So I have zero interest in these mics at the moment but I was just glad to see a new D4darius video 👍
Thanks for giving advice on the practical application of each on top of the review and comparison. So many people don’t give context around the differences. You rock!
This channel always has great content, and I thank you for that. Viewing your videos has taught me a lot about film in general.
I enjoy your shorts too. All videos on this channel are put together well. Keep up the good work.
This is a great video. Was on the fence between the two and this succinct and detailed video sold me on the Tascam. Thanks!!
I'm filming a short soon so this really helped. THANKS DARIOUS✌🏿
Love the transitions
Thanks for the video! I just picked up the tascam!
I love your transitions
great video again, never heard of the tascam before this but now i'm quite interested because of how dependable it seems to be.
I use a dog trainer clicker to sync my audio so once I've got my second tascam setup and my camera recording I click the dog trainer and it clips both microphones no problem. And that spike in the audio I used to sync up and post. I did a whole feature film this way and it works no problem
Hand clap?
@@oneeyedphotographer I use a a hand clap when my clicker is not nearby.
Man, I'm sooo glad you just to happen to have decided to make this video. I'm struggling with summing down a takstar and a 1 out of 2 synco lavs on the left channel with the other on the right and I'm pretty sure the solution is putting the shotgun on something like the dr10L, I just needed to be sure! 🙏🙌💯
MAN, have I missed you Darious!! Thanks for the info as always fam ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾.
brilliant review - love your style!
Another great video Darious! In addition to the content, it looked so good! Was this recorded with the 60D, or the G7 or the G4? What lens did you use?
Do you think this would work as a 2 mic, 2 actors set-up: Plug the audio splitter into the Zoom H1. Plug one Lav into one channel, then the RODE wireless GO receiver into the other. Then plug another lav into the wireless GO transmitter? I already own an H1 so am considering purchasing the Rode wireless GO to do this. The advantage in my mind is that the 2 tracks will already be pre-synced when starting the edit.
Did you ever try this?
Nice. Well done. I love my Tascams. Main track. Safety track. Has never failed me. Turn limiter off. Limiter sucks.
RBF!
SNORKYMEDIA Ha.
Honestly this video came just in time, I was literally looking into a system like this
Either of these will serve you well.
I’ve used both and personally love the reliability of the Tascam. There were a few moments, using the Rode mics, where I’d get interference or the sound would cut in and out. Good luck.
I've been raving about the Tascam DR10L for the past year or so. I have two in my backpack at all times. I use it to record my live presentations (I'm a speaker, former magician) when my camera is halfway back in the theater, to get crystal clear voice reproduction for future promotional videos. Plus having two on me means at any moment I can record an impromptu interview for my podcast or YT channel by tossing one on each of us. As you say here, it takes literally seconds to have both recording, and I always keep my settings with the safety track enabled, so no matter what, I'm good to go. Seriously, best money spent on audio gear in ages.
Hey man, literally your videos are insanely awesome and informative. I was wondering what you were using to hide your lav mic because it sounded really good and I could barely hear any clothing rustle at all! Let me know?
I own both! Both amazing units and services their own unique purposes.
Very helpful comparison thank you
Thanks for the insight as always.💪
Peace. Been waiting for you to compare these two units. And I'm still unsure of which one to get...smh...the insight you gave and give is a blessing. Peace
Timely video - my Rode Wireless Go arrived on Saturday; I have specific areas in my workflow where one is more convenient than the other, and I am very happy with the audio quality I get from both.
What a review! Loved it. Thank you!
Great video as always. For beginners on a budget, you can also use the Sony UX560. They're about $80. I've used them with the onboard mics and they sound surprisingly great.
Hey Mate! Great video, just wondering do you have to line up the footage with the tascam in post?
Good video. Very informative and to the point.
Hey brother, you don't know how long I have been waiting for your next video.
what takes you soo long.
you know am always dying to see a video from you!
keep hustling!!
