I really like this trainer. He's very intelligent, and asks the right questions. And he seems to really know what he's doing.
I like these British boxers especially that
Jess Jeffries
He’s talking out of his ring piece
He knows how to squash his own nose to give the impression that he’s a real boxing man but he knows bugger all about boxing training.
Started implementing the speed bag a couple years ago and noticed my lead hook started to get faster and more accurate in sparring..
Accurate rapid movement of the arms when punching was my take away from learning to hit the speedball too
@@joebovovitch7803 Would you say the speed bag is worth it and usefull? im thinking of getting one
@@jackfrances4822 yes! it helps with your upper body endurance and really helps with your accuracy and timing when punching.
@@PellySideCustoms Thanks man!
@@jackfrances4822 Also extremely beneficial for blocking speed, accuracy and strength, which can make or break a fight. Be cautious of the quiet guys who step into a fight with a smile, their defense is usually finely tuned and they will probably make you embarrass yourself.
The speedbag is great for changing rhythm at angles and building shoulder muscles
True, but you can build your shoulders in so many better and more efficient ways, tho. Trying to build your shoulders using a speedbag isn't generally a sure-thing. Shadow-boxing with handweights is better, imo, and it gets you used to wearing bigger gloves and keeping your hands up during the fight. I do like using the speedbag, tho.
The speed bag seems to be a great exercise for your triceps
@@TheDavey700 thats what i was going to add. shoulders especially the rotator and triceps
Speedbag is useless
@@GilbertSyndromenice
The speed bag is a brain trainer, it improves reflexes and sharpens your mind.
I like this guy. He dares to ask the 'why' questions instead of blindly following the pack
He should have asked why that platform was such a loose wobbly piece of crap.
Thank you
My speed bag at home is the best friggin upper body ENDURANCE tool I own. It absolutely SMOKES my front delts and rotator cuffs, both of which have been surgically repaired from other injuries. I've worked my way up from only a few punches to 20-25 seconds of constant striking, and each "set" leaves me absolutely worn out. The speed bag has rehabbed both shoulders and taught me just how out of aerobic shape I really was. Once the light bulb in your head turns on to the "rhythm" aspect, you suddenly want to hit the damn thing until you can't lift your arms anymore. When someone sees you hitting one, especially other MEN, they instantly assume you're a "boxer" and won't start any trouble. I've literally had a couple punks at my local gym conspire to "test me" after they saw me talking to a girl one of them was dating, and it was obviously it pissed them off. So I clobbered the speed bag for a few minutes and their reaction was hilarious. An instant "OH SHIT! He's a BOXER! We better not fuck with him!"
You can definitely feel it in the forearms. I have one along with a 100 lbs heavy bag and I've gotten alot better at the speed bag now. I think its great for big people because at least for me it gives me Endurance. I'm 6'4 288 lbs and I love going at it with the speed and heavy bag. Anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes on it with in-between workouts like push-ups and pull ups and dips.
Crap this guy is bigger than me...sweep the leg
Well I'm 6 feet 380lbs I stopped after 17 minute and felt like I could go a half hour more. I'm not a boxer but I have become sort of addicted to it. Just sharing my experience
i did exactly that today pushups in bewteen 4 15min sets on thebspeed bag
I've wondered myself years ago when I would keep it going for hours. Why am I doing this? Why can't I stop?
what did it improve the most mate
It might help with speed, hence speed bag. Definitely with endurance and of course timing. Muhammad Ali did 5-7 rounds daily while in camp. Many of the best of all time happened to be very good at it. You name all the top fighters in recent memory and I bet 98%+ were very skilled with high intensity speed bag work.
It's help my timing and accuracy immensely. I throw several combinations on it. Jab, hook, cross. I love the triple jab while moving. Feignts, slips, if you can get creative, the skills will transfer into the ring.. Also i practice throwing loose, relaxed punches and work on form. Turning the hands over, snapping the jab and right cross with perfect form. Also i never have to drop my hands. It has definitely helped shoulder endurance.
It is a great tool if you know how to use it right, only problem with it is, very few people know how to hit it with their knuckles. I really don't know why everyone hits it with the side of there hands when you don't fight that way. Just the same anytime you are moving your hands its going to help you stay fit and that is a good thing. Smokin Joe
Its not much about weather u should hit it with your knuckles its more a arms and shoulder conditioning and a mental exercise for focusing too because regardless your not going to punch anyone using that motion with your knuckles or without.
