As far as DEF goes, I can only comment on the trucking side as that’s all I’m familiar with. The DEF and SCR system in general isn’t really the issue. It’s the DPF and Regen system that causes the problems. DEF actually does create a much cleaner exhaust as the chemical reaction happens. The DPF system being an actual filter that gets clogged is the big problem and is apparently unneeded going off of tests from overseas. A few years ago there was even rumors of going to an SCR system alone and eliminating the DPF system.
I'm a test driver for a lift truck company. I completely agree about DPF and Regen. In my opinion it is ridiculous to have to park for 30 - 45 minutes while it cleans the system. I feel sorry for those who need to get things done, but can't. I guess I'm lucky that I'm only testing and not in any sort of production. Sidenote; I don't know about anyone else, but I can't even leave the truck unattended. As soon as I exit the truck, it shuts down and I have to start all over again. I learned that the hard way. 😋

emissions is a bit of irritating thing for me, when it involves semi trucks. the KW t800 at my work was in the shop almost every two weeks for an emissions related issue. we had it deleted and we gained horsepower, reduced fuel consumption by about 20 gallons a day, and the truck hasn't been in the shop for anything more than brakes and tires for over a year now
I had some of the emissions junk deleted on my pickup too. Some of it is still in place though. (i couldn't tell you what parts) I dont care to "roll coal" or send billows of black into the sky. I keep my foot out of it, and it seems to burn pretty clean and meet T1 emissions. Hey, I love that there is concern and an effort to help the environment, but I wish there was a better way...
@@wishusknight3009 I also think we should help the environment, what I have a hard time understanding is how burning 20 gallons a day more per truck is somehow better. means you have to pump more oil, refine more oil, transport more fuel they made somewhere in the neighborhood of 250,000 t800's and at 20 gallons a day fuel savings a day it 5,000,000 gallons A DAY now its just a rough figure but imagine if all the trucks in the US were that much more fuel efficient, wouldn't that make a bigger environmental impact than a little exhaust smoke?
@@mikes47jeep Well, from what I understand, burning more fuel to ensure that all the fuel is burned is going to result in gas emissions that are less harmful and can be dealt with by other means. Thanks for another great video. Most enjoyable. Waiting for the fields to dry up is a good time to do these odd jobs like you and dad are doing. Burning a pile of old trees and getting rocks out of the way is good job done. Appreciate the way you and your dad work together. Some do not have that. Your teamwork is great and a plus getting things done. The great relationship you and your dad have is a treasure. My compliments to your dad and you for the fine relationship you have. Just wonderful. The DNR is kind of hard to deal with at times. We got them stirred up once over burning. I think you dad did right by calling them, just avoids any issues. Just saying. Thanks for your filming and Becky for editing. My best to your dad. Very nice gentleman!!!! You too Zach!!!! Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for everything. The Iowa farm boy.
Hey just wanted to say I am very happy no one got hurt in y'alls storm up there. Machines and buildings are always replaceable. Hopefully its minor issues with the planter. Prayers.

