The blue BMW looked beautiful when you and Yvan finished coating it. Thank you,
Thank you for watching.
I've always been impressed with Yvan and glad he has his own line of products. Of course you impress me too Chelsea with your "Attention to Detail"! Great job guys.
Chelsea is impressive.
It's awesome that the DIY coatings cure in only an hour. I don't have garage access and this is a huge benefit, especially in south Florida where rain can happen at any time.
Excellent.
When Yvan comes over I just throw towels away to get the Yvan "WT face" haha - great video
Thank you Eddie
Every time I watch Yvan I learn something...you have both done a great job on this car...I have aways wondered why so many recommend a wheel specific coating...thank you Yvan for clearing that up...makes perfect sense...
Thank you
The facts of the chemicals ties the process together. This guys patience and teaching ability is amazing. Chelsea just received a million dollar training lesson. She was a sponge of the knowledge.
Thank you .
Fantastic job, Chelsea!!! So COOL to see you working with Yvan!!!!
I’m loving these videos. So much more informative than other videos. I feel like I was there getting a lesson from Ivan himself. Can’t wait for the next video
Glad you like them!
Totally agree, loving it!!
Thank you
How lucky you are to live the Yvan Lacroix experience, really loved theses 2 videos, very informative, all tips & tricks are really useful and helpful.
I’m the lucky one to spend time with Chelsea.
Yvan is just an encyclopedia of knowledge and he really enjoys education. The coatings are easy to apply with professional quality!
You're very methodical, this is an awesome coating job!
Thank you
Hey guys, used the 5 year coating today.. Went on easy and levelled easily too. The 2 things I don't like is the rapid drops and that I can't see how much is left in the bottle. Glass bottles much better.
Other than those things. I'm happy with the product. Cheers
Sorry one more thing. I think the red applicator used too much product. I reverted back to a block and suede applicator
The orifice will be changing in the future.
As Chelsea mentioned, we will be using a smaller orifice on future bottles. As for the applicator, it seems to use more, but in testing ( lab and beta testers) all points to the foam using significantly less. I do agree that it does feel like more is being used though.
We chose aluminum bottles for a few practical reasons, if dropped they don’t break, and unused coating will last longer to be used on another vehicle.
@@diydetailofficialthank you for the reply.
Great video 👍🏼👍🏼 I'm looking forward to part 3 to see how interiors can be done more efficiently!
Thank you
This and the previous video has been the most informative collaboration with Yvan I've seen . I have absorbed so much information and I'm so glad this came up as a suggested video . Great work and thank you Yvan for passing on your encyclopaedic knowledge and thank you Chelsea, you have gained a new subscriber 😊
Thank you, Chelsea’s no slouch.
Nice video and great job well done.
Yvan is great 👍
Hmm some how missed this video.Yes Yvan is a legend. Great video Chelsea.
Not a legend in any way, just an old guy who enjoys detailing.
yes, enjoying. looking forward to the next one
Thank you
This has been very educational and fun to watch. Thanks to both of you!
Great job Great video Great info, Thanks 😀🪣🧽🚘🚗
I think you are right about coatings. This one included. They are fairly easy to put on. It's the prep work that's time-consuming and hard.
For me, it's the polishing portion of the detail that eats all my time. I'm getting better, though. Thanks for letting us tag along with you 2.
Thank you
Great job Chelsea! The circular motion would definitely be hard to get used to when applying coatings but I can see how it would help with high spots. You’re a lucky girl getting to work with Yvan hands on!👍
I’m the lucky one to have spent time with Chelsea and her family
One of the best detailing series videos I’ve watched in a while. Thank you both very much!
Thank you for watching!
Been waiting for this one!
Thank you
Great, great, great video! So much useful information, thank you. I always appreciate Yvan's candor.
Thank you
The Bimmer looks awesome!
So glad to here that you’re changing (upgrading I hope) the "dropper" system. I either starve the pad or it gushes out and floods the pad. Hope the new System/style works more consistently! Loved the two of you - watch you both on your own channels.
Thank you, continual improvement is the goal
Thanks again for another great video.
Thank you
Good video. More so for Yvan but I thought he said in a previous video the graphene wears off in a year. Agree about reusing towels. Often hear detailers throwing out brand new towels after a coating. I’ve always thrown them in a bucket of APC immediately and wash.
The durability of Graphene products varies. Our 3 year coating will keep the Graphene characteristics for the announced duration.
Really informative video. Thank you Chels!
