This song was my soundtrack when I was going through my second divorce, walking endlessly along the beach off the Santa Monica pier as the sun set. Steadily draining the sorrow and grief, weaving my emotions like fine lace with the tides, the breezes, the shadows and sun reflecting on the water coming in and out... I love this woman's work.
I'd been familiar with some of Jane's music before, but I remember exactly where I was whne I heard this song. I don't know why, this particular song, but I immediately bought the album. On cassette. (I'm old.) I've bought the CD twice, and now I still listen to it on my phone.
This album is one of the most extraordinary albums I've ever heard, with this title track being one of the highlights. However, the album is just begging to be remastered. The sound on the original CD is somewhat muted and flat. I can only imagine how stunning it would be if the sound were remastered to match the brilliance of the music.
She's so amazing. I meet her after one of her shows. So loving and endearing. A truly wonderful person, I can't express how wonderful this woman is! One of the best high lights of my life!
Jane is a rare gem. I've seen her live three or four times, and each show was very different and wonderful in different ways. She always surprises...I remember hearing about "Maria" and thinking "that's too bad...I don't want to hear her play jazz," and then I heard it and was completely blown away. Thanks Jane!
First heard Jane's music in a record store in Vernon B.C. in 80/81 and she helped to put life into perspective in Toronto in Summer 2004. Had the great pleasure of meeting her in Sheffield last year. Jane's music is other-worldly and yet touches you time and again with it's brutal honesty.
This woman is so amazing. This song really gets to me. She is a very very special talent. Heard lots of her music now and there is something very special about her, Love what she does,
I was fortunate to see JS live when this song was new. A story of loss, it's truly one of the most soulful and melancholy songs ever. It has been part of my life track for some years now.
I saw her live at Massey Hall with band, backup singers Rebecca Campbell and Rebbeca Jenkins and she shared the stage so easily, but each musical phrase was beautifully arranged.
I agree!. This song still moves me after all these years. I just can't get over the walking album, whenever I play it, I repeat play it. Especially this song and the white tent the raft.
I wouldn't describe this as a video but more as a series of still photos blended one into the next. Adds to the beauty of a haunting and deeply touching work.
I am very happy to see this here. Yes, thank you to the person who posted it! There's been a surprising lack of Jane's material on UA-cam, and I hope that's changing! Anybody got "Map of the World, Part II"?!
thanks for posting this, I didn't know it existed. I've listened to this album thousands of times back in the day. This song was the clarion call of my broken heart and got me through a lot. Thanks again for posting. I just love her music!
This song should have been covered by Supertramp, around the time when they did their "Crime of the Century" disc. Does anyone else get that? It's such a potent song, and her album is altogether a work of great inspiration. And so underappreciated!
Jane es una diosa haciendo música para los dioses, solo que nosotros que estamos aquí podemos ahora verla y escucharla, somos afortunados de poder oírla y ahora hasta poder verla.
Please include the song"Goodbye" (from this album) on UA-cam. Siberry fans in our town are remissed you have yet to upload it and we would like to have friends outside the area listen to this very quintessential Siberry song.
Jane Siberry - probably the most underappreciated artist in contemporary popular music :-(
The Art Pop movement, too obscure for commercial success, too bad!
Except by her fans, who are an endless multitude. Screw the critics. She is a genius artist. No-one like Jane Siberry. Like you, I love her.
@@numerikproductions Shame she essentially stopped crafting songs and went to spoken-word soundscapes. She was a marvelous songwright and singer.
I agree 100%.

Criminally underrated
She is a canadian icon who deserves recognition
One of the most original female singers ever.
The only song that made me cry when my father died.
Still does.

Brilliance expressed in small, complex, human gestures. This woman is unsurpassed.

No. 1 The Walking No. 2 Sgt. Pepper No. 3 On the Threshold of a Dream (Moody Blues)
I forgot how much I love her and her music.
She's so amazing. I meet her after one of her shows. So loving and endearing. A truly wonderful person, I can't express how wonderful this woman is! One of the best high lights of my life!
The hand reaching for a shadow hand. So poignant. Such heartbreaking song.
Take a step and pull back
People pushing past me.

Every now and then things
Become clear

An endless stream of
Endless dreams

Art.
I discovered Jane Siberry through k.d. lang. Beautiful.
I love this song more every time I listen to it.
Simply hypnotic and intoxicating. One of these rare songs that you wish would just go on and on and on...
The image sequence starting at 1:19 is absolute artistry. So simple, poignant, conveys the heartbreak perfectly.
She is wonderful. I love her music, very special.
Jane’s music has a special place in my heart. Very emotionally raw.
I saw her live at Massey Hall with band, backup singers Rebecca Campbell and Rebbeca Jenkins and she shared the stage so easily, but each musical phrase was beautifully arranged.
This song is sublime.
A musica tema do Filme nos Braços de um Assassino,na voz da Jane Siberry,é simplesmente maravilhosa!!!❤❤
Such an amazing song that gets right to that part of you that is so hard to define, (for me anyway). The whole thing just moves me.

Impressive, and yet so modest.
The song is about her breakup with bassist John Switzer. It's from back in the 80s when she was at her peak as far as I was concerned.
thanks for posting this, I didn't know it existed. I've listened to this album thousands of times back in the day. This song was the clarion call of my broken heart and got me through a lot. Thanks again for posting. I just love her music!
