Okay the fact that it’s Pines of Rome AND Wine Dark Sea make this soooo underrated
It's bittersweet with how good drum corps are getting. It's amazing to be able to watch so many good corps, but also tough to see a corps as good as this come in 6th place.
If that was a 6th place show, performance, and brilliant writing; then someone explain to me please what was.
I was consistently made fun of for loving this show. HOW COULD YOU NOT LIKE IT?!
A lot of it is group think and people only seeing it as numbers. They got 6th, even though they've consistently been in the top 5. A lot of people look at that and think, "Wow this is a terrible show, it got 6th place!" Then more and more people start seeing this as the worst show of all time without explaining why. I know design and color guard were an issue in 2016, but that doesn't make it "horrible, the worst show of 2016" or whatever.
Exactly, not a bad show at all; it was also quite a competitive year as well. I think if it was overall designed better in the beginning without all of the unnecessary changes throughout the season it would have definitely been at least 5th.
Personally, I could never finish watching it simply because it bored the hell out of me. Music was well executed, the rest didn't interest me at all. And it took me until well after the 2016 season to open up to the battery book. Loved '15 percussion, and '16 not so much at first for a while. I think the show design brought them down quite a bit
I'm in your camp - one of my favorites that year! Loved it!!
Me too
i love Wine Dark Sea so much omg
My high school band did a show with that theme and it was horrendous. Was so bad it turned itself into its own meme
Same. My band played it this year as our closer. Best part was prob about halfway through where we had a nod to our ballad. Im still pissed that that part was cut out.
Such a symphonic/orchestral sound from the front ensemble. Love it!
Me too.
Severely under rated show.
Yes, the judging panel was either incompetent or had a personal agenda.
Quickly become one of my top 5 shows of this past season.
Underrated show in my opinion.
That horn intro was sickkkk live
It was Trombones , not horns
Jalen Evans ... OK. Yes Jalen we all know that. Saying 'horn intro' is more of a colloquialism in a quick moment in this context. Why am I evening having to explain this?
Trust me , you didn't have to 😁
+Jalen Evans Your initial reply indicated that I did.
+sodanomusic sarcasm bud , but anyways let's not let this get in the way of a great show , saw this in person and was like wow .Next to the Academy and of course the top three this was one of my favorite shows
The duts at 1:26 scared the hell out of me 0.0
I always love to hear the Cadets play= their sound is distinct and I can pick it out in a heart beat.....I think what has been missing the last few years is programming- something fresh and innovative has not been there. There are some bigger changes staff wise, but sometimes that is what a corps needs to up their game more (not to say The Cadets are ever bad- because they are not).
1049berkeley well yeah they have the 2nd highest amount of wins in dci history with I believe 11 or 10 and in first obviously is bd with 19 and 3rd a tie between cavies and Scv with 7
I agree with distinct sounds, I also have that with SCV percussion. I can just tell when it's them.
yas timpani appreciation forever & always
The editing is so good. Many thanks to all who took the time to film and line it all up. Very impressive.
IT'S YOU! SO WE MEET AGAIN!
+Jackdiddlysquat Yea. The young person who never had a gig before. yayyyy you!
It's actually not that difficult, really. Most editing software have multicam editing features
I am not a percussionist like so many of you, but that being the case when I hear a line that impresses me that much there must be something very very special about them.
And??? I am saying thanks for taking the time to do it to whomever...
8:03 gives me absolute chills.
7:34 till 8:12 for me
As a percussionist and a person who plays viola this show made me fangirl so much tbh
The multiple story changes throughout the season indicated there was no clear thematic argument for the production. That's why it took sixth.
Tylenol right. They’re still outliers. All of them
Sir Underbridge they didn't wear dresses 2016
Holy shit.
I love the 6/8 feel so much... there's just something about it combined with the orchestral sound...
I love this show
Am I the only one that hears Lighting Field by John Mackey in this? 😂
Man 6th place my butt this should've been top 4 atleast
Mackey Productions I know I am being subjective but do you think this show was close to beating Relentless downside up and dreams are made of
@@That_Guy4381 Well, they did say top 4, those shows were top 3.
2016 Cadets got dumped in percussion and brass during finals week. Period.
Seriously man! Can't trust the judges after that one anymore, wtf were they even thinking?
Sixth place drumline my ass! There is no way Cavies were two places better than this be it battery or front ensemble.
To the everlasting shame of the judges .
With total respect for The Cavies, and no desire to put down one prcussion line in comparison to another, The Cadets' percussion program and performance were in a class by themselves.
Yes,....in a "class" by themselves.....good thing they have an IEP.

