CHANGING STOVES IN A CABIN
Вставка

- I have a lot of work to do at my new cabin. The old stove is out and the new stove is in. But I realize that my chimney is very dangerous. Sparks are flying all over the place. This is the beginning of a long process. I want this cabin to be my dream place, so I am picking away at it and slowly making it my own. I take care of the chimney issue. I also fish and make bread and cook bologna.

Yes, the pipe is upside down, the smaller, corrugated end goes up into round ends!😊 Thanks for the awesome videos!
Stove pipe should always be installed with the "male-end-down". Installing the pipe male-end-down allows creosote drippings to go back down into your stove instead of running down your pipe onto the stove or floor.
Something you might want to consider once you have things figured out at the cabin is to eventually build a small shed-type building for the generators, it doesn’t have to be very big….roughly the same size as the box they are in now.
The shed will at least get them higher off the ground and have a door so it can be locked somehow to keep critters out.
Making bread: First know regular flour will only work okay. Bread flour is best. Secondly, let the bread rise for at least a half hour after shaping. Third. Do not cover your bread when baking. Other then that, you did everything right! Loved the video.
Also when baking in cast iron, I always preheat the pot/pan first. Just put the pot in the oven while you are preheating. That takes a good amount of time, then it will back fast. I toss the dough on a piece of parchment paper then put the whole thing into the preheated pan, I keep the lid on my Dutch oven for the first 30 minutes or so then take it off til finished
Totally agree on all of your points when using a dutch oven. They make excellent bread.@@nancysblessednest
I always thought you let it rise in a bowl with a towel over it, can it rise in a plastic zip bag like that?
@@ppodoentbeast I agree. Yeast dough needs air for the yeast to perform its best. Letting it rise in a covered bowl until double, then shaping it, and giving it another 30 minutes to rise again before putting it into the PREHEATED Dutch oven (lid on for 30 minutes, then off until finished) will give the best results.
Your bologna meal took me back to my child hood, but it was Maple Leaf. Delicious!
Very delicious
Jay I’m just so happy for you. You look wonderful on your shore fishing! Boy in a few short years look where you’ve gotten. You deserve it my friend. Just love sharing these times with you and all your other admirers. Enjoy every minute. Ottawa fan 🇨🇦🥰👵🐶
Thanks, Sandra. I love this comment, and I love knowing you've been watching me grow over the years. Have a good week. Jay
Yeah, I remember when he could barely figure out how to get a fire going. 😊 He did that firestarting challenge with @Up North of 60 and got skunked. Lol. But he's awesome now. 😊
That old stove looked pretty nice Jay.
The thing you "didn't know what it was" was an ash relief/removal grate to let expelled ash have a place to go, instead of smothering the fire's coals my friend.
Rookie mistake.
That was fun to watch!!! I am enjoying watching you transforming your new Cabin into your own!!! Cleaning, altering, fixing, and just loving every moment!!! You also got to do some cooking, and fishing!!! Awesome times!!! I can't wait to see more!!! Hopefully Crystal and Puffy can visit with you as well soon!!! Thank you for sharing your adventure!!! I appreciate you for doing everything you do Jay!!!
You channel is vastly underated!!! Your videos are very intertaining and the quality is incredibly good!!
It should be noted that the only time we hear the @Honda generator is when he starts it. Super amazing
Great vid Jay. Hope you solved the issue with the stove pipes. I know the seam on the pipe creates a flat spot. I've always offset the seams or didn't align them. That has worked for me in my tent. Double wall stove pipe is probably the best way to go, but of course, it comes at a cost!! It is safer, though! Thanks of the video!
I’m cracking up! “Walkin’ along..POW”!
Ha! Thanks for this comment.
You may have figured out your bread stuff by now, but for others who may have stumbled on this video late.. Bread needs room to rise and by squishing the air out of the bag you were effectively punching it down. It might also be a bit cold there, but a trick is to put it over the pilot lights on the range to warm it just enough. Try preheating your dutch oven either on the woodstove to save propane, or on the range, or in the oven while it's heating up if that's not a concern. It was probably the effort of getting that cast iron to baking temperature that slowed down the baking time. Definitely get a simple oven thermometer. Hope this helps somebody!
I am enjoying your overcoming the adversity left by the previous resident one item at a time
I know I like hot weather, and sandy beaches, but damn, that place is like paradise!
"If I was 15 years old I'd be lovin' this." 🤣 I know exactly what you were talking about! LOL
Love the laugh…puts a smile on my face, looking forward to what the cabin becomes.
Switching the stove out is a huge upgrade already. Once you start hunting and fishing there it’ll be tough to go home.
Can't wait till you pull down the window coverings! Omg....let the light in! Nice lil skillet mix.
Bread, I might be wrong but I don’t think it will rise in a ziplock. Best in a bowl with just a towel covering it and in a warm area if possible.
Two thumbs 👍👍 up Jay.
I could definitely live in a cabin on the lake. Fishing almost every day😊. Might get old but I doubt it lol. Great video Jay!!!! Looking forward to more updates 😁. Tyfs God bless you
Lots of work but it's the kind that shows progress. Makes it fun! I'm happy for you!
