- Ok this was a really fun one, talk about insane technique and endurance. Holy cow. Totally been loving doing these reactions and when I find a guy like this it makes it even more worth it. Just wow! #reaction #metal #jazz
And you have to remember: This is a video of - one - song from that concert on that day. He's playing a whole setlist where every song is like this.
I know right 🤯the guy is unreal.
Imagine 1 and half hour playing like this
Has either of you seen today's drummers??
Got to see him filling in with 1349. Dude is incredible. Made the whole set look effortless.
Ya dude that’s one thing about him right, it all looks so easy….
Imagine keeping that up for an entire setlist. Insane. Enjoy the chill vibes of your videos :D I think you’d like Kenny from Imperial Triumphant (very different style from this though, he has a jazz background).
I know right and thanks so much for saying that I really appreciate it. I’ll add him to the list for sure. 🤘 I always wanna check out jazz guys that transition to metal, I feel somewhat of a kinship to them 😉😉
Def check Kenny from Imperial Triumphant and/or Jamie Saint Merat if Ulcerate 🙏
Kai Hahto from Nightwish/Wintersun has some jazz background too (well, at least enough that he can teach jazz drummers). Nightwish might not have the most physical songs for drummer, but his other band Wintersun is where they have those 10+ minute blast beat songs on a set list, that's where things go at times Dominator level. Pls check out e.g. Sons of Winter and Stars ua-cam.com/video/08_PduSKNWU/v-deo.html
@@yarpyarp85 Sein Reinert from Cynic is a jazz drummer
Every drum reaction youtuber eventually comes across DARK FUNERAL .... yes, this is the ACTUAL speed - hahahaha
Exactly….. 🤯🤯🤯💀
AMAZING MIRACLE
👌👌👍💪
React to Frost from 1349
Dominator has filled in for Frost a few times when Frost hasn`t been able to play for whatever reason
Dominator is from Sweden.
Is the name of the song “frost from 1349”?
@yarpyarp85 The band's name is 1349, and the drummer goes by the stage name "Frost."
Frosts main band is Satyricon as far as i know.
@@CL0179 It might be, but Frost most impressive drum work is with the band 1349 and not Satyricon.
Seeing someone discovering all my favorites bands and being amazed is a really fun experience and it brings back memories. Thanks Matt!
And another one you should check for sure if not already done is George Kollias - " Shall Rise Shall Be Dead "
Dude thanks so much for watching, it’s been a really fun experiment! He’s gonna be the next one for sure! 🤘🤘
So glad to see some other drummers finally react to more Nils. I do hope you will check out some more of his videos.
100% dude thanks so much for watching💪💪💪 ♥️
Dominator always blows me away how hard he hits the drums.
You should check out some Derek Roddy or Lord Marco, I’m sure you would enjoy them.
Meee tooo dude. And ya they are on the list for sure, lots of requests. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Brand new subscriber !!! You are a cool ass cat and I love how you clearly have a passion for the best instrument ever, can’t wait to check out moe
Yooo welcome my friend and I can’t tell u how much I appreciate that! 🙏🙏🙏 talk soon my friend!
When he plays live they have to strap his set down our he will perform vertical take offs that rival any helicopter that was in the original A-Team series... The whole time I was eagerly awaiting your reaction to the fill at 4:46... That was definitely the appropriate response lol It deserves a moment of silence for sure...
That’s crazy and yaaaa that fill was stupid crazy! Like legit unplayable for mere mortals. I was like 🤐🤐🤐🤐
We have a long standing tradition with a friend group of mine that at some point someone has to put Dominator drum cam on if we're having a night out :D
Hahaha I love that so much. Definitely a good way to get the party started orrrrr extended lol
Nice video again, man! Have you ever seen Lyle Cooper play Planetary Duality when he was in The Faceless? There's a famous video uploaded by TWANSONFOH and iirc religious groups have actually protested against Lyle / The Faceless because they thought he drummed while possessed. He has his eyes closed like the entire time like he's in a trance.
Oh man that sounds like something really great to react to lolol. That’s on the list and no I’ve never heard of him. Thanksssss! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@yarpyarp85 Gotta agree with the above poster on this one, Lyle Cooper is a drummer who seems right up your alley! Hope you enjoy him once you get around to it!
"The Faustian Pact" by the band Panzerfaust would be right up your alley
Thanks eh!
