Wow! That was really fun! Now I want to go upstairs and find all my many, many wips up there. The oldest one I can remember was a little sweater for my 2 year old daughter with bunnies and carrots...and now she just turned 30!

Jana, I wasn’t able to watch your recent videos over the past few months, so binged those I missed (about half a dozen) over the past two days. It was so relaxing and peaceful that I have been going further back and re-watching others, like this one. Thank you for creating a warm, relaxing and enjoyable community for all of us. Many blessings to you and your lovely family.

I enjoyed watching this. I have been very sick with the Virus for 3 weeks, today is the first day I got on UTUBE. I was so careful to stay home and away from people and I still got it. Do to careless people that went to a concert and then invited my daughter and her boyfriend over to fix their washier knowing they were all sick. I can not taste or smell and this cough is so painful. I need to go through my WIPS and sort them out. I really love watching your videos.

Wow Jana, you have a lot of projects. Get rid of those 22 frogged projects and put the yarn back in stash and projects bags tidied away and that will be a weight off your shoulders. The 28 you want to finish is still a lot to work on though. ( there were a couple more that you were still not sure about, frog and give yarn away if you don’t love it) I would make a list and categorise them into socks, sweaters, blankets etc then work on one of each category and forget the rest for now until you have freed up a pair of needles. You will get through them easier that way. Good luck and show us how your progress goes. Loved the podcast but it was scary lol

    You DID IT!!!
I agreed with many of your choices to frog or knit.
I’d like Grandma’s basket project to stay in the keep column for the rest of the year. You could temporarily switch your daughter’s granny blanket with the long-term one since it looked much smaller and quicker to complete.
28 is a lot and there is always new yarn and patterns to be had.
    This was fun and inspiring.

Hey Jana, you could donate some of your projects/yarns to clean your headspace...like the fluffy sloppy long cardigan and your first sweater...and the old sock yarns in your basket. Donating makes happy and you can get rid of stuff you dont actually love 🙂 Residencys for elderly people could look for it- many elderly women with little money would appreciate sock yarns 🙂

Definately finish the Pink Andrea Mowery Sweater! Just do a couple rows a day and put it down so you dont get overwhelmed. That looks like it will be well worth it! Maybe for each project give yourself a deadline and strive for that goal for completion. Im working on my WIPs and set a goal that I am not buying anymore yarn until I get what I have finished. Having self control is the real challenge. It feels so good to get projects finished also! Looking forward to seeing your beautiful sweaters!

Oh gosh now that my daughter Abby knows what a WIP is, we're having quite a laugh over here as we find more of my WIPs stashed in various places around the house that I forgot about. This...after bragging to her during this episode that I only had a couple of WIPs (though LOADS of yarn from formerly contemplated WIPs LOL). Oh Karma!! Thanks so much for this episode; it's sooo great!!

It’s been 7 months since your video posted. I hope that you’ve enjoyed the benefits of keeping your favorite projects! I recently went through my WIPs (the oldest was from nearly 20 years ago, and I now have *just* 10 WIPs). It felt so good to sort through them and to write down for the keepers what I was working on, what environment would be good for continuing it (TV watching, full focus, on-the-go project), what stage it was at, and also what the issue was that kept me from wanting to work on it or actually knitting on it. As I went through and found things that I didn’t like, but was irked at the time investment I’d already put into them, I realized that if I shifted my mindset from what the WIP was supposed to be and just looked at what it was, I could imagine different possibilities for it: including some that resulted in finishing quickly. A sock tube might become a wrist warmer. A sweater body might turn into a cowl. Hat ribbing could be a headband or ear warmer. A wool WIP could be felted, then cut into coasters…. I plan to transform one of my WIPs, a half mohair lace half chunky lace sweater, into a cowl by cutting it up, serging the edges, and sewing it into a circle- not fast but more fun than frogging mohair! Wishing you Happy Knitting!

