Amanda is so cute. 😅 I really enjoyed you filming alone. ❤️
I absolutely love your videos!!!! It has help me a lot with my curly hair! Thank you so much girl
You guys are awesome. E
Was not sure about your channel at first but you totally won me over.
A diffuser and some more products is your best best unfortunately
It sounds like you probably need some products with more protein.
I enjoy your videos so much Mel! Sending you and Amanda lots of love! ❤️
I don’t have a suggestion but I do have a huge THANK YOU for you for you and all your colleagues on the front lines! Health workers Rock!
maybe pre poo with oil every time? I don't use my old face wash anymore but the one i have is insanely drying even when i had oily skin (mine is more combo now). so i literally put on coconut oil first (which i know is comodegenic but the wash is STRONG) and then wash it off and my face is only slightly dry in the clean way
My hair is like Amanda’s hair! I’m loving both your hair, ladies!
Hi Mell and Amanda 💗 l was wondering if you guys can do a vid about low density fine hair and products that work best for volume
Mel!!! I love u girl! U always make me laugh!!!
I LOVE your videos! They are so informative and you’re also hilarious 😂
Is there a brush that is similar to the paddle Denman brush that Amanda uses, the small one is just not working for me Lol! Any recommendations?
Aussie's Miracle Curls line is bomb! I love the conditioner!
