For all parents out there, the scalp massage shampoo brush is great for kids learning to shower/shampoo in their own! Scalp gets a much better cleaning.
Absolutely! My son has really thick hair and has trouble shampooing his scalp properly in the shower. The massager has really helped in getting his hair and scalp clean.
Something to add: If you're one of those people the denman brush doesn't work for - the tangle teezer wet brush is great to style long 2b - 3a type hair because it doesn't seperate the hair as much and cause frizz like the denman brush does for some people with 2b/2c hair
I have 2a/2b hair that I always thought was completely straight, but just frizzy. Dry brushing has caused so much breakage so when I found out I could detangle my hair wet it completely changed the game for me. I've been detangling in the shower for about 2 years now and my hair has never been this healthy. Before my hair never felt like it wasn't growing at all because it was just breaking off all the time, now I'm retaining more length than ever. So I just wanted to thank all the curly girls for helping with my hair care. ❤️
As a wavy girl, it is SO REFRESHING and VALIDATING to hear you mention that wavy types can dry brush! I use my Wet Brush for like... everything. Detangling before/during the shower, styling, smoothing, even touch-up detangling throughout the day. I've seen so many people say that wavy types shouldn't use a brush on dry hair (or EVER) because it "ruins the waves" and I've just never found that to be true.
So I’m apparently 3 years late 😂 as I just saw this video! And today I skipped on out and bought a paddle brush with nylon bristles and that odd brush you showed for wet detangling. And OMG, I just used the paddle brush with my prepoo and compared to using my wide tooth comb I had almost no shedding! I’ve always been advised to stir clear of brushes even with my wet detangling so I’ve always used a wide tooth comb. I have mid back length 3c/4b natural curly hair for reference here and when I decided to stop relaxing my hair about 10 years ago brushes were not considered to be black hair friendly. But based on your video and the Blowout Professor gut talking about using brushes for detangling I decided to try something new and I’m so glad I did! Thanks!❤
I’ve always said “The bigger the hair, the closer to God!” as quoted by the lovely Dolly Parton. LOL. I’ve always heard my mama and my Mawmaw say that, my whole life growing up! And it’s just kind of stuck! 😅
Okay, this came at an AMAZING time. My mom was in the hospital for two months and because of COVID i couldn't go and see her and take care of her hair. This caused EXTREME matting. She has been home for a month and a half and I am still dealing with her hair and the matting. I would LOVE to see you deal with true extreme matting. Also any extra tips would so helpful. Thank you!
Hey girl! I dont know if this will help but when my hair gets matted (i have fine hair and a looser texture) I put deep conditioner on my hair, a plastic cap, and then i warm up water (heat it up to a point that you feel comfortable with) dip a towel in it, extract the extra water from the towel and then i put the towel in top of my plastic cap. After that, i put a shower cap on top of all of that to encapsulate the heat, that makes my nots softer and makes it easier for me to detangle when i have matted hair.
Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your Mum. I used to have long dreadlocks, and brushed them out last year. It took like 4 hours per dread, and took months. My advice is to tease out as much as you can with your fingers, almost like you're trying to fluff it up and , then use something like a metal tail comb, and tease at the edges of the knots using the point. I actually used a pin, and a metal skewer. Work from the bottom up and keep combing the loose hair to stop it tangling, and switch between methods. I didn't use conditioner, I tried it on a few and found it easier to identify the real problem areas without. I did condition after. Obviously my experience is a bit different, and only what worked for me, but I hope it helps in some way. Bekki
@@haljordan3054 I really appreciate this. I have been using a fine-tooth comb and a beard brush which worked pretty well but she has such a sensitive scalp that she can't stand too much of it. I'm trying to make it as painless as possible but that's eluding me at the moment. :) Thank you for sharing your methods.
