Dont have enough space to leave my paintings on the table 24/7. A nice solution that works for me to store my WIP between painting sessions is using trouser hangers and hang my WIP on my wordlore door.

I prefer square but like to alternate a square, then a round. I’m right handed and can’t start any other way then top left to right. Everyone has their own way of doing things which I love!

When I work on the larger paintings, it does help to work on a small "snack size" canvas from time to time to give yourself a break or make it feel you are getting something done.

Mrs. Coffee..thank you so much for all you said...It really resonated with me..I am 70 yrs old and been painting for 1yr..I paint constantly..no more walks..I have been worried why I am achy and stiff all the time..bingo..so..I use a walker and from now on I will be taking multiple breaks to go outside for short walks!! I started with rounds both love squares..but do both..the advise about having multiple WIP sounds great..I just have 1 huge WIP and it does get tiring after awhile..I follow you on Twitter..you are a riot over there!!! Thanks again!!

Squares are my favourite. My first kit was a 1p kit of a robin on a fairy. The moment I started I knew I was doomed to addiction. 6 years and counting. One of my pro tips to not burning out is where possible get kits with colours you love. Most of my kits are bright and vibrant, and that makes my heart happy.

I have been diamond painting since 2021. I didn’t know about these tips and I wish I did. Now I try to stay in the know with new tips and things. I love using my tweezers for both round and square kits. You get the credit for me using plastic bags for my storage system. I have tried various storage methods and really like the plastic bag method. You are still very awesome

My first diamond painting was a DAC round drill kit called "Something In The Air" inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas. When I opened it up I immediately became overwhelmed. I still started but soon gave up as it was too much for me. I then decided to go with a much smaller canvas that was a little more manageable and I've been head over heels in love with this craft ever since. I prefer round drills only because I use tweezers to diamond paint but I will do square drills as well.

Also a good reminder I got was when I am throwing away my trash drills (or if throwing away drills) DON’T throw directly into the trash because they are microplastics. Have them in a container first then throw away

It really doesn’t matter because when trash goes into the landfill they get crushed and go everywhere anyway. So either just keep them or donate them.

Helllloooo Mrs. Coffee!!! I'm baaaack! LOL! You probably don't even remember me, but I used to be a subscriber about 4 years ago. You talked about "DP burnout"... that's what happened to me. I did a HUUUUGE DP for my daughter in law for Xmas 4 years ago. I really had to push myself so hard to get it finished for Xmas, and I literally burned myself out on that ONE painting. I had done dozens of paintings before it (40cm x 40cm being the ones I did most). Also, at that time, the YT DP community was going through a rather nasty "drama" and I found myself unsubscribing from practically everyone I was subbed to (which was a LOT at that time) and I just didn't find ANY enjoyment in painting anymore. So I went back to one of my first "crafty" loves... crochet. Like you were saying, when I "choose" one of my MANY crafts, I get full-on addicted to doing it, and nothing else, LOL! Then the other day I actually stumbled on a few diamond paintings in, of ALL places, Dollar Tree! I bought all three selections they had and started again, and it reminded me how much I LOVE to diamond paint! Anyway, I'm back and re-subscribed cuz you were always one of my favorite channels!

Don't remember you?! How could I forget, you were always around but left I believe right before I had my stroke. I thought maybe I had did something or said something to offend you and you left, the drama days turned me off to UA-cam which is when I 1st started thinking of coming to twitch. You were always one of the few comments I loved to see because you were always kind...but you got sassy when needed, but aim glad to see you back and that you're doing well.

It was as if you were talking about me. I have so many crafts because of my have to have it and do it and have everything to do with it. My craft room was so full it started coming out in other rooms, my husband was an angel and never said a word. He put up with so much craft wise, he has been passed over 4 years now and I have decided I am not getting any craft kit now until I have finished a few more. I haven't tried square yet butt of course I had to have one but it's still not touched. I really love your channel. Thank you. Sending love from the UK 🇬🇧 ❤️ 💕

I'm fairly new at this craft (since end of Nov). These are great tips. My favorites are rounds. Have a huge square WIP right now that is "killing me." DACs Flower Market. I'm doing rounds in between. My very first painting was a DAC from Joann called Coastal view. My 2nd purchase Iwas Hannah Lynn Wynndy.

