This is absolutely awesome. Can hardly wait since I am waiting for my DF64V to arrive.

I think you'll love the V, sleek form factor, variable RPM, quality components. And the stock burrs are very good too.

@@tomsgrinderlab Thanks, I based a lot of my decision on your review. I don’t plan on a burr upgrade for a long time. But you never know…😉

You are a scholar and a gentleman. And an absolute madman. You have the gratitude of coffee nerds around the world

A scholar, a gentleman, and a madman? I'll take it, thanks!
(Even if only one out of the three is true 😁.)

I just bought a dv83v with the lab sweet burrs and this seems a very interesting comparison to watch.
Although SSP really does have a seasoning period issue it seems. This is what alot users say and initially i was skeptical on seasoning but it really is a thing apparently as for so far my experience.
So right of the start with new burrs they would probably suck without it being thoroughly broken in. I read about people commenting with 83 lab sweet that still saw changes/improvement after 15kg. If that's even remotely true then personally for me that's nearly one year of coffee consumption. That's ridiculous. And i don't really feel much for buying cheap rancid coffee to run through my machine

Yes seasoning is a thing. But most of the improvements with an 83mm burr are going to happen somewhere around the 4 - 8kg mark. It's like the 80/20 rule where you get 80% of the seasoning achievemed with 20% of the beans. Except it's more like 30/70 in the case of seasoning.
I typically run 3kg through to season 83mm burrs and 2kg for 64mm burrs. Add another kilo to that if the burrs are coated.

Perfect idea i have some suggestions you might considder incorporating in your testing.
I just hope you use tons of the same coffe same roast date, so you have the best comparison and least variables, this way you could also spot if the coating of the burrs (eg DLC coating) influences taste in a somilar way ( eg. Same taste profile Charakter with the same coating in different burr size.)
I would buy lots of coffee and freeze store it in batch packages, maybe even repaclage it under CO2 protective athmospere if you want to go crazy, then Freeze the coffee and wait like 2-4 weeks and them start the testing. So bean quallity is the most consistent (hopefully)

Yep same everything when comparing. Of course. It's why I have 2x Decent DE1XLs sitting in my bench. Simultaneous pours, blind tests.

Its good we both started in the same place, smart grinder pro to niche zero. Ive since had a few but you seem to have gone down a much deeper rabbit hole maze then me :)
Currently im on niche duo, craig lyn hg1 prime (favourite) , weber static - i mean Key and 1zpresso j ultra.
Following to see what to splash out on next.

Ha! Great to see you here Adrian and thanks again for your efforts is sending that piece of kit.
Next month my second Decent DE1XL arrives and that's when the serious work of burr comparison via blind taste comparisons start.
My top 3 espresso burr sets so far are the Mazzer k151H (that will fit your Duo), the Varia VS3 Hypernova Ultra S (about 1/4 the price of the k151H) and surprisingly (to me at least) the stock uncoated DF burrs that come with the DF64 Gen 2.
So lots for you to choose from there.