Thank you for talking about cleaning your brushes. This is not something I used to do regularly - i would remove the hair but not actually clean them and the buildup over time would drive me nuts. I finally deep cleaned my brushes recently and I now make sure to rinse them well after each use and Boom! My brushes stay looking brand new! ✨
Yours are the only curly hair care tips that I watch from start to end each time even if it's on similar topics because you're funny af and bloody informative. I'm not black but I love the warm reference to the black community's epic looks. I have learned how to take care of my curly hair from tips from the black natural hair community and am always inspired by the elegance of their hair. You have paid homage to them as well and we love seeing credit given where credit is due. THANK YOU ALL for helping me with my long ass curl journey
I have low porosity hair, but I second the dry detangling. I can't for the life of me detangle when my hair is wet, so I have to wait until it's 60-70% dry.
Yay!! Girl I was having trouble with styling my hair. Cause the top gets the style but underneath it just stays straight or with a little wave. So this will be awesome for styling!! Thanks so much Mell!! You're Awesome!! 🥰😍❤
I literally have a drawer full of different types of brushes from the past (decades) that I used depending on how long my hair was, how it was cut & how I styled it. I also have a drawer of curling irons/hot brushes plus a very expensive flat iron that I never once used. Just getting my hair dry was usually time consuming & exhausting enough lol. Wearing it natural has freed me from all that even though it requires more of an investment in products. I hated blow driers until I discovered the diffuser attachment. Best invention since foam rollers.
Most thorough explanation of brushes on UA-cam . You went through every possible detail! Thank you for your effort!! The content you create is so creatively unique!!!
Mell: I thought you were taking a nap. Amanda: I'm not taking a nap! Mell: You wanted to. Amanda, aggressive: I ALWAYS WANT TO, BUT I DON'T!! same girl, same
100% agree about the wide tooth comb! I started to use one when I went natural and my hair had never been so notty and hard to detangle. I legit was nearly in tears and I have a slight bald patch on my crown from the hair I ripped out! I've since switched to a wet brush and pre poo and I never have any issues detangling now 😊
Just after 37 years I finally decided to take proper care of my thick curly hair! Amazon is going to love me soon. Very informative on the brushing, thank you! So far i got my start products sorted just brushes now.
You have no idea how much I needed this. My hair lately has become so ugh full of tangles and knots and I'm like what the heck. Love all your videos :) thanks so much.
Hi Mel! Hope you are taking time for yourself to recharge. I worry about you! But then, I’m 63, a mother of 3 and 2 grown grandchildren. I guess it’s my nature to nurture. ☺️ Anyway, just wanted you to know I am JUST STARTING my curly hair journey.....I have fought my hair all my life. I’m enjoying your videos and have learned a lot! However, I still have quite a way to go. God willing I’ll be around long enough to get this down. Thank you for the info, entertainment and laughter. You are amazing! 😘
I know Deva Curl is in “time out” right now, but here is a tutorial on elongating curls. It starts at 2:43. Hope it works. ua-cam.com/video/LFLCD12RKbw/v-deo.html
I love this! Tools are often overlooked but make such a difference in the result of our wash day ❤️💙 I never would have appreciated the importance of tools without your videos!
I bought the Rose Gold Paddle because of you and Im loving it! my hair is not really curly, is between wavy and curly and the results are lovely, even more than the D3. Thanks so much
A few days ago I started watching your videos when I discovered the video about your cousins who didn’t know they had curly hair.. it’s made me realize that I have wavy hair that I’ve been treating like straight hair. I hadn’t realized how much it has changed after my pregnancy! I’m so excited to start my curly hair journey. 🥰
Would you ever consider collaborating with a hijabi or someone who covers their hair on a daily basis? I think it’d be interesting to get their tips or styles, and then you bringing your technical expertise would be super helpful for us new hijabis!
I don’t think there would be much to say since hair care is from all her videos. The only thing she would contribute is make sure you’re protecting the hair while it’s in the scarf by using a satin/silk scarf under your hijab if it’s not made of silk or satin. Others there’s not much to say- even your ends are safely tucked away so it’s a good protective style in itself 😊
I was struggling about how I was going to detangle my knotted curly hair. Then I looked at my phone and said out loud It’s Texture Tuesday! Thx Mell and Amanda for the video, my curls needed this!
