I have tried Carna4 and for the price. In my opinion. You shouldn't have to add anything as a topper. To be honest. My dog hates it. Eats everthing around that food. So I wasted $150. I can't even drown in liver topper. To get her to eat it.
From a Puppy I have fed her Origen. She eats it. Ya some days I add toppers. Still a lot cheaper than Carna4.
Recently I tried Stella and Chewy's Raw Blend. My dog actally bumps her nose on the bag. To tell me she's hungry. I put the food in the bowl, no toppers. She inhales it.
So we can try and stuff what we want. Down our animals throats. But if they won't eat it plain. Whats the point in buying it?
So in short. I'll never buy Carna4 again. Cause my dog doesn't like it.
Origen, I would buy for sure. My dog likes it. I have a very health and trim dog, because of their food.
Stella and Chewy's Raw Blend? My dog loves it.
Maybe I mix it, with the 1/2 bag of Carna4 I'm stuck with. Hopefully she'll eat it.
I'd love to see dog food reviews. Maybe show dogs eating the products. That they are boasting about. Cause to me, that's the most important, imho.
      Funny fact.
Every time I drive by the Origen factory. When I'm 1/4 mile away. My girl has her upper body out the truck window. Nose in the air and smiling.

I'm from Wisconsin and work for a pet store and I had the chance to visit the Stella and Chewey plant and let me tell you they are serious about their pet nutrition! They are so careful with their products they scan every package of food for metal contamination, they clean their machines daily, and they will tell you exactly where their ingredients come from if you ask! I highly recommend them if you're not trying to go the crazy expensive route! I will also add that Fromm has no form of customer care and used to have extremely shady business practices, they are working on it but don't be fooled!

Both of my pets gained a lot of weight on it. even if I cut their portions very small. And then they’d feel hungry all the time because the portions were so small! Maybe if you have an underweight animal I’d recommend it lol. They’ve eaten all kinds of different fresh food, canned, and kibble and nothing made them pack on the pounds like Fromm.

When we brought home a tiny 12 week old puppy a few years ago she refused to eat any commercial pet “food.” I went searching online for information on pet food. The pet food corporations provide zero information about where they source their ingredients or how those ingredients are processed. I did finally find Susan’s website and found some other interesting sites.
People should take note that over the past 50 years over 60% of industry in the US has changed from being owned by individual companies to being owned by mega corporations that own multiple entities of various types of industries. These huge corporations have a huge amount of influence on just about every aspect of our lives. Most importantly, they have been able to “buy” influence in all the major political parties as well as so many other influential entities. Money IS power. It is these “special interests” who pay the majority of the expenses for major political campaigns. Illegal? No. We have laws about campaign finance contributions but then there are also the “super pacs” that can be formed that are not effected by those laws. It’s a huge hoax on the American people. We have the appearance of fair elections but the fact it that these “special interests” have been telling us who we get to vote for over the past several decades. Government agencies have gotten so huge and out of control that it is now the agencies that make the rules rather than the elected officials that supposedly protect the people. The FDA is a major offender. It is the billion dollar pet FEED industry that tells the FDA what ingredients they will approve and how processing will take place. Pet food is actually classified as feed and you better know that the livestock that you consume is nothing like the livestock that Americans consumed 50 years ago. They are now confined in filthy buildings making antibiotics, hormones, and other “medications” necessary on a regular basis. Steroids are used to bulk up the animals and slow down certain diseases. Genetically modified grains (that are banned in most other civilized countries) are fed to the livestock instead of the grass that animals once consumed NATURALLY. All these chemicals and “medications” stay in the flesh of the livestock and we and our pets consume it. You will not find a wild animal with cancer or heart disease unless it has some source of human or pet feed. If your pet itches a lot and you cannot find the source....many of the antibiotics used on livestock cause allergic reactions in dogs. Those antibiotics, along with many of the other dangerous medications, remain in the flesh of the livestock and can effect those who consume it. The commercial “food” that pet owners feed their pets have had the natural nutritional value cooked out of it. But even before that these corporations use the lowest quality ingredients. Yes, those blueberries may be in there but those are the berries that were squashed and rotting and the human food companies could not salvage. The “meat” is actually the lowest quality parts of the animal that has sat long enough to be foul. Animals that died before slaughter and diseased animals are just a couple of the horrid things approved by the FDA for pet “feed.” Other low grade organic materials are also approved. This is just one of the reasons that the ingredients must be cooked at such high temperatures. There are high quantities of harmful bacteria in those ingredients. The scam on the American people and their pets goes on and on. If you took the time to read actual proven facts on Susan’s website: truthaboutpetfood.com you would hardly believe your eyes. There are other sites available as well but Susan has taken the time to attend the actual pet food association meetings with the FDA and has the firsthand information.
I began cooking food for our little puppy. It turned out she knew what was best for her because that kibble that we had tried to feed her was garbage even though it was sold as a “high quality” pet food.
The pet food industry’s number one concern is the bottom line that the board of directors see. They want “feed” that can be easily transported and that can sit on a shelf in a storehouse and in the store for months and even years.
Most of those synthetic vitamins and minerals used to bump up the nutritional value of this over processed garbage are processed in China. Because vitamins and minerals are not considered actual food that fact does not have to be disclosed. Most human supplements sold in the US are the same deal. Processed in China. China has the lowest paid labor force in the world (with India and other third world countries not far behind) and can under bid any western service. Much of the frozen fish sold in the US is now processed by China out on barges way out in the ocean. (Think about the human rights disaster that is) China was able to under bid and put out of business a large percentage of American fish processing plants.
Our pets, just like our people, are being slowly poisoned by these huge corporations that now control the food supply. You will not hear about this in the corporate owned media which is also controlled by these “powers that be.” Corporations that own pet food companies also own multiple other types of businesses. The American people walk around in an almost totally controlled environment. It is an environment made and controlled by those at the top of the corporate ladder.