I love kitting up in old school paint pot strips (6 pots in a connected strip).
Some colors can take 3 pots and I just mark the first one in the row until the next dot color. I've reused them so many times.
This may not work if you like to have larger canvases, but for 30x40cm standard full drill canvases, they work great!
Also wrinkle releaser sprayed on a q-tip and swirled around in baggies or pots saves my arms instead of shaking a dryer sheet like a Polaroid picture

  • @laurabartlett9724

Rounds are faster and easier in my opinion but if you love an image squares do it a little better justice. Since they’re smaller you get more detail with squares and sometimes more sparkle and shine with rounds. Few years into this craft I’ve found I like to switch it up between both. Also, if you decide to partake in a diamond painting event (year round) and you have a finish deadline do yourself a favor and go with rounds.
My first diamond painting was a square from Diamond Art Club called Take A Bite by Mandie Manzano but it was not my first finish. I switched 1/3rd of the way in to a round kit. It was a great move because it gave me confidence and exposed me to other creators and the community of diamond painters.
I researched the craft diligently long before I made any purchase. Believe it or not I learned most of what I know from Miss Coffee here along with Rachel Rae. It was exactly what I needed and it taught me so much especially about why some companies are a bit better than random kits you see on Temu or even Amazon. If making sure artists receive commission on their work this is important. It’s also a personal choice. How to section your canvas was my game changer! I’m now into my third year and my very best advice is to only buy those images you love if you’re anything like me and go all in on your new hobby or passion. My 2nd tip definitely correlates with Miss Coffees’ tip to take breaks and switch it up. I do multiple crafts outside of diamond painting and it helps me find my zen. As it stands now diamond painting is a version of meditation for me. I listen as I paint before bed when my anxiety gets out of hand. It’s changed my life in a great way!

Hobby burnout is SO real! I was starting to feel that way about crocheting, then I was cleaning my room I found these diamond paintings that I picked up a few years back and it felt so refreshing. I like to switch between crafts for that reason. My job stresses me out enough, I don't need my crafts to do the same. It was funny when you were talking about shapes and all these other things you need to consider like the set up and break down and I just jumped right in not knowing a thing. I was just happy for something "new" lol. I paused my work on the piece last night while watching one of your other videos so I could bag up and sort out my drills.

I'm a return diamond painter. Did it for years, got distracted with knitting, then resin, now I'm wanting to diamond paint. I try to switch my crafts up so I don't get burned out. but sometimes the rabbit hole is deep. I can't remember what my 1st painting was. I've completed so many of them, including one HAED. That was a major undertaking. I have 2 more to complete. There are so many new things since I took a break..... wow! Fun to watch and hear what everyone else is up to. I'm currently doing a 30*x 40*, but have a bigger one in another spot to work on. Thanks for the video! Oh and I like both square and round. my first diamond painting was a square one from Amazon. My kids bought it for me for my birthday four years ago. I didn’t know that there was a difference. I do actually prefer squares though, because you do get better detail with them. I do both rounds and squares. I go by if I love the image I start at the Top left and work right and down. I’m right handed, and I found that the diamonds rubbed on my fingers when my hand rested on the finished parts in order to do the unfinished parts.

I'm a new DP. I've only been doing it since Nov. 2023. My first kit was a little one. 30 cm x 30 cm, black cat in a heart, round drills. I've only done round drills, but I have ordered a square to try. I really appreciate these tips. When I first started I didn't do a lot of these, but I've started slowly incorporating them now. The sectioning off really helps. I use release papers. I need to get washi to go around edges. I'm usually ok with the trays and pens that come with the kits. I've ordered an acrylic pen to try though. I use a light board, but I got a small one and have had to order a bigger one. Due to my frustration with the too small light board I did get burned out and took a 3 mo break. I do not like kiting up, I need to find a better way to do it.

Thank you for such a useful and wise vlog. My first diamond painting was a little 9 x 9” partial canvas of a butterfly I bought from, I guess, our equivalent of JoAnn or Michaels here in the UK. I just wanted to dip my toe in the water, and yes, I liked it. So far I’ve been a rounds only girl, but I’m eyeing up squares because so many beautiful images only come as a square kits. Also I hear you about being multi-craftual and burning out, but everything has its season, and every craft comes around again. When it does, it’s like coming home.