i did this a few times, last time wasn’t even that long ago. i most definitely did cry when it wouldn’t come out. ended up ripping it out and probably ripped so much hair😣
Mell! Thank you so much for everything. I found you a few days ago when I was considering cutting my own hair. I have been cutting my husband's hair at home for the past 3.5 years or so. I haven't gotten my hair cut ONCE in 2020 because of COVID and I desperately need a cut. Since the infection rate is so high where I live, I decided to cut it myself. I am SO thankful to have found your channel! I actually believe that I can do it on my own now. Additionally, you have helped me to define my curls again! I grew up in IL where my hair was curly all the time. Moving out to CO, where there is little humidity, means my curls became wimpy and sad. I cannot wait to begin using your tips in my routine. YOU are a lifesaver. Also, you and your sister have a lovely (and funny) relationship together. :)
Best and most detailed video you've done. I've been detangling and styling with my Wet Brush, but your points convinced me to try the Denman for styling because I want some more shrinkage from my ringlets. I'd love to see a video on products that prevent shrinkage, and also ones that encourage it!
Yes! Love 💘 big hair! Mel thank you lm almost 50 and l finally learned that I have curly hair. And l just started loving doing my hair. So grateful that I found you .
Yes to the boar bristle brush detangling! 🙌🏼I use the Wet brand & swear by that method. My number one hair tip and has made it look so much shinier and better. I don’t have oily hair but it’s the only thing that doesn’t leave me with oilier roots and dry ends. It’s also great for exfoliation for me, like you say. I also am convinced it’s why my hair grows so fast, with the scalp stimulation & blood flow.
@@missbeaussie for me, yes. But I think everyones hair is different, and I know some people get breakage that way, so they prefer to detangle in the shower with wet hair.
Mell, I started my long hair curly journey with the pandemic. I’ve been following you ever since. I just started rewatching some vids and techniques are starting to solidify. I couldn’t quite get the point of the Denman brush until I was rewatching in search of a remedy for frizz in hot humid weather. On my next shampoo day I clumped with Denman, not necessarily to curl but to eliminate frizz. My 2b/c wavy hair responded and gave me frizz free results. Thank you.
I finally tried it today. I don’t even have a denman, just used the vented detangling brush but pulled up from the root with some tension. Even the parts that fall flat dried into ringlets! Sorcery!
Thanks to you Mell I have the scalp massage brush, the tangle tamer and the denman brush. The scalp massage brush is brilliant. Due to neurological issues I have major sensitivity throughout my skull. When I touch my head I get a horrible sensation right around my head (like someone pressing on the pressure point in your wrist - horrible). With the massage brush it is again a pleasure to wash my hair. And my scalp is so much cleaner after using it compared to washing with my hands. The tangle tamer - I've recommended that to so many people. I wish my mom had that when I was a kid. Fantastic brush. Thank you for teaching me about them. I'm 50 and still learning.
I literally just got a new detangling brush today. It's soft with those little balls at the ends and so good at wet brushing (it was advertised as a wet & dry brush). And it cost like 7€. Absolute steal. I'd love to learn more about oils and what ingredients to look out for - or what captions to look out for for fine, wavy (like 2B/C-3A) hair. I'm trying to build a routine and slowly getting a collection of products but I'm only missing a nice oil/serum at the end (and a leave-in but that's easier to figure out)
@@RacquelMariePerez thank you! I just quickly checked the price (can't afford products that are too pricey currently so I'm living with 2€ styling creams and mousses lmao) but once I settle in my new home and can invest a bit more I'll definitely give it a try! I think I heard several curly UA-camrs mention it while binging curly videos, too. thank you so much ❤️❤️
Just wanted to say thank you! Your videos have helped me so much. I started embracing my curls a few years ago but it has only been since discovering your video that I have been able to style them nicely. When I am at work I do tend to put my hair up so it is out of my face. Todat I wore it down and one of my regulars comment on my curls...she hadnt realized that the curls were natural and said she thought I'd used a curling iron to do my hair. It was like yes its a good curl day. So thank you so much for teaching us and keep up the great videos
Could you do some sustainable/low waste curls content? Review shampoo/conditioner bars, or minimal/recycled plastic products (e.g. Aveda)? SustainablyVegan is a low waste youtuber with gorgeous curls and learned it all from you! You should collab!