Thank you for watching
Great informative video! Keep putting out content
Thank you
Can’t wait… Gotta make sure I’m up early for the premiere haha
Thank you
I love ceramic coating review!! 👍 👍 👍 👍 Thanks
Thank you
Great video ..Yvan is an amazing teacher. Love this series
great content. just found your channel awesome videos!!!!!!
Very awesome video ..Very informative...love it ❤❤❤
Thank you for watching
Excellent video Chelsea and Yvan I have more than 20 years of experience in detail and am still working on Pebble Beach car show and never ever use Ceramic Coatings in customer cars still use expensive car wax for thousands of dollars The finish is Better and Better and CC. Best.
Waxes still have their place.
Missed the premiere. But this was an awesome video! I like you can put it on like wax instead of cross hatching. Keeping old school method alive. Cant wait for part 3!
Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Chelsea try a gardeners knee pad/matt. Home depot has a great one made by husky. Nice thick cushion. Great video. Ill watch it a few times. I like the coating stacking idea of the 3 on top of the 5.
Excellent Idea, Chelsea is still a young woman. One day she will regret not protecting herself.
Another great video Chelsea! I can vouch for the 3 year slickness. It's like nothing I've ever fealt. It's just over a month and if I put my hand out the window I still constantly rub the paint because it's so slick lol. Awesome products from this DIY company!!
Thank you!
The only issues with doing circles is you can miss little spots and on white cars especially you'll never see it, you can go in straight lines and not stop but if you have vary good technique doing circles.
Thank you
Awesome videos!!
Thank you.
Thank you!
Looks good 😎
Thank you
@@diydetailofficial You're welcome. Did you say that your products will be available on Amazon soon?

Great episode Chelsea and Yvan. Fantastic timing as I'm using the 5 year coating on a clients car in about 12 hours time. One of the things I picked up from you is the faster than normal drops from the bottle . Like you, I'm used to a slow dripping bottle. Hopefully I don't overuse the product as I need enough to coat a second car on the weekend. The BMW looked amazing and looked super slick. Thanks again guys. I didn't have the opportunity to buy the ceramic gloss or quickbeads when I picked up the 5 year coating . But by the sounds of it I don't really need to to top it.
No, but it’s nice to have that extra cushion for drying purposes so I’d still grab a bottle. Ceramic Gloss is a Fantastic product.
Thank you!
Kamikaze sells a product which removes all coatings with minimal effort. For this reason, I won’t bother with any coating that boasts years of protection since I regularly maintain my car anyway. I’m a believer in spray sealants that are easy to apply
Kamikaze 5 is meant to be excellent at removing coatings which are nearing the end of their primary features
True
Great video definitely going to try this product. Can you apply this outdoor?
Yes
Fantastic video, part 2 was awesome
Thank you
I really need to try out DIY’s coatings now. There is a part of me that finds it hard to believe that applying that little amount of drops to the applicator each time can coat the large size panels. I believe Yvan and you but part of me feels that applying too thin of a layer will result in a coating thickness that isn’t sufficient enough to last the durability rating that it states. I could tell you initially thought the same thing. Maybe I’ve been unnecessarily over applying all my coatings this entire time 😅 I think I need to feel the slickness with my own hands in order become a believer. Gyeon Mohs Evo is immediately crazy slick, so I wonder how it compares. Also, did you find that the foam applicator hurt your wrist from the angle it forces your wrist to be at in order to make contact with the surface? Thanks Chelsea for putting this video together!
As long as your getting it on the paint, you have enough. Coatings that have you slather it on, you generally need to use many towels to wipe off, because they are absorbing the excess coating.
The angle of our wrist and hand are quite natural. You are also eliminating the strain of holding onto the applicator.
Great video series! Unless I missed this, I've always wondered what to do with the ceramic coated car when you feel you need to refresh it. Most videos start with a non-coated car. Does one need to polish the original coating completely off? And how do you tell it's removed? I'd love to see a video about that topic.
Normally yes you need to polish and recoat as the old coating will prevent the new coating from bonding properly
Wow that's amazing that it's a one hour cure time since I have been unable to use a coating since my car sits outside since my parent's car takes the garage
Game. Changer.
You can apply this outside if needed.
@@diydetailofficial Good to know
@@diydetailofficial Would this need to be applied in the shade and on a cool panel? Where I work is direct sun but I do have a pop-up tent however, the car still gets warm/hot.
What a great way to do videos. So much information all the way through.
My question is I started using McKees 37 graphene coating after your great videos and tests. How does the 5 year coating compare in your opinion,
Thanks
I would have to test them side by side to say. Would that make for an interesting video?
Both great coatings, you won’t go wrong with either.
That would be a great comparison video. I appreciate all the videos and information that DIY detail put out. For that reason I think I will be switching over. I have enough McKees for 1 more vehicle ( Saturday’s job).
