For a camera this size, the stabilization and video quality is pretty good for GO 3, the comparison footage actually looks fairly decent even next to GoPro. I wouldn't complain as a ordinary user.
I can’t tell much different tho u should be able to by a mile, I just ordered go 3, perfect for skiing and biking for hours. Will suit me n my needs perfect, I’ll trade in some things for quality anyway.
My biggest complaint is no external mic support. That is a big deal for motorcycle and bicycle vloggers. If you are wearing a motorcycle helmet a wireless mic is needed. Also, the wireless mic is generally going to have some kind of windscreen to protect against wind noise at high speed. This camera is meant more for walking or recording without sound and doing voice overs. It's a fantastic camera if used for the right scenarios. I don't really see it as a full action camera. This is the perfect family home recorder replacement. You take this on family vacation, attach it to your neck pendant, and enjoy your memories. It is a light weight set it and forget it device. And that's the selling point. I would like to see micro sd support added to the base in order to transfer recordings over without a pc. Replaceable batteries would be cool if they could implement it correctly.
I am not really in the market for a camera but it seems like a little gem this one. That said I dislike the way manufacturers nowadays tend to produce what I would call throw-away-technology that becomes completely useless once the rechargeable battery either breaks down or just has too many cycles on it. And okay, maybe you can have the battery replaced at factory level but that usually ends up becoming so expensive that you might as well just buy a new camera, which is perhaps what they plan on you doing?

Sucks there's no SD card slot or replaceable battery but the size of it is worth it and phenomenal for what it's able to do. As far as Gopro, I've been an Insta360 fan for a while. Have the X3 and never had any issues with it whatsoever. I know a lot of old Gopro guys that switched over to Insta360 as well so that should tell you something haha
Just broke my Hero 10 and I'm getting the Hero 11 in the mail today. Thanks to your fine review, I still feel good about my choice. Some cool features but I'm happy I'm sticking with the GoPro - swapping out batteries and memory is key for me. Congrats on approaching the 100k sub line. Impressive!
I think the worst part of the Go 3 is that the case it is not enclosed. It is not as portable as the Go 2. You can't just grab it and put it in your pocket along with your keys because you will scratch the screen or the lens guard.
Great review, thanks! I'm tempted for the versatility of a tiny camera with magnet, but too bad battery can't be swapped out when out for extended periods. I don't want to carry a power bank during a race, but this could be useful for shots at aid stations and other specific times, GoPro the rest of the time. Thanks for the info!
The GO3 actually still has just one LED, it's just moved to the bottom, which I think is a bad move because as you turn on the camera, your finger covers the LED. Good job designing team! Towards the center of the GO3 is the second microphone.
I'm still learning mine. Two minor complaints from me. One is the white exterior. I use mine flying PPG and already have some finger and thumb smudges mostly on the controls. I would prefer the dark grey like my X3. The other is I don't like having to pull on the lens cover to remove it from the action pod. The magnets are strong and I'm just not thrilled how that pressure might be affecting the lens. Only 1 flight so far but nice results and much better screenshots from the video than I get from the X3.
I'm intersted in the Camera. But I don't understand, why they didn't put a SDCard-slot in the ActionPod. It's not Waterproof anyway. When using the Go3 in ActionPod, you could directly capture on SD, when using Go3 out of ActionPod, you could transfer the Files to SD after inserting it back to ActionPod. I have a go 2 its so handy close the case and put it in your pocket unfortunately looks like you cant do this with the go 3. Was really hoping for something better as i have a go pro 9 also a insta 360x3. O well saves me some money 😂
I'm getting one because it's easier to shoot family video with this. Been waiting for the Go 3 since last year. Wish it was launched earlier as my son is 1 year old now. Would have been nice to be able to shoot his 1 year growth.
Great review. Loved this concept, I am pulling the trigger real soon! After the footage you shared, I will sell my gopro. Image quality is basically the same, but the versatility of go3 will help me capture a lot of new perspectives.
I was surprised how much better the GO 3 is when compared to the GO 2. 1) The new Pod makes the GO 3 so much easier and fun to use. 2) The video quality is quite a jump over the GO 2. 3) Longer battery time. 4) More storage. 5) Doesn’t overheat as quickly as the GO 2. Even though I was disappointed at first that it didn’t have 4K, this is one solid upgrade.
Ok I must say I love seeing the Go 3 and it’s amazing stuff, BUT, seeing that Go Pro Hero 11 video quality (especially the audio talking video at 25:22 ), it’s GORGEOUS- the colors are nice and quiet/dark, and the resolution is super crisp
I bought the GoPro11 Black on our cruise in April 2023 and love it. Did a Great job snorkeling. Just received the Go 3 yesterday so I am working on learning it. Will be trying it in Dec when we go on another cruise and snorkeling. Just was wondering if there were any issues with editing the video or do you need to color grade much?

