    I saw the process of a clipped leaf growing into a healthy little seedling-so fascinating! I was wondering, after these few months, will the original big Cotyledon tomentosa grow new leaves at the cut area? And will it be obvious that it was clipped? Maybe this could be an interesting idea for a future video! Hopefully, I'll get the chance to buy a large Cotyledon tomentosa someday and try propagating seedlings myself.

    At the dollar store there are these small kits with metal wire to hang up picture frames. I used that to make my "floral gorrote" with a key ring on each end. You use pliers to squash a washer thing to lock the wire. I can now behead any thing with ease . It's just my partner thinks my tool is weird and questionable ;-)

    The crushed terracotta is a brilliant idea. However, baked terracotta is also quite porous, meaning it likes to suck up and hold onto water. However, you can take this into advantage, as this could possibly act as a water reserve, which then slowly lets water back into the coarse soil whilst not water logging the soil.

    Are you placing the dry cuttings into a dry mix and leaving it dry for 3 weeks or so?

    • @SucculentSocial

      Yes, around that time.. 3 or 4 weeks (depending on the season) is when they grow roots. And once roots are out, we slowly introduce water.. ☺️

    Hi there! My little bears paw was in my west facing window during the day. He was growing a lot of leaves but the leaves were sooooo compact new paws weren't getting enough sun and they were looking pretty flat and not plump. I moved him to my bookshelf a few feet from the windows a few weeks ago and they've stretched a little and now I can actually see the stems and where I might trim in the future for propagation. I see yours looks like its more stretched out than my plant.. do you think he was sun stressed and now he's happy stretching out a little? He's putting off tons of new paws since moving to the bookshelf. I'm not sure if I should move him back to the window or leave him on the bookshelf.

    • @SucculentSocial
      @SucculentSocial 2 місяці тому

      Hi there. Looks like your plant is happy where it is right now. I’d say keep it there till it grows the pups. Then you can propagate. But if you feel that they are getting too leggy, then slowly introduce more sun. All the best.

    My bearpaw's leaves are so compact I can't get to the stem to trim him. My paws aren't nearly as plump. I hope he'll get more plump as he gets bigger.

    • @SucculentSocial
      @SucculentSocial 2 місяці тому

      Hi there. Yours must be a wonderfully compact bunch of paws. If you want to get them to be less compact for the purpose of propagation and cutting stem, take them off the sun for a few days, they will elongate and thus will create space for you to reach out to the stem. Then just slowly introduce again to sun after propagation. I am sure yours will be plump as they get bigger, just ensure you got a nice soil in there that will help them store in more water. All the best!

    Just one last question Sorry, does pot size really matter and if yes how to choose the right one?

    • @SucculentSocial
      @SucculentSocial 2 місяці тому

      Yes, pot size will matter. Too much soil will retain more water, hence prone to rotting. Less soil will result to unhealthy plants (less nutrients). On our products, the depth of the pot is about 10% more compared to the height of the succculent. Same thing with the opening, around 10% more of the width of the succulent.

  • @daym8
    @daym8 3 місяці тому

    Salamat Po! Is it true that the soil has to be amended to suit the weather conditions to the place you are currently in? Or just follow the proportions mentioned for all types of climates? Thank you Sir for sharing this video.

    • @SucculentSocial
      @SucculentSocial 2 місяці тому

      Hello! From experience, our soil mix works in different seasons (we’re located in Melbourne). Our winter is wet so we just don’t water them a lot (sometimes once a month). Important to note that the mix must be well draining. If you are in an area of high humidity, you may want to observe the water retention of your mix. If it does, then you may decrease your perlite and/or coconut coir. Hope this helps.

      Hi there! Thanks so much for watching our video. I am not the best person to answer about lithops but usually lithops are planted in isolation but if you want to combine it with another plant, best to combine those with same water needs and same dormancy. Shallow pots will be great for those with shorter roots. Thanks.
