Damn this guy's good! Just passed mine and I was sweating and out of breath just manually moving the bike, I was so wobbly moving it. Still passed with no minors. Awesome video I hope it helps others like it did for me.
I said to the other guy I was on my MOD 1 test with, that this place looks like a place I've seen on videos on UA-cam. Low and behold it is! We both passed! Thanks for the video, definitely helped!
Just got back from doing my module 1 (30 miles there, 30 miles back, on busy roads, to do exercises in a car park). Your video and the notes were really really helpful - thank you.
Crispin Owen Excellent! Well done Owen. Good luck with the Mod 2. I found the Mod 2 far easier as it's more natural out on the road. Plus the examiners aren't looking to fail you. They just wanna make sure you're being safe and aware.
It's so much easier than you think Julie. Just swivel your head around and your body will naturally lean the bike into the u-turn. Grip your knees into the fuel tank and push down on the footpegs to really give yourself more self confidence & stability.
Big up to Mungo's Motorbike School in South London who recommended me this MOD1 video to watch for extra guidance, as I may soon transition to a 600cc Motorbike. An extremely talented Man that will help you pass. I've also heard positive feedback about Tina and Ossie's Motorbike School also. Thanks for the upload.
I did my CBT with Ossie at A2Z :) Excellent instructor, great school! Unfortunately I can't do DAS there, but nice to see Ossie explaining MOD1 before my test :)
thanks for this, watched it several times before my mod 1 test today and passed - failed it last week due to skid on emergency stop, but this week all fine.
the swerve and emergency stop would be a lot simpler if more real-life, i.e. driving in a straight line at a steady 50 kmh for a while. Having to accelerate hard up to the speed-trap is difficult and unnatural, but your tips def helped. So cheers again !!
It's ok making a video about mod 1 but twice when moving off you forget to do your checks but all in all wasn't bad and Was that your actual test or a practice
Interesting regarding the figure 8 how you can ride past the yellow slalom cone? That would be a fail here. :-) Here in Northern Ireland a learner must pass between the figure 8 cones and the last slalom cone. (Not only that but there is a set width as well as distance after the fig 8 cones of only a few metres. This particular exercise looks a lot easier in the UK.
learn2rideVIDEOS I did double check this with both my instructor and examiner. And yes the Enfield Test Centre allows you to pass on the outside of the last yellow cone. Some other test centres within the UK might be more strict on this. To be honest there's plenty of space within the blue cones to do the figure of 8 but my instructor advised me to use the space available. I've noticed some other slight differences between the UK and Ireland tests from watching your great videos. :-)
I was much more anxious about the Mod 1 than the Mod 2. But practising within the test-centre was a massive confidence boost. And the examiner was very laid back and friendly. I aced the test except for the Swerve test which I had to do a second time because first time was slightly under the 50kph.
learn2rideVIDEOS Yep, passed the Mod 1 first time with 1 minor (having to repeat the swerve) and then passed the Mod 2 the same day again with 1 minor (late cancelation of indicators) I then went out and bought a BMW F800s straight away and have since upgraded to a Triumph Tiger 800. I've said it before but yours and Roadcraft Nottingham's training videos were a massive help before I started my 5 day DAS course.
Christ! My motorcycle is heavy as hell. Manually moving it from the side is a challenge to say the least! Time hit the gym and practice shoving my bike around!
MrEye4get I found that at the start but it just means you’re not moving it right once show the proper technique it was still heavy but it isn’t a challenge
Don't think of it as a chore. Think of it as a challenge that makes you a better rider when you do nail it. I loved all the training and tests coz it felt like a personal challenge to overcome. And improve my skills.
@@ChewieOnTwoWheels I passed all my tests 4 days ago, getting my license next week. 😁 Now I can practice in peace at my own pace, without any pressure.
I don't think the bike moving part at the begiining is right...I did a mod 1 at Enfield and the bike had to be reversed out of the bay in to the second bay ie. walking the bike backwards and not how this is showing it?