I purchased that shampoo brush through her link and now I honestly can't wash my hair without it! Works so well and I couldn't recommend it enough, thanks Mell 😊
Thank you for this video! I got a Flexi brush after watching this and it has made a world of difference for my coarse, 2B waves to my daughters’ very fine, silky hair. We finally have no tears at bath time when it’s time to detangle!
My life changed with the denman brush, I feel that my hair springs a lot when I use it....even when I just use it to have a better distribution of the products, my hair feels better
@@ashleesmall6458 I've seen a lot of videos of people using dupes, and they work just fine so don't worry about that, also Mell has a video of how she uses it, but while you learn it could be a challenge You can also search for videos using the denman brush, a lot of different people use different techniques and you might find one that works for you (if you would like, I recently watched a video of a girl called Alexa's curls, she has a technique where she "fingercoils" with the brush, and it's kinda weird, but her hair looks amazing, so maybe look it up and try it) Also, I've realize that the more I style my hair, the more the denman brush "works" (like, it gets more defined), so don't lose hope!!
I am SO grateful for your channel! I have gotten my hair done ONCE in my entire life it was after I got married. I have always been hesitant because I have 3b hair and am mixed and I have yet to come across a stylist in my area that specializes with my type hair. Unfortunately when I got my hair done I assumed they would leave it natural I didn’t ask them to style just went for a wash and trim. The stylist straightened my hair and it kind of was a downer . Now I am happy I can figure out how to just do it all in my own thanks to you!
Omg...I literally just bought a BeHairful brush. Now, I own a really old Wet brush, a wide-tooth comb, a closer-toothed comb, a Denman knock-off AND the BeHairful which hasn't even arrived. (Funny story: several years ago, torturing my granddaughter with 3B-3C hair, were detangling with the wide-toothed comb I mentioned. She was like 4 yrs old. We were both very upset, painful detangling not progressing. Then she tells me I should use a brush bcoz her mom does at home with her. Changed👏🏽my👏🏽life!) My biggest issues is frizziness. Being a "lady of a certain age" has made my hair *SUPER* dry. (Plus, I don't drink enough water.) Maintaining moisture & low frizz feels impossible on my 3A hairs. This video was fantastic! You give the best advice & this vid was pretty comprehensive. I 2nd the hope that one day you can cover sustainable/eco-friendly/ETC. products for curlies. I hate the massive amounts of plastic consumption & environmental impact beauty products so often have. Thank you Mel! 👋🏽
It’s crazy how different everyone’s detangling methods are! I love using a wide tooth comb and always have, but I can totally see that it doesn’t work for mell! Just goes to prove no two curly girls are the same haha
Thank you for this video! I'm currently sporting a very short cut that I'm now growing out. I discovered during my pregnancy (my daughter is now 17, it's been a bit) that my hair wasn't straight but wavy to curly. I had spent years brushing it straight and drying it straight so I just didn't know my hair actually had some texture to it. I've decided to grow it back out and try to see just what my texture is for the first time. My hair has grown a bit since this profile pic was taken and I'm getting a bit of curl starting at the nape of my neck. I have on occasion in recent years seen that my hair will actually develop some ringlets. This will be an interesting journey. Thank you so much for your videos because honestly, more "curly girl method" videos are intimidating as hell.
I haven't owned a brush since I was a small child. Brushing my hair was so painful and difficult (my family didn't have textured hair and so tore quite a bit of my hair out). I really appreciate this guide as someone who is overwhelmed when walking down the brush aisle. I bought a couple of your recommendations and want to say thank you so much. I know this is an old video, but just know that years later it is still helping people 😂
Hey Mell I just wanted you to know- I have stick-straight, fine, bleached but somehow low porosity?? hair and I watch your channel religiously. I have learned so much from you. You're like what Caroline Hirons is for the skin, but for hair!
I applaud the ribbon curling analogy!! When I was younger I would stick my fingers around my hair and pull using that technique. While it did work I am so glad to have my Denman d3 7 row styling brush now! Definitely wanna check out the Denman D38 Power Paddle Brush though. As always great video and thanks for being hair for us!
