Today we’re going to be polishing HARD black Audi paint. This vehicles primary way of being washed is the automatic car wash with brushes and you can imagine it’s in pretty rough shape. The customer wants me to try to bring back some gloss and shine and remove some of the damage but is on a limited budget and also will more than likely be continuing to use the automatic car wash. Although we did recommend they go through the touch-less car wash instead, for those of you that are in a similar situation where you want to try to clean up your paint without being SUPER aggressive on the paint, let’s take a closer look at how I would approach a detail like this.

This is a nice example of an enhancement. Daily driven work-a-day car that has a pretty nice turnaround. A happy customer is always the best. Nice job Chelsea.
Beautiful results I love that you are so considerate when it comes to different customer budgets and work with the costumers to individualize the services
Great video, Chelsea! Thank you 🙂
Nice transformation and message. Yes, sometimes a 1-step paint enhancement is "good enough".
Looking forward to this. I have a 2019 Mustang Bullitt that I will be polishing and adding a coating to it in August. I'm thinking of using the C6 Hydro Lite.
Fantastic transformation Chelsea.
Thank you so much!!
you are like a mad scientist --- and I know if this was my ride I'd be beyond happy with what you did. Shame they don't know about the mad scientist part of the job...
Excellent work as always Chelsea!
Great video. I have had probably no less than a dozen black cars in my day, but the Audi “Brilliant Black” is a next-level difficult surface to work with.
Wow Chelsea, awesome work! Such a big difference. Like you said, most people don't notice the smaller paint imperfections and just see the overall appearance.
Awesome job!!
This is truly good stuff!!
From what you started with to now is totally amazing
Superior is located about 20 minutes from me, I’ve been meaning to take a drive out there.
Awesome video. I have a 1996 black Impala paint correction coming up. The paint is original. There are swirls all over this car from top to bottom, front to back. I can't wait to get started on it 😁.
Wow 😮 🤯
Good job
3D one, Speed, LVR403
First and ready
Chelsea I have a 2010 black Accord, that I'll be using these tips to apply to mine.
Honda paint is softer so you could try the DIY Detail and gold waffle pad
@@attention2detailswchelsea My black paint is in decent shape however it does have some water spotting throughout. What can you recommend to me on removing the spots and really bringing out the black paint that i have that is still in good shape?
Great job and as an owner of a vehicle with the same Phantom Black Pearl paint I can attest to the hardness of that paint. Crazy thing is it gets swirls and scratches so easy.😢
Even if there's some deeper scratches/swirls left, the car looks so much better after the 1-step/enhancement.👍
I'm not a professional, but I'm only going to do a one-step on my own car to preserve as much clearcoat as possible. I've got a 2015 Mercedes with hard clear, and found the Koch Chemie F6.01 to work well with Rupes yellow foam when I did a test-spot. I also ordered the new Rupes intermediate pads - haven't tried that combo yet, but suspect that combo will be great as a onestep on hard clear.
Great work Chelsea, don't you just love black paint 😢
It’s a love hate kind of relationship
Try the lake country low lint wool. Less haze than the rupes. Great job!
I have an Audi q5 and her experience was like re-living mine. I had to go to a wool pad and mazerna 1000. The maguiars 1500 worked well too…BUT that still didn’t get all the scratches out. If I really wanted to get out the scratches I’d probably have to wet sand. Audi paint is very quick to scratch but a **** to buff out.
Nice result Chelsea. Have u tried Scholl S20 black or Angelwax Regenerate? They both do a great job as one step.
Yes Angelwax is another favorite of mine
Cool. I just polished the same type of car (Audi A3 8p 2008/09 Brilliant black LY9B). I used Meguiars ultimate polish with a yellow meguiars pad, speed 4800 rpm. Worked out well or should i say as my motto always is "better then before"
I hear the Cicadas infestation Wow at the beginning when u were spraying the wheels with Fe remover.
I would have had to do a 2 step. I know what you are saying. But I am crazy and would rather lose money. I can't handle paint like that. I guess that's why I am just a weekends only guy. Great video!
At least a two step on the hood since it's the most visible area.
@detailone978 I ended up doing that, but didn’t plan on it
This paint needs a two step 100% but I would definitely never offer that if they use a brush wash or don’t properly maintain the vehicle. This is when the new rupes teal/light blue foam pad is a big help more cut then yellow and finishes nearly the same.
I would've simply done a quick heavy cut compound with medium pad with rotary on hood and general door area. Then finish with a that 1 step.
I did not expect so much dust to come off on the first wheel rinse, that was cool. For Dark Fury, I know it's quite a powerful cleaner. Are there any precautions or areas you would avoid using it?