I love that you mention using 1 lav mic for 2 actors. It isn't ideal, but I wanted to buy a nicer lav system that I can use for years to come rather than 2 cheaper options. I did a short where we were hiding the mic in a cup holder for a car scene and in a cup for other scenes. I got a pair of DR10L's shortly after to make sure I'd get better audio in the future.
I've been shooting videos (meeting type stuff) for 30 years. From DAY ONE Audio has been the thing that has been the biggest hassle! THIS video has been an excellent reminder of how vital it is to hammer down the sound.
I have always sought to monitor the sound, but when I started making UA-cam videos specifically FOR UA-cam, that went out the window pretty fast - I looked kind of odd in the first few videos, wearing my headphones! I also am a HUGE fan of NOT using wireless, because even WITH wired sound, I'd get RMI / EFI Issues that I'd have to work around. I have found that my Rode SmartLav+ plugged into my cell phone (ZTE Axon 7 (no longer made)), does an incredible job for "off camera recording," and I love it.
Then I realized that the very ZTE Axon 7 that has that built in recorder is also the very device I use to operate my Drone... thus, for Drone flights with live audio, I need a different solution, so I started looking into these sorts of devices.
Thanks for the video - it is excellent in so many ways!
Thanks, Darious! This video could not come at a much better time! I'm in the process of deciding which audio gear to buy that is flexible enough for both narrative and corporate videos. I think once you get over the fear of not monitoring your audio the Tascam is the best solution. A couple of Zoom H1 with lavs are probably the best value for the money.
I just ordered the Rode because of the built-in microphone. Thanks for making this video.
Thank you for this great tutorial!!
I like the new framing! I'm still running on old H1 and it does a good job :)
I really appreciate the added "live in action"/practical test, which lacks in a lot of these reviews, and definitely laughed at the pop-corn part 😅 Thanks
I have 2 Rode Go's, i love them like no other. I wish they had the second audio back up feature though that would be nice!
I have both and use both, Wireless Go to the camera and the DR-10L on the talent. But it is for redundancy, quality is similar for both. I love the DR-10L and always find a way to use it in addition to whatever else I am using.
Very very very useful video D4darious. Thank you.
Brilliant review, thanks!
never regretted the day I chose to sub to you man. Always find your videos helpful. Quick question - is there a way to hook up multiple lavalier mics via one single transmitter for either the Rode Wireless Go or the Tascam (e.g. 4 or 5 mics at the same time unlike the common 2way breakout cable/splitter) ?
As always, good stuff! 👍
I got the zooms and the Dr 60 but I’m going to add the Tascam 10L. Easy, fast and effective. I love the backup recordings. Oh yes, another Dope Video.
Thanks so much for this video!
Loved your content. Great work! I use the Tascam DR10L for a lot of my VLOGS and projects we do with out clients. Have to admit for weddings this is the only mic for me. I have four of them and even the all white version for the brides dress! Great mics and you did a great review on them! Thanks again for the videos I just subscribed. :)
Do you have time lag/phasing issues when you have two subjects mic’d?
@@Kells9482 No, we honestly have not. I'm using the DR10L and we sync all the audio in post.
I use both, Rode Wireless Go to the camera with the Tascam DR-10L on the talent, along with the Rode transmitter and lav. Two lavs, two independent systems, so no reshoots due to lost audio. I used the Tascam DR-10L on talent as a minimum setup. Love the Rode system for close distances between transmitter and receiver. Good job D4D.
I recently bought the Saramonic dual Wireless system... used it in scene in one of my short films. Sounds pretty good. I had the Rode wirelss system in my hand at B&H but put it back down because it wasn't a dual system.
Been using tHe tascam for a few years i prefer the audio from it over a boomed mic. Really like the backup audio track feature.
The DR10L is amazing! I use it a lot.
This is one of the most helpful videos I've ever seen. I have the H1N and bought a Synco wireless system. I hate the feedback I get when monitor via headphones. I'm gonna stick with my Zoom and my super long Boya lav 🤣. Big fan bro. Keep it up, we appreciate you. 💪🏾
I have the wirelss GO, and its an incredible mic. Just bought the rode videomic ntg, gonna do a review on both and test them out.