I have learned so much! Once again informative and entertaining. Comparing using a Denman brush to curling a ribbon with scissors totally clicks! I couldn’t grasp how it wouldn’t just flatten curls. I also love the name “Spriggle.” So fun to say. 😆
so happy that I found you!!!!! I’ll be 30 this year and after a lifetime fighting with my hair I finally found your channel and feel this burst of hope that Everything’s gonna be ok :D
Loooove!!! Now can we have a follow up with your top product recommendations for different hair types (scalp care, deep conditioner, shampoo, conditioner, leave in, gels, protein products, moisture, etc ) 💖💖💖 we can call it a Curlmagedon of Curl Lovin' Products lol
I’ve recently been using my Tangle Teezer Detangling brush for both detangling and styling. And when I want a super defined wash and go, I’ve been using the black and pink Tangle Teezer Utilmate Teezer. It’s like a teasing comb, but it’s the perfect width for the perfect sized section. And it’s really helped me learn that I use bigger sloppier sections when I “freehand part.”
I started my curly hair journey a year ago and am still struggling getting curl definition at the root! Been watching Mell from the beginning and my roots are not curling. Love your videos mell!!!! 💕💕
I can’t wait for Tuesday’s! I watch you every Tuesday and get sad I have to wait another week before another Texture Tuesday😞 I just love all the knowledge w/o being boring like some videos that speak very monotone. Making me falling asleep 💤 but you and Amanda always make your videos fun to watch!
Please can you do a full tutorial of cutting short curly hair ( layers + bangs ) at home ? Because in my city there is no professional salon to cut curly hair and my hair need to be cutting And thank you for your beautiful and helpful videos
Great video Mel! I went on a detangling brush mission a few months ago when I saw you using the Wet Brush Epic Quick Dry in an earlier video. I had been using a wide tooth comb for years, but as you stated it takes forever to detangle. I tried the WB Quick Dry, Felicia Leatherwood, Tangle Teezer, some other Wet Brushes, but finally settled on the Wet Brush Go Green Detangler. It works so well with my hair I love it. My hair was super tangled the other night, and this brush went through those knots like a hot knife through butter! Thank you for all your videos and educating the curly hair community. It is greatly appreciated! 😊
This whole video for some reason reminded me of when I was little and I grabbed one of those really thin styling combs (the tail ones), twisted it into the front of my hair like spaghetti... and got it caught... I couldn’t get it out and didn’t want to get in trouble so I just cut it and used it as an excuse to cut “bangs”... I was stupid, if you couldn’t tell. So I went through the entirety of my second semester of 5th grade wearing this wide, stretchy, BRIGHT ORANGE headband every single day to keep the bangs back and hide them so no one would see them. And this was all when I used to straighten my hair every day, too! They actually grew out quite nicely though 😂 Never again!!!! Also, that green, fancy, weird looking, loopy brush... I just got one and it is A GAME CHANGER!!!!! I love that brush so much. I already convinced my cousin to buy it for her husband who also has curly hair, longer than mine, which I am jealous of. Well, actually, I convinced him to convince her to buy it for him 😂 Update: I just learned I’ve been removing the removable part of my knock-off denman brush wrong 🙃
Came for the tips, stayed for the jokes! (And the tips! 😉) You’re hilarious, brilliant, and fierce. It’s such a joy to watch your videos. Thank you for sharing your gifts.
Hey Mel. My hair is super thin. A little wavy (just found out) and breaks a lot (I am losing a lot of hair). I never colored it or did any treatment. What can I do? Do I need a bust of protein? What can I use?
I have multiple sclerosis, so having a massage brush to help with shampooing will be very handy! Thank you. Some of have parents with very different textures, and some of us just never learned. This is very good information.
Thank you for this! My daughter has thick, curly hair and I have no idea what I'm doing. I've been doing it all wrong! This was so helpful. Can't wait to try this out.
Hey Mel I’m new to your Chanel here. A lot of the things you do with your hair, I as a black women do with mine. I would love to see video with you featuring some black women in.