Hell yea, im ready to get my ears pounded by what seems to be a machine gun 🤣Kai Hahto from Finland and his work in Wintersun is quite something to behold. Jan Axel Blomberg (Hellhammer) from Norway is pretty insane as well. Also, Baard Kolstad in Leprous, especially the song The Sky is Red is very technical. Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree also falls in the more technical side but his precision on the snare is just out of this world. The last two are more prog then death or black metal though, so no blast beats really. Keep em coming!
Awesome dude! This is a great vid. He is so fast and those fills are so crisp- at a live show nonetheless! No comfy studio there! lol... Really impressive!
Well, now I can scratch him off my list! Here's a few others I think you'd like in rough order of what I think you'd dig (listed by title for ease-of-searching):
Kevin Paradis - Benighted - Nails - Exclusive Drum Play-through: Paradis is techy and fast in the vein of Longstreth and Spencer Prewitt. This video has some good shots of his single-foot blasts and has a blastbeat part near the end that always makes my jaw drop, even though I know it's coming lol.
Nithing - Of Those Immortal, Longing for Decease Playthrough: Matt Kilner does all the instruments in this one, so it cuts from him playing drums to guitar, to bass. He is so talented with everything. Bonus: The song itself is bizarre and a bit unsettling, which is fun for reactions! lol. Since it's one guy doing guitars and drums, I thought it'd be a good one to do if you have a jazz guitar or bass friend do a guest appearance!
Brodequin - Of Pillars and Trees Drum Tracking: The drummer here is Brennan Shackleford. His style is probably a little closer to our boy Nils, with super smooth fills that just slip around the kit in such a satisfying way. Also maybe you can comment on his push/pull technique?
Dude thanks so much for this and I do have a guitar friend who might wanna get in on a reaction! Thanks so much for these, I legit have never heard of them. 🤘🤘🤘
came here to see if you have reacted to THE Dominator..was not disappointed
The man is a legend. Had too 😉😉🤘🤘🤘
How tight his fills are and unrelentless speed, nils is the best black metal drummer.
Check Lille Gruber from Defeated Sanity...
You should definitely check out the live drumcam of MGLA playing Exercises in Futility V. Darkside is pretty ridiculous.
Oh yo I did a reaction to him already it’s should be in my video list. 🤘🤘🤘thanks for watching eh!!
@@yarpyarp85 I must've overlooked it. I enjoyed watching a reaction video that isn't 30 minutes long from pausing the source video every 10 seconds. Cheers!
Anthony barone is a maniac. He has a drum playthrough for the band beneath the massacre - rise of the fearmonger. You wont be disapointed.
Nice thank u I’m adding him to the list for sure! 🤘🤘
He is an beast
Totally. A freak.
His singles are the most impressive. Tmk he was one of the first to implement the style way back then in the middle ages..
O YEY DOMINATOR
🤘🤘
Germany masters Norway master race says hold my beer!
Lol
Would like to see you analyze Sean Reinert - Evolutionary Sleeper it's a great one 👍
Dude 100% hrs on the list for sure!
You need to react to Morgan Ågren playing with Fredrik Thorendahl from Meshuggah. The song is called Sol Niger Within.
Oh I know him but I never heard that. I’ll definitely check it out! Thanks!!
@@yarpyarp85 Yeah that's the one that's going to flip your wig the hardest. Morgan breaks reality at the end of it.
can you do a reaction to NYANGO STARR??
Who dat haha just kidding. Definitely a new name to me. I’ll put him on the list brother. 🤘🤘👍👍
Check out Lillie Gruber and David Diepold!
Sick thanks for the recommendation!
@@yarpyarp85 Lillie is particularly jazzy. He also writes other instrumentation for the band besides drums. If you hurry you can be the first to react to the new playthrough he released for their new single. Band is Defeated Sanity, Song is Odour Of Sanctity.
Awesome reaction as always! \m/ Check out Samus Paulicelli aka 66Samus. He's mostly a "meme" drummer now but he used to be in the band Decrepit Birth. He's an amazing drummer and I think you'd get a kick out of his videos. 👍
I’ve seen him around that’s actually a really good idea, I love his playing! Thanks! 🤘🤘
Imagine doing this, 15 songs straight, every night for a whole tour. Guy's a beast.
No I won’t and I can’t hahaha he’s a total freak. 💪💪💪
The stamina is nutzoid!
🤯
Metal as hell
Matt, you absolutely must check out Ryan Sinnott, the drummer in Rings Of Saturn. He joined back in January of this year, and he is incredible. Check out his playthrough of Senseless Massacre on his channel.