Congrats on almost 100k!!! I just don't understand the low amounts of storage in the year 2023. I almost understand non removable memory but why not go with 512gb or something? It's designed to record high quality video.
Thanks! I think 512gb might be overkill to be honest. Even with the 64gb version I have at max resolution you can record for several hours. I suspect they didn't have enough space on the chip for more storage considering how tiny the camera is... but I could be wrong. Still though, I do think having 32,64, and 128 options so close in price is odd. They could have easily just gone with a single 128gb option and priced it at $399? It is what it is!
I have the go pro Hero 11, but it has to much options for me. It is a fantastic camera for people, to film for you tube or so . But for me, I have ordered the insta 360 go and I think this is the best choice. Thank you for this video

In my opinion the camera is seriously overprized, probably because implementing an internal memory chip instead of memory card. The 2.7k resolution is not up to GoPro 4k (probably because sensor overheating). I'll wait for the next model which will correct all these issues.
I think ultimately you're paying for the extremely unique form factor of this camera. A GoPro is arguably better in most ways especially if you never intended to use the GO 3 outside of the action pod. However, with the GO 3 outside of the action pod it is EXTREMELY small and can go places that the GoPro cannot. It's also unique in that you get a built in wireless preview while holding the Action Pod when you have the GO 3 mounted in a precarious place. Different tools for different jobs! Both are super cool.
I was planning to buy one, but the tedious extracting footage process and without the external SD card option is kind of a deal breaker to me now…so glad to get this piece of info from this honest review.

I am planning to get an action camera at some point in the future (just bought a new dropper for my bike and upgrading my watch may come next, so the wallet will be empty for a while 😅) and I really like the low profile as I love mountain biking and this seems way less cumbersome than other setups over there. Stabilization on the other hand is a must for me, I am a little worried about the artifacts and the random shaking on your video. Thanks for the detailed review, it was indeed quite helpful! I guess I'm just old and a bit tight ( and in the UK lol) but £400 odd for an action camera is seems REALLY steep. I agree 100% on sd card slot and removeable battery, I know how batteries decay over time and the sd card is just a must imho, some adventures I dont have my phone with me at all and having a few sd cards takes up no space. I fly racing drones and have done for a few years and still not got a smal enough camera with good enough quality to record my flights is hd, looks like I'll be waiting a bit longer. REALLY good thorough review thanks.
Both will overheat if they're pushed hard enough. The Hero 11 got much better in this regard though and since I've owned it I haven't had any issues in "normal" use even on super hot days. The GO 3 is also quite good as well. I only had it overheat one time during my testing and that was at a running track, set up on a stationary tripod filming at max resolution for 30+ minutes on a 90F+ degree day.
Well already bought mine so can’t use referral link but, am following now. Have 4 GoPros with a 9Black being the most recent but, got the 360 for its size to be mounted to my RC trucks to get footage. The GoPros even the mini are just to heavy
Great video, I picked up the matt black 128 gig version and I haven't used it to its full extent yet, I will in the summer months when cycling & kayaking. I find it to be quite an improvement from the last two models. The black version isn't a slippery bar of soap that the while one is. I find that the batty drains if not used for a few days, you can fully charge it, put it aside Ready to be used when needed but when its needed the battery is drained. Any way to avoid this issue?
For me, just walking as I record, the small size of the Insta 360 Go 3 with its magnet hanger for the camera unit plus the availibility in black lately is decesive. Inconspicuous and simple recording is what matters most for me, along with its versatility.
Great review! My main question is that I noticed I can't seem to find the quick capture clips preset lengths like on my instago2 ..I used to like capturing 30 sec clips that would stop automatically when it's done..is that feature no longer in this version cos I can't seem to find it somehow?
The problem I see with this camera is when the battery dies, you are stuck in the water. Unlike the GOPro where you can instantly change out the batteries. I have a little GOPro mini that is based on the same design as this camera with the battery being internal and no way to put another one in when it dies.