Omg this is so helpful... I find that knowing how to style your hair properly is a lot more important than trying to find the perfect products. Thank you Mell 🌻🌼
Whenever I brush my hairs (dry or wet) I‘m loosing a loooot of hairs. Is there anything I can do against that? Btw. the Denman brush is also my all time favorite for styling 🔥
I'd been using a wide tooth comb to detangle my hair for ages because I always heard that was the best tool to use but I recently got that flexible EZ brush and I'm loooooving it. Also a big fan of the Denman brush for definition, it even helps to make my waves turn into curls!
Great video! I just recently started transitioning my curls and watched like 792 videos that mentioned the Denman brush so I thought I had to have it! Worst mistake. Stretched my curls, enhanced those straight areas. Ever since I've been using a wide tooth comb only, my curls have been poppin'!!
Please add subtitles for us that are hard of hearing or deaf, your lips move pretty fast so it's hard to read lol thank you for being accessible to all of us
Question: When I use the Denman brush to clump my curls, the top part of my hair always frizzes, even with a lot of product. Do you have an idea of why that is?
I would try just adding some water to the top part, which is what I usually have to do since the top of my head gets too dry really quickly! (Like Mell said in another vid, you should be able to hear the squish) Water and making sure to brush it all the way from the root should help 👍
"most sections should be the width of your curl" my hair can't decide on the width of its curl!! it can't even decide on its curl!# seriously, i have a section less than a quarter of the width of my little finger right next to a section the width of my middle finger what the f- and then the waves! right next to my left ear! right under a bunch of really nice tight curls! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME i also have a question about the shampoo brush - does anyone else have an issue using it? i put it on my head and literally can't move it anywhere
I completely understand you! There are parts of ny hair that make juicy, pump looking curls and then others that are like "yeah, no, we ain't into this curly business" right next to each other!!! And it just looks like I don't take care of it ;-;
Am I the only one that checked the playback speed?? I thought my daughter had messed with it. Mel is on turbo speed here.

Great video, Mel & Amanda! I’m a huge fan of pre-poo oils and dry detangling since I have mostly high porosity hair. 🙌🏼
Great summary
I love doing a pre poo oil scalp massage. Plus knots slide out.
Love your channel as well
I have low porosity hair, but I second the dry detangling. I can't for the life of me detangle when my hair is wet, so I have to wait until it's 60-70% dry.
Me: I don’t wanna watch a 24 minute video on hairbrushes but I’ll try it
3 minutes in: she is so fun I’m subscribing 🤣
I didn’t even notice how long it was! Love Mell
snap lol
Can we take a minute to appreciate her beauty guys?❤❤
The best brush I’ve ever found to detangle my hair on my most knotted days is the tangle teaser. It’s FANTASTIC!
Most thorough explanation of brushes on UA-cam . You went through every possible detail! Thank you for your effort!! The content you create is so creatively unique!!!
Mell: I thought you were taking a nap.
Amanda: I'm not taking a nap!
Mell: You wanted to.
Amanda, aggressive: I ALWAYS WANT TO, BUT I DON'T!!
same girl, same
That was 👌🏽 cracked me up. I love their dynamic together.
Would love to see a video on how to elongate curls and prevent “shrinkage”....
I know Deva Curl is in “time out” right now, but here is a tutorial on elongating curls. It starts at 2:43. Hope it works.
ua-cam.com/video/LFLCD12RKbw/v-deo.html
Lily_of_the_Forest time out is quite a bit of an understatement 😂😂
She already made a video on this, I think it was a few months ago now 😘
I love this!
I am a hijabi too!! This is a great idea!
@@sara.m88 ME TOO!! having textured hair is a pain in the ass
Maybe you can plop with a silk cap or fishnet wig cap to preserve your curls? :)
Just imagine the length retention you would get from your hair always being in a silk scarf!
I got my hair tangled in the round brush, when I was a little girl... That wasn't fun 😭
Omg same i was so scared i didn't want my mom to find out
We’ve all been there😂😂
@@ManesByMell Omg thanks for the reply 😍. That's also the reason why I avoided round brushes for the longest time 😅
I got my hair caught in an old metal fan when I was 10. I went from having waist length hair to chopped off!
i did this a few times, last time wasn’t even that long ago. i most definitely did cry when it wouldn’t come out. ended up ripping it out and probably ripped so much hair😣
Do you do it before you wash?