I've watched the whole video, it's great as always. It feels like applying a ceramic coating is easier than a wax and it lasts/protects way longer. Until now I've done 4 cars all by myself using wax and it's pretty exhausting to do a car by myself. In the near future I will buy the 3 year ceramic coating for my car, I just have a question: after the application, is it mandatory to sit for 24 hours for cure time in a garage or can I let it cure over night outside for about 8-12 hours (hoping that it won't rain) and not wash it for the next 12 days? Thanks in advance
Correct it’s much easier to apply a coating than a wax. With DIY Detail Ceramic Coatings, 1 hour or curing, it can get wet.
I purchased a used corvette the previous owner had the front ppf and the rest of the vehicle is ceramic coated looks great in the shade but lots of scratches in the sun I believe the person put a car cover on it
What a masterclass - binged both parts - this was absolutely amazing. Thank you for recording and editing it for us. I do have a couple of questions that I hope don't take up too much time to answer. Can I place the ceramic applicator in my rinse-less wash or does it have to be the suds? Yvan said if you use rinse less you don't need to dry it? Normally after rinse less, I use a drying aid (some spay wax usually) to get the water ( ONR) off. Cheers!
As long as the product you use to soak your applicators and has a solvent in it then you should be fine. And you always wanna dry after using a rinseless wash to remove the residue and streaking. You don’t have to rinse it off, but you do need to dry it off.
Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to answer! Subscribed and can't wait to learn more from you!@@attention2detailswchelsea
Awesomeness!
Thank you
DIY ceramic are one of the easiest and best looking coating I’ve tried my biggest issue is the bottle
I think they fixed the orifice issues
Like the analogy Ivan used with the diffrent coatings. I do have a question about wrap or PPf (Clear Bra) Coatings are they diffrent then paint coatings?
Yes ppf is an actual plastic film that is put over top the clear and it helps prevent rock chips and scratches whereas coatings bond with the paint and don’t help much with scratches but do help with uv protection and make cleaning the car easier and help put a sacrificial layer on top of the clear coat. Ppf is very expensive to have installed and can cover up scratches on the paint. Coatings are more affordable and you ideally need to remove scratches from the paint before applying but it’s not necessary
Hi Chelsea. This is a little off topic, but I seem to remember that you did a video using a rinseless wash to clean your garage floor and it came out well!! I used ONR on my epoxy and it came out just as good. Question for you... my wife wants us to clean our interior vinyl plank flooring and is wondering if we can get them as clean as my cars. Ha Ha. Do you think this solution would work on interior vinyl? Thanks... enjoy your videos. Please keep them coming.👍 ..oops, failed to mention that this would be pre-sprayed, then moped with vinegar and water.
It might but sometimes rinseless washes can leave a haze behind if not followed up with a dry towel. So just something to consider
I def used alot more when I did the 3 DIY coatings on my Camaro, wifes car and my buddies new Camaro. Still with one bottle was able to coat 2 New Camaros, and half of my wifes explorer. If I wasnt so heavy handed I probably could have done her entire Explorer without needing to buy a 2nd bottle
Thank you
Where do you get the applicator that has the hand loop built into it? Thx Chelsea!
They came with my coatings
I just graduated from the Harvard school of detailing in only 7 years!
If you did a 3 year coating, after the 3 year do you just reapply or are there steps you need to take before hand?
Ideally decontamination and a light polish. After 3 years the coating is still there ( the only way to remove our coatings is abrasion). The characteristics of the Graphene will diminish.
Could you use any ceramic detail spray as your drying aid
Technically yes
Where you get the foam applicator? Thanks
It came with the coating
I’ve got a question, how long can you keep an opened bottle of coating for? Like I understand you can do multiples cars but how long. Thanks
If sealed tight and in temperature controlled space normally 4-6 months but some it could be a few weeks. Depends on the coating and if you had the top off a lot during application
Hi i love that applicator how can i get it
They sell it on their site
You might let Yvan know the label on the Graphene coating bottle has Graphene misspelled.
He already knows. I actually have a collectors item because of it. He said seven different people saw the label and totally missed the typo. Future bottles will have it spelled correctly but that’s why he said in the video graphene or rather graphine 😂
We actually mentioned Graphine coatings in the video.
Hi, new here. I have a black truck and can’t decide if a ceramic coating or a spray/sealant, like Flex Wax type product is the way to go for protection. My truck is a daily and is always outside.
How frequently do you wash your vehicle? What does your maintenance normally look like?
What concentration of APC do you put the towels in for reusing?