taste of the wild is a high quality dog food but states nowhere the welfare of their meat last time I checked so likely uses factory farmed chicken. You will find wild animals with cancer and heart disease but due to natural selection there isn't that many. I live in the uk not usa but we have pretty decent pet foods here and around europe. Have orijen/acana worked for you? They are the only good brand I know thats in the us, here we got yarrah, lilys kitchen, yora and bozita. www.ethicalconsumer.org/food-drink/shopping-guide/dog-food talks over issues, I don't want to feed a vegan/vegetarian diet since I eat meat and I find thats a little unfair even though its more ethical.

Every single thing you said is truth and is so painful to me realize that I have been poisoning and harming my beloved dogs with this shitty products. And I'm so angry at the vets I've gone all this years because the primary interest on those mf is to sell their products and give a dam about the health and life of all the animals they attend. Sadly, Orijen’s formula has changed, and seemingly not for the better. A lot of the goodness is now listed behind salt. Further, they no longer claim 15% fruits and vegetables on the label, presumably because they can’t.. nearly all fruits and vegetables are now listed behind salt, leaving me to question the complete nutritional value of this product.
The Orijen puppy formula ingredient list as of February 2022 is now as follows:
Chicken, turkey, turkey giblets (liver, heart, gizzard), flounder, whole mackerel, eggs, chicken liver, whole herring, dehydrated chicken, dehydrated turkey, dehydrated mackerel, dehydrated chicken liver, dehydrated egg, whole red lentils, whole pinto beans, whole peas, chicken fat, lentil fiber, pollock oil, whole green lentils, whole navy beans, natural chicken flavor, whole chickpeas, pea starch, chicken heart, SALT,
whole pumpkin, whole butternut squash, collard greens, whole pears, whole apples, whole cranberries, dried kelp, zinc proteinate, mixed tocopherols (preservative), thiamine mononitrate, calcium pantothenate, vitamin E supplement, copper proteinate, dried chicory root, turmeric, sarsaparilla root, althea root, rosehips, juniper berries, citric acid (preservative), rosemary extract, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Bifidobacterium animalis fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus casei fermentation product.
As you can see, it’s still a great kibble for protein. In my case, I may elect to continue with Orijen and supplement with raw fruits and veggies.
It would be interesting to see a comparison video of the old formula to to new.

