    Putting a bass feature deep into an accent exercise is wicked.

      Adam Holm even more wicked when you find out they were 6th in drums

    I remember all 3 movements of this exercise being played live back in 2004 at University of the Pacific, in Stockton California. I wish Mr. Rennick would make funky groovy warmups like this and more.

    I met Colin in 92 after they played the Pavilion show in Concord. Real nice guy. He talked to me for quite a while about one of the pieces they played.

    Well, it would make sense for this to be "inspired" by SCV as some are commenting. McNutt marched with SCV and was the indivdual tenor champ when marching with them.

    Amazing bass tuning! The little "minor" juice in it is just beyond the words.

      Right? It's like the modern day Cadets have more Vanguard influence than modern day Vanguard. That might not be true but it seems like it haha

      Funny because at 4:49 they play a warm up obviously inspired by the old school SCV 1st variation of "thirteen" warm up.

    are those 8in spock drums?

    • @TheOnlyBootlegger
      @TheOnlyBootlegger 8 років тому

      Yeah. It really makes more sense than having a 6".

    • @slimeguy8025
      @slimeguy8025 8 років тому

      Why is that?

    • @TheOnlyBootlegger
      @TheOnlyBootlegger 8 років тому

      +slime guy because you've got main drum sizes of 10", 12", 13", 14", so why would you have a 6" spock where an 8" would make more sense.

    • @Jimmy2e_
      @Jimmy2e_ 7 років тому +6

      Timbre. If you want a high pitch that cuts like glass, go for a 6". If you want more resonance and tone, go for an 8". If you want both, have both. Size in relation to the main drums doesn't matter.

  • @thumper303

    is it just me or do the quads’ drum 3s sound out of tune?

    • @malditobandito98
      @malditobandito98 5 років тому

      That's just more or less how the Cadets quads tend to tune their tenors. Or maybe they just didn't tune that day, lmao.

    How the heck are the cymbal players gonna follow among? Poor guys can’t even do paradiddles along with drum lines. Can’t just leave em out like this. #CymbalLivesMatter

    does vic firth realize that warm-ups no one actually wants to listen to? that the point is to get the "hands" warmed up? this video is 80% boring standard practice and only in the last minute worth watching

    • @robertf6409
      @robertf6409 8 років тому

      we've all heard this warm-up a million times. why post another variation. get more interesting content

    • @robertf6409
      @robertf6409 8 років тому

      Jason Frith my point is that listening to loud 8th and 16th notes is not interesting. would appreciate more dynamics and polyrhythm between the instruments

    • @JasonFrith
      @JasonFrith 8 років тому +20

      +Ro F not interesting to *you*. Great playing is always interesting to me. Besides, no one is forcing you to listen. No one owes you anything. If you don't dig it, that's fine. Find something that you enjoy, and watch the hell out of it. Leave those of us who get it, to watch the video in peace.

    • @JasonFrith
      @JasonFrith 8 років тому +5

      Your point is that you are being a narcissist, taking Vic Firth to task for posting something that wasn't personally interesting to you. There's no shortage of drumline videos on the interwebs. Go watch something that interests you, or post your own.