Interesting to start off this show with the ending to Pines of Rome, just that that piece has such an epic ending in my opinion, that it's engraved in my soul so I feel like this show is ending before it got anywhere
9:23 girl gets smacked when she tosses that horizontal
She was like: O_O
The brass line gives me chills
Pines of rome
Let's get this through from literally every other marching ensemble. Left, right, left, right, left, right and so on
Very good
Very, very, very good. I purposely kept away from all pre-championships contests because I did want to subject myself to the anger I knew the uniform change would engender. The only Cadet shows I witnessed all season, therefore, was a DCI Championships in Indianapolis. Their finals performance was so brilliant and so far ahead of its time I forget all about the uniforms they were wearing (a curse on GH for ever making that change). While others are touting the "evolution of drum corps engendered by the Bluecoast approach; I personally think that The Cadets final performances were so advanced that they had no competition on the field in that regard. All that being said I have no problem with The Bluecoats winning. They were full of energy, entertaining, and fun to watch. It was not drum corps, but it was certainly spectacle. The best constructed show on the field, in my opinion, was Carolina Crown. I thought The Cadets were in a league of their own, however, when it came down to elevation of the activity. Yes, they were confusing to watch (especially if you were a season-long viewer), with a "story or theme" that was so perplexing by how obtuse it was that it challenged the intellect far too much, and paid attention to the fan-in-the-stands entertainment factor far too little. But, and I repeat that, it was performed brilliantly and was so challenging and amazing to the average spectator the concept became far greater than the "story" on which it was constructed. Hell, I even thought that crazy Georges' crazy mannequins were an amazingly, far-thinking prop of the probable future. There were so many "unusual" elements on the field that I would lay money will start showing up in the programs of their competitors as time progresses. The adjudication, unless it improves and discards their ingrained WGI thought process of what constitutes excellence, will be the biggest factor holding drum corps back from what drum corps is capable of being. I do not challenge the expertise of the guilty members of the judging community, but I do think their mind-set is too connected to a marching arts program that has given many of them their opportunity to judge...but the tools only to judge WGI, not drum corps. However much we are told that we are one and the same, we are being sold a bill of goods. WGI is WGI, and what they do is great. DCI is drum corps, not WGI, and at best a distant cousin with a far greater claim to what marching arts should, and hopefully will become as the two organizations battle for the spotlight.
I wanna play the rack when I grow up.

It almost sounded like Carolina crowns 2019 opener at the beginning
So how they judge the percussion award actually? For battery only or both battery and front essemble?
Both

Silent bass drums??
What does that mean? You couldn't hear them? To me they blended so well that they became an integral part of the percussion ensemble rather than a "our time to show off" kind of show...not that there's anything wrong with that. I am in awe of today's bass drum sections.

24 fps? 60? 30? Corps/FE/drum focus in audio mix? I wish it were more consistent across the video
Could you explain that in English for non-percussionists?
Shaw David non of that was related to percussionx, hes sawing the drumline got louder every time the camera was on them and if the could have made it like that through the whole video lol
Shakira? 1:53
This might b the best show ive ever seen in my life. 😆😍👌🏾👌🏾
I think we've just seen real evolution in the drum corps art form.
Excellent source music, extremely talented performers, unique drill...all of that ruined by less than stellar music arrangement and a lost theme. If you look back at preseason camps they originally had much better arrangement on the music front. I'll never know why they made so many changes over the course of the season.
I am amazed at how awful the colorguard is.
