    I believe this is specifically a parody of the Kevin Costner movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, but it covers the general Robin Hood story.

    • @agenttheater5
      @agenttheater5 3 роки тому +8

      was that the one they were referencing when he said "Because, unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent" (raises eyebrow), or was that the one they were referencing where King Richard said he should kiss the bride (was that King Richard played by the late Sean Connery? I get confused sometimes)

      "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" is the exact title being spoofed; the OG basis for Achoo was played by Morgan Freeman too. And iirc Christian Slater too

    "The Patriot Arrow" is a reference to the Patriot Missile. The Patriot Missile was in the news back when this movie was made for its' use in the Gulf War. On a basic level, it's a missile that uses radar to pinpoint its' intended target.

    A couple of things. The hangman was the same actor from Blazing Saddles, Mel Brooks' line "It's good to be the king," is a direct reference to his earlier movie History of the World Part I where he played King Louis XVI (which you should watch), and Robin Hood's line about speaking with an English accent was a direct slam of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.

    Please check out 'The Princess Bride' it also stars Cary Elwes (Robin) and once again he's hilarious and a total Badass! It's less ridiculous than 'Blazing Saddle' or this movie but it's still a fantastic and probably more iconic movie! I don't think you'll be disappointed! Can't wait to see what you react to next! Back in the 70's Mel Co-created a ROBIN HOOD tv series called WHEN THINGS WERE ROTTEN. Dick Van Patton played Friar Tuck on that show. He returns here as the priest whose staff hits the camera. Also, Robert Ridgley who played the medieval hangman in this and Blazing Saddles, guest-starred as the same hangman on one episode of WTWR.

    If you enjoyed Cary Elwes as Robin Hood in this, then I recommend The Princess Bride as well, if you particularly like comedies. On a more serious tone, he did a film with Helena Bonham Carter called Lady Jane that is absolutely fantastic but it isn't a comedy, but rather a pretty serious story about England's Nine Days Queen, Lady Jane Grey. It's one of my personal favourite films though, so I recommend it anyway, despite it not being a comedy.

    My favorite movie of all of the Mel Brookes movie... Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein are two of the other movies I watch at least twice a year... Space Balls was one of my least favorite movies, but, princess Vesba was bad ass... Glad you enjoyed the movie...