Hi Mrs Coffee, good morning from Southern California.
Thank you for your video. My first Diamond painting was Butterflies. When I bought my first Diamond paintings I didn't know what they were. I thought they were things for the kitchen. I did get burnout this past June. I just couldn't work on my Diamond Painting. To make matters worse my caregiver told me I had to finish all the Diamond paintings I had before I bought any more. This sent me into depression. I am severely ADHD and have Clinical Depression too. Finally this January I got back to working on my Diamond Painting of a Dachshund Puppy. I started having Sciatica in my left leg. I had to stand up to Diamond Paint. A bit messy, but no pain.
I have several different storage trays. But, I like Elizabeth Ward the best. I get them from a well-known discount company.
I am currently working on Golden Cocker Spaniel by Peggy Collins. I did everything you said. I used skinny Washi tape to section of the canvas from the left. I am lefthanded. Also, I used my storage trays to cover up a large section. Then everywhere else I used 8x10inch release from Crafts with Crashley.
When I am burnt out, I read, or do some coloring in my adult coloring book. Or I watch on my SmartTV History Channel ( Ancient Aliens, etc) A&E, ID, or TLC.
Once again thank you for the tips video

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas, one crafters said she start at the top and work her way down so she don’t end up with the canvas in her lap. Hope you understand what I’m saying what you think about that method I’m new just getting started

Hi Mrs coffee, I prefer a square at the moment but it'll probably change. I've gone thru burn out I started in early 2021 then left in mid 2022 and I've just now picked it back up. My first diamond art was a circle 40 by 30 cm galaxy with the words I live you to the moon and back on it.

Great video, I love how you explain things and encourage us, focusing our mental health's priority🙏 And about the kits you asked: I have started DP not long ago and watched many videos before I dared to buy any of them. But I got the conclusion like many of us, that I start with a round one since I am not brave enough 😂 It was a custom made kit -I wanted to avoid art theft- only for myself with a SW Acolyte character and I loved it, but since then, I tried square...and I will never do round again😂 They are beautiful, ofc, but since I am only doing custom DPs usually with photos to decorate my.room, or with my drawings or commissions, all.the tiny details are more important to me than the shining of the painting. But it is only me. 😄

Hello, Mrs. Coffee! I'm baaaack!! 😂 Diamond Painting burnout is REAL... I'm just coming back after a 4-year "break". It's good to see you still active in the community. These were all great tips for beginners!

As far as round or square I prefer square but I need both in my stash to break it up.

Oh and so far I've finished one diamond painting. It was round and I really enjoyed it. I started a square DAC a couple of days ago and love it too. I'm thinking I may have a round and square going at the same time. ❤

i love this series that everyone seems to be doing on tips for beginners. I'm a seasoned painter, but it's fun to listen anyway. I love squares and the regular wax that comes with the kits. I have tried glue dots, puddy and hard wax, but seem to go back to the regular old wax. I love a medium sized pen - which I have a huge number of all from amazon or ali express. The nice turned ones are just to expensive for me.
I personally don't agree with the tip to have multiple diamond paintings. I admire you for being able to do that. If I stop a painting b/c I've lost interest in it, I NEVER go back to it. I have several hanging on my door that are incomplete, and I have no interest in retuning to them. I work best on one canvas till it's finished. But again I admire you for being able to work on several..
I always start my diamond paintings at the top left hand corner, that is so that the incomplete portion is always what I am leaning against. IF I start at the bottom and work up, I always end up with the completed diamond painting in my lap and drills get rubbed off. I am also right handed.
my first kit 3 years ago, was round and a cow picture from Amazon!

I have not started diamond painting yet but have been watching your videos. My question is do you seal your paintings. I’ve seen sealer but did not know if it was necessary. My first kit is a kitten in a cookie jar from diamond art club. Can’t wait to start!

I just got my first kit a few weeks ago. I got a kit with insects and gave my boyfriend the first one I made (it was a bee) and he framed it and hung it up immediately. I recently lost my job and it's been very therapeutic! Bought my first bigger kit today! Some cute kitty cats!

i’m trying out diamond painting for the first time ever and i really found this video helpful! watched it while i tried doing my first ever diamond painting, (starry night, with 31 drills/diamonds colors😭😭it’s a 35x27cm sized design, so it’s huge, at least for me) and i want to ask, do you have many recommendations of where to buy waxes from? (or whatever those colored squares are called) because the kit only gave me one and i don’t know how long it should last, so i was just curious about that.

I like both square and round 😊 And I always work on 2 canvas that are very differen... It can be one round and one square. Or one dark colors and the other bright colors. Or one of them are color bloking and the other confetti heavy....Then I can work on the one I feel like working on. This have been working for me now for 3 years 😊

I like both squares and rounds. I would have to say if I had to pick a favorite it would be squares. The very licensed kit that I completed was a craftibly kit. A landscape. I absolutely loved it. It was a square and a big one lol. I believe you go big or go home LOL so that's what I did. I don't regret it.

Square but I still enjoy round… I also flip from harbor freight to baggies.. I never know until I start and I swap pens through out a painting… just what ever floats my boat I guess…lol
