    I really like Orijen I use the exact ones you showed. A 22 pound bag lasts me almost 2 months for a 60 pound Australian Shepherd.
    ***Remember it’s more nutrient dense than the cheaper stuff, so you feed less. I feed my boy about 1 1/2 cups/ day. He’s doing great. He loves the food. You can actually smell the difference- smells like food. Yes, it’s expensive, but I’d rather pay for the food, than pay vets. I do without something else to buy it. I don’t work for Orijen or get paid to say nice things about this food(I wish). It took me awhile to find a good kibble. My dog’s coat is beautiful- thick and shiny. That tell’s me a lot.

We cook chicken livers,gizzard ,whole whole raw egg, sweet potato & mix with the orijen. My dogs 52lbs of pure action. Hits a sleeve like a 100lb American Bulldog. He's been on it his whole life. Perfect coat & a high drive athletic dog. But it cost me probably about 500 a month to feed him & 2 patterdale /Manchester mixes. I have no kids. I got multiple streams of income & so does my wife so it is what it is. What I spend in feed & supplements I save 10 fold in vet bills

    I’m not only concerned about the ingredients in the kibble, but how it’s processed. Unless the bag states it’s oven baked, it’s extruded. I prefer to give my dogs the least processed foods I can. And I and Love and You is a brand that offers oven baked kibble prepared in small batches, and the ingredients are really good as well. I also like that it’s coated in dehydrated bone broth, which encourages adding water to the kibble and making it tastier for my pups. I have mixed it with freeze-dried raw to boost the protein content, as kibble will usually have more carbs than anything else. I am slowly getting my dog off dry food tho - and I am switching to a mix of dehydrated and freeze-dried raw.

    WATSUP! Love the vids bud! So my American Bully is Standard Lilac TRI great pedigree..dual registered.. amazing bloodline. He is 5 just turned 5. I have had to go through so much cash and headaches to find him a great food man oh man. Before I bought him I planned on feeding him raw and I did but I didn't have the best insight on how to do so I started switching it up buying store bought Instinct brand Raw..that got expensive and it sucked having to unthaw beforehand and I began to believe it was dangerous. Anyways I switched from kibble to kibble throughout the years landed on bullymax for 2 years then after more research I didn't feel he was getting the best so I switched to honest kitchen which he loved but no gains actually lost weight switched to Stella and Chewy kibble got some weight gain but he was losing that super dope shiny coat and was getting those teary eyes more often. Just made the switch to Orijen w grains and no more teary eyes great soft coat amazing color is back but still am not seeing gains. But I love this kibble and I make my own topper (Organic bone broth, organic pumpkin, EVOO, a lil tumeric, a lil black pepper, and a lil cinnamon) I heat it then let it cool down to pour over kibble.
    I'd love to hear any advice or comments you would have for me and also would it be safe and would I see gains if I started giving him the NuVet pills I see in your vids? I want you to understand I am not in the breeding game I just absolutely love my bully and want him to live a very healthy Lifestyle and a long life. With feeding him Orijen and my homemade topper he's getting a great nutrition in my opinion and zinc is the only additive In orijen.. I'm saying this bc I don't want to have too much of a good thing by adding the supplement from NuVet you recommend. You think? Thanks bull fam for your contribution to our Bully society!!! 🤜🤛 P.S. Has any of your dogs experienced INTERDIGITAL CYSTS?...it's like swelling between the front paw toes. My vet prescribed cephalexin and I used it when he was still on Stella Raw coated kibble but since I switched to Orijen they seem to have gotten noticeably better but not gone. Any advice?

    One 120 pound presa canario will through one 22 pound of orijen, in about 20-25 days, just shy of a month. I made the switch to essence because it's a 25 pound bag, and priced about the same; maybe even better quality as well, it's just hard to find.