I have been thinking about this video as I was walking this morning and thinking how wonderful to see you progress with your knitting. Your very old wips are not as beautiful and well-made as your current wips. To see your progress and learning about what works and doesn't work, your color pallet changes, and it is hard sometimes to let things go and say I am done with that. I admire your honest and straight forward sharing of your knitting journey. I have frogged lots, started over and thrown away many sweaters and projects that don't quite work, or the yarn choice was poor, and haven't really thought about my journey until I shared in yours. Thank you for your energy and time and love of sharing. It is the journey that is important.

I used to be an endless starter, with 20-30 WIPs on the needles at a time, then for some reason in my 20s I switched to being a monogamous knitter. I know I won't finish the projects I start if I let myself get too distracted with exciting new ones, and also the new one sitting in the corner with its temptingly fresh yarn balls REALLY motivates me to finish the current one up. So I guess it's a game of reverse psychology with myself, but it works out by producing actual objects in the end so I'm happy enough 😂

Congratulation on sorting all your projects. I am a little bit jealous of your frog pile, because I enjoy frogging. I wish I could come over, drink a nice wine with you (or lemonade) 🥂and help you frog all those projects!🧶I don't have many works in progress, but I do have urges to cast on all the things... It works for me to have around three projects on the go. I put yarn and patterns in project bags without casting on as future projects. I made swatches for my next two projects...😇 I don't know what happend, I usually do not swatch! 👻 Greetings from the Netherlands

Don’t worry about making a long video. You kept me company as I wove in the ends of an advent cowl. When sorting through your WIPs use the Marie Kondo method….if it doesn’t spark joy….frog it! I do that with yarn I buy and later decide to let go and let someone else have the joy of it. Thanks for your time and sharing your projects.

Hi Jana. I am watching your videos all day. I think you are beautiful and charming and talented. I like your comment that your little cute daughter that you say “little yeller.” I know that you say it with love. She sounds like she has a beautiful character, and it is good that she is opinionated. I think it will help her in life. Life is not always easy. There are a lot of challenges for all humans. I like your dog. My daughter got a dog about a month ago. It looks like your dog, and it is about the same size. It is a girl, and her name is Addie, short for Adeline. I like the garter stitch shawl that you knit for yourself, and it came out beautifully. You did a good job. I have been working all day on the edge of the shawl for Heidi. I am not done yet, and I will work on it more tomorrow. This morning I knitted a coaster that I finished and it is on my coffee table and it looks nice. I am proud of how good it came out. I worked on it for about three hours. I enjoy listening to you on your videos. Take Care. 😊

Happy New Season! I enjoyed right to the end. I have no problem whatsoever with frogging. Many Blessings on endeavor to complete loved knits. By the way, did I tell you I use frogging as a meditation/therapy time. Always make relaxing times to do frogging. And put frog projects in order of size so you can make a special time you want to spend on a number of sized frog projects. You will see how quick it will be and the calm effect it will have on you. Use old stockings as covers for yarn so you don't tangle your yarns or old commercial socks. Have a blessed one!. Philippians 4:13

Yes, my frogs are calling out but decided this year is the " not interested in finishing box". I'm a serial cast on knitter. Did frog the the back of a sweater I really liked and decided to start it again ,changing needle size. Enjoyed this podcast ,helps to know I'm not alone with UFOs.

I laughed with you as I have Unidentified Objects as well from years ago! I have been having a ripping party....I have cast on parties too....before I finish what I am working on and then it gets put aside. I need to finish so many that only need a few rows. Then there are the unfinished needlepoint and cross stitch projects too.....I think I am not motivated to knit now since I have so much around me. I think I will make this the year of sorting and donation. What fun watching you with all your WIPS! Don't worry about the light, it is just so enjoyable to visit with you on You Tube!!! As long as you are there all is well.....Sandy

I have a system that is working for me with WIPs. I have a calendar that I wrote my daily knitting goals. For example today my goal was “knit striped sock until afterthought heel”. “ green sweater two inches”. “Pick up stitches on second sleeve of tan sweater”. This has helped me be accountable as chunk my knitting into workable goals. I have finished two sweaters and two pairs of socks in January this way. Maybe you can work into your WIPS into a rotation like this. Good luck. All your projects are gorgeous. You can do this. Have you taught your children to crochet or knit yet? Family knitting time for 20 minutes before bed is another way you might get more knitting time. ❤️❤️❤️

