Wind Ruined Our Plan, But Still Found FISH! Jacksonville Fishing

  • Hopped on my buddy Kevin's skiff for a mid/late afternoon creek session. Our plan was to target trout using topwater lures. But as soon as we got to the boat ramp, we were unpleasantly surprised by the 13mph+ winds straight out of the east. We headed out anyways with the new plan to throw other lures with the hopes that the winds would lay down later in the day, to allow us to still throw topwater. That never happened. Regardless, we had a great time, caught some decent fish, and had great conversation with a good friend. Doesn't get any better. Hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching!

Yeap, there’s a tiny little path for kayak launching on the right side of the main ramp. Once you’re in the water, immediately just start heading to the right and you’ll be behind the docks and boats, and won’t be in anyone’s way.

Hi visually, I recently got my kayak and have have been fishing in similar or thee same areas you have been fishing I use berkly gulp 4 inch swimming mullet and I twitch twitch pause it. I fish around creek mouth and oyster bars but I never get anything I see you getting fish after fish with the seemingly same technique. I fish at different tides and I fish in new spots. Do you have any suggestions? Could I use live bait and catch more? Sorry to pester you I’m just trying to figure this out.

Hmmmm, exactly the 2 weights I use. Maybe you’re fishing those areas wrong, based on the tidal movement. The first thing is, you have to make sure there is some sort of current, if no water movement then usually not much action. And different areas have to be fished differently at different tide stages. Like creeks mouths are better on outgoing tide. Keep your distance and cast all sides of the creek mouth, let the lure flow naturally like bait getting flushed out with the current. There’s lots of different factors and not all areas will be same. The best thing is, just keep trying until you final find a pattern.
But as far as using live bait, yes it’ll work better if the fish are there, and if it’s what they’re currently feeding on or at least used to seeing. Mud minnows and live shrimp will usually get the job done in most places in our area. Also, If you ever wanna join me on a trip, maybe we can set something up too.