  • @GreatNorth_Carnivore
    @GreatNorth_Carnivore Рік тому +42

    Both Orijen and Acana were acquired by Mars Inc. You can bet quality will go down to allow for bigger profits. I like to use the salt divider when checking ingredients. Anything listed AFTER salt is less than 1% of that ingredient in the bag. Synthetic vitamins are all very iffy and unfortunately only a couple brands out there don't use them, Carna4 and Natures logic. If you can't feed raw and have to feed kibble those are the best two options.

      @@GreatNorth_Carnivore. I woke up one of my boys who had completely turned his kennel into a swamp. He was so embarrassed and ashamed that he didn’t hold it in over night. After that both my dog’s rear ends were faucets for a week. After vet fees, stool samples, anti biotics, just to hear that there was no infection or nothing to diagnose. It had to be diet related. After the probiotics, I gave them another scoop of Orijen. And the diarrhea returned. So Orijen was definitely the cause.

    A 22 lb bag of Orijen is NOT the same as a 22 lb bag of other kibble. Orijen is way more nutrient dense, so you dog has to eat less kibble to get the same calories and nutrients. If you fed your 100 lb dog that entire 22lb bag of Orijen every week, your dog is going to get fat as hell, haha. Keep that in mind when you're looking at the pricing versus cheaper kibble with lots of filler.

    Orijen is the best aside from feeding raw. Also, I notice you’re selecting the bags that say Amazing Grains. They have grain- free versions where more than half those ingredients are not in it. Making it much healthier. Yes, it’s a little pricey but Petco has a program where you buy 9 bags and get a free 10th bag. Also, it’s all about how important your dogs health is to you I suppose. I feed my two cats and XL bully Orijen wet and dry food. Wet in the morning, dry at night. You should check out the ingredients of the wet food as well. I think if one were feeding raw, this dog food might not be a bad option if they had to board their dogs, were traveling, or were in a situation like the hurricanes hitting Florida, where getting actual raw might be difficult or inconvenient. Is this the wrong kibble since he is technically under the recommend 70# minium? If I feed the proper amount for his size (40-60# ratio) is there any foreseeable issues?

    I have a 100 lb DDR Shepherd as a working dog. She has been fed Orijen all her life. She will be 10 years old in a couple of months but you wouldn't know it by her health and energy level. She only eats 2 cups of this food daily which means a 28 lb bag last for about 5 weeks, so I believe your estimate of 4 bags monthly is a bit off. You can find Orijen at much cheaper prices at other businesses. I only pay $87/bag for Orijen Fit & Trim. Unfortunately, since Mars has acquired this food, I will be switching because they will more than likely change to less desirable and cheaper ingredients.

    "100lb dog would go through a 22lb bag in about a week"......LoL! C'mon man, I know you are against kibble, but that bag would last a month at the minimum if you are feeding according to the recommended amount from the manufacturer. Most people vastly overfeed their pets, so, stick to the recommendation and exercise your sweet babies!
    Now with that said, I have no doubt that feeding your dogs a raw diet that you put together is better overall than kibble. But, those of us who are trained K9 Handlers (former Gov't K9 Handler here) can attest that all of the Gov't dogs are on kibble, and they are straight up athletes, working harder than most people do every week, and they thrive on kibble and live long happy/healthy lives. This kibble looks amazing IMHO and I might just give it a try at some point. I'm currently switching to Open Farm GoodBowl, which isn't as top end as the Orijen, but it's very high quality for about half the price.

    Re your comments on feeding Orijen to a 100 lb dog--to say that a 22.5 lb bag would last 1 week is WAY off the mark. A 22.5 lb bag contains around 88.5 cups of food. Using that bag in a week would be feeding over 12 cups a day. The recommended feeding guideline is around 4 cups/day for a 100 lb dog depending on activity level. A 22.5 lb will last a 100lb dog around 3.5 weeks. I fed Orijen for years, but have dropped all Champion products since their sellout to Mars 'Petcare'. I now feed a 50/50 mix of First Mate dry, and Big Country Raw.
