As Afro-American who was born and raised in US as well as working and living in KSA for 3 years, American slums are not remotely under any circumstance comparable to KSA, but instead of sniffing into other developing country's living standard, perhaps the first step into reality would be that we sort out our own friggin deeply ingrained injustices stemming from a faulty system in our own country first.
+The Question You think they did this for the well fare of the so called "poor saudis"...it's all a propaganda machine taking orders from higher up....they want to tell you "the US is just fine, don't worry, let's look the other way to a far away lands where things are not that great, and maybe they need us to give them a some of our democracy like we did in IRAQ and Afghanistan". It's all a big game....real media is long dead.
+Guess Who Well, welcome to America my friend. A military might where 46 million Americans live on food stamps and where 2.3 million people experience homelessness in addition to 1.5 million American children each year. A nation who invades others to pun their brand on madness on them while its own citizens linger in ghettos. Unfortunately America has become a nation with no priority but merely look after the financial interests of the wealthiest individuals.
Los Angeles slums are worse than any on the world I'd argue, other than perhaps India. And many of our slums are filled with bums who choose to be bums! That would be unthinkable in other countries. Americans are given so much opportunity and they take it for granted. They blame everything and everyone but themselves for their failures.
0:42 These people are not Saudi nationals but foreigners, most likely from Yemen and South Asia. I don't know where you got the idea of 25% of the population is in poverty, because the Saudi government doesn't issue information on this, so your report is a mere lie.
So what? While the statistics may be off you're suggesting their lives don't matter? That their existence is less significant than someone who is a Saudi born citizen?? The United States has spend millions of dollars on refugees coming from the middle east-we don't leave them to live destitute in slums. A country is judged by how it treats its poor. Saudi Arabia has been blessed by God with natural resources and look how they treat the poor. Disgusting, one day you will all find out that your stacks of gold and fancy cars aren't worth one cent.
Addendum: Saudi Arabia has a poverty like all other countries. US even has a poverty line that is alarming to First Nations standards. We do have poverty to resolve, but we do have a huge illegal immigration issue too. Let us be sincere & honest in presenting the case. Thank you!
The people that were begging in the streets in this vid aren’t poor or in need, 99% of them work together like a big gang using people empathy and emotions to collect millions of dollars , the government caught them but there are so many, they fight between each other on the streets, buying or selling specific areas so no one else can beg in that areas but them, I’m not saying that there are no poor people, they exists but it’s very rare and they usually don’t beg in that way , I just wanted to clarify that.

PBS unfortunately is losing a lot of its credibility!! I'm a Saudi Arabian and you might find my comment is not qualified to be bias free. I accept that, but what I don't accept is twisting things by a respectable agency such as PBS - Frontline. Saudi Arabia, like the US, faces a tremendous problem of illegal immigrants or settlers. US by being the land of opportunity to the world but most accessible by its close neighbors (Mexico & other South American countries), Saudi Arabia is attractive to Muslims desperate for better life as they enter the country by a limited Hajj (pilgrimage) or Umra (spiritual special visit to Holy city - Makkah) and just never leave after their original intent. They become illegal immigrants. They leave the original city to nearby cities (like Jeddah). Most end up living through illegal workforce or end as beggars. They also would live in hide-out ghettoes (never intended for living). This is what you see in the documentary in most and twisted to be Saudis.

