I felt uneasy that day for some reasons and don't know why. However, I would have wished she had delayed getting involved with men she wasn't sure would keep her safe. Despite their interest, I worry they may not have had her best interest at heart. I would have liked if she had waited a while until her boys got older. At least 17 or 18. I just felt they needed her more since Prince Charles was kind o an absentee father spending time with Camilla so much.

🌹🌹🌹When I was younger, in I997, I thought that this tribute was not good enough, that it was too cold. ⏳⏳⏳ Now that I am older, far older, I think that it was dignified and beautiful. 🌹🌹🌹

She was trained to not show emotion when it came to her role in society and it really does show. I strongly believe she had a deep setted loving side in her she couldn't let out. Her parents seemed like good, well rounded, people

I still think it’s cold as ice. Speaks volumes. As well as her taking five days to address her daughter in laws death, the princess of wales for 15 years. She only addressed it due to public scrutiny and public outcry. It started to look bad on her and that’s the only reason I believe in my heart she did.

The Queen was probably forced to make a speech sooner than she would have liked, let’s be real if any of us were in her position, we probably wouldn’t address it right away due to shock and heartbreak… it’s like expecting someone to immediately address a loved one’s passing on Instagram, sometimes people just need time to process everything, I don’t blame her for being “emotionless” in her statement

  • @gezatherton1071

The people asked for her and she listened. She got such abuse that week for being a grandmother first and a monarch second and yet she still did her duty by returning, greeting the crowd outside Buckingham Palace and speaking live to the nation.
The press have a lot to answer for, they hounded, harassed and chased Princess Diana to her death and then used her death to eulogise about what a good person she was. Shame they couldn’t have been that “kind” when she was alive. Hypocrisy at its finest.

No, in her research on the last book on Diana she wrote, Lady Colin Campbell was shown Irrefutable proof that Diana called the Paps ahead to tell them when/ where she would be in Paris, so they could chase her. Diana was trying to show off for Dodi how popular she was. So, sadly, Diana was at least partially responsible for her own demise. I refer you to the videos of Sept 1,2022 on Lady Colin Campbell’s channel & one recent one of August 24, 2023. Also she was on Dan Wooton show, GBN, Sept 4, “ Architect of self pity”. Not taking away anything from the outstanding charity work Diana did in her lifetime. But her private life was a train wreck.

@@Maggie22002thank you for that info. LCC isn’t usually as accurate a biographer as Gyles Brandreth, Robert Jobson or Andrew Morton but she is correct here.
Diana did tip the press off that she was in Paris but she only developed that relationship due to the constant hounding she’d had for the previous fifteen years and to try and develop some control over it. The photo of her kissing Dodi on the yacht a few days before was done full in the knowledge that there were press there.
That said though, in the years before her death she faced horrible press coverage from the UK tabloids, and treated far worse than Meghan ever was.
She certainly didn’t ask for photographers to arrive on scene at her crash and photograph her dying.
The Paget Report blamed both Henri Paul and the press for her death.

Mrs Campbell SAYS she was shown 'irrefutable proof', but she has tried to use Diana to remain in the public eye for years. And, yes, Diana manipulated the press, just like all the royals do, but that doesn't make her responsible for a drunk driver speeding, or idiots on mopeds chasing a speeding car through traffic.

Crown did a lovely job in re-interpreting this but in watching this for the 1st time I wish they had found a way to show the family's interaction with the public, the smiles and kind words shared between both sides prior to the speech. The reality shown here makes her real speech a bit more moving to me in comparison to the distance and seeming lack of comprehension by members of the royal family toward the public as depicted in The Crown. That put - the casting and acting for almost everyone is spot on.

I still think that this speech was a mere concession to the public, because back then the RF lost popular support due to the way they dealt with Diana's death.
And what did one of Tony Blair's staff members say about it in "The Queen" after having read a copy: "Might want to scrape the frost off it first"...

    • @tessdurberville711
      @tessdurberville711 8 місяців тому

Tony Blair was blindly besotted with Diana. If he had slept with her, his wife would have destroyed them both. He was not her type. She preferred those who worked below stairs and he was too English.

I went into London the day after watching the cortege. I'll never forget the scent of the flowers outside Buckingham Palace. Those people in the crowds should be ashamed of themselves for the way they yelled at those two grieving boys.

I was only 5 at the time, but even I could sense the anger and upset over Diana’s death. I couldn’t for the life of me work out why people were so angry at someone who at the time looked like my granny. I knew nothing about Diana or the royals obviously at the time but that week in 1997, the UK well and truly flipped it’s lid in a way we haven’t seen since. The TV was completely North Korean in that it scrapped all the other programmes for Diana, something which didn’t totally happen even when the Queen passed away.
It was a truly weird time and hopefully not to be repeated again ( a tragedy for Diana’s sons and family and the loss of an icon.) In retrospect, King Charles is lucky that his reign has gone so smoothly so far (bar the odd book by Harry.)

Unfortunately, the late queen made a public announcement during an official speech, that when charles proceeds the throne 'she' would like the nation, has her wish, to accept camilla has charles queen consort. Therefore, it was the late queen who gave this title to camilla.
This was the done so because the late queen knew that firstly, it would be frowned upon if charles gave it to camilla himself, and secondly, the nation still carried with them the thought of how Diana was treated ,and it should and rightly so, have been Diana title of Queen (not 'consort' but queen has she was the biological mother to the future king,William). So the queens blessing played a big part in Camillas present title and public acceptance by royal wish.
Also recorded in history is the sad look on Charles face at his wedding to Diana at the altar. This was probably due to the fact that the woman that he 'truly' loved stood only yards away at his wedding to princess Diana!. (with Diana's knowledge of her presence!). Diana is on public record of saying, that has she entered the church she was visually searching the guests /crowd for one face...Camilla!.
It was more than unfortunate that it took Diana's death for the royal family to realise the reality of both the nations held affection of Diana, and her importance to them. Both a loss to the nation, her immediate family and the royal establishment.

@tessdurberville711 Diana deserved happiness. Her boys thought that too.
The no show from the Queen was not forgotten.
If Charles hadn't rejected her she would have never been in the car crash .its that simple.nothing to do with her boys at all.
