- If you're looking for a way to easily heat your 2 car garage or shop, check out today's video featuring the NewAir G73 17,000 BTU Electric Heater. The secret to this compact heater producing the high heat output is the double coil feature that's shown in the video. The heater has a thermostat stitch, so it safely heats your workspace without needing any propane or kerosene fuel. The beautiful thing is that it puts out clean heat, so no need to ventilate the work area. To find out more, click on this link or ask me your questions.

Thanks for watching and supporting my channel! I want to say a big thank you to the NewAir Company for sponsoring this video. Thanks for watching, there will be more shop improvement videos to come!
If I had a garage like yours, I'd be doing repairs for others just for the fun of it, may even skip dinner... occasionally... Great product too!
Thanks! I often skip meals when grinding on projects.
Great review! I just installed 2 of them they are very sturdy little units. I actually put one in my basement. Both run off a 30amp switch purchased at Lowe’s for 12 dollars
They sure come in handy this time of the year! I like that I can just flip a switch in my garage for heat.
Just ordered this unit for my garage can't wait to install it
Awesome, let me know how it goes for you.
Looks cool. I have a little garage where we are working on a go kart build. This will be perfect this winter when it gets depressingly cold.
It's nice having clean heat in the garage.
QUESTION OF THE DAY: What minimum temperature do you need a work shop in the winter? Do you get energized during the winter by going into a shop, garage, or work room?
That was a pretty awesome entrance to the garage! Love the video! Keep it up
Thank you, It's great to hear that!
Wow a pointer, you're what they call, a professional.
Haha, one I built myself out of a broken pool cue.
@@MarkThomasBuilder so with that double 30amp breaker has it popped off yet? Was wondering if i needed a 40 or 50amp also my garage is insulated and i was wanting to have a thermostat
Yeah those kerosene torpedo heaters are great in a new construction that’s sorta open but even there the fumes could be over whelming. We even used the old type Salamanders with the chimney way back while framing for heat.
I know that type of heater. It puts out good heat, but you’ll get light headed after being in it too long.
Super helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Ha Ha, I have the same led remotes. The G73 we be mine soon . Thanks for the video!
Cool! You bet, glad to help!
Do u think I can put this in a mobilr home, its one a those big ones 15 feet wide 70 feet long, do u think it be safe geees to put a central is a ton of money? Thanks
My kids graduated from GVSU. As for temp in the shop....I like at least 60 degrees.
Awesome! We keep our house at 68 degrees in the winter, so 60 seems like a decent minimum for working in the shop.
Awesome video! As soon as I saw your face and heard your voice, I recognized you did SPX3000 review - Lol
I heard that before that I have a recognizable voice, lol!
Thinking about installing 2 of these in my 3 car garage.
I like the nice clean heat that it provides and no fuel to go buy or run out of. If you do, let me know how it works out. Thanks!
markthomasbuilder currently I use a 68,000 BTU Dewalt forced air propane heater and it heats the garage very quickly. I do also have a carbon monoxide detector in there and it has never registered any CO in years of use. It’s just annoying running out of propane, and would also be awesome just to flip the switch!
My shop/garage is about 200sf, have the 220. And the cold central Oregon winter. Should work fine.
I'd say so.
Great vid thanks ! Looking for one and this might be it ! Seems like it would be easy to attach a plug to the cable ? I have a 240 outlet in the wall I requested in the new home
Sounds like a good idea to have that 240 outlet installed. I put mine on a switch and it works well.
@@MarkThomasBuilder was surprised to see my own comment a year ago just had to give an update ! I ended up going with the dr heater 975. Turns out it draws 31.5 amps and requires a 40a breaker and 8awg cable. My builder ran 10awg on a 30a breaker. So now I’m running 8awg through the basement to the drywall and up to where I’m going to mount it.