Thank you.
Ahhh the ribbon analogy 😱 OFC OFC 💡
I'm trying to build a routine and slowly getting a collection of products but I'm only missing a nice oil/serum at the end (and a leave-in but that's easier to figure out)
I highly recommend the curls blueberry bliss leave in conditioner!
@@RacquelMariePerez thank you! I just quickly checked the price (can't afford products that are too pricey currently so I'm living with 2€ styling creams and mousses lmao) but once I settle in my new home and can invest a bit more I'll definitely give it a try! I think I heard several curly UA-camrs mention it while binging curly videos, too. thank you so much ❤️❤️
I love the giavanni blackberry and coconut serum. A little goes a really long way!
Finally girl! I needed this 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thank you for this video! I got a Flexi brush after watching this and it has made a world of difference for my coarse, 2B waves to my daughters’ very fine, silky hair. We finally have no tears at bath time when it’s time to detangle!
OKAY AMANDA, I SEE YOU WITH THAT STRAWBERRY HAIR
“I always want to, but I DON’T!” 😂
GIRL! I’ve never heard of a pre-poo and makes soooooo much sense. You’re a genius, I love you. Thank you for saving my ratchet bun hair from now on
My life changed with the denman brush, I feel that my hair springs a lot when I use it....even when I just use it to have a better distribution of the products, my hair feels better
I apparently havent figured out how to use mine. I will be honest it's not an actual denman but it's the same type. It just doesn't curl 😞
I’m still getting the hang of using it but my curls have been soooo cute since I started
@@ashleesmall6458 I've seen a lot of videos of people using dupes, and they work just fine so don't worry about that, also Mell has a video of how she uses it, but while you learn it could be a challenge
You can also search for videos using the denman brush, a lot of different people use different techniques and you might find one that works for you (if you would like, I recently watched a video of a girl called Alexa's curls, she has a technique where she "fingercoils" with the brush, and it's kinda weird, but her hair looks amazing, so maybe look it up and try it)
Also, I've realize that the more I style my hair, the more the denman brush "works" (like, it gets more defined), so don't lose hope!!
Yayyyy this should be interesting 🙌🏽
Did you order the denman d3 7 through the link provided in the description?
I’ve been doing your hover over diffuse technique and game changer 💙. You’re one of the reasons i started my own channel for my curly hair.
I have learned so much! Once again informative and entertaining. Comparing using a Denman brush to curling a ribbon with scissors totally clicks! I couldn’t grasp how it wouldn’t just flatten curls. I also love the name “Spriggle.” So fun to say. 😆
I have straight hair and ive been adding protein to my hair after watching your videos and it feels so much better
Loved the video, Mell (as always)! Thanks for another EXCELLENT post. And ... btw, you look AMAZING!
so happy that I found you!!!!!
I second this!
Texture Tuesday is my favorite day of the week yayyyyy so happy woohoo
I started my curly hair journey a year ago and am still struggling getting curl definition at the root! Been watching Mell from the beginning and my roots are not curling. Love your videos mell!!!! 💕💕
Love the content! One thing: this seems sped up, and I’m watching at normal speed. It’s kinda distracting 👀
I was just about to comment this! Glad I'm not the only one who noticed
I was gunna say the same thing. I can't listen that fast 😅😅
I think it might just be spoken really fast lol lots of info to get in lol
Change the speed to 0.75 it sounds normal paced😂😂
@@UnderDog-by7gg thanks for that advice, it's much better
I can’t wait for Tuesday’s! I watch you every Tuesday and get sad I have to wait another week before another Texture Tuesday😞 I just love all the knowledge w/o being boring like some videos that speak very monotone. Making me falling asleep 💤 but you and Amanda always make your videos fun to watch!
My hair tangles SO easily, especially when styling with a denman on the back of my head... I've given up 😔
Most of the time I don’t know what to do with my curly hair but now I may or may not be binge watching you channel
Please can you do a full tutorial of cutting short curly hair ( layers + bangs ) at home ?
