I agree the cop was totally wrong and dangerous, but as a ccw holder, you can't just drive by a scenario and assume you're a savior with a gun. There's always a chance that you misread a situation and wind up dead or killing the wrong person. A ccw permit will not protect you from the right lawyer. It would be a shame to end up in jail for exercising a right you thought you had. Be careful.

To be fair because of union protection the Chief cannot immediately fire him without an investigation so they are suspended to get them off the streets and very well may be fired after the investigation. I know first hand of a similar situation and the chief fired the officer after the investigation and the police union fought for and got the officer reinstated with the help of the courts. So even if the chiefs fire bad officers many times the unions get them back on the job.

@@rickylewis219 'Being scared' isn't a rational defense for pointing a live gun at civilians who are compliant, non-threatening and unarmed, much less when you are off-duty, in plain clothes, have no visible police identifiers, approach without announcing yourself, and threaten to "dump" them. None of those things reduce your chances of getting shot in the back. It is not 'protecting yourself' when you are the one instigating and escalating hostility. If someone is so 'fearful' that they have to point a lethal weapon at bystanders as a default, they should find a different job more suiting their paranoid and delicate mindset. The officer in this situation wasn't afraid. He was angry.

Suspended is a euphemism for vacation with pay.
Suspended often has pay that can be charged back if the suspension is upheld and turned into a firing. The public employee contracts do not allow immediate firing.

We rarely hear if the suspension become a permanent firing. Sometimes, the cop agrees to resign to save face and maybe save his peace officer certificate. Union contracts and other public employee rules usually require a hearing before the final dismissal. Those issues are private personnel matters at not publicized.
