    I never had a turbine aircraft as they seemed so complex, and expensive, seems like they are becoming much more user friendly. You are a great explainer and teacher, did you ever consider making a video series on "getting started with turbines for beginners"? I would certainly be a viewer.

      Thanks 😊. They are much more user friendly than say 10-15 years ago. The technology amazes me!
      I’m always looking for video ideas. I did do a how to install a turbine 2 part video not too long ago but I think your idea would create a different type of more general video?

      @@thelightersideofrc yes, for example my expertise lies in large scale sailplanes and to s lesser extent large power aerobatics. There's a lot of potential for cross over. For example putting a turbine on a 25 pound sailplane, where do you start? What power turbine required. I saw you put a turbine in a Mibo Swift. You could integrate some basic stuff about turbines in a video on that for guys who have interest but know nothing. BTW, did you ever do a video on that install? I didn't see it listed. Even a video series about turbine theory woven into a project to keep it interesting.

    With 4 Swiwin 400 pros you could fly a small two person jet…I’ve been doing calculations and slowly building a large axial compressor based turbofan jet engine for personal flying vehicles. It’s slow going to get it right…Swiwin definitely builds great microjets. Unfortunately they don’t translate up to larger style jets of more than 0.5 meters in size. The simplicity of a centrifugal compressor is great but an axial compressor is better suited for a turbofan…these tiny jets are amazing marvels of engineering though, no question…

      @@thelightersideofrc hopefully our little company is successful…just 3 guys and one girl…putzing in a hanger at a local airport and working with a local aerospace fabrication company. If we succeed in building the engine…we may market the engines for small aircraft…and worry about building the personal aircraft later…

    Love all the features of this turbine, but my 190b blows up mid flight two days ago with only 23 minutes of run time....
    I sent it back to China today, and I hope Thomas will deal with asap.
    Few friends bought Swiwin because I recommended it, and I hold my next purchase till I will see the quality of the service from the manufacturer.
    Thomas answer emails fast, and if everything will go well, Swiwin will be a big hit here.

    Good day.
    Once again thank you for such great site.
    I bought myself a new Swiwin 14kg for Xmas present.
    I am also in the market for a 8kg turbine for my Vampire.
    Question now, I was told the specs. of the 6kg is basically the same except the fuel consumption is is less.
    For less I pay on a 6kg turbine I just have to let more flow on the fuel up to the consumption of a 8kg. Is this possible or is the spray ring larger in hole size.
    Only way to see the difference maybe if you have the different parts with you of each turbine.
    Already a few guys bought the 17kg swinwin with impression they can boost it up to a 19kg.
    Regards Casper.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching. The swiwin lineup is listed on my website. www.thelightersideofrc.com
      The specs listed on the site for the 80 are from my testing on the engine and also my test video of the 80 shows the specs.
      The Swiwin 60 and 80 are same dimensions. The 80 will have slightly altered internals and max rpm will be higher which is where the additional thrust comes from. So yes, if you did a max rpm run on both engines for 1 min the 60 will use slightly less fuel than the 80.
      The 170 and 190 are the same core of the engine as well.

  • @trsoderberg
    @trsoderberg 3 роки тому +1

    Interesting on the thrust numbers. I would assume that engine thrust is correlated to the density altitude. If you were on a standard day. Barometer reading 29.92inhg at minus -20 your density altitude would actually be closer to -700ft below sea level. I would lay good odds if you did a thrust test again on a warmer day you would note a significant loss of thrust. Not saying of course that the numbers aren't awe inspiring. May make for a cool video though to show people the difference a hit day makes on the performance of your aircraft.

One question, are there limits on how long you can run at full throttle for? I realise that you’d never run it that hard when it’s flying in the jet but just curious.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Ian. Full throttle is the hardest thing for our turbines. I’m sure they would run for a very long tine but it’s the hottest point for the turbine. On my Ultra Flash when I do some high speed stuff I will peg it at full throttle and complete 3-4 massive runs/circuits. Probably at full throttle for 1-1.5 min. That’s the most for me.

    • @johanveltheim4331
      @johanveltheim4331 3 роки тому +1

      Turbines are in general quite fine running at full chat, more so than piston engines definitely. The only moving parts have ball/roller bearings that have continuous lubrication, the engine is designed to tolerate certain turbine inlet temperature and RPM, don't exceed those and the engine is fine. There's a lot of air flowing through the engine that keeps all the other parts cool. Sure, an impending failure is most likely to manifest at full chat but then there was a problem to begin with.