Question for you is where did you find a good direction was to aim the heater ? There is very little info out there on how to direct the heat except for a few diagrams that show to aim it at the garage doors. 👍🏼👍🏼
Your welcome
I am just like that,if set in the house I fall asleep and then be up all night but when I’m in the garage time fly’s
Thanks for the information. Are the wall of your garage insulated? Dan
Yes, they're 2x4 walls insulated with R-13. I didn't insulate the ceiling though.
Yes sir I do as well lost time it’s like aim in my own dimension lol
Nothing like spending time in a shop building something or fixing something!
cool work shop
Thank you! I have to say, it's worth the effort to build an organized work area.
nice video, got a question there is no on/off on this heater just a thermostat but can this run off a switch (similar to a light)? So when it off , its off and when its on it kicks on based on the thermostat setting.
Yes, that's the setup I have where I put a light switch in a nearby outlet. When I flip it on, the heater comes on since I have the thermostat set on the heater already.
My garage is about 200 Square feet. I use it as my home gym and with the weather beginning to drop I need a good heater in there to warm up the space. Do you think it will warm it up to about 66 - 70 degrees? I would turn it on an hour before I begin my workout. My garage is an attached garage with cinderblock walls (neighbor one side, foyer/mud room on the other side, and basement on back wall. Thank you for the video and for your feedback!
Yes, it should heat 200 sq ft just fine.
Nice lid.
Haha, thank you! 🙌
Since you only turn the heat on when you'll be out there, can I assume you keep any paint or glues in a constantly heated environment? We're at about 5500' in Colorado and if the shop wasn't constantly heated way too much stuff would freeze. But we're moving to a smaller, unheated one and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth running gas to it. If this electric heater ran 12 hours/day, it would cost just over $1K for about a 5 month season to keep the inside about 60F. I'm glad it's working for you though, and the ambiance is fantastic!
I try to bring paints and glues inside the house for the winter season, since I only run the heater while I'm in there.
Steven Seagal is the heater in his shop he runs in circles until shop is warmed uP then hits the Buffet.......
Would this heater be okay for outside, underneath a large A frame/California style patio cover? It would be completed covered from rain.
As far as I know, this is just for indoors. You would have to check with the manufacturer to see about it working under an A frame patio.
I just came across Dimplex heaters. They make a outdoor unit that looks perfect for your situation.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Thank you so much! I will look into it. 👍
It's made in China. I'm looking for a heater that is made in the US to help the US economy going. There is King's heater but I thought I'd check your channel. Your work station is impressive. I can see that you take good care of your tools.
Thanks for stopping by! I've reviewed some Mr. Heater brand heaters and I know they make one like this. I don't their company is in the US, but I'm not sure where they're manufactured.
Now that this video is about a year old, what did you notice with your electric bill? I want to keep the heat just above freezing through the winter, then turn it up higher when I'm working in there but I don't know if the bill will go through the roof or not. 5000w might be $0.34/hr ($244/m) if the unit is on 24hrs a day, but I wonder how often it will kick on to keep the temperature around 35-40°F. If it only kicks in for about 4hrs a day to keep it at that temperature it might not be that bad, like $40/m.
My friends with natural gas heaters say they barely noticed an increase in their bill. Maybe $5-10/m but the unit, parts, ventilation, etc will be $2000-3000 where as this unit I could install myself for $600 or less, but could be more expensive to operate long term.
I've been using a wood stove to heat my house for the past 7-8 years and last winter I ended using my furnace primarily due to time constraints. It's hard for me to gauge how much the garage heater changed my electric bill. I know that it's gone up some, but it's much cheaper than running my Big Buddy Propane heater which is $20 each time the tank runs out.
did you cut out the part where you went outside and watched the meter spin?
Haha, it's not as bad on the electric bill as I thought. If I heat my garage with propane, that get's kinda expensive.
I’m the exact same way! Go to the garage to get my energy
Awesome!
Do you still like it? I’m thinking of getting one to heat my 9x14 foot motorcycle room. How much of an overkill would this be?
It would warm it up nicely. You can always turn down the thermostat to keep from overheating it.
Nice place
Thank you!