I have seen worse poverty conditions in Brazil and other countries. It is normal although poverty is not acceptable. Jesus said: You will always have the poor among you.
As a human society, poverty is completely acceptable, which is why it has always been a part of the human condition. It's only individuals who believe it isn't, unfortunately human society as a whole will never agree... because the wealthy and powerful control society and always have and they accept poverty.
The poor people living in those slums were not Saudi, the overwhelming majority of people living in slums in the kingdom are illegal residents with no access to government services or employment due to their illegal status. Compartively speaking, you find worse slums infested with drugs and organized crime in the U.S and other advanced nations with both illegal and legal residents. As a Saudi, I have benefited greatly from our government policy of free education and services. The government paid for my education in Canada and paid for my parents education in Australia and the U.S (both have Phd's). This family has seized the wealth of this country by force and forced its people into slavery, using religion and weapons against those who resist their domination.
I am living here for 7 years coming from Holland, most people you see here are immigrants that have made their living areas dirty. A government can not make you a clean person. One more thing, saudis a generous people and many people are making a business out of begging and I have seen this with my own eyes. There is a % of Poverty is in every country and no country can avoid that. But here I have seen less than other places. Saudis are truly welcoming and generous but why would you work if most are stopping the car to give you free cash. Asians ( many of them) come to make money and they make lots, build their homes in their countries and show no care for keeping their streets clean, same for african immigrants. I have been an immigrant all of my life and i can testify that the ones here are a mess when it comes to social manners. Again no government that police you throwing dirty water or garbage on the street. This documentary is not being fair and i love Frontline but no documentary is better than my own eyes.
THESE ARE NOT SAUDI PEOPLE. these are most probably illegal immigrants who came to mekkah for pilgrimage and stayed there because they don't want to go back to their home countries. they can't benefit like the Saudis because they don't have official papers.

The case of Makkah is special. The vast majority of people in those slums are illegal immigrants. Because of that, they receive no benefits and can’t get well paying jobs. Also, most illegal immigrants live in Makkah. The welfare program is meant to help Saudis and ABSID and it works. This documentary is very misleading and tries to paint Saudi Arabia in a bad light.

You think they did this for the well fare of the so called "poor saudis"...it's all a propaganda machine taking orders from higher up....they want to tell you "the US is just fine, don't worry, let's look the other way to a far away lands where things are not that great, and maybe they need us to give them a some of our democracy like we did in IRAQ and Afghanistan".
It's all a big game....real media is long dead.
+Guess Who
Well, welcome to America my friend.
The Question
I feel you man.

Zakat. An annual donation of 2.5% that all rich and middle class muslims have to make to the poor. Being poor anyway in the world is an endless cycle. Don’t blame it on a certain country.

No country is clear of poverty

There is always poverty in every place in the world. Even the US, Europe, Australia or Asia. The community are always divided into 2 groups the rich and the poor. I Live in the Philippines some countries see us , as one of the poorest countries but visit our place in BGC and Makati you will have a second thought. There will always be a poor community the battle that we need to fight is to have a quality of life. You can be poor but with the help of good governance poor people can have a good quality of life. Like acces to proper healthcare, a roof to live, clean water and a safe community.
They said "Saudi Arabia Uncovered", and this videos shows NOTHING, just poor indian, pakistanian, Yemenis and some citizens from other poor countries who work in Saudi arabia as a normal workers.

Those rich saudi princes can solve this problem in one day. Just empty one of their bank accounts and (Wallahi) no more poverty in this land!
But that's just a temporary solution to the a problem. What if the money they give is gone what would they do? Their government should provide new resources not just oil for these people living in the slumps to survive.

I wonder if any Saudi reporters go to hoods like in Los Angeles or parts of Chicago and Detroit and go “ look at the slums of the u.s.” 🤔 I’d say that those places could be seen as equal or even worse to this place.
Unsanitary conditions, begging, faulty dangerous infrastructure.(faulty wiring, plumbing, dangerous lifts etc etc) is very common in KSA while they are very proud of "The Line".
Now think what happens when the oil runs out eventually.
In 500 years
At this point, Agrabah is more vibrant Arabian paradise, although sadly only exists in fiction.
LOL the people that you filmed in the slums and on the streets are not even Saudis. What a BS to get more viewers !
THIS video is going viral on UA-cam because this is not how 99.9% of Saudi Arabia looks like.. these in the video are mostly undocumented immigrants who stayed in Makkah after Hajj. These bad areas thankfully are getting demolished by the government of Makkah and replaced by state of the art mixed used buildings like Jabal Omar.. King Abdulaziz way and the fourth expansion of the holy mosque which demolished a 40 billion dollars worth of properties and compensated their owners in 2005 until today the government buys these areas and develop it. These areas featured in the videos exist before even the Saudi State existed and thankfully we are getting red of them. I exactly know that this channel is linked with Iranian propaganda because of the propaganda movie Saudi Uncovered lol who is has an Iranian citizen director.. keep crying
I love KSA
Thanks