He doesnt play for Dark Funeral anymore, but I just saw him this year with 1349 and he hasn't lost a beat. No pun intended... 😅
He's beyond any logic behind that kit. 🥁
I have seen Dark Funeral live, and they play fast almost during the whole set. I guess others who comment here and have seen them would agree.
Ya it hard to believe he could pull this song off consistently let alone a whole set of shit like this! 🤘🤘
@@yarpyarp85 So imagine doing this for maybe 1 and a half hour or more on tours. I remember speaking with a another drummer who plays fast etc and asked, how do you manage to do this. He said, you have to find a technique that suits you and not getting tired, if not, your doomed.
Nils is one of the extreme metal pioneers of drumming.
Matt, you must check out David Diepold and his “Drums Only” cover of NILE’s ‘The Inevitable Degradation Of Flesh’.
Oh he’s on the list for sure. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@yarpyarp85 Thanks for the cool critiquing on your reaction videos Matt.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 the way he's reacting is so funny
☺️☺️☺️😉😉
Also, fun fact, I don't know if he still does, but he used to play his sets in combatboots for some reason. I am not a drummer, but that doesn't seem an easy type of shoe to play these fast double bass drums with. Talking about people with weird footwear playing drums, it always reminds me of Ken Bedene from Aborted playing in Crocs. I don't know Aborted that well even though I am from Belgium as well (Ken Bedene is American), but I do go back to the couple of drumming videos of Ken every once in a while. He makes it look like he is having a walk in the park. ABORTED@Divine Impediment-Ken Bedene- Live in Czech Republic 2018 (Drum Cam)
Sick and ya the shoes seem to be a big deal in metal. The thing I really don’t get is how some guys play barefoot…. Like the drummer from oceans ate Alaska, can’t remember his name right now but he is so amazing.
@@yarpyarp85 Chris Turner. I'm a full fledged socks on drummer as well :D
@@Naturalisti Are socks only for the benefit of heel-toe doubles like Evgeny Novikov?
@@Virvum_Juggernaut Totally an unintentional habit due to the culture I live in. We never wear shoes indoors here and my drums were upstairs in my room so 🤷🏼♂️
@@Naturalisti Fair enough brother. I just stick to my trusty Adidas Swift Run X for my Pearl Demon XR pedals. I love them so much I’ve got 8 x pairs.
If you want to check a really talented ambidextrous drummer, check out this guy: Travis Orbin.
He has a completely symmetrical drum set.
And amazing skills.
Love your videos. You should react to Hannes Grossman playing Alkaloid, Sebastian Lanser playing Obscura or any Matt Garstka song.
If you want more European drummers, check out Inferno from Behemoth. They're Polish.
There's a live drum-cam for "At The Left Hand Ov God" that's really good.
P.S. I've already suggested this guy to you. ;)
Hey dude thanks so much for the suggestion I’m gonna definitely do him soon! Thanks for watching and commenting my friend! 🤘🤘🤘
The theory is it's cold in Sweden so they gotta play this fast to stay warm.
😂😂😂😂😂
Hahah 😉😉😄
I'd like to suggest you give a watch to Spencer Prewett from Archspire. I think you might be pleasantly surprised.
Oh ya I did a reaction of him a while back. I loved it! He’s amazing!
He already reacted to the Lucid Collective Somnambulation playthrough a few months ago! It was one of the first extreme metal reactions on his channel. I hope he gives both Spencer and Flo Mounier another listen now that he's more accustomed to the style and can pick out all the details he missed, given the state of shock he was in experiencing those drummers and style for the first time!😂
his muscles must be screaming
Especially since he's not just playing a song, but a full set.
Righttttt Olympic level endurance!
Yes man totally, I wasn’t even thinking about that. It really is something else, these drummers don’t get enough respect for the insane athletic feat they are surmounting. 😮😮
And now song #2
🤘🤘
"This Nils guy"😅
😉
2 songs I recommend worth having listen to
Carcass (ken owens on drums )track called heartwork they started as British grind band that pioneered the goregrind music but as years went they dropped the gore type lyrics and used lyrics on the decay of society
Death (Sean reinert drums)track suicide machine
again pioneered the death metal scene and sound again focusing on horror type themes but again moved away from those lyrics on to more serious type lyrics of decay of society etc
Dude thanks so much I’ve heard so much about Sean and his jazz background I keep forgetting to do a reaction to him lol. It’s gonna happen soon for sure.
