  • ETUDE: In The Lot
    AUTHOR: Mark Perrett
    INSTRUMENT: Snare Drum
    8 REPS OF EACH TEMPO
    PRACTICE TIPS:
    - Play all heights, dynamics, and zones as written.
    - Record yourself, play in a mirror, and pause to take notes as you find personal tendencies and inconsistencies.
    - PLAY ALL RHYTHMS IN TIME! The difficulty of this piece comes from the metric modulations. If one part gets off beat you could lose time very easily.
    - MARK TIME! If you plan to perform in the marching arts, you must be able to put your feet to everything you do.
    - Take this at your own pace! There are a lot of details and everyone is at a different performance level. Pause and isolate parts as needed.
    WHAT IS DRUMLINE SIMULATOR?
    Drumline Simulator is an interactive play-along video platform designed to help you practice Grid Book Exercises, Etudes, Warm ups, and more. This video takes you through reps at different tempos using rhythmically accurate audio tracks and large, detailed sheet music.
    DO NOT ATTEMPT to run the simulator until you are ready to play the music at the first tempo.
    Once you have the music in your hands you can begin your reps and build muscle memory. The goal is to play from top to bottom without error. Once you have completed the individual practice reps, we take you IN THE LOT to play your part with the rest of the drumline. Use this as a tool to #GetBetter and be honest with yourself and your progress. Enjoy.

    Here's an idea, put a 360 cam somewhere in a snareline and have the full line play this exercise and all the reps. Now THAT will be a real drumline simulator. Now all u need are some VR

    This is seriously thee best way for drummers to learn ever. Thank you for creating this and maybe you can team up with some software developers and they can make this an easy program that instructors could use. But kudos on it being so professional and cool.

      Marlon! Thanks so much dude! That is the goal! We want to develop this into an app that can be used as a custom tool to #GteBetter! Here we GROW!! :)

      TheGridBookSeries That is a very great idea and it forces you to learn from a slow tempo.

      @@gridbooknation Please do this so I can add the sounds to Sibelius.
      You'd think Sibelius and Finale could come up with decent marching percussion sounds but alas, THEY DO NOT! So we are forced to buy Virtual Drumline for an extra $200. Well, not forced but there are no real options for realistic marching percussion sounds. Develop this please!

      @@DennisJohnsonDrummer I do have to mention that musescore with the MDL extension sounds pretty decent, but it would require you to learn musescore, so 🤷

    I can tell you guys take great pride in the stuff you guys put out. This is the most amazing thing that's come to the drumming community. I wish I had stuff like this when I was in high school. I hope the guys that are freshman in high school take FULL advantage of everything the grid book has to offer. This is not a game. This is real life. #LFG

    I freaking love this and only wish i had it before my dci audition a little bit ago. correct me if im wrong but the count off comes in a beat early which causes you to come in on the opposite foot. Thanks for everything your doing with the drumming comunity.

      You would stop marking time at the end, then mark time again in the tap off. That would simulate a hold in the music at the end of the phrase!

    haha this is cool! Do you think you could do this with excerpts of show music from actual shows from previous DCI or WGI years? There's some real tasty stuff being written every year that I think a lot of players would love to be able to get into their hands, especially young ones that have a particular Corps in mind, or just want to play what some top tier corps would play.
    I know you guys are just starting this kind of thing, I'm just offering up some ideas on what you could do with it :)

    • @gridbooknation
      @gridbooknation  7 років тому +1

      Bloo Eagle That is a really cool idea! The only issue is copyright. Can't copy other people's music and redistribute it. But we will be evolving this platform soon! Thanks for the feedback!

    what do those arrow-looking markings mean on the 3rd partials of the count 2 and 3 triplets in the second to last measure? they look like shots but sound like accents.

    • @Jonryan_Natividad
      @Jonryan_Natividad 7 років тому +1

      Brenna Tosh It's like a jazz accent, but it just means to hit the note really hard

    • @gridbooknation
      @gridbooknation  7 років тому +2

      Those are "Rooftop Accents" and are meant to be played as an accent with more emphasis. Just as Jonryan stated, this would be played with more volume.

    • @HyukBurgersTV
