The fact that this video has less than 1k views (as of the time I'm writing this) is absolutely insane to me... the editing was phenomenal, your points were well laid out and easy to understand, the presentation was great, and it got right to the point! Keep up the good work!
Man, I was writing my comment to throw out my thoughts on this whole thing, and you pretty much covered all of it while I was writing it. Great video, dood! I was going to say, "Sony is throwing spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks" and then you said something similar. Then I was going to write about how they just want one of all these games to succeed and the rest can fail, because it will more than make up for the failures since they are quick turn around games that launch with little content. Then you talked about that too haha. I can see why it could turn into a huge payday for Jim Ryan and Sony if it succeeded, but it is absolutely a gamble. And IMO not a good one nor one I want to see as a fan of video games. Microsoft already went down this road and they put on blinders to all the criticism. They weakened their platform due to that. Now Sony is all, "hold my beer, I'll do better". I just want to see Sony keep on the single player/narrative road and diversify just a bit. It's why I buy their hardware.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah playing Spiderman 2 this weekend really reminded me how much I love having these kinda games year in year out. Insomniac is a 1 man army for ps studios right now. But unless they pull some voodo out of their ass and launch wolverine in 2024, I dont think we get anything like this from sony next year
Man that was a great intro.. And great video again. I'm really interested to see if these game companies really think their huge investment in live service is gonna actually pay off the way they think it'll.
The chance a live service is gonna pay off is like 1 in 10 but the chance a successful one will finanically outperform any other game you put out is like 100%, it honestly feels like some companies are just flooding the market to win those odds
Playstation are approaching it wrong. playstation is low on multiplayers they make you pay for ps plus online but for what though... You cant force live GAAS in everything, if it fits then it fits organically but not one shoe fits everything. This is what happened with TLOU people have been playing factions for 8+ years ND was ready to drop a trailer but now because its not GAAS enough its damn near cancelled meanwhile we're left with no multiplayers for playstation nothing to boast why we should pay for online in the first place all because they are chasing the money. Instead of focused on making a multiplayer people would actually want to play It hurts the studios we love and it hurts the consumer...
They stay messing with your videos on my timeline! I was wondering where you were at and two videos went by. Almost 10k subs tho, let’s go! Not too happy with the 12 live service games and 60% of their budget going to them. Would love some co-op mixed in with the single player but not the majority of the funds. Let’s just hope we actually see factions 2 and that they don’t ruin Ghost of Tsushima Legends 2 (lowkey my favorite multiplayer game of all time) with microtransactions. Edit: forever waiting for the little devil inside 🙃
Great video and I couldn't agree more. I bought the ps5 on release because of all the great single player games on ps4 and to say I am dissapointed right now is a huge understatement, that last Playstation showcase was awful and I am mainly playing on pc and wondering why I even bought a ps5 hopefully we get some good single player games 😢.
I mean I think until this point there have been good games on the system. Demons Souls, MM, Rift Apart, Returnal, Ragnarok, HFW, Spidey 2, all in 3 years. And thats just from PS studios, it isnt mentioning than party exclusives like FF16 or indie exclusives loke Stray or Kena. The concern is mainly in the future of the system- Somy hasnt been this quiet about major releases in their big franchises in a very long time. Like, since 2016 at the very least
First results: What is quite possibly the biggest flop in gaming history. The other end of the spectrum: The highest rated 3D platformer in about two decades aside from Mario.
Great video, man! I think the outcry over Sony's push into live service wouldn't be nearly as angry if we knew about a few more of the SP games they're working on. You're absolutely right about the lead time in games meaning most of the games that have come out under Jim Ryan were approved by his predecessors. To me, the things we can judge him on is the strategy and messaging under his tenure, and I'm not a fan. In recent years Sony has pivoted to cheap, lazy marketing and a complete unwillingness to open up about what they're making until 7 months before it releases. When a game takes 5 years or so to make, that means you aren't talking about it for more than 80% of its lifespan. I think that's a bit unacceptable. On the other hand, I don't really want to return to the days of Sony announcing games too soon, then trying to keep up my excitement for 4 years by edging me with a drip feed of content. There's gotta be a healthier middle ground where we've still got a lot of games to look forward to, but we're not waiting for 4 years after their announcement for games to release. Whoever takes over for Jim Ryan, I really hope they are more communicative with Sony's fans, and understand the value in giving people something to be excited about and look forward to. Also more PSVR 2 games plz. I'd really like a reason to buy one.