This has to be powered by 220? I was hoping to take one of my garage lights out and wire it there
Yes, it's 220. I reviewed one of their 110v heaters, but it's not anywhere near the power of this.
didn't know that when i bought it, glad i didn't pay full price lol
Electric heat is convenient but very expensive here - we pay around $0.15/KWH. 5000 watts = 17,000 btu approx. At full bore it’s going to draw about 23A of current which would cost almost $1/hr w fees taxes etc. and my garage shop would require 3 of these to hold 60 degrees in Jan/Feb. That’s $25/day.for 8 hrs.
Yikes, that's expensive. Do you live in the US?
Id like to know the same.
How is it at 35 degree nights?
I use a Big Buddy heater for under my workbench, since it's near a drafty overhead door. The 2 together in a 2.5 garage works well.
Hello I been looking at many youtube videos about this heaer and many people said their electricity went up quiet a bit:( If I buy this electric heater I will be only using it when I play pool in my garage which is once or 2x a month for about 6 or 7 hours. Since I have natural gas I wanted to install a natural gas heater but this sounds expensive to tap into the gas line or run a gas line to garage. However I think on the long run it will be cheaper that the electric heater???
Some people on you tube said it went up to $100 dollars a month others said about $30 or $40?? Anyways I will be installing a 240V outlet into my garage since I will also be getting a used electric car and need to charge it. So if I decide to get this electric heater I will already have an outlet for it. On the videos I see people installing the electric heater high in the ceiling usually on the corner. If i get electric heater can I just use an extension cord to plug it in or iwill it be better if I just install 240V outlet close to ceiling where heater will be?
Hi, I notice that this is cheaper than running my propane heater which easily goes through a 20lb tank in a week or less when I'm in there regularly. The electric heat doesn't add moisture, which is good for painting or staining. There's no fumes to worry about either.
As far as the monthly charges, I can't give you an accurate number because I use my wood stove on a irregular basis and it throws monthly bill off. If I use the wood stove all the time, the furnace barely runs or it runs much less. I don't think you'll notice it going up too drastic for pool playing a few times a month.
@@MarkThomasBuilder thank u
I HAVE THE SAME HEATER SENDING IT BACK CAUSE OF THE RED LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON THAT IS A OVER HEAT LIGHT SHOULD BE TURNED OFF WHEN LIGHT COMES ON DANGER OF FIRE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE HEATERS . IT IS NOT A ON/OFF LIGHT .I WOULD HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER ON STANDBY , THOSE COILS LOOKED PRETTY HOT . BUT THANKS FOR YOUR REVIEW ANYWAY.
Thanks for the warning. I'll have to look at mine and the instructions again. The heater seems pretty safe to me and has good reviews.
hi its mw again what did get all the light for your shop
Hey good to hear from you again! I bought dimmable LED lights at Home Depot.
@@MarkThomasBuilder yay Make a glow
Oh, I forgot about the LED strip lights I have in my work corner. I have approximately 60' of those that run on a remote control where I can change the colors. Pretty fun.
Oh I saw your remote on video your good have a good night
@@MarkThomasBuilder I forgot what is the watt rating for your heater from 240V
all the tools look brand new never used?
I've purchased some duplicates of my favorite tools to put on the wall. I also have some long-time use tools in a toolbox and some at my work.
Can I get a 1 year update? Do you still recommend this?
Yes, it's still going strong. I also use my Mr Heater Big Buddy sometimes under my work table. It's nice to have the extra warmth at the floor in my work corner.
@@MarkThomasBuilder I'm sitting in front of my big buddy right now. Thanks for the reply. Its getting cold in Ohio and I'm looking for a bigger heater.
@@MrHarleyreinke Another thing to mention is that electric heat is better if you're not wanting moisture added to the air like propane does. I'm doing some drywall and painting in my garage and the electric heat is ideal for drying time.
@@MarkThomasBuilder definitely sounds like I'm sold on this heater.