Love your vids
Perfect timing! I just got the Tascam a couple of days ago and I am much less concerned about not monitoring the sound feed. Also - I got a free license for iZotope RX7 Elem, and their noise reduction just made my day.
Not returning the recorder now)
Thanks for the great video. Would you please make one Video about the "bibs and bobs" :D:D Which one is good for what etc.... I would like to buy some stuff but need inspiration/recommendations. That would be great!!! :)
How is the wireless go for close range audio with back turned occasionally? I do live stream dance tutorials and looking for a solution. Thanks.
Hey Darious, I was wondering if you could show us how to film under serious time constraints. How can I make sure my shoot is as time efficient as possible?
That would be really interesting!
So helpful!
Great review. I work alone in most of my shoots. My experiment with sound has been an unending saga. I had a sony wifi mic earlier connected to my handicam SR10E which was the best for all seasons. Never had interference and it had continuous battery level LED signal on the receiver which can be seen from miles away. But the interface was a strange Sony proprietary thing which cannot be used on my Nikon camera or my g85. There is no adapter for it yet.
Now instead I use zoom h1 and a sony recorder with lav mics for both. I have had situations where both mics have failed as there is no way to monitor live. You can't keep asking your subject during a corporate interview to check if their mic is working. Sometimes the batteries die in the middle of the shoot and you won't even be aware of it. One of the lav mics is Boya which also has a button cell and even that can die in the middle of the shoot.
Another problem even with wired set up is interference (especially zoom h1). There will be a loud humming sound if it is near a computer or any such electronic items. When you are checking sound it would be perfect, but when the subject takes his position at his desk near his computer the loud hum becomes unbearable and you won't know that has become unusable. It cannot be removed by any editing software in post. Sound is my biggest nightmare. In corporate shoots there is no time for checking the sound performance continuously. I am waiting for someone to make a robust, low-cost sound recording solution like the Sony wifi mic.
great work again brit...i love both of them...two great manufactures...i ecently bought the rode micro for my content creation kit...that tascam is totally advance..
Nice. Still have 3 Zoom H1s. Still grab them from time-to-time for something quick. LOVE the message - USE THAT S**T! LEARN THAT S**T! :) Oh yeah, thanks for getting me jonesing for popcorn. Ummmm....white cheddar popcorn. 😀😀😀
Kev-kev! The H1s are the truth lol!
3:42 I never thought I would laugh so hard at the alphabet. Good editing makes for some great humor😂
Hey dude, been watching your videos, really want to start making narrative short films and have only bought a camera and have the inbox lense. I believe I have a really good script and will start casting soon, have 100 bucks left to spend what other equipment should I buy to enhance my film, again only have the camera, if you could give me some advice that would be great. Love your videos, your short films inspire me a ton!
Woah yes...the noise floor on the Go is higher than the Tascam. I currently have a Go system, but I was curious if a direct audio recording tool like Tascam would eliminate more floor noise. It sounds like it does.
Where you been Bro? Good to see you
"Success is about doing common things extraordinarily well" I'm going to have this tattooed onto the inside of my eyelids.
Great video. Love your style. Tell me though, are there lenses in those glasses? I've never seen anyone who could control eyeglass reflection so well!
He just wears the frames to look smarter. 😂🤣
@@TitanEntertainmentvideo it's workin'! Man looks like a genius to me!
love this video. You in AZ??
Great video!
great info...
Now I want some popcorn 😂
Great video.
That dual recording option is legit on the Tascam!
Big Knop. Thanks for commenting Brutha
Hmmm. I was just about to get the Rode Go system. Now I gotta think again. I own a Tascam DR60D Mk II, which is great.
what movie did you watch
the intro captivated my attention for some reason. popcorn really is good stuff.
Your camera and image are so good
Fantastic review man! Quality shit!