As a swede-
Its pronounced "Fyell-strum". The ö has an odd pronunciation for English speakers but that's the closest I could get. The "U" in Fur is a good active example
Also react to hellhammer- crystalized pain in decontruction drum cam
And he does it in combat boots too 😅
What? Really? Jesus.
Fi(end)
(H)ell
Strom 🤘
🤘🤘aaahhh lol I wasn’t even close.
Hi!
You should check out Kai Hahto on Battle Against Time by Wintersun.
And Flo Mounier on Cold Hate, Warm Blood by Cryptopsy.
These guys are a little old school but they are incredibly talented.
Oh shit that sounds awesome! I gotta check him out! Thanks for the suggestion!
Dave McGraw from Cattle Decapitation is an absolute monster that you should check out. Either his Dead Set on Suicide live video or We Eat Our Young live video.
Bobby Jarzombek, Eloy Casagrande, Mike Portnoy, Matt Garska, El Estepario Siberiano
Prosciptor. Why nobody reacts to him? One of the craziest Black Metal drummers.
I will be the first ☝️☝️☝️thanks for the suggestion!!
How about some metal-adjacent drummers? Matt Garstka, Zach Hill, Damon Che, Clay Aeshliman are all worth your attention.
Oh hell ya Matt’s gonna get a reaction very soon. I absolutely love his playing!
You should chgeck out the video "nils dominator fjellström - standard nordland" for his more recent stuff. He's insanely accurate. It's a more fun set too.
I'd like to recommend to you a Black Metal album. Sadly theres no drumcam's of it but drumming on it is insane. Take a look at Kriegsmaschine - Enemy of Man. Its played by Darkside /drummer of mgla/. You should check it out. Drumming on it is absolutely mental. Its probably the only Black Metal album that doesnt include blast beats.
I would love to hear Snarky Puppy cover this...
Totally!
Bet you didn’t think I was down with Snarky Puppy… I have a very serious request☝️However I must ask you if you are familiar with CANDIRIA? The drummer is Kenneth Schalk! And as much as others might appreciate the reaction??? I really just want you to watch the video for your own enjoyment…. This guy is unsung!!! And literally might be in the Eric Moore level of playing…. There is not much footage of him but I’ll include the link and it will tickle your taint… Absolutely no cheating and his execution is flawless and your taint will hurt trying to figure out how to find one and they are mathematical geniuses ☝️He is very trained in jazz and I literally know with in the first 10 seconds your mind will be happy as your taint in a super flux of awesomeness in a heterosexual way…. Flo from Cryptopsy had them open for them and when we had a conversation after the show he was like??? You know who I think is one of the best drummers I have ever seen? Yup…. Hands down this guy!!! Again I am not sure if the general audience would really get it🙄 Hence my Insistence to either do a reaction??? Which therE WILL BE FANS of but I almost rather you just listen to the live footage of his 21.01 length video from like 20 years ago lol… your life will be more fulfilling…. Jam it and tell me what you think? But it very well might be worthy of a reaction and because of the scant footage online I would suggest doing the first 4;45 of the first song of like 3-4… I’ll just include the link… GOTTA WATCH THIS ONE FOR YOURSELF!!! At the very least…

Do it!!!!!
Furthermore if you check out that video on your own? About 9:20- 15 20 into the video you will get his jazz techniques☝️🤘👌BUT YOU REALLY WANT WANT THE MONEY SHOT? Then listen to the end to 18:24!!! You will thank me….
You gotta check out Hellhammer (drummer) , my death - mayhem. Absolutely nuts.
Jazz drummer learns Dark Funeral next project? 🙃
💀💀💀💀🤦♂️
Check out his Myrkskog drum cams too, they are absolutely nuts.
Haruna from Lovebites
The phonetic pronunciation of Fjellström? Fjell actually means mountain and ström means stream. Mountainstream. :o But yeah, that pronunciation though.
In Scandinavian languages, which I think in many cases is closer to the phonetic alphabet. The "e" sounds like the "e" in "Ben", and the "i" sounds like when you say the letter "e" in English. I think in the phonetic alphabet, the sound is actually "i" or something. :p The "u" sounds more like "oo" in English, and the "ø" or "ö" sounds more like the "u" in American-English.
