I seriously think Jay Cutler is the best voice/persona to doing training videos. He is so insanely down to earth, humble, knowledgeable, and disarming. I think he could appeal to every single level of people using weights - beginners to expert. I’ve felt this way for a while. Just stoked to see he’s doing it.
but his training is only for those with elite genetics and drug use..... 20-30 sets per bodypart, and its always 10-12 repetitions.... good luck with a natty getting somewhere with this
@@vaultboy6911french press and skullcrushers are a little different. FP you move your elbows more, while they basically remain still during skullcrushers
@@VauxBatnever heard of a laying French press, I suppose it's possible with a cable and bench...but no, number 3 as described here is a skullcrusher( the comment list, not Jay's third movement of choice or any of the movements he mimicked)
I like any machine that primarily trains the long head of the tricep. I tend to focus more on the stretch than contraction, and I really like feeling that long head stretch and pull apart with every rep.
@oo.8330 try to tuck you shoulder blades together and retract your scapula. push your shoulder blades together and down and hold it and lay down on your back this will change the lift on your muscles. also when I close grip bench I go lower by my stomach solor plexus area when I bring the bar down. I dont bring the bar down on my nipples or middle chest area. make sure to bench in a straight line the whole way.
Recent researches show that tension in stretched position builds muscle the most. Shortened contraction not so much. So it seems locking out is not that important. Not saying Jay keeps up to date with research, but bodybuilders do a lot of variations, some of which happens to be proven more effective. Lengthened partials is one of them, even though he does say lock out in the video (I'm not saying it would be counterproductive, so it is still ok to do it).
Yes it’s funny how many great champions talk about how important it is to lock out and you full range of motion and The almost everyone use partial reps The most 😊 because it works like wonder 😊
guys with elite genetics that allows them to tolerate huge steroid cycles, often, don't know shit about training.... all Jay's advice in a single line: "do 20-25 sets per bodypart, 10-12 reps on every set" , the end.... most naturals with normal genetics are gonna die doing that
Oh man, reverse grip on the Preacher Curl Machine!? I've been dealing with tendonitis and it's been rough finding tricep exercises that won't make the pain worse....this is great! That's why he's a multi time Champ, thank you Jay! 🔥
Knowing what we know now: the overhead tricep extension is one of the best movements you can do for the long head. This way your tricep is fully lengthened and it nowadays is known that training the muscle in a fully stretched, lenghtened position causes most hypertrophy.
I agree and that’s why I voted for Hadi to win this years Olympia. His calves and Triceps were outstanding. What do we do about judging when it’s that close and we must look at flaws to determine the winner. Are judges just out of it that much? Do they not have a strict criteria to go by. Are they honoring that or putting it aside and judging based on their personal preference? What’s the purpose of judges if it’s more personal preference than using criteria to its utmost use?
The great thing to build triceps is heavy chest and shoulder presses. Then when tricep day comes around you are using lighter finishing exercises to define the muscle
The rope cable extensions are my meat and potatoes of my tricep workout. Years of pushups really helped my triceps develop much stronger than biceps. Jay is a beast though. Him and Arnold (Arnold first lol) my 2 fav body builders.
I did a Jay Cutler 8 week build. It was intense, like 2.5hrs/day, 4500 calories, and 1 gram protein per pound of bodyweight. I put on some bulk with that routine.
The bread and butters of my triceps workouts over the years that i feel have always gave me more gains are your standard cable pushdown, skull crusher's on a low incline bench using a barbell, then i move onto an overhead extension exercise either with a dumbbell or at a cable station for that deep stretch, and then lastly ive always finished off with either bodyweight dips off 2 benches or a good dip machine . Those are the exercises ive always done and my triceps have always been strong and continue growing from these exercises to this day and ive been training for close to 20 years now
They all work every head of the tricep, some may hit certain heads ‘harder’ but that’s assuming that you’re lifting as hard and intense with each exercise. So just find the exercises that you really feel and can go hard on. As Jay says, can’t go wrong with a push down and a skull crusher, the classic, tried and true tricep exercises every bodybuilder built their arms with
He didn't mention his close grip bench..that was the foundational exercise he always did while competing to get the mass there. He should've added it...
"Supplements" will get you only 70-80% of the way. Just look in any gym at the ridiculous amount of guys with disproportionately large traps/shoulders, but tiny torsos and usually lacking triceps, not to mention the small legs. The rest 30% comes from discipline and good programming. Then genetics will get you over the 100%
Let me ask for some advice since I don’t have any cables and fancy machines since all I have is free weights for triceps I do dips and skull crushers with the ez curl bar, what do you think?
Press downs hardly do anything for the long head it’s predominantly lateral head. It amazes me guys make it so far knowing so little about either own body works.
Why would you do a press down followed by a press down? What’s the difference between the rope and the bar your hand position? Genuinely interested/baffled not questioning mr Olympia
There’s no way I can do all of this. I’m on a four day split. Day 4 is shoulders and arms. That would be 9 exercises in one gym trip. There’s isn’t enough time in my day.
A pressdown works the long-head best? For that to be the case you’d have to go all the way down and arc the bar towards your body but you’re not doing that. A Skullcrusher is the king for long head movements.
But today Dorian looks like he never touched a weight in his life. Ronnie is crippled. Jay still looks sensational. Just maybe he's the one who knew how to do it right. Ya think??
