    Brings back memories of my Mod 1. Flawless on a CB500F. It was terrifying being locked in that arena, I felt so much pressure and stress

    Passed Mod 1 in the rain last week...I know its easy to say once its done, but the secret really is to relax and treat it as as if you are doing one of your practice tests.Flow with the bike and dont tense up or the bike will fight against you.Thats what I dodne when i failed Mod 1 the first time.Good luck to everybody...and to me for my Mod 2: 22nd Oct : Note to self..."relax Scott!" :0)

    I've got my mod one on the 14th, and mod two on the 18th....bricking it tbh.... I haven't been on a bike for 2-3 months after an accident...funny how after an accident I want to have a bigger bike, but there we are. But can anyone tell me on the first bit where you put down the stand, does it have to be the main? or can it be the site stand? seriously im weak as f*ck. Cheers

    On the slow slalom test those cones are spread out quite generously.
    There are much closer to each other on the Dutch cone exam.

    Very smooth...just great quality as always!
    Remember years and years ago when i first did mine another dude who had virtually 0 bike experience has not only locked the back wheel... but our instructor literally had to jump out of the way (just in case) he did well over 50 MPH and stopped using only back break! how he didn't come off is still the mystery to this day... i can still smell the burnt tyre if I close my eyes:D poor sod, he didn't pass...not that attempt anyways.

    @goldendisc I find on our CG125 and YBR125 if we thrash the guts out of it in 2nd it gets to 30ok but how your particular bike does it,only you know.Changing to 3rd too early will ruin any chance of decent acceleration so make sure your revs are at the top of the range if you have to change to 3rd don't do it too early or you'll lose drive. If you still can't get there because of your "portlyness" it may be worth contacting a school to see if they can rent you another 125.Good luck.

    @RockSmith92 I really can't answer individual questions like that as I haven't seen you ride. Any training will help. My pupils watch my uploads over and over again and I still have to give them personal instruction for their particular riding skills and mistakes. You're MUCH more likely to pass 1st time with instruction, these uploads are really for general guidance.

    @G00g284 I would always advise training, remember, module two training isn't just for you to get a piece of paper to allow you to ride a bigger bike, it's to save your life one day, and I guarantee it will. I've trained class 1 police officers who couldn't believe how much more they could learn. It'll be money well spent, trust me. Good luck.

    i was told that your not allowed to put your foot down on the figure of 8, and also that I must stay within the blue cones on the figure of 8, I did my first days mod 1 training today 28/12/14, this video states that you are allowed to put your foot down on the figure of 8.

    • @lukexr125
      @lukexr125 9 років тому +2

      it could be read that way, it means "take it wide so you don't have to put your foot down" which as you rightly say, isn't allowed (edit: you can go around a yellow cone if you need more room. When he reverses bike into parking bay he crosses feet in-front of other, which i was told is a minor each time you do that; danger of tripping self. He also scoots with his foot when he slows to a stop which shows lack of control. Hope this helps anyone who is unsure)

    I got my licence in 5 days, although I was too young for DAS and took my test on a 125. I had no previous experience of bike or car.The advantage, in my opinion is that you don't have time to forget things between lessons, and you get very used to being in the saddle so that you remember the feel of the controls, etc.It's definitely favourable to taking CBT and then wobbling around by yourself for 2 years like some people!

  • @RoadcraftNottingham

All the schools around me are saying a 4 day beginner course and auto to gear conversion £700 which seems expensive. would it be possible to buy my future bike and practice on private land which my dad owns? how else could I do this? I would love to just take the test myself my concern is the practice and getting a big bike for the test? your videos are great so thanks

    Passed my mod 2 on Wednesday, was talking to the examiner afterwards and he said that he'd had to fail all 5 of the mod 1 tests he'd done that morning, I asked if 'cos of the storm, he said "no, they were all just crap - the standard is incredibly low at the moment, as everyone between 21 & 24 rushes to get qualifed before the age limit on DAS changes in a month." Interesting really as for someone who practiced lots (me) the mod 1 was very easy, not scary or tricky at all.

    I couldn't get the speed on the first run.On the second i caned it.Must have been doing 35mph past the trap :)
    I just slammed the anchors on as much as i could without locking up and pulled the clutch in once i stopped.
    I found it a bit of a harsh manouvre tbh.Felt like i had to take the bend too fast to hit the speed and once i came out of the swerve,there didn't seem as much room to stop safely as i'd have like normally.
    Managed to pass though

  • @deitydan
    @deitydan 12 років тому

    Oh, one other thing, the two show-off 17 year olds who were in the queue ahead of me who did tiny figure of eights, the corner at silly speed etc., both failed because they locked up the rear wheel on the emergency stop. It was raining and they couldn't stop their bikes under pressure in a controlled manner, so it was correct that they shouldn't be given passes, but they would have probably passed if they weren't showing off and trying to go through the speed trap as fast as possible.

  • @deitydan
    @deitydan 12 років тому

    On the swerving exercise at the end, and in fact on the others (except I presume, the emergency stop), do you need to change down through each gear as you come to a stop, or can you just pull the clutch in as you stop and sort out first gear or neutral once you are stationary? Am asking with respect to what is examined in the mod 1, not worried about what is sensible - obviously when normally riding I would prefer to be in an appropriate gear and so would down-shift sensibly as I slow down.

    what a great circuit, i did mine last sunday in pouring rain and wind at a vosa mot testing station for hgvs, so the surface was shit to say the least lose marbles of tarmac and plenty of wet leaves, this is Hastings in East Sussex. Anyone who is taking it there in the wet be very aware of the E Stop, I locked up just ever so slightly at the end of the stop but i was under control so only got a minor.