I throw normal punches at mine.
@@jamesrogers4674 ur doing it wrong then 😂
And thats the reason you’re not a pro.
There's multiple techniques where you work the bag when using your knuckles instead of the more standard way we're all use to seeing. We always called it doggy paddling or the doggy paddle technique at my gym. Look it up im sure you'll find some how to videos on here.
I really like the speaker knows what he's talking about!
Alr this is only video I saw That actually answers my questions now im definitely buying it
Supposedly the speed bag was made by Jack Dampsey to develop timing for counters and hard hits because hitting it hard makes it move faster.
So using successive punches that are all hard would make it move very quickly.
The object is to make it move fast without contradicting your stance or power.
I agree. I have three different size speed bags right now. Hitting the big one, a 10" x 12" really takes a lot more power to make it move fast. With the smallest bag the effort isn't much more than if you were doing the same motion without the bag. With a big bag, the bag is heavy and requires quite a bit more force to make it smash into the platform and spring back fast. You can't just put your hands through the motions and keep the bag flying. You have to really hit it with power. You can become a lot harder hitter with a big speedbag. It will give you true knock-out power.
The speed bag helps significantly with hand and eye coordination. It also helps with reflexes. Hand and eye coordination is very important in fighting. The speed bag helps you hit a moving target with better accuracy. Better reflexes will help you bob and weave and parry punches with your fists.
"He may have been your father, boy. But he wasn't your daddy."
Seems like one of those things where a boxer may be conscious about not doing it, so do it "just in case" it benefits you since you dont eant to lose that percent of performance. But surely hand cor. and strength endurance are the main features?
I'd always thought it was for rhythm and co-ordination.
I like this dude. The speed bag is "mythical" like dude said. None of the good fighters I know fuck with it in MMA, but a good amount of gyms still have one. Why would you waste time on something that doesn't really emulate a real punch. I'd rather explode on the heavybag for 3-5 minutes with applicable combos or hit mits-but to each their own.
I would imagine it’s good for conditioning the hands themselves to get used to actually punching. It’s easy to forget, but beginners need stuff like that.
Just from someone who doesn’t know anything about this I would say it builds stamina arm strength shoulder strength speed agility timing strength in general endurance etc.
I'm wondering if part of it's purpose could be training a muscle memory around deflecting incoming strikes to the face.
it's good for those effective jabs
All the greatest boxers devoted time to the speedbag. It is sacrament
Love that left hook thanks for this video very helpful
If you work it like an opponent and punch it like a chin but not enough to damage the bag then it's an excellent tool to use. It's fun exercise.
My mother sent me a 6 dollars speed bag so all I wanna know is does it matter what kind of speed bag do you use? It’s all made of Plastic
Dino G Demetro
There is not a bunch of difference between a big dollar Speed Bag and a Cheap Speed Bag but there are some out there that are JUNK
True
Paulie D' The Punch Professor
There's a HUGE difference between a quality PLATFORM and a junk platform. Most of the bags you can buy will be good. But if the platform is not ROCK SOLID, with almost zero movement, it's gonna screw up any rhythm you hope to get. That's why you almost always see speed bag platforms in the top boxing gyms made out of really thick, heavy wood. And why you almost always see a bunch of sandbags on top of them. It's to prevent vibration, twisting and any other movement that will disrupt the rhythm of the bag.
@@seanwilliams480 couldn’t have put it any better
This whole video was interesting and insightful
I think it helps the coordination of your hands
Speed bag great for Double jab too
That bag mount and platform is so sloppy and loose it's beyond annoying just to even watch
I always tried to see how many left hooks I could time consecutively
that base for the speed bag is meant to absorb the vibrations and instead, it just wobbles 😂😂
Seems like a knowledgeable guy
I got faster punches because of the Speedball
never stand in one spot
It's good for timing
Nah, first piece of equipment to go if any would be the skipping rope. You can skip and speedbag the same time. 2 birds, one stone.
skipping rope is just as important as the heavy bag. Ask Ali Pacman and Mayweather. People who dont skip rope are flat footed and get hit more
Great take
Pacquiao love the speed bag.
My go to ADHD medication 😂
Who does he train
Where is from his accent? He speak quicky.
It’s for coordination, that’s all. everything else people say it’s for is bs
Who is this trainer?
Is the speed bag good for cardio? losing weight?