For Izer it should be safe on most factory surfaces but ideally a cool wheel and don’t let it dry on there
That paint looks exactly like my daily driver. Yes it’s shiny with glossy but it has tons of spider webs and I don’t care.I just want gloss👍. The pearl does show yes I’ve polished it with Lithium Seal and Squeal and I’m good
Great work!!
So I have a question... I know you, and lots of detailers, spend a lot of time figuring out what to use. Is a notebook (or database) of what worked on this brand, this model, this color, this year, etc. not something you could use.
It could help, but from year to year paint may change and from panel to panel sometimes paint can be different if it’s a re-spray from the factory or from an accident. You can find a good bit of data online and forums for a general start, but realistically the only way to know for sure isthat test spot.
Chelsea, when you have the shade canopy up , and it's windy, does it tend to wanna blow over ? any issues with wind much? Do you have link for that one?
I put cinder blocks on the feet and that helps but on super windy days I can’t use it cause it can be an issue tbh amzn.to/460UCTO
Isn’t one hour to complete the polishing process is quick? I’m always looking for a way to get the job done quicker than yesterday. Thanks for sharing your process. Cheers
For a paint enhancement that’s about typical for me on a small vehicle. It can take a little longer for a larger vehicle but I do typically 2-3 passes at a decent arm speed and stick to one step so can move pretty quickly
What dilution ratio you using with Dark Fury?
5:1
What size canopy is that?
13x13
Chelsea, I've learned so much from you. I knew a little about a little but there was a lot that I didn't know. I've always been too scared to touch my vehicles with a polisher. A couple days ago I started on my truck. I used the Griots Garage G9 and their correcting cream that you recommended in one of your videos. I've used a clay bar in the past but it's so time consuming. If you recall I asked a question about DIY Details clay towel in your video with I believe his name is Ivan. Well, I bought one and it's SO MUCH easier and faster. Also, per your recommendation I bought McKees Graphene Ceramic Coating but haven't applied it yet, I'm hoping to get to it this weekend. I emailed Nick a question and I gave you credit for me purchasing it. Just from the correcting cream my truck looks amazing, it's not 100% but it's a good 85-90% better. Thank you so much for the great content!
As a weekend warrior, it would have really hurt to send that car out without a 2 step. I understand your position, but it is the OCD in me when it comes down to that.
I use to be like that too. But I moved on. Chelsea is right trying not to remove everything. Not safe.
Weekend warrior here too. I could justify quite a bit of labour when working on my own car, but for me it kind of balances between:
- the extra labour is kind of not worth it if you have to bring out the Scangrip or bend down in funny angles to see the imperfections.
- I want some clearcoat left to work with if (or rather; when) I have to adress future damage.
-It's possible I'd do a two-step, but not for correction. I'd probably settle with 70-80% correction, and then maybe top it with a very light polishing-stage to get rid of any fine haze and to make it really pop from a distance.
On the other hand you have the curse of black paint. Luckily my car is dark grey metallic.🤭
Time is money and there simply is not enough clear coat to play with.
@@RojohII good point
That swirlled up black paint looks grey. How is C2V3 to apply?
Very easy to apply Ive reviewed it in the past
Is that the spta cordless polisher ?
Yes
@@attention2detailswchelsea what's your honest opinion, worth it or would the Milwaukee be a better choice ? I'm currently using the maxshine corded but looking to switch to cordless to a Milwaukee since my drills are the same brand with18 batteries
Very informative. Thank you! I saw you were using SPTA polisher in this video. And I just watched your review about Griots Polisher you posted 3 years ago. Do you prefer SPTA over Griots?
Lately yes because the Griots is making my hands tingly
@@attention2detailswchelseaThank you for your response!
Hi, I know. This is off-topic from this video I just watched the video with Ivan from d. IY and his wife Sylvia. I only got to watch part one. Where are the other two links for 2 and 3 Would really like to watch them.
They are in my library right after one another so if you search through my videos you should find them
Thank you for the reply
How long was this excellent engagement?
4 hrs
@@attention2detailswchelsea Awesome! It just seem like lot of work, but you being a professional and know what you were doing makes a difference! It probably would have taken me way longer than 4hrs!!!
I’m my own worst enemy when it comes to one step paint enhancements. I just keep going when I know I should be moving on
It can be hard but when you realize you’re giving away profit and time with family it quickly makes you stick to the plan and budget
The owner will need a full re spray in the future if they continue with the brush wash.
I told him that and recommended touchless moving forward
🙏🫡❤️
Yeah German cars have this brake dust buildup, it's normal and not very neglected as this much is generated over say.. 50 miles of driving? A BMW owner here - if u own a German car - Iron Remover? Your BEST friend
