A portable 120v ceramic heater is really handy when you are working in a cold environment, like when you are doing car or equipment maintenance in a garage or shop. This little heater can be placed right next to where you are working and make the work a lot more comfortable!

Our friends at Newair have provided us with a tool that we make a lot of use of when winter sets in. While we have a wood stove in our main shop, and our garage is insulated, there are times when having a small heater, with a fan assist, comes in REALLY handy!
We unboxed and put to work Newair’s NGH160GA00 Portable Ceramic 120v Electric Garage Heater. It’s compact, with dimensions of about 8-½” ( 22 cm), x 8-½” ( 22 cm) x 10-¼” ( 26 cm), and weighing right at 6 lbs (2.72 kg).
The small size and light weight make it really handy to transport and set up, without taking up much space or being heavy to carry.
The company says that this 1500-watt unit can heat up to 160 square feet (15 square meters), producing up to 5120 BTUs. Our experience is that this sounds about right, but to be honest, we aren’t generally trying to heat up a full space, just us, what we are working on, and a small space right around us!
We like that you can swivel the unit to aim it where you like, and the carrying handle is on the top, with the controls situated just ahead of the handle. Everything seems to be where it should be.
We also like that the unit heats up right away. This is especially important when you just want to get to the job and don’t want to want for your heater to come up to temperature!
Here’s something we think you’ll like as well. Even though the ceramic heating plate and the fan go to work right away producing plentiful heat, the outside of the heater stays comfortable to the touch. Nice!

I bought a Newair unit but opted for the 220V 5600 watt unit that heats up to 800 sq ft. Heats up my 24x24 shop in a short amount of time and it was under $150 with tax from Amazon.
I guess the unit you are testing is OK for a small room (16x10 or so?) or as you say a small area, but it could cost a fortune to run as it would probably never shut off if it were in a 2 car garage area.

If you're using it with an extension cord, keep your fire extinguisher handy!
