The first wave of casuals certainly weren't clones the boys are definitely characters. I'm not from east London but these guys are well worth a documentary and it's good to see this time of life documented, the 80's fashion etc
My uncle used to dress like this; drainpipe jeans, white socks, slip-on shoes, pringle jumper + medallion. Must have been the east end look in the mid 80s
One of the fore-runners of fake documentaries, or at least acted documentaries. The fight scene being the best example. The whole thing wreaks of staging and orchestration.
Around the same time the Sun newspaper did a big story about Tilbury, pretended it had a massive skinhead problem when it was just a bit boring grey town without those problems.
I recognise a few of the faces in this video from WHUFC's firm in the early 80s. Believe you me I'm no lover of the 'irons' but these lads were the real deal, they dished it out all over England and took their kickings when things got out of hand like in Manchester when outnumbered 5 to one they stood and got bashed up. Not sure if it was before or after that they give it to United on the ferry to Holland .
RicTic66 The ferry was 86,15 icf were upstairs drinking in the inter city bar, took on 150 Man U and held them off for hours they had to turn the boat round back to England.👊⚒
This is what these jokers you see at football now clad in their stone island coat and thinking that's all it takes, back in the day everything revolved around the firm (hate that phrase),we were all mates who trusted each other to graft and fight with.
wtached this back in 1983 was a great documentry been looking for this for years my father did have this on vhs . what happened to woolich there was no mention of him in the 1993 doc thanx for a great post
Back then you either gave a good kicking or got a good kicking, it was part of the thing and strange as often or not I would have been hanging out with plenty of east end skinheads down Carnaby St and all mates but come the football and all bets were off and often had to run the gauntlet of going through Chelsea, Tottenham lot as much as bumping into Wet Spam on the tube as we made our way to Euston or Kings X and you knew they were there because West End Central had their SPG down on the trains and platforms and we didn't care as they were viable targets as much as the other side were. Ironically I married into a heavy east end family, erstwhile neighbours of Lenny McLean, the infamous Hanmore's two doors up from Lenny with Wally the eldest being a trusted "Firm" chap, then I was dancing in a different league altogether and the only time I ever kept schtum about my team was down the Lane, having tea with ol' Pop and Tony Burns, having a bet with Foxy Phil or a host of other characters, the ex father in law passed away today and yet he gave me respect as I earned it the hard way.
@@dodgydruid well said mate, true back then you run the gauntlet especially away days, i grew up in Manor park with the infamous MPS who were all WEST HAM Skins, i could tell you a few things, put it this way you grew up fast in them days late 70,s early 80,s they were a bit older than me i was around 14 they was in there 20,s & we all looked up to em, btw you support who ? Anyone spot the young Andy Swallow of icf fame?
Most of them if not all was icf

"He's four by two, you know. Front wheel".
Had to google what he was on about, he might as well have been speaking French.
I can't believe that there are actually people in Britain who have to Google common Rhyming slang:four by two =jew front wheel skid =yid
