As Afro-American who was born and raised in US as well as working and living in KSA for 3 years, American slums are not remotely under any circumstance comparable to KSA, but instead of sniffing into other developing country's living standard, perhaps the first step into reality would be that we sort out our own friggin deeply ingrained injustices stemming from a faulty system in our own country first.
+The Question You think they did this for the well fare of the so called "poor saudis"...it's all a propaganda machine taking orders from higher up....they want to tell you "the US is just fine, don't worry, let's look the other way to a far away lands where things are not that great, and maybe they need us to give them a some of our democracy like we did in IRAQ and Afghanistan". It's all a big game....real media is long dead.
+Guess Who Well, welcome to America my friend. A military might where 46 million Americans live on food stamps and where 2.3 million people experience homelessness in addition to 1.5 million American children each year. A nation who invades others to pun their brand on madness on them while its own citizens linger in ghettos. Unfortunately America has become a nation with no priority but merely look after the financial interests of the wealthiest individuals.
Los Angeles slums are worse than any on the world I'd argue, other than perhaps India. And many of our slums are filled with bums who choose to be bums! That would be unthinkable in other countries. Just for comparison. Australia has a population of 28 million and around 3.2 million of them live below the poverty line - this number is growing exponentially every year.
Addendum: Saudi Arabia has a poverty like all other countries. US even has a poverty line that is alarming to First Nations standards. We do have poverty to resolve, but we do have a huge illegal immigration issue too. Let us be sincere & honest in presenting the case. Thank you!

The case of Makkah is special. The vast majority of people in those slums are illegal immigrants. Because of that, they receive no benefits and can’t get well paying jobs. Also, most illegal immigrants live in Makkah. The welfare program is meant to help Saudis and ABSID and it works. This documentary is very misleading and tries to paint Saudi Arabia in a bad light.

In the United States, whoever holds power is elected and chosen by American citizens. In Saudi Arabia, a group of individuals used violence and crime against residents to seize land that did not belong to them. This family has seized the wealth of this country by force and forced its people into slavery, using religion and weapons against those who resist their domination.
I call BS. I am Saudi. And I have never ever seen a homeless "saudi" person begging and sleeping on the street of my country but I have seen some none Saudis homless who mostly are pilgrims (who stayed) or illegal immigrants. Still not as many homeless people as I've seen in Europe.
PBS unfortunately is losing a lot of its credibility!! I'm a Saudi Arabian and you might find my comment is not qualified to be bias free. I accept that, but what I don't accept is twisting things by a respectable agency such as PBS - Frontline. Saudi Arabia, like the US, faces a tremendous problem of illegal immigrants or settlers. US by being the land of opportunity to the world but most accessible by its close neighbors (Mexico & other South American countries), Saudi Arabia is attractive to Muslims desperate for better life as they enter the country by a limited Hajj (pilgrimage) or Umra (spiritual special visit to Holy city - Makkah) and just never leave after their original intent. They become illegal immigrants. They leave the original city to nearby cities (like Jeddah). Most end up living through illegal workforce or end as beggars. They also would live in hide-out ghettoes (never intended for living). This is what you see in the documentary in most and twisted to be Saudis.

One more thing, saudis a generous people and many people are making a business out of begging and I have seen this with my own eyes. There is a % of Poverty is in every country and no country can avoid that. But here I have seen less than other places. Saudis are truly welcoming and generous but why would you work if most are stopping the car to give you free cash. Asians ( many of them) come to make money and they make lots, build their homes in their countries and show no care for keeping their streets clean, same for african immigrants. I have been an immigrant all of my life and i can testify that the ones here are a mess when it comes to social manners. Again no government that police you throwing dirty water or garbage on the street. This documentary is not being fair and i love Frontline but no documentary is better than my own eyes.

+The Question
You think they did this for the well fare of the so called "poor saudis"...it's all a propaganda machine taking orders from higher up....they want to tell you "the US is just fine, don't worry, let's look the other way to a far away lands where things are not that great, and maybe they need us to give them a some of our democracy like we did in IRAQ and Afghanistan".
It's all a big game....real media is long dead.
+Guess Who
Well, welcome to America my friend.
The Question

The people that were begging in the streets in this vid aren’t poor or in need, 99% of them work together like a big gang using people empathy and emotions to collect millions of dollars , the government caught them but there are so many, they fight between each other on the streets, buying or selling specific areas so no one else can beg in that areas but them, I’m not saying that there are no poor people, they exists but it’s very rare and they usually don’t beg in that way , I just wanted to clarify that.

THESE ARE NOT SAUDI PEOPLE. these are most probably illegal immigrants who came to mekkah for pilgrimage and stayed there because they don't want to go back to their home countries. they can't benefit like the Saudis because they don't have official papers.
Why keep them😂 deport them back to their countries
how does that make it better???
There's no Saudi in this video
Interesting to see.

Anyway, the slums do exist, but they are mostly common in a few cities such as Jeddah and Makkah, though they're mostly inhabited by non-Saudis, mostly illegal immigrants who came from Umrah but never left the country. Most of the Saudi population have medium to high revenues, only a small percentage live under the line of poverty. Do not speak on behalf of the millions of Saudis living in the country. You might be poor, but not everyone is poor, so refrain from using "we" as you appear to be speaking on behalf of millions of people, and spreading false info.

No country is clear of poverty
There is always poverty in every place in the world. Even the US, Europe, Australia or Asia. The community are always divided into 2 groups the rich and the poor. I Live in the Philippines some countries see us , as one of the poorest countries but visit our place in BGC and Makati you will have a second thought. There will always be a poor community the battle that we need to fight is to have a quality of life. You can be poor but with the help of good governance poor people can have a good quality of life. Like acces to proper healthcare, a roof to live, clean water and a safe community.

Maybe tourism is the only way now to bring wealth to the poor and working class ❤
Hope so
I wonder if any Saudi reporters go to hoods like in Los Angeles or parts of Chicago and Detroit and go “ look at the slums of the u.s.” 🤔 I’d say that those places could be seen as equal or even worse to this place.
So glad I wasn't born in Saudi Arabia or any Muslim dominated country.