I'm most excited about the upcoming Sony A6700, but again... the real world reviews matter for action cams as long an Gerald Undone doesn't review them. The Go 3 would be good for second views from my motorcycle travels but it's not as inovative to merrit my attention. The price is too high for 2.7k. I guess is under 60Mb/s bit rate... I can get the DJI Action 1 at under 150$ and still be able to stick in on my motorcycle anywere I need.
Great non biased review! The issue for me is the price, I can pick up the go 2 for half the price in my region, would you say the go 3 is worth double the price of the go 2?
Depends, the action pod is the big selling point for me. It really changes how useful the camera is and feels like something totally different. With the GO 2 I missed a lot of shots or screwed up my settings because it wasn’t totally obvious.
No 60 fps? 😮💨. Unacceptable for a 2023 camera. I was looking to replace the Sony HDR-AS100V I have. It was from a few years back and still has 60 fps. For an action cam. Is a requirement, not an option. 😢
The Hero 11 looks very good But I’ve had my eye on the Go3 for a long time, and I really wanna get it I hope Insta360 gets more deals so I can get it at the lowest price because it’s 399.99 at the Minimum- which will definitely break the bank a bit I’m very tempted to get it tho-
Interested in one of these for running and other activities, like the magnetic pendant idea, would the camera stay in place you think using that whilst running?
What I notice in standard video mode (maybe user fault): I set "use last settings on quick capture" and if I take the camera from the POD and on the go without the POD I dont get why the ratio is changed when I activate Quick Capture. Sometimes its 16:9 and other time 9:16

It gets hot but it doesn't overheat easily. I did manage to get mine to overheat but it was on a 90F + degree day in direct sunlight after 20+ minutes of filming.
It will if you push it. For most normal situations it’s not an issue. I had it overheat once during my testing where I was doing laps on a track and left the camera recording on a tripod for 20+ minutes .

interesting, that FreeFrame only supports 1440p, same as ProMode on Go2. I wonder what the sensor size on go3 is, if its same size as go2, FreeFrame on go3 has potentially worse quality than ProMode on go2, because of smaller pixels of the new higher resolution sensor.
To my eye the footage looks better on the GO 3 but it is odd that it seems like they’re pixel binning the full sensor readout. I’m assuming it’s either due to file size issues or lack of CPU power… or overheating? Who knows!

How user friendly is it to get video off of the GO 3 onto the computer to edit in separate software along with videos from a GoPro? Would love to use this camera as a POV and a GoPro on a tripod to capture 3rd person at the same time.
It depends. If you shoot in "video mode" it's pretty easy because the files are standard mp4 files with all of the stabilization and effects from the camera baked into the footage. However, if you switch to "FreeFrame" mode that lets you choose your aspect ratio AFTER shooting you need to process the files within the Insta360 app either on a desktop computer or on a phone. In that case there's an additional step between your footage and getting it into your editing software. Hope that helps!

It's a PGY Tech selfie stick that was around $25 on amazon. Insta360 actually merged in some ways with PGY tech and offered a lot of their accessories from their website now as well!
It seems to favor a slightly cooler white balance compared to the GO 2 but it also has a larger sensor so it can gather more light. Thanks for watching!

I just got a go 3 today and I can't export videos to my phone in less then 1 minute. You select you're video and literally press export.

I agree 100% on sd card slot and removeable battery, I know how batteries decay over time and the sd card is just a must imho, some adventures I dont have my phone with me at all and having a few sd cards takes up no space.
I fly racing drones and have done for a few years and still not got a smal enough camera with good enough quality to record my flights is hd, looks like I'll be waiting a bit longer.

When comparing with GoPro, I would have liked to have heard about overheating
Both will overheat if they're pushed hard enough. The Hero 11 got much better in this regard though and since I've owned it I haven't had any issues in "normal" use even on super hot days. The GO 3 is also quite good as well. I only had it overheat one time during my testing and that was at a running track, set up on a stationary tripod filming at max resolution for 30+ minutes on a 90F+ degree day.

Well already bought mine so can’t use referral link but, am following now. Have 4 GoPros with a 9Black being the most recent but, got the 360 for its size to be mounted to my RC trucks to get footage. The GoPros even the mini are just to heavy
Great video, I picked up the matt black 128 gig version and I haven't used it to its full extent yet, I will in the summer months when cycling & kayaking. I find it to be quite an improvement from the last two models. The black version isn't a slippery bar of soap that the while one is.
I find that the batty drains if not used for a few days, you can fully charge it, put it aside Ready to be used when needed but when its needed the battery is drained. Any way to avoid this issue?
For me, just walking as I record, the small size of the Insta 360 Go 3 with its magnet hanger for the camera unit plus the availibility in black lately is decesive. Inconspicuous and simple recording is what matters most for me, along with its versatility.
The quirks of 120fps too :/… I was thinking this was a for sure buy but these handful of issues has me looking back to the X3