Yess and chest muscle
Everyone’s always trying to take away what traditionally has always been a part a component of what was used as if our history does not know. That’s the problem all the other pieces of machinery why are we trying to fix something that isn’t broken. ✝️
It's for showing off for the cameras before a big fight. Haha

Put a hack in it jack!!
Brilliant but your oxygen intake is all over the place.....but I couldn't do it
Speed bag or punch bag? Please help me😂
You could "build shoulder strength and endurance" with the same effectiveness by just holding your arms out in front of you for 3 minutes
By "the same effectiveness" I mean about as effective as poop
Zero applicability to boxing, everyone please stop bullshitting
What happened to his nose
Useless Training on this bag. Other then conditioning. Maybe, and little of ritham sence. But it's for nothing in a fight. With a double end bag or reflex bag one can get much more out of it.
Seems like you also considered spelling class pretty useless as well. If you're a boxer, I'm betting every opponent who is better on the speedbag has beaten you. Probably by knockout.
@@seanwilliams480 cool story bra
nose look like TMNT
Probably genetics but I'm not surprised he got it from getting his nose smashed in with jabs

Li00tutorial lol
I don't even notice things like that. Something is wrong with people to look for anything they perceive as wrong with someone else. It stems from insecurity's in themselves, it makes them feel better about themselves if they cut someone else down. Really simplistic way of thinking.
lol he doesnt know how to use the speed bag and doesnt understand the point of the bag. he is really good at doing it wrong though
the point of the bag is to build muscle memory. practice doesnt make perfect, practice makes permanent. if youre hitting it with the back of your hands with your elbows up like he is, you dont know what youre doing. in a fight you want elbows down, protecting ribs, hands covering jawline, punching with your first 2 knuckles. this guy is like most, he has no idea why that bag exists.
It especially good for beginners to learn how to hit a moving and reactive target. Also to teach the concept of timing.
Im a beast with the speed bag. But i dont know any boxing
BEARDED BEAST lol
Go join a boxing gym you can learn the fundamentals in about 6 months.
@@rroohhaann123ful depends on what you define as fundamentals i started in sept 2019 now training 8 times a week and still fundamentals are not ingrained 100%
@@goldanimal3931 everybody learn at a different my boxing skills nice but I just haven't been with a coach n I'm a converted southpaw n I'm 21
I’m on day two of training. My form has immensely improved along with speed and power on heavy bag. I got the jump rope technique down. All i need to master is the speed bag haha.
Speed bag is a musical instrument disguised as gym equipment
Then, play it for 1 hour straight and put a pair of earplugs in.
Your shoulders will sing to you after your session.
I feel like it just keep boxers entertained when they get bored during training
Taught me not to dropp my hands.I skateboard as well and that showed me how to use my hipps just like doing a 180.put skateboard and speedball together you be amazed
Yo I skate too. Just found this out today carving figure 8s and punching the little foam doubele-end ball on my way by each time. Ya probably low carryover , but I'm 31 and I e been a consistent lifter for 13 years... I don't feel athletic at all kuz I suck at doing anything other than single plane joint movementlol . Skating and boxing made he feel athletic tho. Im not a tech skater, just roll around, sad Ollie here and there, kickflip on the grass lol. Also heard that styles win fights so I def need to keep developing this style till I can kickflip-1-2-shuv-it on a boy
I totally disagree I have a full gym in my house but haven't used a speed bag in 20 years. I have double end, heavy, ect ect. A while back I got a speed bag and was so unimpressed with myself. It works, the shoulder, rhythm, timing, ect. I say it's a must. But what do I know..
James Tony doesnt do speed bag or road work.. he just spars
Truth
And now he can barely speak.

I don’t think that alarm was loud enough. Be sure to blast it until my ear drums bleed next time.
That platform is CRAP! Look at how loose it is and how much it moves from even just a little striking. It needs sandbags on top. If this trainer thinks this is a good speed bag platform, no wonder he doesn't believe in it.
Using a timer for 3 minutes. Very hard going for 2 minutes even.
I don't see the use of a speed bag i'd rather do a double end bag training as for skip rope they are other cardiovascular exercises.
the freedy roach drill got me to have one of the best left hooks in my gyms.
I love how honest he is.
This dudes nose has been smashed over a thousand times
Manie Pacquiao can kill 3 min easy
His nose, ... holy shit.
Is it good for speed