How much of a race in your electric bill did you notice
Hi, I haven't really looked that close to my utility bills. It didn't seem too bad from what I noticed. I know my LP heater was approximately $300 in fuel for winter heating my garage. I'm not in there every day, but a couple hours at a time.
@@MarkThomasBuilder ok, thank you for info.
Raise
Talks about winter in april🤣
Michigan still gets snow in April, no joke.
@@MarkThomasBuilder we do here in north dakota too
The coils shouldn't be glowing red hot. If it's more efficient. If I were to buy a garage heater, I would look for one with steel spiral fins on the elements. The coils will last longer, as they will run cooler while giving off the same amount of heat.
Interesting, I'll have to look at other heater to see what you're describing. All I can say is that I'm happy with this clean electric heat.
Made in China was all I needed to see. NEXT
You read my mind.
Tom Land and what is new these days Large corporations have moved to other countries to negate the higher labor prices in the USA. Corporate greed is the reason for so many imported goods.
@@danbailey96 I agree but that doesn't mean I have to support that company with my hard earned dollar.
Seems like you spent a lot of money on the heater. Then spent even more to hire having the wiring done. And if you did a little more research you would save yourself some money. Have you seen the Veito carbon infared heater? Using a 110 outlet and puts out some heat for $400.
It's an investment where it hurts once as far as the purchase goes. It's nice having a ceiling mount heater. I'm curious to see how an infared heater works.
I would also like to echo the previous comment about buying and hyping something made in China. Since you never mentioned how much the unit cost in the first place, but yet using your name will get us viewers 20% off, it smacks of a biased review to me. Many of your fellow "reviewers" are much more transparent with the fact that they get a kickback from the manufacturer if the viewers buy one of these things and use your name. For me, the theatrics were a waste of my time when all I wanted to find out is info on the electric heater was any good or not. Showing off your cool shop might have been better left to a separate video. If you're happy with your heater, then so be it, but I found in interesting that you and your pointer went line by line on the outside of the box describing what's in there and specifications, but conveniently skipped over the line that said Made In China. If the unit has a warranty on it, I've forgotten whether you mentioned that or not.
Having said that, for me, something as important as with regards to heat and electricity are involved I wouldn't trust something that could potentially burn down my shop/house to something made overseas. If the cheap heater is all your viewers can afford that's one piece of the puzzle. By the looks of your shop, it certainly appears that you could have afforded the extra hundred dollars to buy an American product and to quote a friend of mine, " Buy the best and only cry once". BTW, I bought a King 7.5kw heater to replace my 45 year old Dayton 5kw. It was $469 at Menards, but the equivalent Dayton was over $600. Both made in the US.
Since I have removed the 8" flue wood stove ( that could generate 800 degrees F with a full firebox) from my shop because I'm getting a bit old to be splitting wood, adding insulation to the walls and fixing the air leaks in my stand alone 24x28' shop, 7500watts should keep things comfy here in Northeast Iowa where it can get down to -20F in the winter time. Good luck with your future videos on UA-cam.
I like the idea of having a wood stove in my shop, but it's also nice being able to just flip on a switch if I only plan to be in there an hour. I heat my house with a furnace and a wood stove, working together and you're right, it's a lot of work. I like the tradition of running chainsaws and splitting/stacking firewood, but the convenience of an electric heater is nice too.
I'll have to look at the heaters you mentioned at Menards the next time I'm there. It seems like so many things you buy are now made in China, so I apologize for not pointing that out. I think the 7500 watt heater you're running will keep you warm, there in Iowa. It sounds like it gets colder there than here in Michigan.
Spent too much money on tops
Do not buy this unit. I have had “2” of these units fail in the last six months. The last one only operated for three weeks.....
I have one it’s GARBAGE! One to two or more hours to heat…..pure junk!
Most unimpressive garage ever
Haha, I'm working on it.
I am very disappointed with the G73 by NewAir. I have had “2” units fail within the last 6 months. The last unit did not last 30 days.
I can not recommend this heater.
Oh wow, sorry to hear that. Did you find a replacement brand? Mine is still working.
