- After rocking audiences for over 30 years, Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D. sits down with Johnny to promote the new album, Veritas. With Sonny being from San Diego, things start off with some friendly football trash talk between Sonny’s Chargers and Johnny’s Raiders, and learn what it’s been like as a San Diego sports fan. Sonny shares a behind the curtain peek of what it’s like to have songs that have become stadium staples and what that looks from a modern business standpoint in publishing. The sports and music talk leads into what it’s like working with WWE on the music side, and how going to school with Rey Mysterio has lead to a long time friendship between him and P.O.D. What’s it like to have a movie made around your song? We hear the perks and the bum outs of P.O.D.’s hit song Boom being the center piece for the Kevin James movie, “Here Comes the Boom.”
Sonny shares his feelings on the new album’s sound and how it was recorded in a different way for the band. How did cruising with HR of Bad Brains lead to Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God featuring on Veritas? What ties to Tatiana Shmayluk of Jinjer led to her feature on the album? We learn that along with Sonny’s take on the resurgence in Nu Metal. After Johnny dives into the sound of the new album, they discover he and Sonny have worked with mutual friends and discuss working with some of the best in the music business. The conversation concludes with Sonny teasing Johnny with the possibility to roll to an WWE event together to go see Sonny’s friend, Rey Mysterio, wrestle!
