What might the worldwide sedan of the future be like? In answer, Peugeot offers us this, the 408, part-saloon, part-coupe SUV, part-practical hatch. The brand claims its 'a new breed of car'. It'll certainly need a new breed of buyer.
Background
To hatch or to SUV? That is the question - or at least it is if you're looking for compact yet spacious and practical family or business conveyance. There needs to be a third way, a blank space in the market not really filled by compact saloons or coupe-SUVs. But possibly resolved by this car, Peugeot's 408.
The 408 is an innovative, style-led Fastback with elements that could conceivably appeal to customers in all the categories just mentioned. Conventionality has characterised previous 4.0-series Peugeots, but this one is anything but. The three (rather than four) digit name designates the company's wish for this car to be seen as distinct from its range of SUVs, but there's plenty of crossover in the chunky aesthetics. Yet at the same time, it's a kind of futuristic take what the family hatch of the future might be like. Under the skin, it's based on (and was designed alongside) a family hatch very much of the present, Peugeot's third generation 308. Lots then, to talk about here.

That was a great review, really useful as I'm interested in getting a 408. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
His complaints on this car are somewhat hypocritical considering the amount of parts. engines etc german cars share and considering audi is now reported as one of the most unreliable cars i will look forward to getting my 408. Owned a few new Peugeot and the quality is right up there if not better than some german cars. This not not exactly an umbiased review. Ill stick with the other reveiws out there that all see something more than this
Coat hooks are not "forgotten" they are deliberately left out of modern cars! In the event of a crash you really, really, really don't want the explosive expansion of curtain side air bags firing the edge of a wooden hanger into the side of your, or a passengers head with the force of a musket ball!
You can have map display on the driver instrument
Can't wait till I got mine next week !
Impossible, orders are for Sep
@@CheckDisOutpeeps In Belgium you could already order from the beginning of the year

Update on your thoughts with the car?
@@WingMan1 Very satisfied with the car. Consumption is slightly higher than stated but that's my fault I guess :)
Love the car, hate the rear bumper 🤢
what's your basis and evidence for casting aspersions on a lack of "deep rooted build integrity"? I thought your reviews were supposed to be "comprehensive"? Are your claims valid or mere prejudice?
Oh, it's just old-fashioned badmouthing from the British auto industry and their fanboys.
Funniest irony is that they're totally oblivious to the fact there's not a single "iconic" British brand that's survived under their - presumably - "deep rooted build integrity" whilst French brands (and not just cars; think banks, fashion houses, etc, etc) have gone from strength to strength.
Yup i think hes living in the past and not experienced too many new Peugeots
I don’t like the rear view, it’s totally a mess, not corresponding the creative style of the front view. Totally a contrast.
I strongly disagree. It looks sensational. From all angles.
Agree with you. It looks frumpy (at least through video and images). I think this is partly a result of the car being too long.
@@antonroux6737 That car is not too long. Saw one the other day, it is just perfect. Looks really really good.