Hey long time no see buddy haha Yeah I kinda want the next head of PS to be someone who actually, demonstrably cares about games and the PS experience. Some people criticize the "hey fellow kids" CEOs/presidents which, fair enough, but I think for example Layden's genuine care and excitement about what ps was doing was a big defining factor of the ps4 gen. Maybe they overshared a little, but there was soul behind it all the way to the top. Jim Ryan was a businessman's businessman and thats fine for the bottom line but it separates you from the community, which is a big part of the games industry
Putting studio's which excel in single-player games on multiplayer titles makes no sense. Very different skills sets all the way up the product stack. Its not just all code. It would be like putting a doctor in an ambulance and expecting them to do well. There is some crossover in the core skills, but the doctor will perform way worse than a paramedic in that situation. Providing lower quality and wasting potential.
2023 has been an interesting year for me personally. I got to play more great games from both third party AAA developers and Indie developers. RE4 remake, Like A Dragon Ishin, Armored Core 6, Street Fighter 6, Warhammer Boltgun, Remnant 2, and Sifu's arenas update have all been great experiences to play this year. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be much from Sony. God of War Ragnarok got a new game plus update but there are so many issues from it. They nerfed some abilities, especially Kratos' Rage ability, and the combat flow, at least on the hardest difficulty, keeps getting interrupted because of some of the annoying enemy designs in the game. Meanwhile, Sifu has the hardest difficulty that is genius. Bosses have new moves, new mix ups, and just fight better. Nothing is taken away from you, you just need to get better. I'm also bummed about the fact that Horizon is getting a live service game, when it would've been cooler if they updated Forbidden West with a free multi-player update like Ghost of Tsushima did. I loved the first Helldivers and I don't want the sequel to be a multi-player live service. I just wanted the classic gameplay of fighting hordes with your friends split screen or single player. I get that Sony needs the live services to make more money, but I want them to invest more in singleplayer games and indie games. I was also bummed out that Marathon ended up being a live service shooter, when the original ones were single player games. I just hope that Sony investing more than half of the budget on live service games won't affect the outcome of their singleplayer titles. Also DAMN ASAD! NICE SHIRT! I WANT ONE
Agreed with you on quite a lot. But did they really do that with GoWR?? I never noticed that & I thought with the stuff they added it was a great NG+. Fighting with Thor is fun.
@HishamA.N_Comicbroe When I was playing on Give me God of War difficulty, the stun that comes from the normal rage upon activation, which can also be used to be safe from the stun state after whiffing the parry, doesn't work when fighting Queen Gna.
The years been great overall which kinda distracts from sony's uneven year. I didnt know about those ragnarok changes but glad to hear the sifu updates have been cool, I havent gotten around to them cause theres so much to play but that game deserves so much appreciation. Also hoping to get to Boltgun soon
Imagine designing several live service games, each of which are meant to absorb 100% of your time and money, at the same time. Absolutely genius! That just means people will give 1400% more of their time they weren’t giving before for their products… right? Imagine having a strategy where you green light a dozen games but only expect one of them to not send you bankrupt. Spastic genius over here! We’re witnessing the next video game crash in motion thanks to the most arrogant, shortsighted, salt the earth financial strategists at work. PlayStation will be lucky to exist in 10 years at this rate.
Sony's definitely gonna survive, they just need to keep their momentum going and build up what they already have. Xbox now has a lot of cards in their favor, but as long as Sony continues to put effort into what they're releasing, I imagine we're gonna see a lot of strong competition between the two in the years to come.
I am confused by this. He talked about the gamble of Sony putting most of their 1st/2nd party efforts behind live service MP games rather than the single player games they are known for. The whole video was about this and it was explained clearly.
The fact that this video has less than 1k views (as of the time I'm writing this) is absolutely insane to me... the editing was phenomenal, your points were well laid out and easy to understand, the presentation was great, and it got right to the point! Keep up the good work!
Seriously. This is the kind of quality vid I’d expect to have like 500k views
Still love your videos and humour. I always come back to this channel for game content, keep it up!

Thanks for the greet video. You put way more time and effort into these things than us peasants deserve!

You know he’s gangsta once he pulls out the PlayStation socks 💀

Concord went well

sorry but so much nothingness and never to the point, now I know everything except what I clicked for 😴