+Conrad Mason nope. apparently not, you can do however you want(within reason). I'm being taught that method because of height issues. My instructor clarified it that you may move the bike however you prefer it as long as you do your observation and not hit the cone.
That's a new one on me I'll check it with my instructor and get back to you not that I'm disputing what you say I'd just like a second opinion he's away currently so I'll try and leave a reply soon as thanks for your interesting reply.
+Conrad Mason fair enough. it's actually being taught for quite awhile now, county rider training has a mod1 video tut on here which also teaches the same technique. Though my fellow trainee, he only does the reverse manoeuvre which makes me jealous but being 5'4 57kg against a 200kg bandit, I struggle to do just that. Although I did the manoeuvres on a slight slope it's tiring. I'll get a definitive answer soon though as I'll be doing the test this weekend.
I don't doubt it... maybe my instructor's behind the times... as I said I'll have a word with him when I see him next. All the best for the test and thanks for the replies.
AJ NGUYEN I can only tell you what I did: Once the bike is rolling I needed little to no throttle (on a 600cc bike). The power of the engine from feathering out the clutch kept me rolling. You can apply a slight bit of throttle if you think you're going too slow to maintain your balance, but clutch control is the key thing on these slow speed tests.
I have my mod 1 in two weeks and my figure of eights aren't too bad but my instructor said you can't pass behind the yellow cones while doing it. Could you clarify the rules if you know them? Thanks
You'll notice I've responded to other comments about that. The figure of 8 boundaries are at the discretion of each test centre. My test centre allowed to go outside the yellow cones during the figure of 8. Others insist you stay inside. Check with your instructor. If they say stay inside stay inside just to be safe.
chanothebest Everything you need to know about the licenses can be found here: www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped/bike-categories-ages-and-licence-requirements At your age you need to have the A2 license for a minimum of 2 years then you can apply for a Progressive Access to unrestricted motorcycles. Hope that helps.
+SpartanHDX You don't need to remember the order the manoeuvres are done in. The examiner will ask you to do each one by name. And also if you're unsure you can ask them to fully explain what they expect to see you do for each. Cheers.
is MOD 1 really this short? or did your instructor just want to go through everything quickly for you? because i was told it would take about 20 minutes normally

Is the circuit always right handed, i.e the cornering part of the circuit? got my mod1 in the morning, hoping mine is the right hand circuit as thats the one ive been practising on.
Stevie Moto good question. it's actually laid out symmetrically so that on the day the examiner can choose whether they want you to go clockwise or anti-clockwise. they randomise it as far as I'm aware. Good luck today

Stevie Moto congrats Stevie. I had the same. 1 minor for being 2 or 3 mph under for the avoidance. I did my Mod 2 directly after the Mod 1. I found the Mod 2 more casual/natural than Mod 1
These guys are instructors and not test examiners? Can a learner rider practice with his/her instructor in a test centre area used for conducting motorcyle tests in the UK? :-)
learn2rideVIDEOS yeah this was Ossie my instructor. And as part of the 5 day DAS course, he rented a time-slot on an off-day (when the centre is closed for tests). Much more confidence boosting when you get to practise on the actual course you'll be tested on!
That's very cool AND makes sense. I wish we could do that here in Northern Ireland it would really help put new riders at ease. You've given me an idea: I'm going to suggest this to the DVLA here in NI. Thanks for uploading Chewie. :-)
Do you have any idea how much it cost to rent the area please? :-) Just wondering. Here in NI the test is £31 per person and each mod 1 usually lasts around half an hour max. I do agree that training on the course is a fantastic way to go!
heh and this is only module 1. Next is the road test :P Then you've also got the eyesight test, the computer based questionnaire (theory) test. The hazard perception test (also on the computer where you watch video clips and get scored for how many hazards you spot) AND before you can do any of that you need to take basic training (which is equivalent to what Americans take to get their actual license rofl)