It is so good to take inventory of the WIPS. Last year I did yarn bingo as Cia from Ciasbod. It was motivating to cross things off my list. I am certain I have as many WIps . I did a bunch of frogging last year of some ill fittting and unloved projects. The yarn was lovely and I realized as I frogged I was still inspired by the yarn making plans for future projects.
I love your bright color cardigan! Perfect for home! Cozy fluffy for chilly at home days!
I am at my winter cottage and brought many with me to work on here. I have a shawl I probably started in 2009. Oops
As I watch I am working on a cardigan I started in September of 2019. I picked it up yesterday after I completed a baby blanket gift. It is also strangely gratifying to frog. I try to finish something before I begin a new project.
I put much on hold during holiday knitting. I have used January to make gifts for some short people in my life who have birthdays.
Be brave and frog on. 🐸 I also finished a project I was not happy with at the encouragement of my daughter who wanted it. The pattern was good the yarn was wrong for the project. When I gave it to her I told her again if she decided it is not to her liking donate it … She wore it and someone asked her if her mother made it… Later she decided it was not to her liking. I was a bit embarrassed about the project and wished I would have frogged than to have someone know it was my work.

I have a box that is probably 3 times larger than your box, full of UFO's. Some are from the 70's, I need to go through them. I would start with the smallest WIP and go from there. I have come to the realization that UFOs, WIPs, and yarn stashes are modern first world problems. Knitting has become a hobby, rather than being a necessity. Back in the Stone Age, yarn was cheap in comparison to store bought garments/accessories. We also had smaller wardrobes. Let’s face it, how many sweaters, shawls, and socks do we really need? Having scolded myself, I must say that I have learned nothing from my childhood experience 😆. Yarn and WIP piles bulge. The only thing I have not fallen victim to (yet) are project bags, although I have a fabric pile to rival the others. What a problem to have! 😉

I once took a lace summer top that was turning out enormous and turned it into a lampshade cover. I love this lamp and it was a successful transition from WIP to beautiful home knit! I just realized watching this that my Kate Davies Stratendrick from 2018 needs to change purpose/ it is oversized and I could not figure out how to “increase in pattern” during the complicated color work to make dolman sleeves. But it looks like it could become a stunning bolster pillow cover! Going to take my oldest WIP and repurpose it in February!! Thank you for the inspiration. I really enjoy knitting with you:)

I have so many wips myself and no idea how many....My taste has changed over the years and life events have meant that my brain can really only cope with simple knits at the moment.....so seeing you make brave decisions on frogging is a great example to me. Why hang onto part done things when the yarn can be repurposed or even sold or given away. I too was making choices for you on frog or keep!! x

Hello Jana, Thank you for sharing your wips and decision process on what to frog and what to finish. I can tell you that this episode absolved me of any guilt I had over mine. I have 5, one of which is a bulky yarn short jacket with expensive yarn that I don't think is going to look good on me. Ya, its from a number of years ago when bulky yarn was the knitting fad. But seriously, going thru all those projects must be emotionally draining. If you are able to get the wips you chose to keep done then I think you should get the superwoman knitting award of the year!!!!!!! Have a nice week and thank you for entertaining me while I finish up my son't sweater today!!!!! YAY! Carrie from the San Francisco Bay Area. 😄💓🐾🌸☕🌞🧶🪡🧵

Hi Jana: I am a fairly monogamous knitter. Even 3 WIPs is too many for me! And if I am not enjoying it I frog 🐸 it straight away. Joy is where the heart is. If it’s not in my heart I know I won’t finish it…

Jana. I have just discovered your channel and I love your personality and of course your knowledge. I am more of a crocheter, but your Finnish title caught my attention. My gr-grandparents came from Finland. Esse and Nygard. I just love listening to you. I especially like destashing, so I enjoy watching you make these decisions!

I really enjoy your vidéo !!! I don't that many unfinished projects, but still some. I dislike unravel, but I discover recently that this is the best way to use the yarns and to "discharge" the brain!!!
Just like you, I made expérience of new yarns, new stitches and....never finished them!!!
    So, nothing so "strange" 😉
And I am doing the same for books : I buy many books but no time to read them all !!
Fantastic vidéo and new chance for your yarns! 😊😊😊😊

Enjoyed this and feel inspired to start another blanket with ends, I love seeing ends together. Since I'm utilizing you as my knitting company the length of your videos don't bother me at all.

