Let's all take a moment to appreciate Jenny's awesome style of teaching everyone to Quilt!!!! Young and old alike have learned so much from Jenny and the MSQC Family since 2009 when the tutorials first began. Jenny's method of explaining things is so amazing, even the beginner quilter who knows little about sewing could learn to quilt from Jenny!!! Like a video I watched a few years ago that features her son Alan talking about MSQC and how it started, etc. Jenny has this uncanny ability to make you feel you can do anything you set your mind to. As Alan reminisced about his childhood & his mom and talking about moving to Hamilton and making a garden as kids it was readily apparent that Jenny had the amazing skill to teach others even way back then as a young mom of 7 children. According to Alan, Jenny told the kids they could be "Great Gardeners" and of course they were!!!!! All kids growing up need parents like Jenny for sure and ALL of us who quilt and love Jenny (and her family) need her quilting skills for sure as well. Thank you, Jenny, and all those who make MSQC what it is. We love you, and appreciate you more than words can say! Love this tutorial, Jenny!
I bought a sewing machine because I had kids that needed alterations. I started quilting because of Jennny. She made quilting approachable. Two sewing machines later I have quite the WIP pile and my kids love their special quilts.
@@kristine146 My hubby bought me a sewing machine when I was pregnant for our 2nd child (and our only daughter) for my B-day that year. I thought he had lost his mind because I didn't know how to even thread the machine. His mom had made shirts & PJ's for him as a child and he looked back on that time fondly of course. Believe it or not, we were living in another state when I was given the sewing machine (hubs was in college) and he suggested I call my MIL and he was positive she could teach me to sew! We went home that weekend and she took me to the fabric store and taught me a lot about fabrics and other things, how to work the sewing machine, etc.. When I would get stuck on something after our daughter was born I'd call my MIL and she'd be able to tell me what to do etc. to get the garment finished. I went on to make ALL of my daughter's clothing and our son's (we have 4 kids) shirts & PJ's over the years. (I normally don't make men's/boy's pants with zippers though) I started making Easter Dresses and shirts for homeless children in our county several years ago. I am so glad you are doing one of these every Friday! I have a drawer full of MS jelly rolls and also the big squares so I am trying to get them made into projects. Thanks 😊
Love this quilt. I've a lot of HST that I've saved from other quilt projects and I think I will be able to use them to make this a scrappy quilt. A good scrap buster.
If your fabric is not 44" which lets you make a 5" piano key border, just cut 4" or whatever to make a smaller piano key border. Great tutorial, as usual!

Hi Jenny. I’ve got a motorhome. And a featherweight. I’ve just found a man in America who makes a hand crack part for a featherweight. So I’m on it. The quilt is lovely and have followed you for years. Been to Hamilton 2 times. Thank you for your tutorials. Maybe I am getting slower, but seems you really rush through some of the instructions where we that are not as experienced could benefit more from little more follow thru details. Didn’t understand the two sizes one up And down since both 2 1/2 inch strips. Why would one be smaller ? Thank you again though and love you have your daughter and daughter-in-law.
I really LOVE this quilt! I've noticed you don't use the 'slots' in the trimmer tool. Isn't that so you don't have the 'dog ears?' Also can you show how to use a regular ruler to cut those HST's.
Yes. I agree. The majority of us have normal rulers and don't want to invest in the specialty ones. I do realize it is the company's mission to sell products and of course to show us different techniques. Which I am forever grateful for. Maybe show both ways. Thanks for everything you do❗
I’m at the stage of cutting the HSTs and can get the 12 smaller ones but can only get 3 of the bigger ones from each strip. Anyone else have this problem?
I felt like you were in a hurry today, and the instructions were a little bit confusing to follow. It's a beautiful quilt. Do I have to have the clearly perfect slotted trimmers or can I use a regular square ruler?
Hi, I'm a new quilter so I have a couple of questions. First. I thought as a general rule we are supposed to cut off the dog ears on the HST. Second, is there a method of picking which square you choose to use in the flip. Last question, do you use the same color thread throughout the entire quilt or do you change as each part of the quilt. I'm thinking about the areas .of all white fabric -vs- the colored squares. Thank you.
Personal preference. I always do as I FMQ on my domestic and try to reduce bulk whenever I can. For example, I would press these seams open because there are a lot of them meeting up.
I love this quilt and tutorial. however, I feel like this one is more complicated and you rushed through the instructions. it was harder to follow than some of your other tutorials.