Because in my city there is no professional salon to cut curly hair and my hair need to be cutting
And thank you for your beautiful and helpful videos
She did a video recently on cutting short curly hair in layers. It's called the pigtail cut. It's pretty amazing!
Sara Elmorshedy
Thank you so much this is so helpful 😘🌹
Did your pigtails haircut the other day and my hair looks amazing !!! Luv u
Yes, so happy to hear that! Thank you for sharing xo
Thank you so much you don't know how many times you have saved my hair's life and my sanity!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!
The bloopers at the end are life tho 😂😂😂
Well, actually, I convinced him to convince her to buy it for him 😂
Update: I just learned I’ve been removing the removable part of my knock-off denman brush wrong 🙃
LOL the exact same thing happened to be when i was younger. so funny thinking back to it, like how stupid could i be? hahaha
Came for the tips, stayed for the jokes! (And the tips! 😉) You’re hilarious, brilliant, and fierce. It’s such a joy to watch your videos. Thank you for sharing your gifts.
Thank you so much for your comment! I hope you stay for more 🤗💖
Oh my gosh the ribbon/scissor curling thing explains denman brushes so well! I never quite understood how they work!
I've been dying trying to detangle with a wide tooth comb in the shower. I will definitely be buying a better option for detangling in the shower!
Me and my dollar store shower comb agree
Same 😭😭😭
Thank you for this!
I agree with this. Would love to see Mel tackle 4a-4C hair.
She copied our techniques thats why all sounds familiar!!
@@refi6438 that’s always been the case and always will. I see how she never responded, so I’ll be unsubscribing lol.
Everyone looses between 50-200 strands a day, it just looks like a lot because you don't brush your hair every day.
I have loose and curly hair. Its 2c-3c so I have to do multiple things to style my curls. Love your videos. Always learning so much
Gurl you're gorgeous that's all have a nice day 💕
Really liked that you guys added the feature of labelling the topic discussed in each section of the video =) very helpful!
I see those wavies. Pleeeeaaassseeee give us more videos on wavy hair! :((
I'd been using a wide tooth comb to detangle my hair for ages because I always heard that was the best tool to use but I recently got that flexible EZ brush and I'm loooooving it. Also a big fan of the Denman brush for definition, it even helps to make my waves turn into curls!
WAIT ITS ALREADY TUESDAY 😱wow
I genuinely thought it was Sunday not gonna lie lol
Owain H I mean at this point I don’t even know what day I thought it was lol
Great video! I just recently started transitioning my curls and watched like 792 videos that mentioned the Denman brush so I thought I had to have it! Worst mistake. Stretched my curls, enhanced those straight areas. Ever since I've been using a wide tooth comb only, my curls have been poppin'!!
Please add subtitles for us that are hard of hearing or deaf, your lips move pretty fast so it's hard to read lol thank you for being accessible to all of us
Mell it seems you know what I need for my hair everytime....you save my hair again 🤗🤗🤗🤗❤
Am I the only one who was sad when I saw Mell blowing out those beautiful curls? *crying*
Seriously your video are making me a better hairstylist. I learning my own hair and also applying this to my clients.
@@rebeccarizoreimer I gave away my Denman brush because it was frustrating me haha I'll get another and try this out. Thank you, Rebecca 💐

You have great advice for women of color with various hair textures. Thank you, Mel.
"most sections should be the width of your curl" my hair can't decide on the width of its curl!! it can't even decide on its curl!#
seriously, i have a section less than a quarter of the width of my little finger right next to a section the width of my middle finger what the f-
and then the waves! right next to my left ear! right under a bunch of really nice tight curls! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME
i also have a question about the shampoo brush - does anyone else have an issue using it? i put it on my head and literally can't move it anywhere
I completely understand you! There are parts of ny hair that make juicy, pump looking curls and then others that are like "yeah, no, we ain't into this curly business" right next to each other!!! And it just looks like I don't take care of it ;-;
Is your hair saturated with shampoo?
11:13 I use a wooden paddle brush to define my waves and im so glad I found this technique cause its made all the difference for when styling my hair