Had to think a bit. "bell" in English is pronounced very similar to "fjell", except it's "fj" instead of "b". The "j" is thin, I think more like Brits say the "j" in "jet", but it's probably even thinner, and almost like a Scandinavian "i", like in "fiat". If you say "fiell", you'll probably be pretty close.
Ström / strøm, the ö is basically the "u" in "duck" or "bundle". A very open "u". "Str" is basically the same as in "string". If you say "strum", you're pretty much there.
Oh and by the way, he plays this in leather BOOTS 😂
Dafuk lolol guys crazy. 🤣🤣
Lord marco
Yes I’ve heard this name a lot I’m gonna do a reaction soon. Thanks!!
You could check out Hellhammer from the band Mayhem, specifically the song "My Death" live drum cam. ua-cam.com/video/ycftqkw8h8E/v-deo.html
Look frost 1349 atomic chapel
🤘🤘🤘🤘thanks!
This time I do posses the authority to talk about pronunciation since this guy is from the same country as me. Problem is, there's no way I can explain the subtleties of how to pronounce an "ö" in text form. Just say "Fiellstrom" and people will probably give you a pass. "Fiell" say it fast and emphasizing the "ll" a lot, then a pause so long it borders on becoming two words and then "strom", also pronounced as fast as possible.
I tried to do this and my mouth exploded. send help
@@advuhbwejmn At least you didn't end up with your penis trapped in a fan, so my instructions were clear enough.
Hahahahaahh 💀💀💀💀💀💀
…..I think I dislocated my jaw…..
Seriously thanks though. I want to at least try and say some of these talented MFers names right. 🤘🤘
Their current drummer is even more faster. He is from Finland where I am from. some of the best drummers in the world come from Finland.
What’s in the water over there?? Jeezzz 😉🤘🤘🤘
Janne Jaloma is born in Sweden not Finland.
@@sayo443My bad. His name is so Finnish and I think I have heard him spoken of as Finnish.
Check the Nordjevel videos of Nils
"if this wasn't live, I'd say it's fake" hah me too brother me too mans limbs are anti fatigue machines lol
Right I might still be thinking it’s fake. Lolol the guys too good to be real.
"fyellstrom" is as close as you'll get, also said in one go. Not "phyellestrom" or "f-jay-llstrom".
Thanks!!! 🤘🤘💪💪🤜🤛
Nils is an amazing drummer, but he's a bit of a "hired gun", playing in a lot of projects and doing a lot of session work. He wasn't the original drummer of Dark Funeral and is no longer in that band, but I think he did do some session work for them even after he left back in 2017. He didn't write the drum parts for the song you listened to while he was a member of Dark Funeral, though, as that song was originally written and performed by their previous drummer, who goes by the moniker "Alzazmon." Nils brings his own technique and style to the performance, but the essential beats weren't original to him.
Alzazmon (Tomas Asklund) is currently drumming for another widely renown and staple of the Norwegian black metal scene since the early 90ies, Gorgoroth. Tomas has been in that band since 2008.
The most recent thing Nils has done was some session studio work for the Norwegian blackened thrash band "Vredehammer." I do love Vredehammer and was quite excited to learn he'd be on the "new" album when I first heard about it late last year. The album released a handful of months ago and Nils does have a video of him recording about about a minute of one of the songs on Vredehammer's official UA-cam page, but, unfortunately, that's all I think there is.
It's still quite impressive given that it is only a small excerpt of a song, but if you want to listen to the album it came out in 2024 and is called "God Slayer." There's also a few singles off that album up on UA-cam if you're interested in an audio only reaction or just want to give his recent work a listen in your spare time.
Checkout Spencer Prewett :D
That china sounds so good...
But yeah, Nils is amazing. It's a shame that so many of his recordings are on "true" black metal albums, so the drums sound like ass and are often barely even audible.
SWEDEN and now he plays in "nordjevel"
Nah. He is Greek.
You should probably be careful with mentioning the name of tne saviour when watching a Black Metal band, or you risk turning into ashes 😂
Hahaha 💀
And this us why ive stopped listening to metal, everything seems overplayed all the time, its heavy as hell while at the same time seeming light weight,no feel at all just hit everything as fast and as often as i can.
Sounds like a computer toy... so boring no feeling whatsoever ... just speed.. bollocks 😢😢😢😢😢😂
Nonono it’s just a style. Buuut I see miles Davis as you logo. ✊✊✊✊
you could react to another drummer playing for the same band in this video, Janne Jaloma. there's a video of him playing nail them to the cross live which i think has no reactions right now.