Someone would really have to do something very bad to get your dad rialled up. He is so filled with pride, by watching his son and grandson taking ownership in the farm.
It's awesome watching how you and your dad work together. My dad n I are the same way. Work together so long you can almost tell what the other is going to say before they say it. Disagreements will always come up but it never really turns into a full out argument.
I bought a big skiddy that takes DEF, with about a 190 hours on it, its had a new scr injector, new def tank, they reprogrammed it twice and now its using the entire tank of def every 20-25 hours...so definitely something wrong again. But hey, it's good for our lungs for some reason.
You are so lucky to have a good relationship with your sweet dad. I never had that with my dad. I spent so much time avoiding conflict with him. He was very moody and the simplest thing could set him off. So not the ideal childhood.
Best way I know to get message to you. I saw your short video about your damage. Am so glad to hear all of you are ok and fine. So sorry to see your damage and destruction. Heartfelt in your loss. Sending my blessings to you Zach and your family and your dad. Take care. So sorry. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
Sorry for all damage the storms has done for u and other farmers in your area. Here in Sweden we are sure missing some spring rain. Glad that your family is alright.
I remember once when Zach forgot to order fuel and you guys ran out in the evening. You didnt film much of that and your face afterwords really gave it away. I fight with my dad too sometimes, its the way it goes.
We burn a lot of brush here in Montana, and typically they don’t allow burning during open burn because the pressure altitude is high and it pushes/keeps at low altitudes. Who knows though.
Zach; I'm not watching this till AFTER your IG post of 5/13/22; man I feel so bad for you guys to have been caught by that storm, just a real tragedy. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to all the damages.
Zack, your dad is so calm, and like most farmers of his generation, full of wisdom. My dad is the same way, although he's 84 years old now and getting frail, but I thank God for all he's taught me through my life. Cherish him while you can. Blessings from Ohio! PS. I love the Make Fertilizer Affordable Again shirt..just right for him!
Just want to give my two cents on the DEF question. It is a good thing. It helps protect the environment, we in the agriculture industry are more in tune with weather and nature and environment protection than most people, so we do need help with it, BUT, this is a big but, the current way to do it is creating problems for tractors. On trucks its mostly problem free, but, on tractors, because engine speed is a lot more variable it creates a lot of issues. I have the Distribution in Mozambique for Valtra and Massey Ferguson and I do have a lot of insider information. From engineers to factory mechanics to dealers the hate for DEF is real. I hope we get an alternative soon.
Dude I am so sad you were such a big farmer when I saw do go hams video I was what the Hollis this recently and yes poor you guys hopefully your farm well get well soon

We're in the same boat up here in Manitoba. Every time we think it's getting dry enough to get out in the field we get another big shot of rain. Ditches and low spots all look like lakes
North East Missouri report We gamble over a 4 day period beginning 4/25 and 710 acres of corn is popping out the ground. Thank God. Today we finished the last 200 of corn and conditions are good. Beans are coming up good but alot to go. We love the MFer here .

If my Dad had a dollar for every miscommunication he had with me while working on the farm, he would have retired by now. I learned that there are two ways to do things... 1. Dad's way 2. The wrong way
You echoed my exact thoughts. I lost my dad a few years back but that was the way it went whenever we would be on a project. I didn't get to work with him as much in my adult years 19 years plus as I left the area, but growing up I didn't get much of a input into things. LOL.

Who’s DJ and what’s his channel called?
@@crandonborth djgoham he’s a farm sim UA-camr.
Dad and I fought like cats and dogs. Always arguing and yelling around. But at the end of the day we still loved each other. I sure miss him being around.
Prayers.
what's the meme. "I can take anything you want to say to me, because as a kid I held a flashlight for my dad!"
As always great video guys. I seen you got hammered by some pretty heavy rain and storms yesterday. My radar app even showed a few spin ups with tornado warnings. Keep up the great work and thanks for bringing us along with you. Blessings to you and your family Zach.
@@Porter_9 I'm just glad they're ok. Even though it's a major set back, that stuff can be replaced.
Prayers for your farm and family. May the insurance pay for it all.
LOL! So glad you and your dad are “normal” farmers…miscommunication!!🤣 Yeah…we’re rock picking too in Kansas! We are done planting except where we are chopping rye silage. Thanks for sharing Zach! We hope for 5,000 subscribers…can’t even imagine 1M!!! Blessings to you from Kansas!
Just subscribe to your channel
I only have 500 subs...But I dont try very hard..
Great channel. Be patient and and keep up the hard work. It will be huge before you know it.
Just subscribed😁