Pls Don’t go looking for a an open propane nozzle with a lighter for a flash light. Even a unapproved flashlight isn’t great. I am glad you chose to put the tank outside. Love the videos and glad you were spared in the fires.
All those years carrying bear spray and you have never had to spray? That is what we call a good thing.
It's better to have, and not need, than to need, and not have, right? :)

Thank that was fun. Cute little place…… we had problems wit smoke from Canada fires. It was really bad. So I know how you feel. See you next time. Take care. 💖🙏🙋🏻♀️
Jay ty for cooking and doing dishes, very everyday stuff lol
I loved this video. Mainly because you are finding your way. This would be me with the bread making. I've watched Luke on outdoor boys and his bread looks delicious but guarantee mine would not be like that ❤
Nothing but excellent content from you, Jay! Cheers from NS!
Thanks so much for this. Jay
another great video Jay its so good to your making the cabin coming along nicely
Love your videos and enjoy watching them. May the lord bless and protect you Jay and working on the cabin
Thanks so much. Jay
Good luck Jay👍👏👏👍
One of life’s greatest gifts is the ability to find enjoyment in the smallest of things. You seem to have a lot of that . I hope you never lose it.
Glad you fixed the stove pipe. My mom used to take chunk bologna and cut into cubes and fry. She then would add diced onions and bell pepper to the meat and fry til tender. She then would add can of crushed tomatoes and cook about 20-25 more minutes. Side dishes were always fried potatoes and drop biscuits. She called the bologna concoction slumgullion. It is really good. Just thought you might like to give it a try. Thanx for the videos
Delighted with the bread ! Feet on the path. I will be baking bread in camp this winter. Fresh bread and good Italian dish !! Oh yeah !
Great video. You're really enjoying the cabin!
Yes indeed. It's growing on me quickly.
I am enjoying the new cabin videos a lot .. cant wait till cold and snow ..
When we have put together stove pipe, we have always overlayed the top pipe over the bottom so that there is less leakage for smoke. Just a thought.
Stove pipe should always be installed with the "male-end-down". Installing the pipe male-end-down allows creosote drippings to go back down into your stove instead of running down your pipe onto the stove or floor.
real nice place you have enjoy that place 👍👍👍 thank you for the video
Jay your Supper looks awesome 😎
I've watched some of your videos
But you are a natural entertainer
I'll watch all your videos.

I miss going fast in a tin boat.... such fun times growing up. Not sure if you have one - but a chimney brush with the pole attachments are good for cleaning the pipes out. I do my chimney about every other year, as I don't get a huge build up of creosote.
Fun times Jay , Always looking for more😊
Hi Jay,I always like your vids. I know you will get it in shape for those frosty days that are a coming. Good luck!
Hi, great videos. I enjoy watching them. Next time heat your Dutch oven up in the stove prior to putting the bread dough in.
Another great video! Thanks for taking us along
Great videos Jay. I love watching work done on the cabin and also some relaxing moments fishing and cooking. Much love from Newfoundland and hope you enjoyed the Newfie Steak and potatoes haha. Cheers buddy!
looks like the stove pipe sections were put together backwards. The upper sections should overlap the lower sections as you go down. That way, smoke and sparks can't escape.
Stove pipe should always be installed with the "male-end-down". Installing the pipe male-end-down allows creosote drippings to go back down into your stove instead of running down your pipe onto the stove or floor.
@@fastcat351c1 Whoopdie-doo mister smarty pants. I guess you're the expert. Whatever the correct way to install a stove pipe is, I'm pretty sure you don't want sparks flying out of the joints.
Don’t be bitter just because I know the proper way to install a chimney pipe. No you don’t want sparks coming out from pipe but what I stated is the correct way to install chimney pipe. The seams of the pipes shouldn’t line up and 3 screws should always be installed in each joint. That will eliminate the open gaps and not allow sparks to escape.
Good thing you fixed the chimney
J is always happy and everything is always amazing. Ha ha ha.
Awesome 👌 Cabin will be a beast this winter !! Nice fix on the stove pipe 😊
Good to hear from you again in your cabin.😊😍🥰🤩👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯🗯💥💢💢💢
"I wish it was a Saturday I don't want to go home."
Yes. Every Sunday I'm packing up to leave the cabin, I agree 110% my friend.
My dad used to call places like the cabin a "white elephant."
Pike aka snot gators. It's true,an easy pike up there is a trophy in any of the provinces. Use your boat to angle trout my friend - those are some tasty fish, plain or battered, fried or baked you can't beat 'em.
They certainly are yummy. Tons up here.
Always a awesome time Jay!!!
looking forward to your next vedo really like watching them
I wonder why the chimney pipes coming up from the stove aren't fit into the ones above, on the inside. That way it would be impossible for sparks to make it out. It's like the whole pipe was upside down. I love the cabin videos!!
Keeps the creosote inside the pipes and dripping into the fire box instead of on the outside of the pipes and stove
Stove pipe should always be installed with the "male-end-down". Installing the pipe male-end-down allows creosote drippings to go back down into your stove instead of running down your pipe onto the stove or floor.
