Dang, Varia just emailed me to let me know that the burr I refer to in this video at the 1:37 mark is the Hypernova Ultra, not the Hypernova Ultra S as I refer to it as. Nevertherless the comments are still 100% relevant.
Sorry I’m a bit confused. Which burrs does it come with? Was it the picture you referenced that was the mistake, or that the EVO doesn’t come with Ultra S burrs?
Glad you like it. It's a really close call for filter but I'd go with the K-Ultra. But only by a whisker. For espresso the Evo is a hands down winner and for hybrid (both espresso and filter) it's the bees knees. It's just a great grinder, probably the best burr set I've had for both espresso and filter combined.
Thank you Tom! I have been using C3 ESP with Gaggia Classic Pro for the last 3 months. Its a budget set, but I'm happy with it. I think its time to change to electric grinder. I'm really keen to go to Varia VS3 or DF 54. Unfortunately, Varia Evo doesn't work for me because I already have one hand grinder and also I don't want to wait the rest time and wont use it for travel. Lets wait some promotion/discount 😅 Cheers from Brisbane!
Maybe have a look at the Varia VS3 then. I have a review of it somewhere floating around on this channel. You'll notice big step up in espresso taste from the C3, lovely grinder though it is. Also, with the motor, the Evo is quite capable of taking the place of an electric grinder.
Dear @tomsgrinderlab, how are you finding the grinder after a few more months of use? Think this would be a good pair with the Picopresso, an unpressurised basket?
No idea about the Picrpresso sorry. But the only baskets I've used it with were unpressurized. To be clear, after the review I only use it for travel and it's been stellar, superb and if I didn't have a dozen or more other grinders at the moment I'd be happy to use it as my daily driver. It is superb.
No very different. ZP6 has more clarity. They would make a great pair. I have a ZP6 and for a hand grinder it's pretty hard to beat for clarity but the Evo is sensational for espresso and if you grind coarser for filter it does very well too. A great combo is you have both.
@@asmith2886 Yes that's always the big worry. So many says 'yep, espresso for sure' and then it simply doesn't. Crossing fingers for you. (I actually enjoy backing crowd sourced projects despite having been burnt a couple of times but I simply have too much on going on in the grinder world at the moment.)