Enjoy and remember every minute with your dad. Eventually all that’s left is the memories.
Someone would really have to do something very bad to get your dad rialled up. He is so filled with pride, by watching his son and grandson taking ownership in the farm.
Hope all family is safe Zach🙏🙏🙏
It's awesome watching how you and your dad work together. My dad n I are the same way. Work together so long you can almost tell what the other is going to say before they say it. Disagreements will always come up but it never really turns into a full out argument.
So sorry to see your shed ripped apart by the nader, but very thankful everyone was safe. Keep it between the rows.
I bought a big skiddy that takes DEF, with about a 190 hours on it, its had a new scr injector, new def tank, they reprogrammed it twice and now its using the entire tank of def every 20-25 hours...so definitely something wrong again. But hey, it's good for our lungs for some reason.
zero def, zero screens, zero gps, zero monitors...dont need or want them...just my opinion..
Can you get by with a 73hp machine? (ie. no def)
@@dfarmer_ I wish, need the flow rate and pressure its capable of.
@@blackopsrocks wow! what attachments do you use?
@@dfarmer_ rock saw and trencher.
You are so lucky to have a good relationship with your sweet dad. I never had that with my dad. I spent so much time avoiding conflict with him. He was very moody and the simplest thing could set him off. So not the ideal childhood.
We’re caught up playing the impassioned protagonist in our Subjective Narrative of Self 🎈
Just saw the storms that might be heading your way. Hope you and your family stay safe and no damage.
How did your dads yard turn out? Don’t think there was ever a update
Consider yourself very blessed to have a Dad that wants to see you succeed. My father not so much.
Steve.
Thanks Steve!
Thanks for the kind words. This videos of the damage and storm will be coming out this next week
Damn just saw your vid shorts on FB....So sorry for all the damage!!!! Saw my weather forecast and they were showing the storms over by you.
I'm going to subscribe 120,000 times so that doggy gets to ride. I don't know how, but let me think on it.
You dad is so Swedish in his ways. You can even hear little of the Swedish speechmelody when he speaks. Hes lovely!
Great vídeo Zach.
One of those times a 3 point mounted chisel plow on the back of the loader tractor would have been handy for ripping out the fence row.
You both remind me of my father and myself lol. Doing the same job but talking about it in two different ways 😂😂😂
Glad to hear you are all safe
DEF systems are the main problem with modern equipment
Semi trucks especially
Wow midway through watching this I just seen the Facebook post, so sorry to see all that damage😢
Dude I am so sad you were such a big farmer when I saw do go hams video I was what the Hollis this recently and yes poor you guys hopefully your farm well get well soon
@@Leoplayrblx literally just watched that and its why I am here. Man not a way to start the year and of course happening on Friday the 13th.
I was tought to have tough skin as a young age. I held the flashlight for both my grandfather and my dad and their is nothing that anyone could say the rest of my life that could affend me. Zack keep up the great videos and keep farming its a great life and I love how you make us apart of your everyday operation
We're in the same boat up here in Manitoba. Every time we think it's getting dry enough to get out in the field we get another big shot of rain. Ditches and low spots all look like lakes
Great video 👍 👍
North East Missouri report
We gamble over a 4 day period beginning 4/25 and 710 acres of corn is popping out the ground. Thank God.
Today we finished the last 200 of corn and conditions are good.
Beans are coming up good but alot to go. We love the MFer here .
I hope things get better for you. You'll get your corn in eventually.
Maybe.
Hay Zach I hope you and your family are ok keep the the faith you will get through this ok lm sick to see what happened to your farm good luck I'm praying for you all
An answer I’ve been waiting a long time for 😂
I'm happy you got an answer. Sorry that I don't know what the question was or answer was.
Your dad is a great man. Enjoy your time with him. He is a straight man and upfront about what he is thinking about.
Yeah thumbs 👍 👌 👏
That accent is Canadian
AvE like.
Seeing your post on ig, will really humble you and let you realize how good you have it. Praying for you guys up there
If my Dad had a dollar for every miscommunication he had with me while working on the farm, he would have retired by now.
I learned that there are two ways to do things...
1. Dad's way
2. The wrong way
You echoed my exact thoughts. I lost my dad a few years back but that was the way it went whenever we would be on a project. I didn't get to work with him as much in my adult years 19 years plus as I left the area, but growing up I didn't get much of a input into things. LOL.