2-4 oz in a 5 gallon bucket with maybe 3 gallons of water in it
Whats the best lighting conditions to use an inspection light to see swirls? Bright sunlight? total darkness? or something in between? ty
I prefer either sunlight or a swirl finder light with minimal lighting.
@@attention2detailswchelsea great thanks. I have a white car and it’s very hard to see swirls. So I guess it doesn’t have any 👍🏻
Can you use the coatings on windows?
Yes!
How long do you have to wait to apply the 3 year coating on top of the 5 year coating?
I believe 2 hrs
2 hours minimum, 8 hours maximum
@Atention 2 Detail & @1 st from Puerto Rico & @Detail Business academy , Heloo!!😅😅
Hello, thanks for watching.
Yvan: Can you expound a little more on the "self-cleaning" ability of the 8 year coating? Does that speak to the slickness where dirt won't stick and when it gets wet everything just rolls off? Seems like that's the nature of all ceramic coatings so I'm guessing you mean the 8yr just takes it up one notch more? Thanks!
I'd love to see an 8yr coating on any car. After a year, most daily drivers are in need of at least a paint enhancement. 8 year coating will not change any of that and it's pretty much useless after a year.
Yes, it is designed specifically with that in mind, it’s not impervious to dirt, but rain does a good job of removing most dirt, leaving a little traffic film.
I am working on editing a video for the 8 yr coating but just saw the customer today 3 months after coating and can attest the one remark he said is the car rarely gets dirty and is SO easy to clean and he’s LOVING it.
What's a low nap towel?
Low gsm towel
So can this b applied in a mobile setting?? Direct sunlight
Yes, but working accordingly.
@diydetailofficial u mean in a 2by2 like the rest of the industry I can't do half the car like ivan!! I feel like Ivan can do a bus in a hour!! 😆 I
How long do you have to wait before you put the 3yr over the 5 or 8 yr coating?
2 hrs to top
2-8 hours
On the topic of a topper… Doesn’t the topper “hide” the characteristics of the coating? Just curious…
Not all degrade a coat, some enhance it.
I was surprised to hear no iron remover for the decontamination process.
We used it with the clay towel after the contact wash. It was done and highly recommended
It was done in the part one Video.
I'm sorry, I was not clear in what I was asking. The decontamination wash after the coating has been on 3 or 4 months.
@@usa1camaro377 there’s no special wash needed. If you live in a salt belt area, simply give it some DIY Detail Water Spot Remover if you notice the beading is off.
sorry but what was the coating used
The 5 yr coating. We were going for gloss
@@attention2detailswchelsea thanks
Every new video Yvan is in shows him sporting a new company heh.
I have respect for him as he is very very knowledgeable, but this video didn't have any good practices for applying or removing coatings.
How are you checking that every inch has coating product? light paint vehicle is harder to see
How are you checking that solvents aren't leaving streaks?
How are you checking that no high spots are left? Yvan talks about circular motions preventing high spots, but leaving coating on the car is a high spot.
or is worrying about the above going to not make coating application simplified?
Thank you, even though I own DIY Detail, I’m also a fan of other brands. Chelsea has many videos that go over the points you mention.
The coating itself being easy to use can help simplify the process but to answer your questions I use in most coating videos a diffused light source to examine for high spots and that is my best tip. Really makes coatings so much easier and enjoyable.
So my question is.
For example. A client shows up out of no where. And askin for a regular wash the paint is not protected at all.
Another client show’s up with a car that it’s been coating. So the question is
How mush will you charge for non coating and coating car
Hand wash for vehicle starts at $50-$75 for coated or non coated car. Doesn’t included a decon or premium sealant, just a topper or drying aid so if customers want more durable protection then they need to request my wash, clay and wax and that starts at $150. Most coated cars only need the $50 hand wash, most non coated cars end up with the wash, clay and wax
No interior correct. Only wash ?
I thought that for the sides, we can't go over the trim with ceramic. Yvan seems to just go over everything.
You can do paint, headlights, trim, wheels, even glass
@@attention2detailswchelsea is that with any ceramic coating or just diy stuff? Thanks
@@salman13it will depend on the coating you use. Ask the manufacturer as they are all different.
Where's the red carpet?
In the bus.
They tested 16 separate coatings with Chicago autopros and NONE of them lasted (charateristic-wise) past 1 year mark. So not buying the 3/5/8 year marketing...
You also have to understand that Chicago is mainly highway driving and their roads suck. So that is an extreme environment for a ceramic coating. I have seen many coatings last well over two years when properly maintained in mild climate. It really is dependent on where you live and how you maintain the vehicle.
Coating do last if maintained.
First!!!