    It's all about promotion of health and safety on the road. If you crash or skid to a stop, jeans and trainers are not going to save your legs or feet, are they? So you need to have decent boots and armoured trousers. Most appropriate clothing hardware will be available at all good motorcycle dealerships for you to browse. Then once you have a good idea of what you should be wearing on a motorcycle, have a browse on Ebay for a more extensive range of interesting fashions and designs!

    @RoadcraftNottingham Unfortunately my tax disc decided it didn't want to join me for my MOD 1 test and fell off somewhere between leaving home and getting to the test centre, so I couldn't do it today. I got there early and got to watch a few others doing their tests though, and the instructors were very helpful and gave me a few pointers. I'd recommend others to go and watch people doing their test, it helps you see how not to do things too.

  • @Jackrabbit4520
    @Jackrabbit4520 11 років тому

    I'm shocked by the comment, If you put your foot down you could fail the test. Why's that then? Surely it must be better to maintain control of the bike at all times and if you feel the need to stabilise the bike by placing one or both feet down as an alternative to dropping the bike, then I would have thought that was a positive rather than a negative action.

    Im only on a CBT atm, and i life saver etc all the time just so when i do my test is already natural. A view of my mates have just done there Mod 1s/2s and they all had to keep being reminded to check their shoulders and mirrors, just simple stuff. I find most people my age, 17, past their CBT then think they're Casey Stone on a 125cc

  • @mr420B

    @ENGLANDRULES12345 i think you're confused with the restricted license- which you take mod 1 and 2 of the test, but because you are under 21 you have to be restricted to 33bhp ( kits can be fitted onto any size bike) for 2 years or until you're 21- as it stands if you are 17 and have a cbt you can ride a 125cc without any further test!

Also difficult to judge speed when you are not accustomed to 650cc bike. any help much appreciated. Thanks

    Question: I have a cruiser which needs a lot of room to do figure of 8 and U-turn... if need be, can I use much more room for the slalom and figure of 8... and can I do a turn in the road (three point turn) like in a car practical test if I run out of room for the U-turn?

    dreading this module 1 test. im a very tall rider, and feel i may struggle with the off bike manouvers. i remmber in my CBT, when doing shoulder checks before moving off, you had to put your hand on the back of the bike, is that not needed now or, was it ever?

    I have my test on Thursday and I'm a bit worried about getting up to speed. My Yamaha SR 125 struggles with my... umm... "generousness" (I'm fat :P) and 20mph to about 30mph in second gear takes a precious couple of seconds... The video was very useful though, and hopefully I'll manage it :)

  • @mr420B

    @ENGLANDRULES12345 yeah its something like that i beleive but a lot of 125cc are less than that with the exception of things like the aprillia rs, honda nsr etc which can apparently be derestricted an be 33bhp- but of course you would need your restricted for that

    How does this relate to riding on the street?
    The more tests costing time and money are going to put people off riding.
    Took my test 30 or so years ago at the Arnold test center just before it moved to Gedling. one lap in each direction around the busy streets ,emergency stop in the middle of the street 3 questions on the highway code and done all on a borrowed mz 125
    If I had to deal with this BULL*H*T well i just wouldnt.
    Shortly after doing this I relocated to southern California still ride today

    No I can't afford training. They want me to pay £500 for training. Mod 1 training was £200. Mod 2 is £300. Mod 1 training lasted for 3 hours, Mod 2 training would last for 6 hours. So I thought fuck that, I'd rather fail my test and retake it several times then pay out half a grand in practice. It's nerve wracking waiting for the test, but what I did was arrive 45 minutes early, that way I could watch other people taking their tests. Put me at ease watching them make mistakes but still passing.

  • @IGCNightmare
    @IGCNightmare 12 років тому

    Passed with no faults :) Was so nervous at the start, but I eased up when the instructor couldn't get his words out correctly which made me laugh. And I was fine after that :) And I was passing through the emergency stop and hazard avoidance at 37Mph so was quite confident of my speed lol Mod 2 booked for 7th December now. *Fingers crossed* it all goes smoothly and I can get rid of these L's.

    Thank you for the video, in comparison to dutch parking lot test this looks really easy. We have minimum speed for most exersizes, figure of eight and u turn have smaller radius and you have to lean the bike while staying upright, not allowed to use clutch. the avoidance we have to take at 50 km/h and move over around 4 meters in 25 meters and then another 4 meters back in 25 meters.
    Its great to see a differnt system :) thanks!

    HI Russ, emergency stop question. I was originally taught to not pull the clutch in until right at the end of the emergency stop, so now when practising about 20% of the time I am stalling the bike. I passed mine the first time a few weeks ago, since then i've seen lots of people fail for two reasons, main reason is not doing life savers whenever pulling off, whenever you move the bike even an inch while seated you must do a life saver even before you get into the test field, two - skidding on the avoidance, i've seen guys skid 7 meters.

    Hi, so you need to be wearing motorcycle trousers or you can't do the test? I always do but just checking the rules because I think it is good they are encouraging it:)
    BTW, great videos, I have learnt a lot :D

    What do you mean by, 'if you wear trousers and shoes?' You mean you have to wear proper motorbike trousers and shoes, instead of say, jeans and trainers?

    Failed first time because I couldn't get my gn125 up to speed on the hazard avoidance etc, having said that it was -3c, second attempt tomorrow.

    @mr420B but with a cbt and riding a 125cc motorcycle the bike would have to be restricted to like 15bhp anyway wouldnt it?

    I noticed that on the avoidance test in the pov the rider indicated when going around the cones. Is this required?