You are such an awesome podcaster- I can relate to the “planned projects” - last year I did a big stash bust - had to admit that some things I thought I would knit would probably never be done so I donated to a thrift store, a huge amount of yarn. Now I am left with yarn I want to knit with- woolly yarn and almost no man made content- it’s a good feeling

You inspired me to straighten up my craft room!!! I don't have a wip issue but I definitely have a space issue and of course things magically appear needing a home for future projects. So, again thank you. Things are looking much more organized here 😁 happy February.

Wow! Nu Tev tiešām iespaidīga kaudzīte ar iesāktiem projektiem. Man vienmēr likās, ka man ir dikti daudz, salīdzinot ar citām pazīstamām adītājām, nu vismaz pēdējā gada laikā.

Wow that is a big number!! I am sure you feel better now. Really enjoyed this. Have just subscribed. For a year i just completed my WIPs and now try and keep 2 on the go so I can finish them quickly. Also if you double yarn and make a plumpier blanket you can get through yarn and finish it quickly. Thank you.

Hi.: It was interesting watching you go through your pile of unfinish work or WIPS. I think you need to frog those last blankets near the end of the video except the one for your daughter, and finish your husbands sweater. The pile you kept to finish I think you need to go back through it and make a Maybe pile, then revisit it in two months and see what you want to frog. The pile you kept is to many and I don't think you will really get to them because you weren't very sure of some. Also I would suggest you make a calendar planner for working your projects; maybe a large one along with a small one, but no more so you can finish something (most importantly things that you have started for your daughter, they are smaller items). Also you could possibly dedicate a day of the week to work on a certain item if you don't want to only focus on two at a time. I love them all. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. Happy Knitting

How brave to show all the wips, the garment for your husband will be different after blocking!! The eskimo /snow shawl , you can easily cast of. Put it in the washingmachine with a bit of old sturdy fabric ( i often use the same part of old jeans) and felt it. Then make something fun for easter with the children, eggwarmers, potholders etc. after frogging all the oldies you have a lot of needles back and lovely yarn and the project bags. So well done, we all recognize this. I’m about to finish a felix coatigan, with yarn that i frogged after 10 years sitting in a project bag.. I can tell you it feels so good! You can do the same as Cia did, work 30 minutes a day on an old project. She finished a lot in only a month i believe. Wish you succes!

Very funny, but, well done! You have do it with the KonMari Method ;) ask youself by every WIP do you feel joy or not. So, let some go, don't feel bad, to be creativ sometime it needs to switch. Sometimes its only the process, sometimes the progress that makes knitting lovely. Enjoy it :)

I have nineteen WIPs to finish for 2022and probably more if you count the stash of yarn that I have designated for more projects. That doesn't include the two projects I have already finished. I enjoyed seeing all your WIPs. I think you should block the Stormtrooper pullover and see if the yarn relaxes enough to make it more comforrable. 2022 is going to be a very productive year!

So much work has been put into starting these projects. I can understand wanting to undo some you're not going to use. I'm trying to do that in all my possessions. I am older, but consider myself a beginner, as I've never really stuck with knitting. Now, I'd like to do more, so I'm making a few little things. Still lots of mistakes. I was married to a Finn... From Kotka, so I've been there. It was wonderful. The garment I liked the most was your yellow scarf. I hope you bind off and block it, and enjoy giving it to someone who would love to have it and needs it. Another idea I had for some of your "maybes" is to let some of the beginners, who come in the shop, have them to learn on. You said you have a yarn shop, and I'm sure you have many beginners who want to learn to make, socks, etc. I'm sure they would love to have them to practice on, and learn to do a heal, etc. Good work, all 'round. That was a lot of work, but now the work really begins, either finishing them, or ripping them up. Good luck. Let us see how it goes. I am intrigued when you mentioned a cotton linen mix. Thanks for the fun.