Love Darius videos. I had a bunch of gear sitting in a box because we run a charity training centre. Now. I’m doing a bunch of short projects and learning fast.
Record yourself guys. Think of the scenario and do it.
man and the zoom f1? for me seems to be the ultimate compact record system, but so underrated tho.. u think it's a better option over this 2 recorders?
Am I missing something? Seems to me like this isn't a “vs.” situation, it's completely different use cases - one is a straight-up wireless mic for recording sound to your video capture file, while the other is a concealable recorder for recording a separate audio track that you can later sync to your video capture file in post. So if you're doing post, having a separate track gives more flexibility but requires more steps, and if you're not doing much in post or are running straight to a live-stream encoder you're better off getting the sound onto your video capture. Right, or am I not getting this whole thing?
Technically it's the same use case (i.e., capturing video to be used for a video/film) but different tools/processes to achieve the goal.
Use the tascam for virtually all my videos.. Love it! Highly recommended!!
I use my h1n with a rode lav and it works great when I have to go with no wires back to my F4.
i own a rode "go" but that tacam got me thinking.... the threaded jack socket means you can use it with industry quality lav mics like a sennheiser me2 or even the coveted counntryman b3.... im just wondering what the noise floor would be like. if im using quality lavs i also need to know that the noise floor / pre amps etc are not contributing to a degraded sound once recorded. at least recording to a dedicated recorder you can monitor and adjust on the fly also you get dual sd card recording and can transmit a monitor signal to a dp or cameraman at the saem time.
The H1n grey goes on sale at B&H every so often.
I have a few H1's and N H1n... they work awesomely. I mostly use to record from mixer and the Tascam with lav.
...H1n sale price is like $80.
It's a no brainer.
Should I take tascam dr10L or rode go ii ?
I want for weddings for the groom and record the audio separately from the cameras audio
Do you have any tutorial for eq and compression for tascam?
Wondering - I'm not using either...I'm using a cell phone with a reasonable lav mic and an app. With a SD Card and the phone recording 10 hours isn't an issue. Have you considered that as an option? Non-activated phone was $30 and Mic was $20.
We've used an iPhone with a lav several times where we can can start the recording, lock the phone and stick it in an actor's pocket...or just put it on a chair or something. Just don't want to accidentally stop it. 😂
Hi Darious, I film sports - basketball, volleyball, track, softball and so on. What would you recommend for a mic’d up scenario? Oh, that doesn’t cost thousands of dollars...
what if you used them both together and vetoed the recording to the DSLR?
thereby using the tascam SD card and the versatility of 'wireless' even tho the tascam is light enough?
Nice video - thank you! But... Why is it everyone forgets the Wireless Go II can also do onboard recording? Why... but... but... why?
Hey Darious, what is the cable you used to monitor audio from de rode wireless go? If you could provide a link that would be awesome or if anyone else knows what cable should I buy i will be so grateful!
Thinking of using the wireless go to mic a yoga instructor. Still dropout issues without line of sight within 10m from camera?
Can you go from the tascams headphone out to the input of the rode?
13:00 That sold me on wanting popcorn HAHAAAA
D, stands for dope! Marvelous, illustrious video. Thanks for fluency of helpful word! I think Røde Wireless Go for my show! Happy subscriber here. Cheers! 💛😎
Can't you plug headphones into the Tascam and monitor live? I'm pretty sure you can. I've got one on the way, and that's one of the primary features I need.
HI, very interesting..I'm a newbie in this field...and many others..😇 What is the software you're using to make the video ?? Thanks
Are you in AZ brother?? What is a your recommendation lav mic for Rode Wireless Go? just bought one and used a $20 mic and frequently got high frequency hums. Not looking for the mic to cost the same as the Rode, but something better that prevents those hums. Showin love from Mesa
Good info
why not mention sarmonic blink 500 t2 it comes with 2 transmitters one receiver and 2 lavs
Hi Darius. What is that lav mount on your stomach?
