The intensity of this book is unreal. Nobody's playing this at a powerhouse level while still maintaining a nice full well rounded sound like the cadets.
6th place line. Now compare this to the 2013 6th place line. That's how much deeper DCI lines have gotten since then.

My High School teacher Mr. Gall teaches these guys... They were at the Stadium my district uses called "Memorial Stadium" Very impressive performance, and if they keep these notes up I might wanna join :)

dkeller20m - By deal breaker I was referring to the placement falling between them and Crown. Maybe CrownPit outdid the Cadets. Maybe politics, maybe CrownDrums had cleaner runs. Maybe the judges got tired of Colin's writing that year.

The amount of notes these dudes are throwing down and getting 6th in drums shows how rigged the system is
Think about the other factors such as musical assimilation with the brass and as an ensemble how it blends as well. You can easily have complete separation between brass and percussion books at vital times where they need to be somewhat similar. Colin's writing is more aggressive and technically difficult than other corps, but each corps tries to have the wonderful balance of parts that flow with the horn-line; plus separate parts that add color to the whole ensemble, and finally the achievement/cleanliness of all the parts at the finals. For example: Crown played their beats hella clean and the parts were "written" for the horn-line in a sense, but the book difficulty was lower than that of bd, bc, cadets, and scv. There are gives and takes for each corps focus and main goal

they obviously meant percussion, you don't have to be a smartass about it.
And then you hear Scv and it's like "oh... That's why"
It goes the other way too. Crown 2013's book supported the brass really well, but was noticeably easier and dirtier than other lines, both those they placed behind and ahead of. And keep in mind it's a PERCUSSION score. The front ensemble is considered in the percussion score too, and that's probably why Crown's percussion placed as high as they did that year.