Awesome Jay. One refit at a time.
Thank you for the incredible videos, I love the new cabin! I got to thinking that you might be able to benefit from solar cells and a backup battery solution for your power instead of running your generator all the time.
I've been watching you for a while and I'm glad you got your cabin its a bit primitive but so what it better than the tent
I love watching you grow and live life on your terms!
Thank you Jay, glad you are so handy around the cabin!
Great video Jay. I love the cabin life.
I am thoroughly enjoying this content of you at the cabin!!! Can't wait for more!
So glad you noticed the sparks from your wood stove when you did! Whew! Thank you for sharing your cabin “fixer upper” adventures with us. 😊
Just started watching, not just the stove Jay, but those flat roofs you need to do something with or trouble down the road.
Nice video Jay , thanks for taking us along and thumbs UP!👍
Good stuff man! Really enjoyed it
Thanks Jay for sharing filming fixing the cabin great fishing spot meal looks amazing cheers Jay all the best fixing your cabin 😊👍
I really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks so much!!
Awesome. Thanks for commenting!
Awesome Jay your doing great on the cabin 👍👍👍
Cabin is getting there Jay. That Rapala fillet knife is handy. Glad you got your stove pipe worked out. Taters and fried bologna is a great camp meal.
Never realized just how amazing a fillet knife is. Insanely sharp and fast
Hi Jay I thought the fire was over ,so glad you fixed the problem with the chimney and it wasn't worse, stay safe out there
Nice video! It is a very intelligent thing to check with someone who knows and can help you with something you're not sure about (the propane oven). Also, good to see that you are "on top of" that spark problem with the chimney. Good job, Jay! Love to see you work your way through these little hindrances to your survival escapades! Looking forward to more cabin fixes!
Hey Jay. We have the exact stove at our cabin for the last 25 years. Never have an issue with it. The way we do toast every weekend is in the bottom broiler. Just turn it up on broil and place your bread in the bottom drawer, but watch it as it dont burn. Delishous.. Have a great day.
I'm really enjoying this cabin content. It's all sorts of different projects than your tents. I can't wait to see this place in winter.
Thanks. I'm really excited about -45 out there
My mom used to cut bologna into pieces, fry them up and then using water and flour and some seasoning she would make a gravy. It would be spooned over mashed potatoes. She called it smothered bologna. It was good.
You got your work cut out making look good but I no you will get it done 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇨🇦👍👍
Gotcha a trophy Jay, cool. Glad to see you out there doing your thing. That stove is a monster. This is going to work out great for you.
For quiet and just general efficiency, I would use the generator to charge the jackery. Couple hours fuel to charge it and a couple days to discharge it with your just using it for light and maybe the fridge.
Wow, Jay, that was really scary, and I could tell by the look on your face that it did indeed shake you up a bit. I thought you were on fire for a minute there. But you stayed cool and handled the situation, kudos to you. It makes me smile to see you so happy when you are working on the cabin.
I had that same oven in a past apartment. Everything took way longer to bake than expected. I put an in-oven thermometer in it and learned 2 things: It took 40 min to pre-heat and would regularly heat up to about 35 degrees (F) lower than what it was set to. Maybe there's a fix but never looked into it. Cheers.
So excited for you. You look so happy 😊It looks so calm and peaceful until your next video stay safe stay healthy and god bless 🙏✌🏼
All the best
I just found this channel & absolutely hooked already !
This cabin is coming along & looks great, can't wait to see more.
Welcome to the channel!
This is one of your best videos. You looked so at home in your new cabin! I would love to see you walking in the woods with your bear spray! That was a great way of walking…. Lol…
!!! Thanks for sharing your weekend with us!!! Hopefully we will get to see many more! Love from Colorado!!!
Awesome vlog 👌👌👌👌
Keep up the good work on the cabin love the channel great video thankyou for sharing it here from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
I loved the way you just unceremoniously dumped the old stove off the porch! Just DUMP! 😂 Haha! Those sparks were scary. But I was thinking a few screws would've fixed it. 😊 I'm glad you had a good time and I had fun watching. Looking forward to more adventures. And bearspray practice! 😅
Yeah alot more things to fix than your tent, but so much more comfort and safety. Very pleasant to watch like always, thanks and take care.
That roof access plywood would be better replaced with clear Lexan Either as a slide opening or screwed in like the plywood. Just a thought to add to your worklist 😅
Love how you added that little bit of music there, wicked spot my son you got there enjoy!
Save the glass door off the old stove. It would work great for an oven mounted above the stove, "inline".
I am definitely keeping it. I had the same idea!
Good video, baby steps on the cabin
Enjoyed this Jay almost as much as you enjoying the trip
Thank you!
You are a really cool guy Jay. Love the channel!!!
Love this comment.
They say to aim the bear spray in front of the bears head so it walks into a cloud of it. Always good to catch up with you.
Nice video Jay!
Lots of work ahead! Good luck, I can't wait to see what happens next! Kisses from France
Thank you so much!
Great video jay mon ami
Jay since you are into healthy eating.... you can slice up and fry hotdogs....especially in butter. Tastes delicious !!!