I saw this video for the first time a few days ago, and I'm glad I did. My pup has been on Zignature dog food for a few years now and started off with the Salmon formula, and now she's on Kangaroo. It seems to me the formula has changed, because she's starting to scratch more and now has redness on her belly and under her arms and growing area. I don't give her any treats except for blue berries and her Joint treats from Glyde that contains shell fish. I'm taking her off Glyde to see if the shell fish is the problem and creating a yeast infection. All the vets want to do is give her pills that don't work like Apoquel. All Apoquel does is help stop the scratching, not fix the problem.
I know this video is form 2019 and you mention that Orijen only has one added synthetic, (Zink). I'm looking for a new food for my pup, and don't have the time to make homemade food and considering Orijen. After further looking at their ingredients list, the list of synthetics is quite large compared to what you are claiming. Has this changed from when you first did this review? because this is a list of additives on the packaging from there original formula.
, zinc proteinate, mixed tocopherols (preservative), vitamin E supplement, thiamine mononitrate, calcium pantothenate, copper proteinate, dried chicory root, turmeric, sarsaparilla root, althea root, rosehips, juniper berries, citric acid (preservative), rosemary extract, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Bifidobacterium animalis fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus casei fermentation product.
I would like to see an updated video on these brands. Carna4 seems great, but very pricey for your average person.
    Keep up the good work!

@@philarnold3421 If you get a frozen formula the risk is super low because they are frozen to such temperatures it kills most bacteria. I think homemade raw food can be risky due to human error in handling it, but food packaged by brands is generally really safe, or else they wouldn't risk selling it. I used to sell pet food and I always fed my cat frozen raw and never had a issue nor did I have customers experience issues with bacteria. I always just thawed her food in designated tupperware in my fridge, and washed my hands after feeding her. Problem with buying it from a store is the cost, so sometimes only having a percentage of the diet be raw is better for cost. What I've found to be the biggest difference between brands is the meat to produce content, and it depends on your dog which one will work best. Overall the enzymes in raw meat and bones are better for dog and cat teeth than even brushing, and it will save you major money in dental bills. Additionally a high moisture diet helps digestion and kidney function, also saving vet bills in the long run. Some of my favourite brands are Vital Essentials, Instinct, and Tucker's, but there are many out there! In all the time I sold pet food I never had a recall with those brands (while there were even major kibble recalls). There are always risks, but it ended up being cheaper and easier feeding my cat and if it's something you're considering check out a pet store near you that sells raw and they'll be able to answer questions. (I've found most "holistic" pet stores do.

I worked at vet office. The reason Hills is sold there is they feed your animals / sick or boarded / this food is not kickbacks...it is because they sell 50 lb bags TO the vet and employees for $5.00 each( does not come in same (packaging/ looking )bags though. Since employees usually have pets themselves, some 10-15 pets at home, it is their perks. I would order everybody their bags- many- (food everywhere!!) ( some resold for profit) and when truck got there would stash them in employees car asap. This is why they push this crap...keep your pets sick, you keep coming back.

Even if your dog gets one raw item, like a chicken thigh or a Turkey neck, once a week they are better for it. It's kinda like eating a salad, just because you dont eat a salad every day doesnt mean you should NEVER eat salad. My service dog is 55lbs as well, and because of the nature of her work she cant be on a completely raw diet. If I go into hospital I need her with me, and I cant bring raw food into a hospital.
Whatever you decide to feed your dog the most important thing I'd that you make an informed choice. Dont just pick a brand because someone recommended it, or because you saw a commercial, do some research on where ingredients are sourced, how the food is made and where, what additives they use. Wheb I look at my own diet there are lots of healthy things I eat that are processed, and dog food can be healthy too, not everything has to be fresh. but some fresh food is better than none at all :)

The best food for your dog is the food your dog does best on. If you spend $100 on Orijen and your dog has diarrhea, what good is that to your dogs health? Every dog is different and while these are good guidelines to choose a good food, you have to take each food on a case by case basis.

      @KraljHD 6 років тому +1

Josh D. The reason why dogs have diarrhea on orijen is because orijen is too rich and most dogs cannot handle that. In my eyes both acana and orijen are terrible.
Imagine yourself eating one egg, one tuna, one cooked chicken, one piece of red meat, and so on. You would get sick to the stomach from the amount of difference in food, same goes for dogs.

It can't be too high in protein since Orijen copycats and Wysong Epigen with 60% protein don't cause these issues in dogs. In reality, they're severely lacking feeding trials, it's one of their biggest issues.

None of these dog foods were/are formulated by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist and none do feeding trails to see if the dogs are getting the nutrients from the food and thriving on it. Most have legumes which is being associated with diet-related Dilated Cardio Myopathy.

    • @KraljHD
      @KraljHD 6 років тому +2

Dont put legumes on a bad light, especially with new tests. New tests have shown that pet foods made in europe have no problems with bad legumes, only those in america and canada where testing is barely there.

