    I have a Haworthia Cuspidata, it is sending out fat roots? from between its leaves. What is your experience in this and can you tell me any information about this please.?

    • @SucculentSocial
      @SucculentSocial  Місяць тому

      Hi there, firstly I wish to apologise for replying only now, we got so busy with orders especially during Mother's Day. When mine will have fat roots sticking out everywhere including the holes of the pots, it means they need more space. Most likely, they have already wrapped themselves around the soil and are just sticking out where there is space. So best to repot them.

    Is it ok to grow haworthia in such organic soil? Heard its best to have well draining soil but also that some haworthia do alright in organic soil, sometimes better. Yours look amazing and very large, with healthy roots growing in organic soil. Does it work well? Is there anything to watch out for?

    • @edenisok894
      @edenisok894 Рік тому

      Like more organic than than ones i see online i mean. Usually its like 60% pumice or grit.

    • @SucculentSocial
      @SucculentSocial  Рік тому +1

      Hi, thanks for the comment! Our haworthias have been growing in our own soil mix (mostly with organic soil). we make our own soil mix that is composed of regular soil mix, sand and perlite. From our experience, this soil mix is fast draining as well, but we are very conscious not to overwater. So far, everything is ok and they are all thriving. Maybe you give it a try and let us know how it went. 😊

    Did i understand and hear it right that you use cinnamon powder after taking away the babies?

    • @SucculentSocial
      @SucculentSocial  2 роки тому

      Hi Trudy, yes you heard it right! =) Cinnamon is known for its antifungal properties not just for succulents but it is commonly used by gardeners for different plants too. What we do is to put a bit of cinnamon powder in parts of the succulents that have open wounds/cuts just like when we do cuttings or when we remove offsets. Fungal infestation can be quite challenging to treat so prevention is the key! Some even say that cinnamon encourages root growth for the cuttings therefore use cinnamon powder instead of root hormones. I cannot personally attest to that but as long as it prevents fungus, I am already happy. =)

    Hmmm Haworthia and Haworthiopsis are all I grow and I will say they DO like direct light once they have become accustomed to it. This is a huge mistake many people make with both plants. For example both plants you have @4:07 are very etiolated they are begging for more light. The H. cymbiformis should look more like a green rose than it does and the zebra plant should have little to no light green but be very dark green and far more compact. I hope this helps good luck.

    • @SucculentSocial
      @SucculentSocial  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Irie for sharing your expertise on these lovelies..;) It would have been nice to have mine outside but the sun here is really harsh and intense so most of the gardens and nurseries keep these under a bit of shade. The ones I tried to acclimatise outside turned brownish. Haha. Thanks much!

    • @irienerd8178
      @irienerd8178 Рік тому

      @@SucculentSocial yeah they will pout if you do the sun too quickly, but as long as they aren't burning they'll be fine. I live in Texas so I get it about the harsh sun at times. I made the mistake of leaving one in direct sun and the 115 f heat one summer. In a matter of hours the plant looked like it was melting...I only do direct light inside not outside, so outside yeah you'd likely need a light shade cloth. Good luck!!!