You could get away with just the core kit if you have some basic GoPro mounts since it’s compatible. Depends on what you’re planning on filming.
The string on the round magnet is for around your neck not your wrist lol

Great review! My main question is that I noticed I can't seem to find the quick capture clips preset lengths like on my instago2 ..I used to like capturing 30 sec clips that would stop automatically when it's done..is that feature no longer in this version cos I can't seem to find it somehow?
go 3 audio is louder but does not filter noise. go2 sounds better.
The problem I see with this camera is when the battery dies, you are stuck in the water. Unlike the GOPro where you can instantly change out the batteries. I have a little GOPro mini that is based on the same design as this camera with the battery being internal and no way to put another one in when it dies.
Yep, that's a bummer. Though my GO 2 still works great after a couple of years with no noticeable loss in battery life but I do worry about that!

The Go 3 would be good for second views from my motorcycle travels but it's not as inovative to merrit my attention. The price is too high for 2.7k. I guess is under 60Mb/s bit rate...
I can get the DJI Action 1 at under 150$ and still be able to stick in on my motorcycle anywere I need.
The only thing the go 3 does better is capture POV footage. I use it for driving because it can clip to a hat and you don’t even notice it there.
The Go 2 was near perfect, especially incl. case size. The go 3 is a no go for me.
Great non biased review! The issue for me is the price, I can pick up the go 2 for half the price in my region, would you say the go 3 is worth double the price of the go 2?
Depends, the action pod is the big selling point for me. It really changes how useful the camera is and feels like something totally different. With the GO 2 I missed a lot of shots or screwed up my settings because it wasn’t totally obvious.
No 60 fps? 😮💨. Unacceptable for a 2023 camera. I was looking to replace the Sony HDR-AS100V I have. It was from a few years back and still has 60 fps. For an action cam. Is a requirement, not an option. 😢

What I notice in standard video mode (maybe user fault): I set "use last settings on quick capture" and if I take the camera from the POD and on the go without the POD I dont get why the ratio is changed when I activate Quick Capture. Sometimes its 16:9 and other time 9:16

Not directly from Insta360 but you could easily use a GoPro mount and the adapter to get it done!

Everything in this video comes in the box with the camera itself with no additional accessories including that mount. Hope that helps!

Did they fix overheating problem Go2 had? It would heat rapidly and you could not make a shoot over 10 mins, since camera would shut off.
It gets hot but it doesn't overheat easily. I did manage to get mine to overheat but it was on a 90F + degree day in direct sunlight after 20+ minutes of filming.
People are stating in reviews that is still overheats, how accurate is that for you?
It will if you push it. For most normal situations it’s not an issue. I had it overheat once during my testing where I was doing laps on a track and left the camera recording on a tripod for 20+ minutes .

interesting, that FreeFrame only supports 1440p, same as ProMode on Go2.
I wonder what the sensor size on go3 is, if its same size as go2, FreeFrame on go3 has potentially worse quality than ProMode on go2, because of smaller pixels of the new higher resolution sensor.
To my eye the footage looks better on the GO 3 but it is odd that it seems like they’re pixel binning the full sensor readout. I’m assuming it’s either due to file size issues or lack of CPU power… or overheating? Who knows!
I wished you would have tested it in different places. I almost never walk in the woods.

How user friendly is it to get video off of the GO 3 onto the computer to edit in separate software along with videos from a GoPro? Would love to use this camera as a POV and a GoPro on a tripod to capture 3rd person at the same time.
It depends. If you shoot in "video mode" it's pretty easy because the files are standard mp4 files with all of the stabilization and effects from the camera baked into the footage. However, if you switch to "FreeFrame" mode that lets you choose your aspect ratio AFTER shooting you need to process the files within the Insta360 app either on a desktop computer or on a phone. In that case there's an additional step between your footage and getting it into your editing software. Hope that helps!
I just purchased my own today. Could you tell me what is the name of that tiny tripod you mentioned that you are using thats shown at 12:23 in the video? You have the case and the camera next to one another on it. I need that.
It's a PGY Tech selfie stick that was around $25 on amazon. Insta360 actually merged in some ways with PGY tech and offered a lot of their accessories from their website now as well!

It seems to favor a slightly cooler white balance compared to the GO 2 but it also has a larger sensor so it can gather more light. Thanks for watching!