I get what you're saying but most vets don't actually know that much about dog nutrition because they aren't taught it in veterinary school. I mean just look at the vet diets like Hills and Royal Canin. I watched those brands slowly kill many animals when I worked in the pet food industry, they're full of rice/corn/meat by-products and any improvement in symptoms people see is kind of a trick. For example, Hills has a food to help dogs with diarrhea (rice+corn usually cause it in dogs if they're not sick or ate something bad) so their anti-diarrhea food has rice, corn, and super high amounts of miscanthus grass to act as insoluble fiber to keep bowel movements inside of your dog for longer. Even though what was causing the diarrhea in the first place is still in the food, they just add in something to treat the symptom not the cause. I have a plethora of examples from those two brands alone, but VETS still prescribe them every day and charge people crazy amounts. And actually many of those brands work with animal nutritionists and there are legal requirements for nutritional content of dog food. The dilated cardio myopathy was primarily linked to grain-free diets but the actual study behind those headlines is biased and inaccurate if you look into it and read the paper. What it really showed was that breeds predisposed to dilated cardio myopathy are predisposed to it, nothing else really.

@@monacledeye ??? I worked in the industry, this is what I gathered from multiple studies, personal experience, and working with brand reps/nutritionists from top dog food brands. I will admit some of the statements I made about vets were a bit too sweeping (and maybe made it sound like I drank the kool-aid to you), but everything else is backed up by ingredient lists and known facts about a dog's digestive system (it is short, and they do not have the necessary enzymes to break down large amounts of carbs). It's not some big conspiracy that's baseless. The pet food industry is worth billions, of course there's going to be corruption and companies cutting corners.

    The perfect food is homemade, easy and cheaper than these fancy kibbke, the recipe is as follows, in order of largest quantity;
Canned pure pumpkin, canned chickpeas (low sodium and rinsed several times in colander) then about equal amounts, grated raw carrot, eggs "scrambled" (in the microwave so as not to need oil or butter) followed by meat from the household dinner ( rinsed) or some decent quality wetfood....that's it, sometimes some other veggies or fruits that are are in the fridge added in small amounts, and generally looked up quick first.... if you need to know calorie count just add it up from the nutritional panels as you go .....
Dogs are not meant to digest corn., soy, wheat, or rice flour, and those will always the base of kibble , they are the cheapest. They are the base for manny human processed foods , we eat to much of them too..
When my dog ate kibble for only a few days there was a noticeable change.
It was the same as if a healthy human suddenly only ate
    Fast food.
He had less energy, inconsistent bowel movements. Sometimes diarrhea, sometimes constipated stools. He didnt feel "good" after eating, had a couple accidents in the house.
It was such a stark realization he was suddenly a miserable, average north American diet, ibs, human.... it was awful...
Please try this recipe, considerable research went into it.
I make a batch every several days so it at least keeps for 4 days in a 40 f temp fridge.....

I just found out that taste of the wild has more lead in it than Flint, MI water. I started using that brand in 2016 and recently switched to Nutrisource for the last month. My dog went to the vet and her liver enzymes were high. I don't know if it's taste of the wild or the switch in foods. All I know is I'm pissed and probably switching to raw food but a frozen delivery program.

My dogs did so well on TOW for many years. Then I got a dog with IBS and sensitive stomach. After a while, he ouldn't tolerate it, so the search was on. Shortly after that another of my dogs could not tolerate it! I preferred to keep all of my dogs on the same food for simplicity sake. Not happening. My little one with IBS is now on Canidae and he's been fine. My other dogs are on different formulas of Nutro. They have all been on grainfree forever but Im scared so the other dogs are transitioning to a Nutro with grain. We'll see.

Just switched my puppy to Carna4 a few days ago after watching a few reviews. I'm happy she's eating the best quality kibble out there! It's expensive but it's worth it. I'd rather have her eat healthy food that's expensive than have health complications that'll cost me more money later down the road from feeding her unhealthy food.

I saw this 2 years ago when we got our first puppy. I went all in on Carna4.
Overall, great choice. My first puppy is very healthy, lean, and has no skin issues.
We then fostered and later adopted puppy #2. He came to us on Purina and had really bad dandruff on his lower back.
Vet told us to do lots of special baths but loves the Purina Pro Plan. Also has "never heard of Carna4".
Bro... what!? I've been awakened to misinformed Vets through Rodney's channel.
So I continued on our path and switched Puppy #2 to Carna4, also. 1 month later - NO DANDRUFF.
We're shocked. No special shampoos or baths. Nothing, just swapped the food.
    It's unreal.
